The host greeted us warmly, and that friendly, upbeat energy carried through the entire team. The space itself is gorgeous, featuring spacious indoor and patio seating, as well as an incredible full-bar display complete with a rolling library ladder. Our server, Kai, provided top-tier service. He gave us a wonderful breakdown of the menu, highlighting how the executive chef crafts everything in-house--from the blue corn tortillas and slider buns to the potato chips and onion dip. My husband had the ahi tuna tostada and a selection of daily oysters, both of which he absolutely devoured. I ordered the "Only Burger" slider, and after a little push from my husband and Kai (who accurately described the "awesome sauce" as an upgraded In-N-Out spread), I kept the sauce on--and I'm so glad I did! The slider was flawless in both size and flavor. Paired with those ultra-crispy, perfectly salted homemade chips and dip, we left completely satisfied. This is one of our favorite spots for happy hour. We came here again last Friday around 4:50pm and they were quite busy. We usually sat in their lovely covered outdoor patio, but this time we decided to sit at one of the high tables in the bar area inside. Their modern and upscale interior looked very welcoming. Service was friendly. Instead of my usual Sip n' Slurp Combo, I decided to try their Taco 'Bout a Lady Combo. It came with a glass of sauvignon blanc and a beer battered fish taco with cabbage slaw, avocado tomatillo salsa, creama and cilantro on top. The fish was piping hot and its size was decent. Every bite was delish. My husband enjoyed his go-to Combo: One-Hitter Quitter, which included a smash burger, a shot of whiskey and a beer. He added fried as well. I had some of his fries, and they're hot, crispy on the outside and well-seasoned. We also shared an order of Mushroom Cigars, which had 3 "cigars" with different types of mushrooms wrapped in phyllo dough and a side of sundried tomato tappenade. The fat had so much flavor and would come back just for this lol Meats were all cooked to PERFECTION amazing textures and tenderness not overcooked at all (ribs, pork chop, and octopus all great). Flavors were interesting seemed to draw from Asian cuisines, for example the pork ribs over rice had a viet style glaze. Went in for happy hour and then got treated for Thursday music night. Food is very good and flavorful. Started with oysters which were very fresh and diverse. Then the mussels with the thai sauce. Very nice. Went to the beef burger and the chicken slider which were both really nice. I preferred the chicken. Then Thursday music started. It was excellent and find while there. Service was great. Was taken here for a birthday dinner and enjoyed everything immensely. I had ordered a cocktail that looked interesting. I didn't really like it and the waiter cheerfully replaced it with something else. I ordered fish and chips and my companion ordered seafood pasta. The appetizer was rice ball croquets. Delicious!! Three of us were in the mood for Oysters on the Half Shell and they were so tasty. My wife mentioned that her Hummus was terrific and the Coconut Prawns that we had also were enjoyed. The host was incredibly gracious and friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. I visited on a Sunday afternoon with my friend. Came in at 7pm with a party of 7 for a birthday. The waiter was clearly a bit busy. He got to the table around 7:15 and said he needs a couple minutes. He finally took drink orders at around 7:25. Was here for a birthday celebration and this place is pretty nice inside and clean. You can totally dress up or be a bit more casual without an issue. They have a bar with a huge TV and happy hour everyday so if you're close by, would be a great place to grab a drink and a bite. I ended up getting a wedge and the scallop risotto and both were excellent. I always like a wedge salad and the scallops had a great sear and the risotto had a ton of mushrooms and well cooked. Service - since we had a reservation, the host seated us right away -- initially in the noisier bar area but I asked if we could sit on the other side which was much quieter, and he seated us over there. Waiter was also attentive and explained the specials, checked on us several times. Food - I was disappointed that they were out of their delish empanadas (which I had at HH last month) but the Coconut Shrimp were really good. For dinner my husband had one of the specials, a rabbit ragu on fettuccine. He really enjoyed it, I'm not such a fan of rabbit but I had a taste too. I had the Cauliflower gratin which was really good with cheese, good spices and sauce. My Cosmo was also as good as I remembered from HH. I have been a loyal customer of Shepherd & Sims since they opened, and I'm writing this review in the sincere hope that the owner will read it and take these concerns seriously. Shepherd & Sims has a great menu and has the potential to be one of the better restaurants in Los Gatos. Unfortunately, after dining here for years, I believe the biggest problem is consistency--both in the kitchen and in the service. The staff seems to change constantly, service is unpredictable, and the quality and preparation of the food can vary dramatically from one visit to another. Today, Labor Day, was a particularly disappointing example. My husband and I had a 12:30 PM lunch reservation. I ordered a well-done hamburger in a lettuce wrap, and we ordered a salad to share with blue cheese dressing. My husband ordered the strip steak with fries. His steak arrived, but neither my hamburger nor our salad did. Eventually, I learned that my hamburger had apparently been forgotten and had to be reordered. By the time it finally arrived, my husband was already halfway through his meal--and when I cut into my hamburger, the meat was raw even though I had specifically ordered it well done. I sent it back and then waited approximately another 40 minutes for the replacement. During all of this, our salad still had not arrived. When my second hamburger finally came, I once again had to ask someone to please bring us the salad. This simply should not happen at a restaurant at this price point. What makes it particularly frustrating is that Shepherd & Sims should be operating at the same caliber as Wine Cellar in Los Gatos. Their prices are comparable, yet the difference in execution is significant. At Wine Cellar, we consistently receive excellent service and well-prepared food. The restaurant seems organized, the staff attentive, and the meals reliably prepared. I believe the responsibility for creating that kind of consistency ultimately starts with ownership and management. Managers need to be managed, servers need to be properly trained and retained, and the kitchen staff needs clear standards so that the same dish is prepared correctly every time. Something else really stood out to me today. Shepherd & Sims should have been packed for Labor Day lunch, yet the restaurant was surprisingly empty. Meanwhile, even Happy Hound across the street was full, with customers lined up outside. That contrast should be a serious signal to ownership. I am not writing this because I want Shepherd & Sims to fail--quite the opposite. I have been coming here since the restaurant opened because I want to like it and I want it to succeed. The menu is good, the location is wonderful, and the restaurant has tremendous potential. But potential isn't enough. Shepherd & Sims needs consistent food, consistent service, better staff training and stronger management. I sincerely hope the owner pays attention to what longtime customers are experiencing, because this restaurant could--and should--be so much better. read more

I visited this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon before happy hour so it was not busy at all. There are both indoor and outdoor seatings. I absolutely love the interior of the restaurant, very spacious and classy looking. We were a group of four and ordered 6 dishes and that were enough portions for all of us. My favorite dishes: Vietnamese pork rib tips: the meat was tender and just with enough sweet and savory. The rice and veggies were a nice touch to help balance out the flavorful meat. Selection of daily oysters: I am not a big fan of oysters but these were surprisingly great. The size was just right and there were three different sauces. Ive had a server take on my table of 4 while tying to juggle a party of 15+, got totally ignored, and given attitude on top of everything. I've made reservations for 10 year anniversaries, birthdays, etc., and got treated pretty mediocre. Kind of just ignored which I could go anywhere else to be treated better. Boring bun, boring bland almost dry meat that tastes like it was previously a frozen puck, cooks that dont understand meat doneness levels, my medium was brown throughout. At $21 it should come with a small side of fries. We were a big fan of Forthright in Campbell and were bummed when it closed. But we were excited to learn that Sheherd & Sims was owned by the same owner. We've come here twice and enjoyed it both times. Servers are friendly and attentive and we enjoy the food. My wife likes raw oysters so she gets the Sip and Slurp, and I always enjoy the One Hitter Quitter (burger with beer and a shot). Fries were crispy and light, burger was delicious. My wife also had the clams. They have Happy Hour from 2-5:30 and there was quite a crowd inside and out. They have a pretty large covered patio that's totally shaded - nice to sit out there and enjoy the nice weather. The mussels were decent, but it was a small amount and it should clearly list that it is green curry. I wouldn't have ordered if I had known! Came here on Christmas Eve with family and the warm atmosphere, good food and friendly staff really made the day. :) Food: Tuna tostada 4/5 Decent amount of tuna and the sauce has a nice kick to it! The peanuts and guacamole also complimented Curry mussels 4/5 Delicious, sweet and the mussels are very throughly washed so you don't worry about any grit. Chicken pate 4/5 Overall a sweet and savory dish that leans more into the sweetness. The toast is perfectly toasted and the hazelnuts adds a nice crunch! It feels like a Christmas appetizer. Salad 5/5 The MEAT IS ACTUALLY COOKED MED RARE. That was a great and pleasant surprise. The onions were soaked in water before so there isn't too strong of an onion taste ( good) but you get to enjoy all the crunchiness. The barley also adds fun texture. Great atmosphere, located at a place where you can have a nice walk after dinner. Seems like they had both indoor and outdoor seating. Food was great, but nothing stood out. The octopus was cooked to perfection, it was nice and tender. The poke bowl was so-so. Ordered a bunch of food but the octopus was the only thing that stood out.
