I have never dined at Capers before and my reason for dining there was they have live music and my friend just happened to be performing. Other than the small crowd that was there for my friend's performance,the restaurant wasn't really that busy for 7pm on a Saturday night. The restaurant has a nice open layout with a full bar in the center. The host was very accommodating to help us fine the best seats to not only watch my friend perform,but enjoy our meal as well. The waitress was friendly and had a new server shadowing her in training as this was only her third day.Both servers seemed knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered crab cakes as the appetizers and I ordered Steak bites and a side of garlic mashed potatoes and my husband ordered the shaved tri-tip meal. My dinner arrived before the appetizer and then about five minutes later came the crab cakes... and after about ten minutes my husband's dinner was served. The timing was a bit off...but the server was new and her trainer left for the evening.The new server was very attentive and friendly...but probably needs a bit more training. I'm a big fan of crab cakes...but not these ones. They were plated nicely,but they were really bland and tasted like they use a lot of bread crumbs as a filler. The steak bites were just okay,they were cooked medium rare as requested and quite tender...but nothing to rave about. My husband's tri-tip slices were cooked well done (ordered medium rare) and were so thin and dry,the only saving grace was the au jus. The garlic mashed potatoes were also lacking flavour. We shared a sundae for dessert which was pretty tasty. I've lived in Campbell for 38 years and have been coming here for 25 years ever since they opened in 2000 and have dined here hundreds of times. Most times are with my parents one being disabled with Parkinson's so a little accommodation is usually necessary from Capers when seating someone with a wheelchair. That being said they usually don't disappoint - until tonight....hence my need to have to yelp directly from the restaurant to relieve my frustrations to ensure that I don't physically go back in to slap the managers dumb beard off his face. I was basically dinner dining outside solo and after finishing my meal I requested a dessert menu. After 20 minutes had passed from receiving the dessert menu and still no waiter to come back to see if would like to order anything, I entered the restaurant to see if I could get someone to help me. The bar wa completely full and there was no hostess at the stand, so I looked to the back of the restaurant and recognized the same stocky bearded guy at the cash register that had brought me the dessert menu. I walked up to him and politely asked if he could please have someone come outside to help me with my dessert order and he basically told me that he was too busy to help me as the restaurant had just gotten busy. WTF - MR. Rude Beard guy...do you not know that you are in the HOSPITALITY industry? Apparently not if you want to tell a 25-year paying patron that you are too busy to help them instead of letting them know that someone would be with them shortly. So I had to go back outside and just wait and which point a waiter finally came out to see me 10 more minutes later. I asked the waiter for the check and to please speak with the manager, but instead the bartender walks out with the check and the manager refused to come out. Thanks for making my night negative, which you know is what most people want to experience when they go out to eat after their long workday and are paying money for over-priced food at your establishment. I always used to talk this place up - but now I'm on my mission to let everyone know this place is just a geriatric joke since homeboy with the beard decides that if he's stressed it's okay to treat customer's like sh**, and then after doing so, doesn't even have the BALLS to come out and speak with the customer.....and still hasn't done so in the additional 10 minutes it took me to type out this review. I used an old $50 coupon. I received from Costco many years ago and surprisingly there was no issue with them honoring it by many years ago I mean 5+ years. Came here on a Sunday, although there are only two workers that I could see we were seated promptly. My wife wondered the linguine Santa Maria. I got blackened chicken on pesto penne and we shared a lemon herb cauliflower steak. All three items were delicious in their own way. I've never had blackened chicken before and into my surprise. There is no burnt taste , and it's full of flavor a little on the salty side, but I enjoyed it. The lemon herb cauliflower with a delightfully tasteful a bit expensive for what it is, but I love fresh lemon herb flavor. My wife's pasta was a little bit on the lighter side when it comes to flavor profile, but still had good flavor, although I would prefer more saucy or creamy pasta as I feel like the items were combined together, but didn't necessarily flow if that makes sense. They have a bar and they were Niner fans here on the Sunday I came. They seem to have different live events and is a good spot for locals and sports enthusiast who like to enjoy a good time out with local fans. Items on the menu are a bit pricier than I would expect for what the item was, but overall good service in good tasting food. Menu is on the smaller side and portions could be a bit larger for pricing but overall, if you're looking for a local spot to enjoy and aren't looking for anything too fancy then I would check out capers. read more

This place was a letdown for me. We came on the recommendedation of a friend of the family, she used to be a waitress here and said we should give it a whirl. Apprently we came on a karaoke night. I'm sure it's fun for a sports bar or for the locals hanging out, but it was a no for me in a dining setting. Loud as heck, sensory overload and the waiter could not hear me nor I could hear them. The food was very average and overpriced for what it was. Forgettable meatloaf, bland, dry, stringy short ribs and bread that was rock hard. If the bread was complimentary I wouldn't have minded how hard and dry it was, but I do mind since it was $4.50, not worth it at all. Because of how dry the food is, I needed to gulp water, but the water tasted funky. I ordered a cocktail and the cocktail was probably the best thing I had there all night. It was a teeny glass but it did job. Service was meh, waiter seemed peeved after we asked to be moved away from the blaring loud karaoke set up. Sorry I didn't want my ear drums ringing all night. After we reported back to the friend of the family, she mentioned the experience for dinner wasn't great but that their happy hour is better. We arrived for our 5:30pm reservation and were promptly seated with waters arriving quickly and drink orders taken at the same time. Dinner order taken when drinks were delivered. We ordered a wedge salad to split which they did nicely. We had the shrimp scampi and the panko crusted salmon. Both were as delicious as we remembered. Then we ordered the creme brûlée for dessert and 2 coffees. We were told it might take a minute for coffee as he would brew a fresh pot for us. Dessert was great and coffee was fresh and hot. First of all, it was dead when we got in there and I'm honestly surprised that the two locations remain open due to the amount of business. Overall, the food portions were super small, the food quality was not very good, and the service was horrible. Food with nothing special at all and for a main entrée being around $30, it was not super filling, and the quality was just not there. We got the crusted salmon, the braised short rib, and they ahi tuna. We were also disappointed since the one thing we wanted the lamb was out of stock. They all came with rice and vegetables. Even after the three dishes, we were not fully satisfied and full. Our server was genuinely not the best and gave wrong information and then tried to charge us for bread and butter. Hey there Party People I have been driving by "Capers" for a while and finally decided to try it. Has a nice vibe for cocktail hour it's a very open restaurant so noise travels freely. Our waitress was very good...never had to ask for more tea We managed to hit happy hour they have a fair amount of options at a discount but it seemed a little pricey still. We got the Chicken Quesadillas. It was not the way I'm used to...it was literally boiled chicken and some Swiss cheese. You did get some sour cream and a Mexican sauce that helped allot. I was missing some chunky salsa with some heat and guacamole. Over all it just lacked flavor for me. For a meal hubby and I decided to split our dishes. We got the Angus Hamburger and the Cajun Chicken Sandwich with fries. Let's talk about the fries....i'm a bit of a fry snob so it's tough to impress me. These were very close to McDonald fries in size (thin) but where they lost me a little was the texture. Not as crunchy as I like but still very good. The Angus Burger was super tasty got some jalapeños and sarrachi aioli kicked the flavor up a notch. Perfect cook on the burger nice and juicy. The Chicken sandwich gave you the feeling of sitting in New Orleans just savoring the flavor the only thing missing was a jazz band. Definitely look forward to stopping again and trying something different. There was a Caucasian lady at the bar speaking about immigrants and Mexican people the entire time. She had obviously had too much to drink but they allowed her to continue. Screaming racial comments and making our entire experience very uncomfortable. If there's someone that's had too much to drink. Get them Uber home. Let your other customers enjoy their meal without any racist comments. I don't know if I'll ever be coming back. It's too bad. Had a gift card from Capers a friend gave me so we decided to finally go and use it. Went during happy hour so they weren't busy and we were able to order from the happy hour and specials menu. We started off with two beef sliders - and when we first got them we were not impressed. It's just a chunk of their meatloaf in between two soft rolls (look like Hawaiian rolls). But don't let the looks deceive - they were DELICIOUS!! I think even for happy hour $5 for ONE little slider was a bit much so for happy hour value - it wasn't worth it... We then got the caprese stuffed avocado. I was really excited about the dish. Overall all the ingredients were good but that sauce was VERY over powering. Thank goodness for the avocado but it was just okay... The dish I did enjoy was the crab cake Caesar salad. The crab cake was a good size, tasty and enjoyed with the crispy romaine with the nice caesar dressing was really good. Out of all the dishes I think this was my favorite. At the end we decided to get one of the specials - the lemon garlic cauliflower - which was surprisingly VERY GOOD. The cauliflower was charred and grilled perfectly with bit of garlic and a nice lemon sauce. We could only eat half of it - as it's a good size - I took the rest home and actually cut it up and put it into a omelet I made the next day and it was SO GOOD... I need to learn how to make this!! Service was okay - they were nice - though we stood at the front for the longest time as it was pretty quiet and folks were at the bar but it took a while for anyone to come and greet us and seat us. I usually am pretty positive about the places I try but given the lack of service and the food was just so so and still pricey for happy hour prices I don't think I'll be back. Bonus if you don't mind a bar friend, some really eclectic folks with funk stories to share are always around when I pop in. The staff were really lovely. I've only sat at the bar, but everyone I encountered were super helpful, honest and kind. They also knew a lot about the south bay, so I've learned a lot just hearing their stories. I am sadly not in this area, so I have not have to much on the menu, but the simple bites and sandwiches I have had I enjoyed. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating. Crab cake: 4.5 stars. Good amount of crab meat and not too much fillers. Sauce and veggies that came with it was pretty complimentary to the flavors - sweet and tart. Linguine Santa Maria: 4.5 stars. big enough for 2 I think and plenty of protein with shrimp and chicken. Love the spinach and artichokes. Short ribs: 4 stars. Good amount of carb and veggies. Tender short ribs. Can't complain. The outer exterior of the restaurant is nice they have patio seating which is good. As we entered the restaurant we were greeted by the manager and said you can seat anywhere you want. We told him we have reservation and would accept an early reservation. As we sat down and looking around the place nice bar and T.V I think 5 of them. Let's say this place is good and ready for any sports event televised on prime time. Again Thursday night didn't look that busy but later in the evening it stated to increase. Looks like the locals were coming out. Their happy hour is everyday was what originally brought us in. The cauliflower appetizer oh man yo died for. Make sure to order bread to dip in all the sauce. There is a large bar with chairs and TV Screens high enough so not to be too noisy. There's Patio Sitting for your 4 legged friends. The atmosphere is very welcoming. I would highly recommend Capers. Gluten free?? Think of the shell game - marked gluten free on the menu but it's not (are NOT GLUTEN FREE). Tried to order the tuna sashimi salad, which is clearly marked gluten free on the menu. Then my waitress came back to share the wonderful news it's not.. then offered it to me salad with out most of the items and without the balsamic (which is not gf - it's same dressing that's on tomato and fresh mozzarella salad that's marked gf on the menu). Then I heard my favorite words... and you can have it without salad dressing. OMG.. yes our waitress went there.. are you kidding me I can have a freakin salad with out dressing anywhere even at the bloody grocery store in the same parking lot for a lot less. And I can have the salad dressing with a bag of lettuce from Nob Hill/grocery store. I had to ask and I can't believe I did ask her in very polite and nice - would you normal eat a bowl full of lettuce without salad dressing... wow.. she said nothing and you could see the gears turning and her expression said it all (no way- like why would I ever do that). I didn't say what I wanted to say which was why would I spend +$20 on bowl full of lettuce and no salad dressing or anything but lettuce. If you ever a waiter - Please think about this and things before you say really stupid things. I thanked our waitress and then she offered me soy sauce (not gf soy sauce but regular soy sauce) as a option. help.. I do say at least she tried.. and did tell me there was nothing to eat at their restaurant per their chef. So I do appreciate the honesty. Watched hubby eat and went to grocery store to grab food afterwards.
