if you're looking for a laid-back but still curated vibe, highly recommend paying Goodtime Bar a visit! My friend and I walked in on a Wednesday night and there were only a few seats filled / no wait time. You get your pick between a few tables indoors/outdoors, the bar, and a couch area which I felt really completed the community-forward space. We ordered at the bar and got a number to take to the table. You're able to sample a few things before deciding on which glass to commit to, which is always nice to have. All of the wines (tried whites, rosé and oranges) and food were amazing and really added to the overall experience! Still thinking about the tuna tostada and tom yum bucatini -- excited to pay them another visit to try more of their food menu. The service was consistent and was another huge plus on our experience. The workers kept up casual conversation and were extremely personable with us all night, especially since we were one of the last few visitors and the last table to leave. Definitely excited to bring more friends here in the future!

I totally understand how they made the top 100 in the SF Chronicle list, it's so well deserved! I have only heard golden reviews of goodtime bar through peers and thought it was a great time to finally check it out! I came here with a friend on a weekday for dinner and it was not packed at all. The atmosphere was very minimalist and clean, with a cute disco ball in the corner. This establishment requires you to order at the bar (makes sense it's a bar), and then they did you a number for the table so they can deliver your food. Any drinks you order they will make it right then and there for you to bring over. In terms of food, here is everything we ordered and my thoughts! *Deviled eggs: You would think since it's deviled eggs, there wouldn't be anything too special about them but I appreciated the small pops of salmon roe that added a nice textural play with the creamy eggs! * Bluefin tostada: Absolutely delicious with fresh tuna, paired with mango, on a crispy wonton chip. What a rich treat. * Arancini: The twist of fusion flavors was great. I love how the Japanese curry added a nice mix of umami, paired with the sharp creamy kimchi sauce. Definitely a favorite! * Pork belly: Pull apart, juicy, and tender! These paired actually really well with the arancini for a good balance of rice and meat. * Red miso crème brûlée: interesting sweet and salty flavor combination between the red miso and Madagascar vanilla. Not too overpowering tho. A lovely meal was had here!

Seating is limited and the place fills up fast, especially on weekends. We arrived right when they opened on a Sunday and were glad we did because within minutes, every table was taken and a waitlist had already started forming. We ordered the deviled eggs, oysters, arancini, bucatini, and steak frites, and every dish was a hit. The food was flavorful and perfect for sharing. Combined with the cozy atmosphere and friendly vibe, it's an easy spot to recommend. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

I had been to good time a few times when it opened but hadn't been for a while due to how small it is. However - after we saw the steak frites on their menu we knew we had to go back. Ambiance- great music, cute spot, friendly servers. You can start drinking and eating while you wait for your table. There is a table limit to accommodate everyone. I think the system works well. Wine- order by the bottle or order a glass of what they're serving. Bartenders are nice and knowledgeable. They will let you try a wine before you commit which is great. Food - ordered at the counter and served at your table. SO good. We had tinned fish, steak tartare, filet o fish, and steak frites. Everything was SO good with the steak frites being the highlight. The portions are well sized. We forgot to order the deviled eggs but that's usually a favorite of mine. Side note: they forgot to bring us silverware for a total of like 1 minute so the owner comped our first round of drinks. Completely unnecessary as the wait wasn't long but so incredibly sweet that it just made the night that much better!

Favorite items: the deviled eggs, bluefin tuna tostada, beef tartare, bucatini. The bucatini has a great chew and the tom yum butter is truly to die for. The beef tartare has the perfect blend of umami and acidity. Really hope Goodtime Bar stays open for a long time, I feel like San Jose is missing a "third space" spot like this that serves amazing food, plays good music, and in general has great vibes. Service is super friendly, you go up to the bar to place your order and they bring out the food to you. There is metered street parking is available in the area, but I think there's also a public parking lot adjacent to Goodtime Bar, directly next to the outdoor seating. They have one bathroom and it's been clean the few times I've used it.

I've had my eye on this spot for a while, but I'm unsure of my feelings on it. Right off the bat, there's only like 3 tables inside but quite a few outside, which makes it a great spot for a warm day but bad for any other weather. You also have to order at the bar, and the food takes a long time to come out. The Arancini was good, very light curry flavor but the kimchi mayo was good. I would pass on the beef tartare, it was just okay. The tom yum bucatini seemed to be really popular on social media, but it was sooo salty. Overall, I'm glad I tried this place and it had a chill and fun vibe, but I would not say this is worth it.

My first thought halfway through dinner: "Why did I put off coming here for so long?" This isn't your average bar. Yes, you order at the bar, but what comes out of that kitchen is restaurant-level food with a casual approach. We went hard on the menu and nothing disappointed: - Oysters - fresh, properly shucked, that mutsu apple and dill situation worked - Arancini - Japanese curry and kimchi mayo shouldn't work this well together - Bluefin tuna tostada - salted mango with sesame dressing was inspired - Beef tartare - anchovy miso and alliums, perfectly balanced - Pork belly - plum, shiso, oyster caramel (yes, oyster caramel and yes, it's genius) - Bucatini - tom yum butter with makrut lime and fried garlic had us fighting for the last bite - Malfalde - Santa Barbara Uni butter and fried garlic, enough said - Risotto - maitake and black truffle butter with pecorino, comfort in a bowl We wanted to lick every plate. Not exaggerating. Service was on point even though they were slammed. Sat outside, servers checked regularly, water stayed full, plates cleared almost too quickly (see note about wanting to lick plates) The vibe: Order at the bar setup keeps it casual, but the food is serious. Feels like the kind of place that transitions from dinner spot to (small) party venue as the night goes on. Price: Most dishes $15-30, worth every dollar Parking: Street parking, typical San Jose hunt for street/metered parking with some parking garages available. Only regret is not being able to eat more of the menu that night. Already planning the next visit.

I've been wanting to try out the Goodtime Bar for a while, so I decided to walk on in at odd hour on Saturday. Expecting to just get a single glass and a snack for a quick tasting. Even at that odd hour, there weren't any seats left inside so I just hanged around the bar counter with a glass standing and they were nice enough to just serve me there. The bar has a large collection of the natural wines and the staff were very knowledgeable and kind, and the whole vibe felt like a good time. I saw the steak frites, and it looked so good, but the plate looked quite huge! But I couldn't resist, and decided to order the whole plate and oh my was it worth it. The steak was juicy, prime rib eye, medium rare on the rare side. So juicy, meaty, soft, but not too soft still retaining tasty texture to bite into. But what really elevated the steak was the yuzu and peppercorn. The spice was there distinctly to augment the steak, yet, it never got in the way of the fabulous taste of the rib eye. Top it all off, the fries were crispy with right touch of the salt. Together a perfect dish. I finished the whole big plate easy in probably less than 20 min. But wait, this is a bar after all. What took the whole experience to the zenith was the wine pairing. I've asked the bar tender what would go well with the steak plate and he recommended me the some red, sparkling natural wine. The wine was unique in that it looked like, but wasn't like a rose. Some how it was light and bubbly yet it retained the deep complex flavor of the red. Swirling, the wine refreshing the flavor of the steak while the steak complementing to the flavor of the wine. This wine, was a perfect match to complete the meal. The whole plate truly worked in unison, kudos to the chef, and the bartender! (In fact, the chef was mozying around the bar and I had to express my gratitude, but he seemed rather, not to the point of annoyed, but indifferent to it lol) I had to get more. I ordered the bluefin tuna and oh my. The tuna was so darn fresh, strong fresh flavor of tuna, with the lime zest and the sauce to give the right kick, all on the tostada crunch. The wine pairing was again immaculate. The whole tostada was gone before I truly knew what had happened. I then saw people ordering the creme brulee. I was pretty stuffed at this point but I had to get it. Red miso, madagascar brulee, what an odd combination I thought. But I do remember the sweet can go so well with salty and this was the testament to it. Brulee was soft, creamy, eggy, sweet, the potent swath of vanilla, but that hint of red miso, empowered the flavor and the scent that each scoop and the bite I took was kept emboldened. This is a definitive must try of Down Town San Jose, no exception allowed.

Great experience! Amazing food! Awesome service! 10/10 recommend :) If you're looking up reviews and deciding if you want to come then take this as a sign - hurry and come here! The staff here were super friendly. Truly appreciated their wine and food recs. I think I just discovered I like white wine and will probably be coming by more often for a few sips :) But omg the food! Every single dish was amazing. Ordered the beef tartare - 1st time having this dish and so glad the bartender recomended it :) The fennel salad was perfect too - loved the pistachio bits and persimmons, great combo! The arancini and gulf shrimp flautas were also tasty. Perfect mini sharing portions and definitely recommend ordering a few dishes bc every thing on the menu sounds delicious! Will be returning to try more :)

I looooved the vibe of Goodtime Bar! Perfect place if you're looking to have a chill night out or need a date spot. We visited on a Friday night and it was SUPER busy. We had a party of 4 and ended up waiting around 10-15 minutes for a larger table inside to open up. There's a decent amount of outdoor seating if you don't mind that, too. We got a few things to share: + Chips & Dip (4/5) ($11): Good staple item for sharing!! We added the smoked trout roe for an additional $8, but I think it probably still would've been just as good without it. + Arancini (5/5) ($14): I thought these were SOOO good. It had the perfect crisp, the risotto was nice and fluffy. I really liked the subtle Japanese curry flavor it had too. + Bucatini (5/5) ($24): Pricy for the portion IMO, we all maybe had 1-2 bites from this haha. This was SUPER unique and I loved the tom yum flavors the sauce had. It kind of reminded me of the mama tom yum instant noodles in a way. + Tuna Tostada (4/5) ($17): My party loved this! I thought this was just okay though. I'd probably pass on it in the future. The flavors that the salsa brought out were super unique! Honorable mentions for the pickle beer here! If you're a lover of pickles, this might be the drink for you. Warning, the taste of dill is very prominent lol. I had a glass of white wine and the server was kind to let me sample what they had to offer. They have TONSSS of wine here so don't be afraid to ask! Overall, I can definitely see myself coming back especially with how unique their menu is! Service was great and food came out promptly; I'd just recommend coming on a weekday if you don't want as long of a wait :)

The food here was interesting, but most of the dishes we had were quite great!! My only complaint was the shrimp was a bit overcooked but other than that I loved the dishes. I really like the tuna tostada thing, the chili oil was so good. We sat outside. The staff were very friendly and our waitress was super nice and got us water when we ran out, and also swapped our dirty plates for us!

What a find. Gourmet American. No! The usual.....No! Different. Yes! I was in the mood for the usual gourmet American. Nothing in the area. ( on foot) struck my fancy. Yelp says try it! I did. ! Wanted a Cabernet or red zin Not available by the glass !!! Wyf! I was initially quite put out. A wine bar!!! But apparently they rotate wines daily and weekly that are by the glass. Grenache. Spicy. Fruity. Low tannin. I thought it was going to be too overpowering for anything I might get served. WRONG! My fennel Cesar was anchovy forward. I'm so glad I had a wine that broke through the flavors and mixed well with my strong plates. I had mussels. The Tangy sauce and side of crustini Mixed so well with the Grenache. What a great explosion of flavors. Instead of ordering something else off the menu, I got a second order in of the mussels. Not cheap. But I left feening like I had treated myself with the best. -------- More. Could it have been classier. ? Mature stuck up servers. ...yes Better searing....yes They could have treated me with kid gloves. Nope! I felt like a friend Of the staff. Casual. Comfortable. Easy!! Energetic young people run it !

I still ended up falling back on a classic Cab as my favorite, but it was cool to try a few different ones, rank them, and then realize our rankings shifted the more we kept sipping lol. We also got the rosemary & prosciutto pizza, which looks pretty unassuming at first but is actually so good. Pro-tip: save the extra crust and use it with your charcuterie. It basically becomes a fluffy cracker for all the extra meats, cheeses, and spreads on your plate. Overall, this is one of those easy, reliable spots that feels a little elevated without trying too hard. Perfect for a relaxed night where you just want to snack, sip, and hang out.

I walked in and stood waiting to be seated while an employee, who appeared to be the owner or manager, continued talking with her kids instead of acknowledging customers. I don't mind waiting, but a simple "We'll be right with you" would have made all the difference. I decided to give them another chance. On a later visit, I spent a few hours working there and ordered drinks. When a friend joined me, he sat down and was completely ignored. No one came over to greet him or ask if he'd like anything. We eventually had to flag someone down just so he could place an order. After that, our server mentioned that Tuesdays were buy one, get one free on wine. I ordered my second glass, but it never arrived. When I asked another server about it, I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing them. The irony is that I would have happily paid full price--I wasn't the one asking for a deal. They were the ones who brought up the promotion, then acted bothered when I politely asked about the wine that was never delivered. The final straw was our most recent visit. We were seated at a table by the staff, only to be told a few minutes later that we had to move because the tables were supposedly reserved for the party sitting behind us. We moved without making an issue of it, but no one ever ended up using those tables for the entire time we were there. It was frustrating to be relocated after being seated, especially when the explanation didn't match what actually happened. At this point, it's hard to view these experiences as isolated incidents. The common theme has been inattentive service and an attitude that makes customers feel like they're an inconvenience rather than guests. There are too many great wine bars that genuinely appreciate their customers for me to spend any more time or money here.

We ordered medium rare but the entire thing was a bit chewy and slightly dry. Could taste the truffle on the Parmesan cheese when alone but not when eaten with the sweet potato. The Persian saffron gheymeh lamb ossobuco (lamb shank with stew and dill basmati rice) was delicious though! Lamb was incredibly tender and savory and the spiced split-pea saffron stew went well with the fluffy rice. We'll probably return to try the recommended cod and tiramisu because overall it was pretty good.

Thank you Ancora Vino, for a great happy hour!

This is such a multi-purpose venue- you walk into a sport bar type of vibe, and you continue to the main room (maybe tasting hall) which is a bit more sophisticated, and then beyond that a smaller room where we had our celebration. Perfectly located steps from the SAP Arena for sharks games too. PRO TIP: Check for SAP events because traffic/parking can be a pain if there is an event.

We were greeted by one of the owners who told us all we needed to know about Coterie Cellars. We were told about the list of wines and their flavors. We tried 3 of their wines and went with Caries Corner's Pinot Noir. We also bought a bottle of another wine we tried to take home. We grabbed a seat inside the establishment after a lovely conversation with the owners and family. We enjoyed our wine and just had to try something from the food truck. I would definitely return. The vibes were chill, the wine was great, and so was the food truck. It was too crowded although there were a few guests but two tables were available when we were ready to be seated. Please Note: Food trucks are there on Fridays and its a new food truck each time. The menu changes every couple of weeks. Tastings are only on the weekends and not on Fridays.
