Walking into haberdasher always makes me feel like I'm going back in time. It's beautifully designed and has amazing staff. My husband and I had a baby free night out to celebrate my birthday and haberdasher did not disappoint. We went soon after opening so there was no line but I know they tend to have one later in the evening. We were greeted warmly at the door by the attendant who checked our ids. I was even wished a happy early birthday. When going into the bar, you walk down a staircase into a space that makes you forget you're in downtown San Jose with beautiful reds and burgundy decor. The staff is all smartly dressed; the bartender and bar back were both sweet and funny. I ordered a jack rose (my all time favorite), their seasonal watermelon waltz (this may be a new favorite for me, nice and refreshing) and one of their zero proof cocktails called a Mariposa which was soooo good as well. My husband ordered a couple old fashioned and a watermelon waltz for himself. We had an amazing time and look forward to coming back in the future. read more

My friends and I went to several bars down the street and none really stood out but we saw Haberdasher and needed to check the place out. There was about a 10 min wait. And they don't allow outside food in even if the food was leftover in Togo bags from dinner. The place was busy when we finally went inside. But the bartenders were fast and we got two rounds of drinks as far as we could order. The dim lighting did look reddish. The large tables were reserved but there plenty of smaller high tops around. Memorable drinks were the perfect pear and the Andean Ascent. Perfect pear was not fruity at all and had a nice aroma and spice to it. Haberdasher is one of those cocktail bars that immediately nails the mood. Dark, classy, intimate, and just the right amount of old-school speakeasy energy. The drinks were SO good. I had a key lime pie cocktail that somehow tasted exactly like dessert without being overly sweet, and the coconut pineapple drink we ordered was honestly addictive. And if you know about the secret menu... then you already know this place can make practically anything. That's where the fun starts. One of my favorite bars in the Bay. Haberdasher is an awesome speakeasy bar with a tailor shop/home-y vibe. They've always got a great selection on the menu but if you ask them to make you a drink based on a flavor profile you describe, they will also make you something stellar. Some must-trys at Haberdasher are the Black lodge and the Old Fashioned. They do something with the Old Fashioned that makes it really phenomenal. Date night in Downtown San Jose and stopped in at Haberdasher to check it out. Seen it on yelp and needed to cross it off of my bucket list. It was early so we got a place at the front of the line. A few minutes later we were walking down the steps to the speakeasy. Down the stairs and around the corner were some vintage decorations reminiscent of the past. Took another turn and we were greeted with red walls and bowler hat lighting, a cool touch. Walked up to the bar and Julie was welcoming and friendly. she prepared us some drinks all I can say is that she is VERY good at her craft as a bartender. She made us a special concoction called a coconut cream sickle. This coconut cream cycle was smooth, tropical light and very refreshing. It was so good that we ordered two more. Took our drinks and looked for table to sit at. The place is on the smaller side and seating seamed limited. Found a table and sat to enjoy our drinks. Downtown San Jose's first speakeasy is still going strong after all these years. Their bartenders are highly skilled and knowledgeable, and can recommend something for anyone's tastes or even make something custom for you. This time I loved a lot of their special Halloween drinks and also a lot of their caffeinated drinks, like their Tie Tea and Pumpkin Spiced Espresso Martini. Absolutely loved the Haberdasher! Such a fun speakeasy vibe that takes you back in time -- we really need more places like this. The vibe is nice and classy but still very fun and upbeat, with a dimly lit ambiance. Even the bathroom fits the vibe! Staff are also all dressed up in apt attire and are very attentive and both serve and clean up quickly. The Sampalok and little Betty were both delicious and very high-quality drinks! I came on a Friday night around 8pm and it was not crowded then, but within an hour it got really crowded, and after passing by the line was growing. Loved the drinks at Haberdasher. They had a holiday menu when we went, which just provided more options of tasty drinks to choose from. Pricing is reasonable for cocktails (about $18-19). Interior is very speakeasy vibes, small tables, dim lights and hat lamps! You have to order at the bar even if you're at a table (one bartender at each end of the bar), so during weekends there can be a line, but they worked through drinks crazy fast, so it wasn't too long of a wait. Staff was attentive and fast to clear empty glasses from the table and keep the water station full and stocked with glasses. They were also very helpful and will check if you just want to close out your tab at the bar (can bypass the line) or want to place another order. All in all, loved the experience here and would come back. Line outside can get long, so be prepared and better to uber since parking nearby is pretty bad (or expensive). read more

It brings out the better flavor aspects of scotch. On the first Thursdays of the month, they have a band 6-10. It's mostly rap. The music is quite good. Great vibe. Came here a couple of times with friends. I think this speakeasy takes you out of San Jose. We don't have many, and the vibe feels like you're time traveling to the 1920s. I had a hard time going to it for a while because there always seemed to be a long line. When you get downstairs, there's an adequate amount of seats and good ventilation. The noise isn't too loud. I think some of the cocktails are basic, but there are others that stand out. The menu is easy to read through a QR code. The service is always great, even with the guy working the door upstairs. For drinks, I usually go for a beer. I've had their watermelon cocktail which is refreshing. One of their cocktails is a pink peppercorn flavor inspired by the ice cream at Penny's; I felt indifferent about it as the pepper flavor wasn't that strong. This is a great speakeasy bar in San Jose. They get a lot of word-of-mouth advertisement for bartender's choice cocktails. I'd say their menu is pretty good and the bartenders are also quite good. However, the bartender's choice drinks I've seen people get are mostly just other existing drinks that are not on the menu. I think the quality of the non menu drinks also depends a lot on which bartender you get. All that said, I still bring folks here, as I think it's the best bar of its kind in South Bay. read more

Our group had a blast here last night! Great drinks, nice ambience and super friendly staff! What else can you ask for a wonderful Galentine? It was our first time at Haberdasher as a group celebrating Galentine together. We got there at 6pm on a rainy Thursday night. I highly recommend parking at the convention center garage which is just across the street from Haberdasher, instead of circling around trying to find street metered parking. We felt like celebrities walking down the red carpeted staircase leading to Haberdasher's main area. The vibes here was retro mixed with modern and we totally in love with it. Totally the vibe we were looking for. Personally, I enjoyed how friendly and attentive bartenders were! They made the best drinks! We tried the Pagoda (sweet), Oaxacan Traffic Jam (smoky and spicy), and the Strawberry Mojitos (refreshing with real bits of smashed strawberries). I really enjoy this place for some well made drinks. It does sometimes take some time to get in but I feel like it's so that everyone has a chance to get a seat or be comfortable within the space. This unassuming bar will surprise you with its attention to detail. When you walk in, you'll feel like you're transported to the 1920s. Leaning on the prohibition era and Chaplin aesthetic, this basement speakeasy has employees wearing bowler hats, mustaches, and ties. Their cocktails have cute, themed names, and even their light fixtures "wear" hats! Even though the bar can get quite busy, I appreciate how guests know to keep their volume down. My group tried three cocktails: Hunting Season, Tie Tea, and Pagoda. Hunting Season was a bit too strong for me. There was nothing to mask the alcohol and bitterness. Admittedly, it just wasn't the right drink for me, but I appreciated the presentation of it! The Tie Tea and Pagoda were both delicious, though! The sweetness of the oak syrup adds a slightly nutty flavor that pairs nicely with the Thai tea and coffee jelly. The half-and-half adds some body to create a very fulfilling and enjoyable drink when mixed with espresso liqueur, rum, and vodka. The uniqueness of the Pagoda really blew me away! It was the most beautiful drink among the three. I was intrigued by the basil oil floating on top of it. It's a light and refreshing drink that almost tastes like an alcoholic basil lemonade. I came on a Sunday night and it was packed! Parking was all street parking which was also pretty full. No wait for entry and we just found a counter to sit at until a booth opened. This bar is underground and they blast the air so it gets pretty cold. Menus are all QR and you go to the bar to order. Barista was great but took about 10min to order and 5min for drinks since there's only 2 baristas for the whole place which had a bunch of seating and it was a full house with many large groups so you can expect a longer wait on more packed days. 7/10 Golden Genmai $16 - Apricot flavor was strong and sweet. Not too special of a drink but also not bad. 6.5/10 Putter Up $16 - Passion fruit flavor was masked by the grapefruit and the mix was just more of an ok drink because you couldn't taste either separately. Still a refreshing drink with a pinch of sourness. 7/10 Sweet Stache $16 - uses a whole egg beaten in with a mixer so it's quite creamy. Flavor wise it's comparable to the first one but hard to describe. Not a bad try. 5/10 Matcha Flip $17 - off menu item that I asked for. It also uses a whole egg and has the same creamy consistency but their matcha used is low quality. Matcha strength was low, taste was bitter and a bit artificial. Friend got the Year of the Snake and I wasn't sure what to get so I asked the bartender recommendations for someone who usually likes sweet and fruity cocktails.
