I had high hopes for this upscale Mediterranean spot in downtown Campbell. Lots of hype, but the food was average and service was all over the place. I thought some dishes were great; the wagyu burger was decadent. Other dishes were not that special. The scallops didn't taste too fresh (likely frozen) and combining them with hummus didn't quite work. The side of bread was practically insulting. $5 for stale table bread was a surprise. Dishes arrived very late; we were nearly forgotten when we tried to order, and then after ordering, we waited 40 minutes between appetizers and the main course. Not because they were cooking it; they just forgot we were there and when they brought out the dishes, the scallops were no longer just-cooked, and the burger had been sitting for a bit. No apology, just an acknowledgment it was late, and no discount (not even on the stale bread). They offered us wine, we said we didn't drink, and they just moved on. I debated a lot about how to review this. It's my personal experience that was disappointing, and I'm glad some reviews are very upbeat. But there's a handful of reviews noting frustrating delays... and that needs to be worked on. read more

I've been to this restaurant a couple of times and never wrote a review. oops! Hee! The remodel they did on this particular location is wonderful! It has beautiful, clean modern look with this amazing bar that actually lights up at night or when they decide to dim the lights! Very romantic! My friend and I came here too get some wine and snacks! Sorry, I forgot a picture of the snacks. We were hungry! We got the sliders and the wine was so crisp and perfect! I tried their Chardonnay, usually I'm not a fan, but this particular one tasted more like a Sauvignon Blanc. Maybe it's just where the region was from? They have a long table in the middle that a birthday group was partaking on, and there was a handful of servers and weight stuff in the back. Everybody seemed to be in their flow of things. Went to Lira for happy hour for the 2nd time yesterday. Beautiful turquoise leather chairs inside. They looked even prettier in the summer when there's sunlight outside. Instead of a printed menu, we had to scan a QR code to view their tap list this time. I liked their cider (#11), which had a hint of mango. I took a sip of my husband's Brett beer (#9). I didn't usually like beer, but this one was different, it was more like a wine than beer. Very interesting profile. We ordered 4 food items off the happy hour menu to share. The Brussel sprouts with bacon was well seasoned, not bitter at all. It would be even better if the edges were crispy. The empanada had a pretty presentation, the outside was crispy and the fillings had a kick to it. Nicely done. The crab toast was kind of small, but delicious. Very well balanced with the spicy empanada. The burger was just ok this time; maybe because it was cold already when I ate it. My husband had it while it was still warm, and he said it was just as good as last time. The main reason we came back was to try their "Death by Chocolate" dessert. We were too full to try it last time. However, we didn't see it on the menu anymore. Our server was new and didn't know anything about it. So, we just ordered the only chocolate item on the Sweets menu. What a let down!! The small chocolate cake was dry, the mousse wasn't aerated at all, the crystallized chocolate soil and berries gel were non-existent, just some small strawberry pieces. Our daughter could make a better chocolate cake at home. For $22, we were expecting something more refined. While the happy hour part was a solid 4 star, I would give the dessert 2 stars at the most. We decided to check this place out after the host invited us in! My friends and I had other reservations booked but wanted to try a couple of dishes here. The interior was beautifully decorated, and it's perfect for a date night. Service was professional and food came out fast. Salmon Crudo - This was delightful and probably my favorite dish of the night. Citrus, light yet sweet. It includes ginger habanero syrup, citrus segments, radish, red beet gel, yuzu bubbles. Presentation was 10/10 Asparagus with leek pesto - Well made. Pesto went well with it. Lobster mushroom pasta - creamy, umami from the mushroom, lobster flavor was incorporated well with the sauce. We came here for happy hour today and had a nice lunch from the happy hour items. We liked the large window of time allotted for happy hour and the menu while somewhat limited, it was more than enough to make a nice meal for two. We had the Brussels, ricotta cheese with toast, steak bites, and the wagyu burger. We had especially liked the sprouts and burger, both very flavorful and rich. Good portions to share. The ricotta cheese went quite well with the spicy/hot honey they brought with it. The pieces of bread were a little bit too charred, but otherwise it was nice with a generous amount of ricotta cheese. The steak bites were a nice piece of meat cut three ways with some chimichurri sauce. The meat itself was lean, but because it was so lean, a little less tender than ideal. Probably the cut of meat and thickness, as it was cooked well. Service was efficient and the place was classily decorated. A really nice selection of beer for $5/glass. Wow! Everything was so good here and the service was amazing too. The owner took the time to explain to us the inspiration behind the dishes and that really made the restaurant super inviting. We started with the crab crostini and the Brussels sprouts. The crab was very fresh and each crostini had a large portion of crab on top. The Brussels sprouts were very crispy and very umami with the cheese and bacon combination mixed in. The empanada was honestly a showstopper. I don't know how to describe it other than you have to try it. Both pastas were good but I prefer the mushroom one over the short rib ragu. The halibut was also good, and the basil sauce made it even better. I was already super impressed with everything but I think the stars were the 2 desserts. The Dubai cheesecake was an Italian style cheesecake, so it was a lot lighter than I was expecting (which was welcomed) and captured the essence of Dubai chocolate without being too overwhelming. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Halfway through dinner, I was so disappointed that I made a reservation at another restaurant on the same street so we could leave and actually enjoy a meal. There were no carbs available. Everything we asked for was either sold out or required extra effort to get--like begging the server to ask the chef for two small, dry pieces of toast, which cost $5 per plate. After repeatedly asking, the server finally said she'd check with the chef about bringing us more toasts. Seriously? We had reserved a table indoors, but were seated outside. Some of us had dressed for indoor seating and were freezing, even with a heater nearby. Gnocchi? Sold out. Cocktails? Sold out. A second order of the mushroom dish? Also sold out. Bread? "We need to check with the chef." (Also not complimentary.) Fish dish has a yellow sauce which is sour and does not tasted good. The salad was terrible--raw napa cabbage soaked in red oil. Completely unappetizing. We couldn't even enjoy more wine because there was no substantial food left to order. After paying over $90+ per person, we had to walk to another restaurant just to eat again. This place is not a Michelin-starred restaurant where you expect small portions or an a la carte concept. The quality was uneven, the service poor, and the overall value extremely low. Never again. Oh my, recent reviews have been less than stellar compared to the ones when Lira first opened...and it's only been a couple of months! I only found out the previous chef parted ways with this restaurant courtesy of another Yelp review. There's also a whole reddit post about it too. I was so excited to check out Lira, but I guess I came a couple weeks too late. We decided to come for Father's Day. The restaurant was much smaller than I thought, but it was still decorated nicely. There's a decent amount of outdoor seating though! Service was painfully slow and it didn't help that our server, bless his soul, was a bit aloof. He took the orders for our starters and then never came back to ask what we wanted for our mains until we flagged him down. Between the apps and large plates, there must have been about a 30 minute wait. Additionally, when our entrees finally started arriving, they came out one at a time and one person in our party was awkwardly left without food for quite a while. We ordered a couple small plates to share, but be warned, they truly are small and good for a couple bites at most for a group of 6. The stuffed morels ($35) and mussels ($35) are insanely pricey for the portion size! The stuffed morels are interesting and it's more of a fried tempura-esque dish compared to a traditional salad. The mussels came in a nice, flavorful broth but only accompanied with 4 pieces of burnt bread. I think more bread was needed to soak up the liquids. I ordered the gnocchetti ($35) and while the gnocchi itself was soft and pillowy, I got a little bored of the dish a few bites in. I nibbled on my fiancé's halibut dish ($60), and found that the roasted tomatoes were a bit cold compared to the rest of the dish. The sauce the fish came in was light and citrusy, but the fish itself was a tad overcooked imo. I had been interested in dessert, but given the crazy amount of time it took to get our plates and how slow service was, I decided to forego it. I wish I could have come here before the head chef parted ways. I am not sure if the service would have been better, it was incredible slow. Most "fine dining" brings all entrees out at the same time. Since we like to wait for all people to have food before eating it took about 5-10 mins for everybody to get food. It's a new place and we wanted to try it for our girls night out con birthday celebrations. Food is disappointing in portion and not consistent in quality, service is great and the decoration is nice. We booked table for 9 with standard seating at 8pm on a Friday night. When 5 of us arrived on time, they didn't have a table ready for us. To compensate, we were offered their signature drink Bells, Berries & Harmoney while we waited at the bar table. When the table was ready, they seated us outside. One of the owner came by to offer indoor seating if we waited 45 minutes. The long table we got was Instagram-able with green walls and had heat lamps on the top, so we were ok unless it was windy. But 45 minutes passed by and nobody came and asked if we wanted to move... On the other hand, our waitress Taizia was great! She took care of us, checked on us, helped us take pictures, even asked the kitchen to make more bread for us. So now, onto the most disappointing part, the food. When all guests arrived, we were told that the cocktail that some of us were drinking was sold out. Huh? How can you even have cocktails sold out? Anyhow, so we ordered a few appetizers and pretty much all the entrees to share. The sizes were pathetically small given the price they charged. And Gnocchetti was sold out. How can you have pasta sold out?! You can't substitute with some other pasta? We asked if there's table bread, nope. We asked if we can get bread, nope, also sold out! We were so disappointed that Taizia went to check with the kitchen and came back with the news that the kitchen was able to make some more for us. It's literally grilled sourdough bread and a couple pieces we got were burned. And that, a plate with 2 pieces of bread costed $5! For appetizers and salad, we ordered Stuffed Morels ($35), it was good but too little portions for 9 to share. Burrata Peach Salad ($25) was a disaster. It was the first dish to come and the raw napa was super salty and the burrata cheeseball was like adding more salt to the salty veggie. The peach slices did not manage to balance it out. The Bone Marrow Beef Tartare ($45) was another disappointment. There was no bone marrow, it was only beef tartare and it was mixed with so much pickled ramps but not enough moist quail yolk that the whole thing just tasted salty. It came with grilled Manresa sourdough bread but with only 2 slices, we couldn't divide among 9 of us. This is where a good host would offer more bread, but nope, nothing happened. Onto the entrees. The Halibut ($60) was soft but the sauce did not please everyone. Some found it too sour and the roasted cherry tomato did not elevate the sauce. The Scallop and Octopus ($60) was ok, but the ration I got was 1/4 of a scallop and half an octopus leg only. Spiced Lamb ($60) was good, I love how it was cooked to perfection with a pink middle and I got 1 slice cut. The Pork Chop ($50) got everyone's vote as it was soft and flavorful and it was enough that each of us got 1 full piece (as it was already pre-cut). I was surprised to find out we ordered Duck Breast ($45) afterwards as I did not even get to try it. Corkage fee was $25, which was reasonable and there's no cut or plate fee for BYO birthday cake. Since it's a birthday celebration, the early arriving birthday girl got a signed card from the chef. The other birthday girl got nothing as the chef had already left and there were no more cards. Even cards could run out is beyond my imagination! How hard is it to sign a stack of them and just leave it to the host? I think the restaurant has the potential to make it better as there are some good dishes and the service was nice; but they have to figure out the supply situation. We were thinking of ordering more, but the disappointment of running out overwhelmed us like a tide washing over again and again, so with an hour in, we were already planning to go to another restaurant to get stuffed up. I want to start by saying I think this place has potential and I really wanted to like it. The place is really cute and they have indoor and outdoor seating. The disappointing thing here is they seem like they overcommitted with guests and so the wait times were long. I appreciate the people coming around to apologize, but the reason this gets a lower rating is because I understand the rush--coming from a restaurant industry previously--however the rush died by the time our food came out and our food was barely hot. And by the time we got it after the wait, we were hungry and just ready to move on. The food itself had really nice flavors, I just wish it was hot. The first whiskey sour was also really good. I mistakenly thought the menu would be the same as dinner menu during the day time on Sunday so I was a bit disappointed to find the brunch menu completely different from the dinner menu which was not updated on their website. We ordered the uber mochi waffles & fried chicken and the Italian steak sando. Uber mochi waffles & fried chicken $25 (2.5 stars) - the fried chicken portion was tiny compared to overall dish and the chicken batter could have been more crispy in my opinion. The sweet sauce on the chicken was a bit more on the sweeter side which made the ube waffle taste overpoweringly sweet. The ube mochi waffle was ordinary. I wouldn't order this again. Italian steak sando $28 (4.5 stars) - the steak was cooked to perfection, medium rare and tender. Ciabatta was light and airy. The staff were friendly and attentive. OK, so to start with, I *did* take a photo or two but it's a *pain* to get them from my cell phone to my computer [but also a pain to type a detailed review on my phone] so please look at other photos, of which I believe there are plenty. The first thing that strikes you, even before you enter, is the lovely decor visible from the street, which only gets better when you come in. Beautiful hanging lighting, lovingly set tables/dishes/napkins/dinnerware, etc. ... carefully crafted to create an inviting ambiance. And to me, that's important! I came here more for a "drink and snack" than for a meal, so I can't speak to the so-called "dining experience" in that way. I did try the waygu burger whose combination of flavors was so amazing that I didn't need ketchup (which for a Brooklyn-raised burger-lover says a Lot!). We absolutely loved their pork chop, Caesar, fried Brussels sprouts & lardon, and the mushroom pasta, each dish was packed with flavor and beautifully prepared. The service was truly outstanding. I loved their thoughtful birthday touch: they wrote my name on the menu and surprised us with complimentary champagne, which made the night feel extra special. Our drinks the Churro Avenue and the Café Boulevadier werperfectly crafted and so delicious. Lira is one of my best personal finds over the last few months - what a great dinner! For starters, the service was exceptional without being too hover-y. We were seated at the bar so we did feel like there were more servers standing around because of proximity to the kitchen, but they always remained professional and it never felt like we were being observed. Our water was always refilled & the napkins were even folded while we were in the restroom! Onto the food and drinks, there honestly were no misses that night. I gave the caprese martini a try and am so glad I did, because it was fun and intricate without being too overbearing (perfect for someone that likes savory/adventurous cocktails!)! Although everything was amazing, the stars of the show for us were the seared scallops and Dubai cheesecake. The brown butter hummus was good enough to eat on its own, and the cheesecake had the perfect rich consistency. I could honestly eat those every week, soo good. We were at the Campbell Farmers' Market on Sunday and decided to have lunch. We came across Lira which used to be Flight and decided to give it a try. Service was excellent, though the two dishes should come around the same time. The pork belly dish was more than half way done before my Ube waffle w/ fired chicken came. Good thing we did not wait for both dishes because the first one would be cold. The pork belly both tasted ok but nothing special. It was strips of pork belly on top of rice and served with a soft boiled egg. Because it was pork belly strips, it was very lean for a pork belly dish. The Use waffle was nice and crispy with a chicken breast on the side. Chicken was not spicy at all and did not feel like fried chicken. The skin was crispy and the inside was moist. I am so happy to finally be writing this review. After having to cancel a previous reservation for Lira, we were finally able to experience this new downtown Campbell spot the other day. And it did not disappoint! All the great things mentioned here on Yelp is true. We ordered a few dishes and our favorites were the pork belly, the short rib, the crudo, and the scallops! But then the cocktails...oh my goodness, such great cocktails were had that night! We then ordered the Dubai chocolate cheesecake and the olive oil cake to end the already fantastic meal. Went here for my birthday! I am not accustomed to fine dining and very small portions with high prices, so that threw me off a bit, just know that is the type of place this is. However, the food is delicious- especially the desserts. Chef Tucker came out to the table and was so sweet and we were treated to a nice glass of dessert wine on the house. The restaurant itself is very beautiful and staff is super attentive. When I go again, I am sticking to desserts and drinks, since those were the highlights. Lira is a newer restaurant located in downtown Campbell that emphasizes global flavors and seasonal menus. They've nailed the aesthetic with a gorgeous bar area and a long open dining space. Service and the food is a bit uneven, but hopefully, just opening kinks. We stopped by for a business day on a weekday and the restaurant was quiet. We asked for sparkling water and a small bottle was provided but no glass. After finishing, we asked for another bottle several times before being told it was coming. A large sparkling bottle arrived this time, but again, no glasses. We ordered a sampling of appetizers and entrees and were told ordering family style would be perfect. The dozen raw oysters ($52) were plated gorgeously and looked fresh but the temp, rather than chilled, was served completely warm and room temperature. Our lamb platter came next and had three ribs, making it hard to share for a party of four. Would have happily ordered another rib if given the option. They missed the pasta order the first time we ordered but luckily they were prepared fairly quickly upon reordering. Again, two large bowls of pasta for sharing yet no utensils given until asked to share among colleagues. The pasta dishes were on the saltier side, especially the gnocchi carbonara, likely from the pecorino cheese. Overall, a nice addition to downtown Campbell with a very nice dining room. Hopefully they work out some of the kinks regarding service and food. Lira is all indoor dining and accepts credit cards. Walk-ins and reservations taken. read more

I recently found Lira on Yelp. After a bit of research I discovered that it recently replaced Flights and was opened by Tucker Ricchio, winner of Next Level Chef S2. I don't watch the show but am well aware of it, and it's cool that she is a San Jose native and NDSJ alumna like me. We didn't personally meet Chef at the restaurant, but I did see her greet the table next to us. Chef seemed so humble and chill. Anyway, back to the matter at hand... I made dinner reservations for 5:30pm the Friday after Valentine's Day, and my husband and I unanimously felt like we had a fantastic dinner at Lira. The ambiance, service, food, and drinks exceeded my expectations. We've been to several new fine dining establishments in the area, but Lira has been my favorite by far. Lira was modern but elegant, and I liked how clean the wait staff looked in their black uniforms. Speaking of staff members, everyone was hospitable. We had a head waitress named Maddison, who was amazing. She was highly attentive, and I loved her energy. We just jived with her so well. We interacted with other waiters, who bussed our tables and dropped off plates, and they were just as friendly. Appreciated that the wait staff explained each dish and detail, and I was pleasantly surprised that they provided new plates and flatware between each order. Reason I liked this was because I got to try each item on a clean slate sans mixing flavors and cross contaminating dishes. Lira had items that were incredibly unique and tasty, so it was refreshing to try things were innovative and adventurous. I tried things I never had before. I was a huge fan of their version of an espresso martini, which had this beautifully creamy layer. Interestingly the cocktail tasted like a boozy butterscotch coffee cocktail. I had their Sichuan old fashioned, which tasted a bit too basic. I requested it to be swapped for their caprese martini that straight up tasted like a liquid caprese salad. the flavor was spot on. Can't knock it 'til you try it. My husband and I shared the following items: - Roots Salad Huge fan of this. Loved the - Scallops and Hummus This was the best dish of the night. The scallops were cooked perfectly, but it was honestly the hummus with its crispy chickpeas and textured capers that made the dish for me. - Braised Beef The braised short rib was extra tender and fell apart with the pull of a fork. The truffle flavor of the polenta was subtle, which was a great contrast to the blue cheese foam that I loved. - Duck and Farro Least favorite because the duck tasted gamey to me. Stilly tasty though, and I enjoyed the pomegranate, farro, and microgreens salad. - Dubai cheesecake I don't like Dubai chocolate to begin with, but I went along with this dessert out of intrigue. Loved the strong rose and pistachio flavors, and the cheesecake was dense yet smooth. Definitely a decadent dessert, and the thick dark chocolate ganache attributed to that as well. - Olive oil cake Solid dessert. Moist cake and subtle olive oil flavor. - Passion fruit mango tart We got this to go, and it was delicious from its thinly cut mango slices shaped like a flower to its delicate crust. Each order came out in a continuous flow of food. There wasn't one time when I felt like there was a lull between one food to the next. Last but not least, we got complimentary limoncello shots and a give-away bag that looked like mini Birkins with M&M's. They really know how to treat you! read more

I don't really watch any reality TV (except for my guilty pleasure of the Bachelor series....) but nonetheless was excited when my husband told me that Chef Tucker had won the second season of Gordon Ramsay's show, and recently opened this restaurant a few weeks ago. As soon as we entered the restaurant (which used to be Flights), I was delighted how they transformed the spot into a beautiful modern, swanky space. I also loved how sweet and welcoming Chef Tucker was, talking to all the tables, and taking pictures with guests. Drink menu is great with plenty of beers, wines and cocktails. I loved the wine that our waitress Madison recommended. She also really elevated our entire experience. She was so sweet and personable, checked in on us often and just enough. All the support wait staff that brought us dishes, new silverware, cleaned the table etc were wonderful as well. The menu is sweet and concise with a few small plates and a few large plates. We started with the Root Salad which was super cute in presentation- with the beets and carrots standing up like a little forest. That being said, it was a bit too light and small plate for the price, and I'd pass on it the next time we come. Really enjoyed the Bone Marrow, which was just incredibly juicy, but the cut was a bit too small to share, with the amount of bone marrow spreadable on only one of the two toasts provided. We had trouble deciding on the main entree, but opted for the Gnocchi which was such so so pillowy. My favorite dish of the night though was the dessert- her Dubai cheesecake. I'm not even a huge fan of cheesecake, and cheesecake is almost an understatement. It is this beautiful dish covered with edible gold, with rich soft chocolate completely coating a creamy interior. Definitely must get! This was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a while from the ambience to amazing service and delicious food. 5 stars to Chef Tucker and Madison and the rest of the staff ! read more

I had the absolute pleasure of trying Lira out on a Wednesday evening. We had at reservation at 8pm and were seated promptly upon arrival. Food: The menu has a variety of small plates and larger plates. My friends and I decided to order a number of things to share: Shishito Peppers - These came with more peppers than we were expecting! The peppers were good and the dipping sauce was good as well. Sunchoke Veloute - This was my favorite dish. It was absolutely delicious. It was creamy, decadent, and perfect for the cool, wet weather we've been having. Roasted Carrot Beet Salad - This was a very pretty dish. The puree on the bottom was creamy and delicious. Gnocchi - We ordered this without the pork. It was pretty good. The gnocchi was pillowy and so good. Scallop Dish - We ordered this dish two ways. The first was the original way with scallops and the second were with mushrooms. The flavors here were very good. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly. Pork Belly - I didn't try this one, but my friends thought it was really good. They loved the sauce. Dubai Cheesecake - This was creamy and a lot lighter than I thought it would be. It was delicious. Death By Chocolate - This was flambéed tableside. I thought it was great. The berries and raspberry sauce on the bottom was good. Service: Service was excellent. Our server was very attentive and helpful with our questions. The drink specialist director came over to introduce himself. One of the co-owners came to our table to see how everything was. For dessert, as we were celebrating a birthday, Chef Tucker came out to do flambee our dessert. Service was amazing all around. Lira has a stylish atmosphere and attentive service. We tried the Sake Mussels, Scallops with Octopus, Za'atar Lamb, Olive Oil Cake, and Dubai Cheesecake. The mussels and olive oil cake were the standout dishes --flavorful and perfectly cooked. Some dishes felt a bit underwhelming, ie scallops not evenly seasoned (some more salty than others) and carrots were undercooked. Overall, a good experience, but we were expecting a bit more from this place. read more

I had the pleasure of attending the soft opening of Lira in Campbell, and I can already tell this place is going to be a favorite. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was amazing--upbeat music, a classy ambiance, and an energy that made the experience feel special. The food? Absolutely incredible. We started with the hamachi crudo (I hope I'm spelling that right!), followed by the filet mignon and beef short ribs. The filet was hands-down the most tender I've ever had--perfection on a plate. And then there was the Dubai cheesecake. Let me just say, the marriage of flavors in that dessert was pure harmony. It was truly the pièce de résistance of the meal. What I would say to the foodies is the gentle yet present allure of the distinctive flavors in a non pretentious way is why this is going to be a great place to eat. Nothing overwhelms but every bite brings a new complexity. Foam blue cheese. Basil in potatoes. The crunch in the cheesecake. Subtle yet profound in experience. The service was good ( kinks will get worked out I am sure ) , and the bar is pretty and deep. I even joked with the co-owner, Faisal, that we might as well set up a standing reservation because we'll definitely be regulars here. If you're looking for high quality food, a diverse bar, and good service, Lira is the place should be on your list. It's going to be a gem in Campbell! read more

Upscale dining in Campbell downtown - wife took us there to dinner for our anniversary They were very sweet and gave us a card and champagne on the house - great start ! We took 2 appetizers - the burrata - peach salad which was very nice (4./5) with great dressing and the mussels which was also very yummy and fresh . (4/5). We then moved to share the lamb chops in zaatar as entry - the meat was excellent and well prepared but there was no trace for zaatar (4/5). For desert we shared the Dubai cheesecake which was superb - excellent dessert which was also not too sweet (4.2/5). They also give you limoncello on the house which is a nice gesture and was of good quality. They need a little bit more to become a 5 star - for example the filtered water is not served cold , we didn't get wet ones after the mussels, the AC is non-existent and this was a hot day ....but a great start !! This was supposed to be a special birthday dinner date that my husband meticulously planned for me, but it turned into the most horrendous dining experience I've ever had. We dined at Lira on November 14th. The Service (or Lack Thereof): The Menu Shortage: We arrived for our 6:45 PM reservation only to be told by the manager that they didn't have enough menus. We were told they'd bring them "later." Ignored for 35+ Minutes: We sat with nothing but water for over half an hour. To make matters worse, a table of six was seated after us and received their full entrees while we were completely ignored. The Drink Mess: After 40 minutes, the server told me they were out of ingredients for my drink. When I picked a second option, she tried to insist I wanted a drink with celery (my most despised vegetable). We thankfully stopped her before it was made, but the incompetence was staggering. The Food Fiasco: An hour into our reservation, someone dropped off a scallop dish. A while later, a server asked if I'd "received the scallops yet," and I realized the plate I was eating wasn't even intended for our table. We were so starving that my husband and I just shared them. Once we finished, the server finally asked my husband if he "still wanted his meal or if he wanted to cancel it." I finally lost my cool - of course he still wanted his dinner! The Aftermath: My husband didn't realize that my friends had actually made a separate reservation to take me back to this same spot the following night for a second birthday celebration. After this performance, there was no way I was going to step foot in this building again or give them another cent of our money. I texted my friends from the table to cancel those reservations and book elsewhere. With service this disorganized and insulting, this restaurant won't be in business long. Super disappointing. Don't waste your special occasions here. *Edit - it looks like Lira has closed. With the service we experienced, I am not surprised in the slightest. I am hopeful that whichever future business occupies this space is more successful. read more

Food quality: 3/5 Value: 1/5, close to giving zero, but some food was good. Presentation: 4.5/5, thank god they could at least be pretty Attention to detail: 1/5 (Both food and service) Service: 2.75/5 Vibes: Elegant, but who cares if you're sweating in the restaurant. Times been: 1 Return? I would rather pay for my own McDonalds meal than have someone else pay for my meal here. For context, I rarely give bad reviews. I promise. First, I give Lira 2 stars instead of 1 because some of the food is quite good. For example, my duck breast was cooked perfectly, my moms scallops were cooked well too, and I thought the salmon crudo and beef tartare were tasty (but very expensive for the amount you get). However, besides a those few highlights, my family and I have little to nothing good left to say about Lira. Generally, I dislike commenting on the value of the food at nicer restaurants like Lira, but the price to 'calories' to quality ratio is just horrible. The beef tartare being $58 and halibut being $60 are great examples of this. Of course, small amounts of food for a high price can be justified by the dish being excellent in all aspects, but Lira fails to come close to being excellent in even one category (besides the duck breast, but not the dish, only the duck itself). It would pain me to give an exhaustive list, but here are a few specific ways in which Lira lacked: Halibut was not cooked well, the inside was still moderately clear and therefore tough; The apricot coulis was spicy, despite not being labeled as spicy on the menu, and nothing that was served with the duck actually complimented the duck (also, the fennel tasted like it was 'braised' in water...); The octopus was mushy and close to inedible; and, finally, instead of a complimentary dessert for my mom's birthday, we received limoncello of a quality that might satisfy an already drunk frat boy. Along with the food being meh, everything else was somehow meh. The restaurant was hot, the water is warm and served it without ice (they also do not ask if you want ice or cold water), they constantly bring the food/drinks to the wrong table, and the bench seating is far too shallow to be comfortable. For such an elegant restaurant, it is disappointing that the looks are so deceiving. Also, the $225 for the 45oz tomahawk ribeye is such a joke. I asked the waiter what grade of beef the ribeye was, which led to him asking me "why, is something wrong with it?" I mentioned that it was difficult to justify the price of the dish given its subpar quality--my brothers who split the dish all agreed that I make far better steak at home--which led to the waiter mentioning that the price on the menu was wrong and the price of the dish is actually $180 instead of $225. I cannot help but wonder if the dish would've been $180 if I did not say anything, as it was never mentioned to us before I complained. In all, Lira should offer my mother an apology for ruining her birthday dinner. Great spot right on Campbell Ave. with an amazing happy hour (11-5!). Loved the ambiance and quality of food. I had the (vegetarian) brussel sprouts and crab toast. Both were well prepared and delicious. I had beers this time, but look forward to trying their array of delicious cocktails with a future dinner. This restaurant is elegant, modern, and classy--perfect for a date night. One thing that stood out right away was how clean everything was, especially the bathroom (which is a big deal for me!). The bathroom featured a beautiful stone marble sink that lit up such a nice touch. Cleanliness is important to me because I always feel like if the bathroom isn't clean, the kitchen probably isn't either. Thankfully, Lira passed with flying colors. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, the customer service was excellent. My bartender, Chewy, was amazing he went above and beyond. He even made me his signature bourbon cocktail, and let me tell you it was to die for. Hands down, the best bourbon I've ever had and I've traveled a lot. Most bourbon cocktails I've had elsewhere are too syrupy, but this one was perfectly balanced. Fun fact: Chewy actually won first place in a blind taste test for best bourbon & I see why! They also have a great beer selection. I tried their double IPA, which came in at around 8.6%. It was crisp, cold, and full of flavor exactly what you want in a good IPA. Most places don't offer great IPAs anymore, so this was a pleasant surprise. Another bonus? Lira offers happy hour Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.--yes, that's not a typo. As for food, I tried a few small bites. The steak with chimichurri sauce was very tasty. I wasn't a fan of the crab crostini, though; it tasted a bit too fishy for me, and I'm guessing it wasn't Dungeness crab probably rock crab instead. But honestly, everything else made up for it. The menu leans on the pricier side, but as they say you get what you pay for. Lira has only been open for about five months, so they're likely still ironing out a few things. Still, the exceptional service alone will keep me coming back. As we all know, it's rare to find a place with both great food and great service usually, you get one or the other unfortunately these days. I'm looking forward to trying their entrees and desserts on my next visit, and definitely checking out their happy hour soon! read more

Very disappointing experience and we won't be coming back. A few key issues: 1. Drinks took a very long time to arrive. 2. The biggest concern: two mocktails were mistakenly served as alcoholic drinks -- one to a pregnant friend and one who is sober. We only discovered this after asking the server to double-check. This kind of error is a major safety concern and should never reach the table. 3. Management's response was inadequate. The manager's apology felt perfunctory, and the only attempt to make it right was offering to comp a single dish or a dessert - which didn't reflect the seriousness of serving alcohol to someone pregnant. Accidents happen, but how they are handled matters. Unfortunately, the lack of care and accountability here left us very uncomfortable. We won't be returning. read more
