The same welcoming staff every time, the same quality food, huge portions, coffee flowing, a mirrored ceiling and vibey leather booths ... what more can a girl ask for! On our way back from Santa Cruz we picked this restaurant randomly. A very good choice we made. It was Friday evening, we arrived Dan immediately seated us. He gave us the menu for dinner we wanted breakfast. Dan swapped out our menus, made a fresh pot of coffee he was exceptional. As we were ordering Dan gave us recommendations- and Dannnn I'm glad you did, everything you recommended was spot on and extremely delicious. Shout out to the chef. I had the country fried steak meal, with hash browns (they could have been seasoned more). I couldn't get the Belgium waffle, and Dan recommended the banana pancakes and these were the most delicious. The country fried steak had a perfect crunch, and tenderness flavors bursting absolutely loved it. My sister had the ribeye steak meal and the steak was tender, seasoned, very good. My husband ordered a side of French toast and he said that it was ****ing delicious, the best he had (he orders French toast with breakfast at diners and restaurants so this is should say a lot). Perfection well put. Overall experience, the cleanliness, decor, nostalgic feeling, food and service deserves more than 5 stars. Wonderful breakfast/brunch place. Was introduced to this restaurant by my Rotary Club and have been back 3x for brunch. The decor is "old school" but it has a lot of character and its nice to visit a place with regulars as well as newbies. What we like most are the food choices (many with seafood and served as ordered) and quality of food, the friendly servers and attentive service, and the reasonable prices. Parking has always been ample. Menu would be enhanced with some gluten free bakery items (e.g., bread) and pancakes. Definitely will go back. read more

Hey there Party People Effie's is a hidden gem that I was lucky enough to discover. You walk in the door and you get transported back to the elegance of the Film noir era. The restaurant has a great lounge feel that makes you crave an old fashioned Martini. Our waitress Gina was fabulous. She made you feel like you were coming over to a friend's house for the family meal. Super warm and inviting. I had the Monte Cristo. This was the most perfect Monte Cristo I have ever had in my 58 years on this planet. The sandwich had a delicate crispiness because of the egg batter. There was a large amount of turkey and ham with the perfect oohwe gooyee cheesey layer all wrapped together. If you have never had a Monte Cristo sandwich you MUST MUST make this your first. I got the potato salad as a side. It was like a taste of childhood. I know it sounds cliche but it was just like Mom used to make..delicious! My Hubby got the French Dip. I'll tell you he is a French Dip snob so for him to say it was Delicious is very high praise. There was a ton of meat which was perfectly lean. Nothing worse than biting into a hunk of fat. Not a problem here...no fatty bites in this sandwich. Also for those that crave a good horseradish you will be in heaven here, it's made in-house not watered down version here. Came for breakfast Saturday morning and was impressed with the quality of the service. Our server Alfonso was attentive and friendly. My husband and I ordered the chicken skillet(and added jalapenos) and an order of french toast to share. The skillet was loaded and came out hot. The french toast was nice and soft as well. It was the perfect amount to share between 2 people. The food is decent and the interior is a little out dated but this is the kind of place you come to for the service. We came to eat and left, the place smelled like smoke - both outside and inside. We ordered from them via doordash instead. I wanted mashed potatoes, my daughter wanted a burger - it was the only reason we selected this place: it was close to home and had what we both wanted. Doordash allows to select a side for their dishes - I odered chicken with a side of mash, and got rice instead :((. I really hate rice! Had I known it inly comes with rice, I would not have selected this dish. Chicken was ok. My daughter's burger was soggy. Fries were dry. Never ordering from here again! So disappointed! read more

We have been going to Effies Sunday mornings for some time. Because of the after church crowd Sunday mornings are always noisy but the food is worth it. This morning it was both exceptionally noisy, the kitchen was clearly overwhelmed, and one of the waiters (who I will refer to as "tall guy") was also belligerent and rude. He was not our waiter but the service was so bad I stopped "tall guy" and asked for coffee after I had been was waiting some time. "Tall guy's" response was really rude and belligerent to me as well as being shouted at when he was three tables away! I watched him and he was not really helping wait tables - he appeared to be only wondering around. The kitchen was overwhelmed - waiters (except for tall guy) were working very hard. Our real water (#7 on our receipt) was excellent and apologized 3 times but the long delay was clearly not his fault. I think this is no longer our go-to Sunday morning breakfast place anymore. My comments to management after today's visit are: (1) you have lost a Sunday regular client, (2) if you can't handle the guests don't book the large groups such as the one today which was seated on the patio, and (3) understand that it is the rudeness and attitude of "tall guy" that made me decide not to come back. read more

This is my last review for 2024. Effie's is a restaurant that has been in business for 30 years located at 331 W Hacienda Ave, Campbell, CA 95008. I have eaten here 5 times for breakfast, lunch and dinner and was really impressed with the quality and taste of the food. The prices are fair, service has been excellent thanks to the 3 servers I experienced, Michelle, Dan and Alfonso. Everyone works as a team, including the employees that buss. Although the restaurant has a rustic look to it, it is kept very clean. They have 3 restrooms (1 is ADA) and the restaurant was very nicely decorated for the holiday season (see picture). So why such a poor overall rating? Most of the ratings are over a year old and refer to the bar and Karaoke. A new owner came in July, 2024 and apparently made several positive changes. This review focuses strictly on the restaurant. So what did I like? Everything I tried including omelets (wow), pancakes (my favorite), turkey dinner (excellent stuffing), pasta, vegetables, soups, oysters rockafeller (amazing), chicken wings, and the list goes on and on. Effie's is like a trip back in time, but in a good way. There are comfortable booths, soom between the tables, and you can actually have a conversation. The seafood salads and the Caesar are my favorites. We always get ice tea and an entree, but we're treated like we ordered the most expensive thing on the menu. Gina is our favorite waitress. She's funny, friendly,but always professional. I never have to ask for a refill or wonder if my order will come out correctly. And I don't have to wait forever for the check, a pet peeve. An old relic with a throwback vibe. I wasn't expecting much at this place. It looked like a place from generations prior like an American grandmother's house. Despite the decor, the food was really good. I had Effie's special breakfast which was really inventive. A twice baked potato with omelette filling. It was a pretty big plate for $18. This place is effie'n awesome! Alright, I'll be honest. The food I got was mediocre at best. While I enjoyed the fresh tomato slices and the dill pickle, the half-pound burger was dry, even after drowning it in condiments, and the bun was so old it "broke". The shoestring fries and onion rings tasted like they came from a generic brand like Great Value, Penny Pinchin, or Super Saver. However, I didn't ask for a replacement or a fix, so I won't deduct any stars for that. The ambiance is strange. One third of it is the lounge, a dark divey bar with a window into the odd restaurant, which reminds me of an old 1970s supper club from Palm Springs, with a splash of off-strip casino: one big unintentionally kitschy room with a loud carpet, white linens, and jade green upholstery. Think gangsters and grandpas. Love it or hate it, it's special. One-third of the place is a lounge, a dark, divey bar with a window looking into the unintentionally kitschy restaurant. The restaurant itself feels like a blend of an old 1970s Palm Springs supper club and an off-strip casino, featuring one giant room with loud carpet, white linens, and jade green upholstery, perfect for gangsters and grandpas. Love it or hate it, the ambiance is special. The five stars are for the service and karaoke. The bar manager, Rachel, was incredibly nice, and Kerrie was fantastic in the bar--very attentive, fun, and generous with the drinks. Metro readers voted Effie's as having the Best Karaoke in Silicon Valley in 2022, which is impressive for such a small, no-frills place. I credit the regulars for making my friends and me feel welcome, the fast pace, and the host Bill, who sings dutifully without much flair, just like someone's dad. He's not attention-starved or aiming for Hollywood stardom. A heads-up: Biil can be a bit like the "No Soup For You" guy from Seinfeld. To request a song, go up to his left ear and say your first name and last initial. Once he types that in, then give him the song title and artist, making sure he can spell it correctly (e.g., "Bawitdaba," "7empest," "Wet A** P****"). If you ask for something unspellable"Sk8er Boi," you might as well just leave. Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated? read more

Gina, our waitress for years, is wonderful. with good humor, care and attention, she makes the experience fun for all. Calls us by name, knows what we're going to eat before we place our orders. Our groups of fifteen this morning placed our orders and soon Gina was delivering them to our tables. She is an absolute joy!
