And the side of mash was like another $18 on top of the $78 for the steak and Brussels. My dinner with tip was $120... which if tasted like $120 I wouldn't complain. But I would have been satisfied paying $40 for below average tasting steak, Brussels, and mashed potatoes. If you feel you need to be pretentious and be in a bougie atmosphere, excellent spot. At this price level I'm recommending Distrito Federal or Naschmarkt wayyyyy over this. If you can't tell , I left angry. read more

I would say eating out on the patio we were largely ignored and it took forever to get anything we needed. Started with the WH Iron Skillet CornBread which sounded so interesting but was too dry. Would not recommend. The Chopped Salad was pretty good/average. I did enjoy the cornbread croutons. Their sides to share are a pretty good deal though- the portions for $10-12 were very large. The side Green Beans and the side Sizzling Shrooms were both well flavored. They have a kids menu but messed up and gave us the wrong dish- which was fine since they comped it. Honestly don't know why the rating is at a 3.5 because this place is so good I gatekeep it from everyone and its SO hard because its SO good to where I have to tell everyone about this place. We were greeted by a very pleasant server, David, who immediately acknowledged the celebratory reason we were going out this evening. I appreciated that as often times that is not mentioned, even though I make a note of it in the reservation. He was excellent, made great suggestions, and took care of our every need. We had a 8:45 reservation on a Saturday night. The best description I can give is diner service with steakhouse prices. Our server seemed annoyed from the moment we sat down. Never bothered to introduce herself and instead greeted us with a "do you know what you want?" It only got worse from there. Food was mediocre and surprisingly flavorless compared to previous visits. The server also disappeared for long stretches of time. We asked for the check and some boxes when she finally came back. She returned with boxes which she threw on the table and no check. Let me start by saying: these 5 stars are entirely for Jose. If it weren't for him, this would have been a 1- or 2-star review at most. When we were first seated, we waited quite a while without anyone acknowledging us--no greeting, no water, nothing. It wasn't until Jose, who seemed to be a busser and not a server, noticed us and stepped in that things finally started moving. He found our waitress so we could place our order, and from there, he took it upon himself to ensure we were taken care of. Jose consistently checked on us, brought refills without us needing to ask, and made sure we had everything we needed. He kept an eye on our table and was more attentive than our actual server, who only came by three times: to take the order, check in once, and drop off the bill. Honestly, the only reason we left a tip was because of Jose. As for the food--there's definitely room for improvement. The steak was cooked well, tender and flavorful, but the sauce that came with it didn't do it justice and felt like an afterthought. On the other hand, the ribs had great sauce but were noticeably dry. The flavors were there, but the execution needs work to bring it all together. That said, the ambiance was overall very nice--comfortable, inviting, and well put together. It had the potential to offer a great dining experience, but the uneven service and food quality held it back. Jose was the highlight of the entire visit. Management should not only recognize him, but also take a closer look at consistency in both service and food quality. Wait staff was friendly and genuine. The best part of our experience here was our fantastic server, Anastasia! She gets 5 stars just for her personality and customer service! Willard Hicks is known for their grilled steaks. They are expensive. Your entree price is mainly for the steak, but you do get one side of your choice. If you want extra sides, they are $9 each. In addition to ordering some cocktails and one mocktail, our party of four ordered Coconut Shrimp ($18) and Baked Brie ($16) for appetizers, 3 entrees (Filet Mignon, 8 oz. $54, Bone-in Rib Eye, 18 oz. $62, and Risotto w/three pan roasted scallops, $38, an extra side of green beans, $9, and a wedge salad, $14. I had high hopes for the coconut shrimp, but they looked slightly burned and tasted overcooked and slightly tough, and the sauce was more savory than sweet. My first immediate thought was that Costco's Coconut Shrimp were far superior to Willard Hicks. I was very disappointed. The baked brie appetizer was another disappointment. The crostini bread was so hard (almost stale) that it totally broke apart while trying to spread the brie. The baked garlic cloves were not fully cooked and hard. They should've been "schmeary" and soft-spreadable. Sigh... I wish I could say that something tasted notable, but sadly that just wasn't the case. Nothing stood out flavor-wise. My husband's rib-eye was just okay. I wanted melt-in-your mouth yumminess. Nope. Our loaded baked potato wasn't soft and creamy. I had to use a knife to break it down to get a manageable bite. My wedge salad was probably the best part of my meal. The iceberg was cool and crunchy, and the bleu cheese dressing was runny and cheesy. Dessert was an affogato, $8, and the butter cake, $12. Will I return? Probably not. For the amount of money we paid, I wanted a "flavor bang-for-my-buck" experience. We didn't get it. Our dinners set us back over $150 without tip or wine and to be honest, we've had better steaks at Black Angus for half the price. They also take forever to deliver your meals. Pro tip: it already comes with the huge brick/steak fries so if you order this then don't get the fries appetizer. The ribs are my second favorite. Very tender with meat falling idd the bone. Perhaps a bit too much BBQ sauce. And the mashed potatoes are good too. I'm going to say the ribeye steak is just so so. Honestly kind of bland and needs seasoning or at least salt. A Special Night Out at Willard Hicks - With a Few Surprises! We recently made the trek (a solid hour's drive!) to Willard Hicks for a special birthday celebration, thanks to a friend's glowing recommendation. We made a night of it with a romantic overnight couple's getaway, so yes--we had high hopes! The Highlights: The food really delivered where it counts. The 14 oz. NY Strip with onion rings and the Grilled Swordfish were both cooked beautifully. The swordfish came topped with what was called an "apple stick salad," though it leaned more arugula than apple--but tasty nonetheless. The loaded baked potato paired perfectly with the steak, and the tower of jumbo fries with zesty dipping sauces was fun and flavorful. A sweet touch? A complimentary birthday cookie and half-scoop of ice cream alongside our (very shareable) slice of carrot cake. Our server, Taylor was friendly and attentive all evening. A Few Notes to Consider: Willard Hicks runs on an à la carte menu, which is great for groups or sharing--but as a couple, we found it added up quickly and the portions were a bit more than we needed. The Brussels sprouts $11, for example, could easily feed four (and were just okay), while the extra topping of peppercorn sauce for the steak could've used a bit more punch. And while the carrot cake slice $14 was moist and generously portioned, it tasted more like a spice cake (where are the shredded carrots?). Ambiance & Atmosphere: We were seated promptly at 7:30 PM in a comfy booth as requested, and the space filled up nicely after that. That said, we were caught off guard by the nightclub-style DJ music that made conversation a challenge at first--but thankfully, someone must've said something because the noise level mellowed out by cocktail time. We'd love to see a more balanced playlist that fits the evening out vibe (think more dining since there's no dancing), and we might be in the minority here--but the 3 large TVs above the bar showing sports and off-road mud battles felt a little off-theme for a special dinner spot. TVs could be seen by most tables but we didn't notice anyone interested so suggest saving TV sports for happy hours. In a Nutshell: Willard Hicks has solid food, a fun menu, and a lively atmosphere--just know what kind of night you're in for. It's a better bet for groups who can share and sample their generous portions, which were sadly wasteful for us. We had reservations for 7:30pm on a Friday and although we were removed from the waitlist because we arrived outside of the grace period window, they were still able to accomodate us very quickly. Our server overheard us saying we were celebrating w friend's birthday, and knew we wanted to keep it discreet, but still brought over a small birthday dessert to finish off our meal. As for our meal, we got fries and coconut shrimp to share. The fries were thick!! Think yucca fries, but potato. They had a nice cajun seasoning on it too, so yummy. There was still room for last minute reservations so I made one quickly on open table about 30 minutes before we showed up. It wasn't very busy on that Sunday when we showed up. The waiter we had was very attentive to our needs. The ribeye I ordered was amazing, I had it cooked medium rare. The New York steak was also really good. The sides that we ordered that come with the steak was the brussel sprouts and the sizzling mushrooms, both these were great choices as well. We also got the intruder drink and the Market delight. The bourbon taste wasn't too heavy in the intruder, which I liked! The market delight was good too. The garlic calamari came with a lot of garlic on top, which I loved, but unfortunately, the kids didn't. LOL. I came on Father's Day for lunch. I've been in Willert many times before and was excited to return for a great meal. Knowing that it was a special day, Father's Day, I figured it would be best to make reservations, which I did. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was pretty empty so we figured no worries. That should have been the indication of what was to come. We waited over 20 minutes and we were never seen by a server. We watched two other parties sit down after us who were served by the other server. Remind you there were only two servers working that day. The second server came over to the table that was seated after us and said have you guys been helped yet? At which the table responded no and they proceeded to order their meal. It was at that point we decided to leave, we were confronted by a member of the service team asking why we were leaving and we had to explain the situation which he said he understood and had he been a server he would've assisted us. The fact that we were confronted openly and quite loudly by a member of the service team regarding our decision to leave just put the experience over the top. My wife and I had an appointment in Campbell, and we were looking for a place to have a late lunch. We chanced upon the establishment beside Willard Hicks, but they had just closed for the afternoon. Fortunately Willard Hicks remains open throughout the day, so we decided to go in; we were already hungry. Upon entering, you get this old world vibe, the interior was cozy, the tall windows made it bright yet the atmosphere was relaxed; perfect for that late lunch or early dinner. To make a long story short, the service was good, and the food was great. My wife ordered the Ahi Poke Bowl, and I got the Now This Is A Steak Burger (yup, that's the name on the menu). It's a one pound beef patty with arugula, crispy onions, and bacon; but what sets it apart from other restaurant burgers is the addition of lightly roasted bell peppers instead of the usual slices of tomatoes. The massive burger comes with huge house cut fries, and small servings of ketchup and aioli on the side; perfect complement to the meal. I didn't attempt to eat the burger by hand because I knew I would make a mess. I know, some of you burger purists may be rolling your eyes, but it was just as well. After all, it was "steak burger." With knife and fork in hand, I dug in and it was burger bliss. I'm always on the lookout for great burgers, and I may have just found a new list topper! The poke bowl was scrumptious, that well-balanced umami freshness perks you up with each nibble. Although we didn't order drinks, I think a nice, cold dark beer would go well with the burger; and for the poke bowl a nice riesling or a gewurztraminer perhaps. I look forward to our next visit. The menu items are varied and the preparations look quite inviting. Parking is easy during early afternoon hours. There's both street parking and a free parking building nearby. This should be the case for all commercial areas, make it easy for customers to come and park free! Pretty sure this makes any area attractive to people.
