After a disastrous experience at the Morgan Hill Willard & Hicks, we decided to use the balance of our gift card @ the Campbell location. What a breath of fresh air! The service was excellent and the food superb. We started with the coconut shrimp in a peanut sauce - fantastic. The chocolate old fashions were out of this world. For $2 more, we split the ONE pound hamburger. 1/2 is more than enough for an adult. The few fries were seasoned with a spicy coating that made them tasty & tangy. We finished off the afternoon with a chocolate lava cake & vanilla ice cream. Though we didn't have any whole cuts of meat (to vouch for the tenderness), this visit was very pleasant & satisfying. read more

I was looking forward to this spot after taking a peek at the menu last week while downtown and noticed they had a unique and tasty looking specials list. It was super disappointing to not be given a specials list when we sat down (and then I got distracted and didn't ask if there were any specials of the day). To be fair, we came when USA was playing, so maybe everyone was distracted. We started with two mocktails that were nothing to write home about and a calamari dish. The calamari was fine, I did enjoy the fried slices of lemon, that was pretty tasty. Our entrees (scallop risotto & pork chop) were for sure the star of the meal, as they should be. My scallops were cooked and seasoned perfectly and my husband's pork chop was equally cooked to perfection. The real downer of the evening was the side of brussels sprouts we shared. Honestly I should have sent them back. They were burnt to a crisp on the outside (which I typically love) but raw on the inside. The restaurant was only half full and the drinks took 30 minutes to come, and the food took over 1 hour for the first plate to come out. Portion sizes are decent, but the quality you get for the food is definitely not worth the price FOOD: Calamari (7/10) - Probably the best thing we got. Fried well without being too greasy, sauces go well with it too. Portion size is pretty small though French Toast (5/10) - Way too much sugar, and texture of the bread is pretty non-existent. Would skip Pappardelle Pasta (6/10) - Meat and sauce is really really salty, pasta has good texture though. Small portion Side of Mushrooms (7/10) - Solid dish but way too much oil / butter Surf & Turf (5/10) - Steak was cooked pretty rubbery, and lobster was not too flavorful. Would skip. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Planning our party of 50 was incredibly easy thanks to Roisin, the manager. He was extremely helpful with recommendations for the food, setup, and overall flow of the event. He was also very accommodating with our requests, including TV access for our slideshow and allowing us to bring in decorations. What we appreciated most was how flexible and responsive Roisin was throughout the entire planning process. We had a very short turnaround time between our initial contact and the event, and he made everything come together smoothly, even as plans changed along the way. He was also available throughout the event to make sure everything went well. The entire staff was pleasant, attentive, and helpful, and the food and service made the celebration even more enjoyable. The pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the level of service and flexibility we received. We would absolutely recommend this restaurant for a private party or special event. What an amazing restaurant! Willard Hicks has to be one of my favorite spots to dine now. I first came out to their resto about 1.5 years ago and it was delish with great service. So, when I needed a spot for a work luncheon event where we wanted some privacy, I contacted them right away. And Rosion, their Banquet Manager, is awesome! He was so quick to respond via email and helped me plan this special luncheon with ease. There is no minimum room fee for the private dining space (we were in their larger room that can fit 16 a little tight, so 15 or 14 people will probably be perfect), and their staff was attentive and oh so helpful. They helped cut and served the cake I brought. Plus the food, well, YUM! Everyone enjoyed their order (I had one person say their salmon was a little too salty, but I loved mine!) and just had a great dining experience. I visited this restaurant today for lunch in downtown Campbell. Overall, the service was great. I love the look of the restaurant and the lovely plants. I'm a plant person lol The mango habeñero wings were delicious with a light smoked taste. The vegetable garnish combo was definitely a plus. I would have this again. I was going to choose a different dish at first, but then one of the servers walked by with the steak burger and it looked so good. The burger itself was cooked the way I asked (medium well) and huge with lots of veggies. However, the flavor combo was just OK to me, I really wasn't a fan of the seasoning on the fries, but I may go back and try a different dish. read more

Went here for a birthday dinner. Started with happy hour. I had the Abigail - sweet like an orange soda. My husband had the the vintage Manhattan which was delicious. The dirty martini was good, made with the well vodka. Also had the potato boats - so good with cheese and crumbled candied bacon. Also shared the southern wedge which was one of the best wedge salad I have had. Dinner I had Prime Rib - nicely cooked, creamed spinach was delicious but potatoes were very bland as was the Au jus. I had high expectations, but unfortunately this was a pretty underwhelming experience. We ordered the Peppercorn NY Strip, Ponzu Ribeye, and Bone-In Ribeye, along with the mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and Parmesan fries. The only standout was the Parmesan fries, which were easily the best part of the meal. The steaks, however, lacked seasoning and could have used a much better sear. Cornbread: 8.5/10 Sweet and not too spicy. Great to share. Scallop risotto: 8.5/10 Really solid risotto. Good flavor and rice was cooked well. The scallops weren't not the freshest and a bit chewy. Burger: 9.5/10 As far as burgers go, this one is really good. They do overcook the edge, so it was kind of dry, but overall, this is so filling and flavorful and juicy. I'll categorize the review for easy reading. Ambiance: Typical American restaurants, it's loud, kind of dark, not very comfortable seats with music playing. Service: This is their best quality, our server was very accommodating, especially for those with food allergies I like that they went above and beyond. Food: Oh boy.. you know it's not the restaurants fault when people go out to eat just to inhale large portions without any thought about quality of ingredients and flavor profiles. The steak was extremely chewy and bland, their tacos were dry and if you don't want onions the 4lb of onions they put on them, without it they're tiny. Their salads are typical, flavorless and expensive. The options are also very limited I don't understand why restaurants have the same thing on the menu for years. Change your menu, innovate, try quality and flavorful ingredients! Shrink your portions, charge less, if people want to eat more they can order more. read more

This is a review specifically for the Thanksgiving dinner. Nothing that we are quite grateful for the staff working on the holiday, and the opportunity for a prepared meal and service. However, the meal & experience themselves fell a little flat. The menu looked quite good, and we've heard good things about the restaurant so it seemed like a good chance to try it out. Everything started off ok with a good salad and delicious butternut squash soup. But that's where the good news ends. We had the turkey & prime rib as our mains. Both were room temp at best, and lacked almost any seasoning. Pretty bland. All of the sides were room temp or cold, and weren't bad- but not great either. Just ok. The table next to us was having even bigger issues with their order, and we didn't feel right complaining on a holiday. But for the price point, we were not impressed- and not really sure if it's worth coming back to try the regular menu. read more

I continue to visit this place every 6 mos and it's so hit or miss. The last few times have been pretty awesome. This evening the service was good, but the kitchen was as utter fail. I ordered a medium burger. When it came out it had no bun. Sent it back to the kitchen. When it came back to me the bun was package fresh, not even warmed. In additional the kitchen just picked up the burger added the bun and put it on same plate. Since the burger was juicy, the whole bottom outside of the bun was a dripping mess to pick up. Next time maybe put on a fresh plate. Either way got through about half the burger and it found it to be cooked rare . Asked for the remaining burger to be cooked some more. It came back pretty quick and it was either thrown into the oven or microwaved. Either way it lost its grilled flavor and was just a hot mess. There's a big difference between a grilled burger and a heated burger. Manager Daniel came by was apologetic and made it right. Will try again in a few months. read more

I hate to give a place a one star. That should be reserved for when they treat you like jerks. Not the case here. My wife and I had been once before, several years ago. At the time, we didn't understand what all the fuss was about. Supposedly, this was a great steakhouse. We found it "meh" at best. But now it's our daughter's 30th birthday and she wanted a nice steak dinner and had never been here so we figured we'd try it again. Maybe we just had bad luck the first time. So, my wife, daughter and son-in-law decided to give it a shot. Nope. We still don't understand what the fuss was about. The best thing about the evening was the hostess staff. Our waitress was ok but the service was slow. I don't know, maybe that's their style for a leisurely dinner. I can roll with that. We ordered some appetizers. Perhaps the best food of the evening was the french fries. For dinner, my wife and daughter ordered filets, medium rare. I ordered prime rib. Both filets arrived medium well. Seriously, how can a steak house mess that up? We sent them back. They made new ones that came back maybe medium. Oh well. My prime rib was tough and flavorless. The au jus and horseradish sauce, flavorless. To the restaurants credit, they comp'd the filets. They never apologized for getting it wrong. But, at least we didn't have to pay for them. But still, when you're paying $50, $60 bucks for a nice steak, you'd think it would be cooked properly and taste better. Oh well. We're going to hope to have a do-over with our daughter for her birthday steak. It's won't be at Willard Hicks. read more

My wife and I went last night to celebrate our anniversary. The staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered the wedge salad to start. It was delicious and split nicely for two. We both had the pork chop for dinner. It's our favorite on the menu. Both chops were cooked perfectly, they were moist and juicy. For our anniversary they gave us a stenciled chocolate chip cookie and ice cream which was a nice treat and a great way to finish a very tasty meal. We had a bottle of wine( Wednesday is half price wine on select bottles so ask) that really paired well with the chops. We also had a couple of cocktails before dinner that were amazing. We will definitely be back! We love the look and feel of the place but it was a beautiful night so we asked to sit outside which was absolutely the right vibe for the evening! read more

We had a party of four for an early dinner at the Campbell location on Tuesday evening on the patio. Food was great; the poblano cornbread was wonderful, and the main dishes ribeye steak and grilled bone-in pork chop were very flavorful and paired well with sautéed green beans, Brussels sprouts, and mushrooms. My wife ordered scallop risotto, which she said was too salty for her. Service was a bit hit and miss due to a large party at the place, and the mushrooms came out late, and we had to flag waiters to get their attention. The 2 sauces helps to lighten the fried items. The calamari steak pieces were not greasy at all. Pork chop - 4.5/5. Waitress said it's suppose to be cooked to a medium but it was almost all done. No pinkness at all. Bordering on dry. It came with a side of Mashed potato and roasted Brussel sprouts. The sides were delicious. Other then the temperature being off, the dish was great. Ribeye - 3.5/5. Hubby asked for medium well but it was rare to medium rare. That particular cut had a lot of sinew and it made it difficult to eat, especially with their dull steak knives. I didn't like that it was served on a wooden cutting board. Idk how many times it's been used and how much "stuff" is embedded into the wood grains. The shiitaki mushroom ponzu ginger glaze was too salty for my liking. The crispy onion strings didn't belong. Green bean side - 3/5. Incredibly salty. Almost wished I had rice to accompany it, but that wouldn't help balance it out. Dessert - 3/5. Complimentary for our anniversary. The description sounded awesome. Warm chocolate chip cookie paired with a refreshing scoop of ice cream. Cookie was not warm or gooey. Ice cream was bland. But it's the thought that counts right? Great atmosphere. If you have two kids under two, this is still a great place to go. We went at 5pm on a Friday, and they put us towards the back in a booth, which was perfect. We had our own space, and the kids could do what they want, Can I also say, the steak kids meal is , For only $12, you get huge pieces of steak. It was probably equivalent to 4-6oz worth and good quality too. This place was a huge disappointment despite the hype about it. Wedge salad comes with roasted peppers and a very sweet bacon crumble. If you are not into candied bacon, tell them to leave it off. Our orders came out and mine was a different dish than ordered in which the server's joked about the cook's ability to understand English as they took it away. (Really. In front of customers.) The steak I ordered came out which I ordered Medium rare and got a very small barely kissed by flame steak. Outside was seared and the inside rare and cold. My husband asked for ketchup and was given a very spicy cocktail sauce. And when they attempted to fix it, brought the same. We did not ask again. There was no manager to talk to that evening and none of the staff wanted to deal with issues of their food. So two entree's, a couple of drinks NA, a salad and a additional side ran $200.00. No attempts to problem solve some basic restaurant issues. Think this through, people. Portions were odd. Normal sized mains but sides are huge - so you kind of have to share which I don't love - I want to pick my own. Service - 1. For the price, service should be way better. Like, you have to try to be this bad. We had a young looking waiter who they probably hired from McDonald's. Bus person started clearing plates while people were eating and was smacking the dishes on top of each other on the table like we were in Dennys. Wine glasses sat empty and no offer of more. Water was empty the entire time - I finally had to get up and ask for more. Couldn't get the check to save our lives. Just - distractingly painful. Train your staff!!! Cannot recommend and won't venture there again until someone tells me they've upped their game on the service. read more

We popped in for a drink Monday afternoon while wandering Campbell. We sat on their outdoor patio out front which was quite pleasant. Our server was friendly, but very soft spoken and hard to understand when he spoke. My husband ordered gin and tonic while I had a Cosmopolitan. We also decided to share an appetizer and thought the Pesto Cheesy Bread sounded good. We just wanted something small (and shame on me for not checking pictures). We imagined slices of bread grilled with pesto and topped with a sprinkling of cheese. What we got was a whole loaf of bread that was cross cut and filled with pesto and tons of cheese. The flavor of the bread was fine, but the consistency was odd. This was not fresh baked. The crust was so hard that it was difficult to separate the slices even with the knife brought with. The middle of the loaf was slightly greasy from the pesto and quite cheesy. It was if the entire loaf had been reheated in a microwave, but left in way too long. Our server David was great -- kind, and full of great recommendations. We started with the iron skillet poblano cornbread, and it completely blew us away. The roasted poblano flavor and jalapeño honey butter were out of this world -- easily one of the best cornbreads we've ever had. The steak burger was perfectly cooked, juicy, and loaded with flavor -- the brioche bun, bacon, and onion strings worked beautifully together. Their fries are thick-cut, crispy, and seriously addictive. Even though ribeye isn't usually my go-to cut, the Ginger Ponzu Bone-In Ribeye was prepared so skillfully that I was converted. The glaze was rich and flavorful, perfectly complementing the tender steak. Every dish felt carefully crafted and beautifully balanced. It's $9 for approximately big cut out potatoes of 10 pieces. Price wise it was not bad. But I didn't try any entree. I always get a drink and a most simple plate in a menu. Great ambiance! 5 Stars. Waiter came over way too many times to see if we wanted to order (without our 4th guest) AND the place was empty at 5:00 PM so there was no excuse. Then after 2 more visits to the table (once 4th member arrived) now total of 5 visits requesting , he didn't even get the very simple order correct - 2 burgers and 2 salads! One of the burgers was supposed to be lettuce wrapped with the aioli on the side, but instead both burgers arrived with the buns. In efforts to not be high maintenance and get over eating a bun, we asked as long as the aioli was on not on the bun we'd just accept it the way it arrived. He insisted that although they forgot to lettuce wrap it, it absolutely did not have the aioli on it (contains mayonnaise/egg allergy etc). Once we opened it absolutely 100% had the aioli on the bun. Waiter 1 Star. The food was excellent. Beginning with the ONE POUND burger it was absolutely delicious - best burger ever. Their fries - never disappoint.
