    Ahi Poke Bowl

Great experience overall! This was my first time visiting Shepherd & Sims, and I was really impressed. The host was incredibly gracious and friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. I visited on a Sunday afternoon with my friend. I asked for an iced coffee, even though it wasn't on the menu, and they happily made one for me. I also ordered the Ahi Poke Bowl with the dressing on the side, and they got everything exactly as requested. The food was fresh, the service was attentive, and the overall experience was excellent. I'll definitely be back!

IMHO Beautiful restaurant, epic customer service from Patty and bartender extraordinaire, Sal, and yummy food. Our party of 7 enjoyed delicious cocktails crafted by Sal for our specific tastes. Sal's suggestion for me was the Chi-Chi (vodka, trader Vic's macadamia nut, pineapple, coco lopez), $12!! The ladies all loved it; we had to order another round of Chi-Chis! We arrived early enough to enjoy Happy Hour appetizers. We ordered a dozen oysters, $2.50 each, New England Clam Chowder bowls, $7, Fried Chicken bites, $15, Coconut Shrimp, $14, Beer Battered Fish Sticks, $12, Patatas Bravas (Yukon gold potatoes, salsa brava, aioli), $12, and a Focaccia bread service, $7. I wish I had thought to order the empanadas! Next time! Entrees ordered included Shepherd & Sims salad, $18, special Wedge salad, $18, The Only Burger That Belongs On The Table, $21, Market Fish, $36, HH Fried Chicken Sandwich Slider, $6.50, HH Beer Battered Fish Sticks, $12, HH Fried Chicken bites, $15, Wagyu steak special, $46. The bun-to-chicken ratio on my HH chicken slider was wanting. There was more bun than chicken and the bun was overly toasted. I simply removed the bun and ate the sweet chicken bite. The menfolk expected their Wagyu steaks to be more tender but thought they were chewy. If it's Wagyu, it should melt in your mouth, IMHO. Patty was concerned that the meat entrees were lacking for one friend and offered to bring him something else. Her concern for his happiness showed and was greatly appreciated. Desserts were divine and beautiful to look at. I love me an Affogato, $12, and it did not disappoint! Delish! Friends ordered the Passionfruit Sorbet, $5, Bread Pudding, $14, Lemon Cheesecake, $14. The restaurant ambiance was bright and clean. I appreciated that I could actually see my menu without having to squint for lack of good lighting. Service was exceptional from everyone, especially Patty who kept us laughing and informed. Our plates were efficiently removed and water refilled often without being obtrusive. We all look forward to returning to Shepherd & Sims again soon! Perhaps during the summer, we could dine outside on their lovely patio!

Shepherd & Sims has been on my list to try for over a year now. I finally made reservations and had a fantastic dinner with my partner and friends. My overall score for the food is 4 stars, but the outstanding customer service deserved a full 5-star rating. I can't recall our waitress's name, but we all appreciated her friendly service and warm attitude. It truly enhanced our first visit. The other staff members were also very kind. We were even bid farewell as we left, with a staff member holding the door open. Impressive! APPS * Oysters: we ordered a variety for apps. Delicious! Enjoyed the sauces: sangrita, cucumber mignonette, smoked cocktail sauce. * Heirloom Tomatoes: melons, burrata, mint, orange zest, pomegranate syrup, lemon oil. It was refreshing and light. * Ceviche*: local catch (scallops), lime, onion, tomato, cucumber, pico de gallo, salsa macha, blue corn tostada. This appetizer was delish! Well balanced. The blue chips paired well. MAINS * Baby Back Ribs: Korean BBQ sauce, sesame, pickled cucumber salad, cilantro. I ordered this and absolutely enjoyed every bite. The meat was tender and slid off the ribs. However, they were slightly over. * The Only Burger That Belongs On The Table: American cheese, bacon jam, crispy onion string, awesome sauce, pickles, lettuce. My partner ordered this, and I had a bite. It was tasty. A good old burger. Can't go wrong with it. * Flannery Dry Aged Chopped Steak: garlic mashed potatoes, mustard, pickled ramp sauce. My friend ordered this and devoured it. I can safely say it was tasty. * Mafaldine: Jim's Bolognese family recipe of ground beef and pork, Grana Padano. My friend ordered this and ate half since we had quite a few apps. She enjoyed it and only had positive feedback. She boxed the other half for lunch the next day. Overall, a great restaurant in Los Gatos to savor a tasty meal.

    Potato rosti with smoked salmon

Visited here for Saturday brunch. We got the rigatoni, pork sandwich, potato rosti with smoked salmon, and grandmas suon kho. My favorite dish was the suon kho! The meat was so juicy, tender, and well seasoned. Paired perfectly with a tangy carrot slaw and topped with fried shallots. Would definitely get this again. The mussels in curry were yummy too. The crispy bread perfectly absorbed the curry broth.

Wife and I are here and we both loved this placed. We ordered empanadas, fried chicken, the burger, and beet burrata salad. All there were delicious. Fried chicken and empanada were both seasoned well and flavorful. Burger was amazing and would order everything again. The beet salad was one of the better ones I've had. I loved the lemon "coulis", which added the perfect acidity and pop of flavor. Perhaps a couple more slices of pear, but that's nitpicking - this was a perfect beet salad. We will definitely be back.

This is a long overdue review of Shepherd & Sims. They are located in the Cornerstone of Los Gatos Plaza and has ample parking available. The decor is nice, modern, and bright and cheery. Inside and outisde dining options to choose from. They have a nice full bar. We stopped in with friends for a bite to eat. *Cauliflower: cardamom tea infused, vadouvan curry lentils & chickpeas (no pic, 3/5). The flavors were good but not as tender as we had hoped. Also, the portion size was small, it was a quarter of a head of Cauliflower. *The Only Burger That Belongs On The Table: American cheese, bacon jam, crispy onion string, awesome sauce, pickles, lettuce, French fries (no pic, 3.5/5). Pretty good, seasoned well, decent burger. *Empanadas (no pic, 4/5) - various fillings like chicken, mushroom, cheese & jalapeño.

I came here for bottomless mimosas w my girls and was pleasantly surprised that it was premixed in a pitcher they kept regilli. I had the empanadas of the day which was birria and I enjoyed it so much. Shoutout to our server Vicente because he saw my birthday on my ID was in a few days and threw in a sweet dessert for me.

Second visit to Shepherd & Sims, this time for dinner. Service - since we had a reservation, the host seated us right away -- initially in the noisier bar area but I asked if we could sit on the other side which was much quieter, and he seated us over there. Waiter was also attentive and explained the specials, checked on us several times. Food - I was disappointed that they were out of their delish empanadas (which I had at HH last month) but the Coconut Shrimp were really good. For dinner my husband had one of the specials, a rabbit ragu on fettuccine. He really enjoyed it, I'm not such a fan of rabbit but I had a taste too. I had the Cauliflower gratin which was really good with cheese, good spices and sauce. My Cosmo was also as good as I remembered from HH. For dessert we had the pear tart with Caramel gelato which was a delicious finish to the meal. We'll be back. For quieter seating, ask to be seated on the other side of the restaurant from the bar.

We were a big fan of Forthright in Campbell and were bummed when it closed. But we were excited to learn that Sheherd & Sims was owned by the same owner. We've come here twice and enjoyed it both times. Servers are friendly and attentive and we enjoy the food. My wife likes raw oysters so she gets the Sip and Slurp, and I always enjoy the One Hitter Quitter (burger with beer and a shot). Fries were crispy and light, burger was delicious. My wife also had the clams. They have Happy Hour from 2-5:30 and there was quite a crowd inside and out. They have a pretty large covered patio that's totally shaded - nice to sit out there and enjoy the nice weather. We really enjoyed our dinner here both times, and are really happy to have a good neighborhood restaurant we can walk to.

    Bread Pudding!
    Cheryl S.

The bread pudding at Shepherd & Sims was absolutely delicious. Warm, rich, and creamy on the inside with the perfect crunchy top. They served it warm with a little vanilla ice cream that melted into it perfectly and made every bite even better. It was comforting, indulgent, and honestly one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. Definitely worth saving room for dessert!

    Chicken Liver Pâté

This is my third time coming here, and I always stop by on Sunday afternoons for happy hour. They have all kinds of great options on the happy hour menu, and it's honestly one of the best deals around. The place is always clean, inviting, and comfortable -- perfect for a casual weekend hangout. My recommended dishes: Chips and Dip: The chips are impressively thin and super crunchy -- exactly how I like them. Simple but so good. Oysters: I always order whatever oysters they have on special for happy hour. This time the oyster is sweet. My favorite dish: Chicken Liver Pâté: This is my must-order every time. It's creamy, smooth, and flavorful without being too strong. They nail it consistently. The only downside is that they charge an extra 3% if you pay by credit card, which isn't the nicest surprise.

    Duck Fat Hash Browns

First time and what a great experience! Bright and welcoming decor / space. Lots of people but still felt spacious. Had the Duck Hash Browns appetizer - crazy good! Entree was the Scallops over Risotto - also really delicious! Service was excellent - a truly lovely time!! P.S. - parking is good too

If you're hoping to sit inside, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The service was wonderful from start to finish. My friend and I both ordered the smash burger and I've got to say it was easily one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned so well. The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and absolutely delicious. And whatever you do, DO NOT skip the bread pudding. It was a 1000/10! Not overly sweet, perfectly balanced, and the texture was incredible. If you're on the fence about dessert, just order it, you won't regret it. The only minor downside was that the sodas were very flat and tasted a bit syrupy. Other than that, everything was fantastic. The prices were reasonable, the portions were generous, and the overall experience was excellent for such a cute spot in downtown Los Gatos. Will definitely be returning soon!

There is mostly only street parking, though nearby there are some parking lots and a underground parking garage just a short walk away. The ambience inside is nice with mood lighting, lots of dark wood, elegant decor, & house music. They have a covered patio area for outdoor dining, in addition to a couple of other tables. The inside has booth seating and standard table seating. A nice bar area with engaging and friendly bartenders. Two separate women's restrooms and one multi-user men's restroom. From the moment we walked in, the service was outstanding! The hostess was helpful and welcoming who promptly brought us to our table and recommended some of her favorites. Our server was Therese who took excellent care of us. She was welcoming, friendly, and attentive. Also, the manager came around to check up on us, to make sure we didn't have last calls right before the kitchen closed. That was considerate. We decided on ordering the... Grilled Pork Chop: bourbon marinated grilled peach compote, peach, red onion & tomato salad (4/5). The presentation was gorgeous. A Sous vide pork chop with grill marks cooked to a medium temperature. Savory and complemented with the tangy, spicy, and tart salad. A tad heavy handed on the salt for the sauce, otherwise, it was still delicious. Gnocchi Ragu: lamb bolognese, pecorino (4/5). The meat sauce was delicious. The gnocchi itself was sizeable and decent. Fries (4/5) - medium shoe string cut fries that were hot, crispy, and lightly seasoned. So fresh and right out of the deep fryer. Parkside Bread Pudding: vanilla gelato, pecan praline (4/5). This was delicious. Therese was told by the kitchen staff that they unfortunately ran out of the pecan praline when she brought it out. Though, it was still decadent and divine. Therese even brought us a complimentary beignets for a birthday celebration. We will be back! I was able to make a last minute reservation without having to commit to a deposit, which was a breath of fresh air these days. After our great experience I regret not trying the restaurant sooner, but hey, better late than never. I made reservations for 5pm on a Friday. There was ample parking at the private lot since it was still early. ASA had a pretty interior with a relaxed upscale atmosphere. Overall customer experience was exemplary. Employees were very friendly and courteous, and the wait staff was especially attentive. Also appreciated that our food came out in a timely manner. We shared the king trumpet mushroom appetizer, arrabiata pasta, and the Argentine steak, which was the perfect amount of food. Everything was incredibly flavorful and delicious. The appetizer surprised me the most with its uniqueness. The mushroom stems were cut paper thin and had the slightest essence of smokiness. Loved the chickpea puree. The Argentine steak was perfectly medium rare, and the meat itself was so tender. The fries were excellent. The fries were made the way I love them - light, airy, and crispy. Addictive and hard to resist. Lastly, the arrabiata pasta was solid. I did think the pasta was cooked 30 seconds too long, but the sauce really made up for the dish. The arbol chili and fresh garlic packed on some heat. We look forward to coming back for the steak and to try the mushroom rigatoni that everyone raves about!

We ordered the beet salad, mushroom rigatoni, Paella Valencia appetizer, and hand-cut New York steak. The Paella Valencia was the clear standout. It was the most cohesive and well-executed dish we had, with good flavor and texture throughout. This would be the one thing I'd order again. The beet salad was where we ran into the biggest issue. We specifically told our server about a peanut and tree nut allergy, and he acknowledged it, but the salad still came out with pistachios on top. They remade it, but the replacement portion looked noticeably smaller and less composed than the original. The first one had a nice amount of height and presentation, while the second felt a bit sparse. Given that the remake was due to an allergy mistake, that was disappointing. The mushroom rigatoni didn't really land for me. The pasta wasn't al dente, and the dish tasted more like garlic pasta with a large amount of mushrooms placed on top rather than a mushroom forward pasta where the flavor was actually built into the sauce. Not bad, just not particularly cohesive or memorable. The New York steak was seasoned well, but the cook was inconsistent. We ordered medium rare, and some parts were closer to that than others. It was a thick cut, so I understand there's some difficulty in getting it perfectly even, but at this price point I still expected a more consistent temperature throughout. Our server was pleasant, but check-ins were sparse, and we waited quite a while at the end just to get the check and pay. Again, this was on a Sunday evening with plenty of open tables, so there wasn't an obvious dinner rush to blame. Overall, ASA has a nice atmosphere and the paella was genuinely good, but the food execution and service were inconsistent enough that the dinner didn't quite meet expectations

It took about 20-30 minutes for her to come back and take our food order after we placed our initial drink orders with her. Throughout the dinner, her demeanor felt very passive aggressive, and there were several moments where we felt like we were being given attitude despite everyone in our group being polite. My friend asked for extra olives with his martini and she responded with a rude "Really?" while making a face. It was such an unnecessary reaction to a totally simple and normal request. She also recommended that we order family style, which we followed, but the pacing between courses was extremely slow. We waited around 30+ minutes between our pasta and our protein entrees. For a restaurant that specifically recommends family style dining, the courses should be paced more appropriately so the table isn't sitting around waiting for the next round of food. The birthday cake situation was also frustrating. We had given our cake to the hostess when we arrived, but I guess our server was never notified of that. When I asked about a candle, she said she would bring it out with the birthday dessert, but brought out the restaurant's dessert instead. When she realized we had our own cake, she immediately took the bill back and said she needed to add the cake fee. The issue with that was we weren't asking them to cut or plate the cake. We just wanted to sing Happy Birthday, then have it boxed back up. She had assumed we wanted the cake service without actually asking us, and when we clarified, her response was, "Well, that's why I asked earlier," even though she hadn't actually asked us. None of us gave her a hard time or were anything but polite throughout the evening, which made the repeated attitude especially disappointing. The food wasn't terrible and the drinks were great, the restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere, but spending around $900, which included a 20% automatic gratuity, you'd expect the service to match the price point, even though service should always be good regardless. Unfortunately, the poor service really overshadowed what was supposed to be a nice birthday dinner for my friend and left all of us with a bad taste in our mouths.

Dishes arrived very late; we were nearly forgotten when we tried to order, and then after ordering, we waited 40 minutes between appetizers and the main course. We tried the steak tacos, smoked chicken lollipops, skirt steak, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes, and there honestly wasn't a single thing we wouldn't order again. The meats were cooked perfectly, the sides were fantastic, and everything had so much flavor. We were already talking about what we'd reorder on our next visit! One thing to know before you go is that they don't take reservations, so if you're walking in during a busy time, there's a good chance you'll have a bit of a wait. Thankfully, you can grab drinks from the bar and sit outside while you wait, which made it really enjoyable and didn't feel like an inconvenience at all. Great food, great atmosphere, and absolutely worth the wait. We will definitely be back!

Onto the food...rib eye steak, at $58, was cooked perfectly. Not overdone and tasty with garlic butter on top. Also a decent cut of meat that wasn't tough. Price is acceptable for a 16 oz size steak of this quality. Lobster rolls as an appetizer, were just the right portion if you're not too hungry and don't want to eat a full meal. Good lobster to dough ratio and the sauce it came with was adequate. Friendly service and the restaurant was staffed appropriately for the number of patrons it had. Clean and welcoming interior. Parking lot is available.

She was delightful and engaging while I was waiting for my friends and told her about some special needs for one individual which she did a perfect job assisting. We had a variety of specialty drinks - all tasty. We had the fried tempura battered string beans appetizer which comes with a zesty sauce. Entrees included lamp chips, truffle fries, and a couple of orders of the pappardelle pasta and braised short ribs. Too full for dessert but another special martini and coffee. Beautiful ambiance too!

From the moment we checked in, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and making a reservation about a month in advance definitely paid off since the restaurant was packed. For starters, we ordered the fried chicken & cornbread and the summer peach salad. The chicken and cornbread were easily a 10/10 super crispy, well seasoned, and the cornbread was rich and buttery. The peach salad with friend goat cheese (YUM!) was really fresh and bright, a nice lighter dish to balance out everything else. I also had a glass of rose. For mains, we had the Prime Ribeye and the 7oz Harris Ranch Prime Filet, both cooked exactly how we asked and full of flavor. We shared a bottle of Duckhorn cab, and I appreciated that their wine list felt reasonably priced for the quality. We corked what we didn't finished and took it home. The only slight downside was our table being in a bit of a funky spot along a walkway, but service was attentive enough that it never really became a problem. Overall, I'd absolutely come back, and next time I'm saving room for dessert.

The decor is nice and modern and clean, and the food was simply amazing! We started off with the rare tuna tacos that were delicious as well as the salmon sashimi hors d'oeuvres that a friend and I shared. I ordered the miso cod which was rich, but not too rich over a bed of forbidden rice and spinach. I shared with my friend, the salmon that was equally as delicious. I could not choose which one I liked more. I do have to say kudos to Amanda our server was probably the most attentive and best server I've had in a very long time. I will definitely come back, Please note that this was on a Wednesday at 6 PM and there were probably 10 other people in the restaurant. It is not very large and pretty quiet. Parking was on the street or there are some public spots tucked away off the main street. I did not see any electric charging stations nearby, but there are some shaded spots from the trees in some of the parking areas. I look forward to coming again to this restaurant for any special occasion. Great for groups or romantic evening.

We started with the beef carpaccio and it was tender and delicious. We also had the shrimp cigars and two old fashioned. For main course I had the miso cod and it was tender and very flavorful- the miso saturated the entire fish. Going forward I would have ordered a vegetable to pair with it. My husband ordered the duck and that was a bit disappointing. They hadn't rendered the fat properly so the skin was chewy rather than crisp. The duck was slightly on the tough side. On a very positive note, the wines are market price rather than the large markup you see in most restaurants. The chocolate cake was overly dense. Since it was a birthday celebration they also brought out little chocolate cream filled cups that were delicious. We will definitely return.
