Went here on a Saturday night with a girlfriend and we ordered: Steak Fries, Bucatini Pasta, Clams, Tomato & Cheese Dip (AMAZING! ) In fact, every single dish was completely on point. The vibe inside is super fun--there's a tiny bar lit up by a spinning disco ball. However, the ordering process is pretty disconnected and chaotic. You normally have to order food and drinks at the bar, but because the entire interior was so packed with people waiting for tables and pre-dinner drinks, the host kindly offered to help us at our table. I came here with a party of 8 for a birthday celebration. There are no reservations, just walk-in / first come first serve basis. The bar was pretty busy with groups at all the tables so we had to sit outside on stools at a fold up table. You walk inside to place an order then you get seated at a table. The staff were really nice and gave great recommendations for our group who were beginner wine drinkers. Super cool vibe inside, they even have a disco ball and cute decor. My expectations were already low as I'm not usually into tapas style (aka small portion but expensive and possibly mediocre food) but boy was I wrong. All of the food that we ordered was genuinely so good. I still think about the BUCATINI (tom yum butter, lime, garlic and basil) and would solely come back for that dish. I am completely obsessed with Goodtime Bar. I can appreciate their unique selection of wine, as they focus on natural wine. Not my personal cup of tea, but they do also offer sake and a few beers also. The first time we went, we ordered the arancini, bucatini, and the heritage pork katsu. I am a big advocate for trying new things every time I go to a restaurant, but it was so good I ordered the same thing the second time I went. Arancini is flavored with Japanese curry with creamy fontina in the center topped off with kimchi mayo. Holy f. These quite literally put the traditional Italian ones to shame (sorry not sorry). Next was the bucatini. It had tom yum butter, lime, basil- all the fix ins of what you want from tom yum flavors with the luxuriousness added from the butter. It was sinful. Last and certainly not least, is the pork katsu. I cannot even remember the last time I ordered a pork katsu, but something told me to order it. Thank God I did, as it quite literally changed my life. If they ever take it off the menu I am not sure I would be OK. It is crispy and is swimming in this koji butter, but the key is that it is NOT greasy. I quite literally think about it all the time. To the point where I had it twice in a week. Ambiance 5 Wine 5 Service 5 Food 5 So why the 4 rating... TBH there's a good chance that I'll adjust it soon, but if I could give a 4.5 I would. First the knock, and to be fair, it's probably just an opinion / idea. Given the birth of natural wine and the South Bay, it would be wonderful to see a curated selection of tasting flights, no more than two or three options with anywhere from 3 to 6 wine wines each, priced accordingly. Maintaining a proper wine menu when all you do is natural wine can certainly be a challenge. If you wine flights depending on what you have would certainly elevate the customer experience by educating more people natural wine and helping them make better choices when it comes to a bottle purchase. I paid $61 for a bottle that was recommended, and at that price point I wonder how many people who are new to natural wine might be turned off. Chris was a wonderful host and certainly the right person to engage with customers around their various wines. Given how small the space is and how busy it can get, a weekly tasting flight menu might be a good way to engage those customers who are waiting to order at the bar and perhaps even spark a more productive conversation with Chris. We ordered the peach and ricotta dish with Thai basil... wow, a wonderful surprise. Peaches are always battling in and out of the top spot on my summer fruit list and this combination was downright dirty and delicious! We also ordered the raw oysters with watermelon mignonette. Another wow! I didn't expect the little spice kick and it was a perfect pairing to the sweetness of the watermelon. If anyone knows the recipe let me know, I'd bottle that mignonette and take it with me wherever I have oysters!! You get your pick between a few tables indoors/outdoors, the bar, and a couch area which I felt really completed the community-forward space. We ordered at the bar and got a number to take to the table. You're able to sample a few things before deciding on which glass to commit to, which is always nice to have. All of the wines (tried whites, rosé and oranges) and food were amazing and really added to the overall experience! This establishment requires you to order at the bar (makes sense it's a bar), and then they did you a number for the table so they can deliver your food. Any drinks you order they will make it right then and there for you to bring over. In terms of food, here is everything we ordered and my thoughts! *Deviled eggs: You would think since it's deviled eggs, there wouldn't be anything too special about them but I appreciated the small pops of salmon roe that added a nice textural play with the creamy eggs! * Bluefin tostada: Absolutely delicious with fresh tuna, paired with mango, on a crispy wonton chip. What a rich treat. * Arancini: The twist of fusion flavors was great. I love how the Japanese curry added a nice mix of umami, paired with the sharp creamy kimchi sauce. Our friend has been trying to get us to come here for a while now and swears by their filet of fish sandwich, but unfortunately they didn't have it available when we came for dinner. Since this place is usually pretty crowded, we were excited to finally try it. The vibe, however, wasn't really for us. The music was extremely loud and honestly kind of obnoxious. They had hardcore EDM playing, and call me old, but that's the last thing I want to hear at a wine bar on a Saturday night after work. The wine suggested to us also wasn't our favorite. It was a Chardonnay that almost tasted more like cognac, which just wasn't for us. For food, we tried the deviled eggs, hamachi tostada, prawns, bucatini, and steak frites. Right off the bat, there's only like 3 tables inside but quite a few outside, which makes it a great spot for a warm day but bad for any other weather. I've been wanting to try out the Goodtime Bar for a while, so I decided to walk on in at odd hour on Saturday. Expecting to just get a single glass and a snack for a quick tasting. Even at that odd hour, there weren't any seats left inside so I just hanged around the bar counter with a glass standing and they were nice enough to just serve me there. The bar has a large collection of the natural wines and the staff were very knowledgeable and kind, and the whole vibe felt like a good time. I saw the steak frites, and it looked so good, but the plate looked quite huge! But I couldn't resist, and decided to order the whole plate and oh my was it worth it. The steak was juicy, prime rib eye, medium rare on the rare side. So juicy, meaty, soft, but not too soft still retaining tasty texture to bite into. But what really elevated the steak was the yuzu and peppercorn. The spice was there distinctly to augment the steak, yet, it never got in the way of the fabulous taste of the rib eye. Top it all off, the fries were crispy with right touch of the salt. Together a perfect dish. I finished the whole big plate easy in probably less than 20 min. But wait, this is a bar after all. What took the whole experience to the zenith was the wine pairing. I've asked the bar tender what would go well with the steak plate and he recommended me the some red, sparkling natural wine. The wine was unique in that it looked like, but wasn't like a rose. Some how it was light and bubbly yet it retained the deep complex flavor of the red. Swirling, the wine refreshing the flavor of the steak while the steak complementing to the flavor of the wine. This wine, was a perfect match to complete the meal. The whole plate truly worked in unison, kudos to the chef, and the bartender! (In fact, the chef was mozying around the bar and I had to express my gratitude, but he seemed rather, not to the point of annoyed, but indifferent to it lol) I had to get more. I ordered the bluefin tuna and oh my. The tuna was so darn fresh, strong fresh flavor of tuna, with the lime zest and the sauce to give the right kick, all on the tostada crunch. The wine pairing was again immaculate. The whole tostada was gone before I truly knew what had happened. I then saw people ordering the creme brulee. I was pretty stuffed at this point but I had to get it. Red miso, madagascar brulee, what an odd combination I thought. But I do remember the sweet can go so well with salty and this was the testament to it. Brulee was soft, creamy, eggy, sweet, the potent swath of vanilla, but that hint of red miso, empowered the flavor and the scent that each scoop and the bite I took was kept emboldened. We had a party of 4 and ended up waiting around 10-15 minutes for a larger table inside to open up. There's a decent amount of outdoor seating if you don't mind that, too. We got a few things to share: + Chips & Dip (4/5) ($11): Good staple item for sharing!! We added the smoked trout roe for an additional $8, but I think it probably still would've been just as good without it. + Arancini (5/5) ($14): I thought these were SOOO good. It had the perfect crisp, the risotto was nice and fluffy. I really liked the subtle Japanese curry flavor it had too. + Bucatini (5/5) ($24): Pricy for the portion IMO, we all maybe had 1-2 bites from this haha. This was our choice for a girls' night out. It started as a relatively casual restaurant, which later turned into a club-like place with a DJ later in the night. I will say, the food is fantastic. Everything we ordered from the oyster starters to the steak was great. I do suggest ordering smaller plates and trying out the various options they have. Service was personable too. Newly opened, I think they are trying to establish their customer-base. To address the rumors, I do want to say that it is Vietnamese-owned (in a lot of the IG posts, I read that it was a Korean-owned restaurant). Not that any of this matters lol but did want to correct that misinformation. Lastly, why the four stars. Just a preference for me, organic/natural wine is not my jam. Goodtime Bar isn't just one of the best wine bars in SJ, it's hands down one of the best restaurants in the Bay Area PERIOD! This popular hotspot is one the best new things to happen to Downtown San Jose in a long time. They have an extensive collection of unusual wines (as well as sake, zero proof drinks, and some beers) by the glass, where you just let the helpful bartenders know your tastes and preferences and they're happy to pour you a taste until you find something you like. We got to try a few drinks that were picked out based on our preferences and then we chose which glass we wanted which created such a fun experience. (They serve food here too!) Wheeeekkk!!! Happy 2 year anniversary to my favorite bar! What a vibe and absolutely pleasure to have this place in downtown San Jose! The staff is amazing (shoutout to TyTy and Angie). The food is tiny but delectable. The tuna tostada was absolutely out of this world, so fresh and delicious. It gets busy so I would arrive early. There is a 90 minute suggested time limit per table that isn't usually enforced. This is natural organic wine, expect a bold unfiltered flavor and be ready to try something new! read more

The only thing this wine bar needs is more room! It's absolutely fantastic and the food is to die for. My favorite thing on the menu was the pork katsu, I'd bathe in that sauce if I could. The flavors on everything are spot on and surprising in the best way. The guy behind the bar was so enthusiastic and friendly, I'm counting the days until I have a reason to be back in San Jose! read more

Big portions, pretty tasty bites! Came on the Friday night got pretty busy. You order at the bar and then seats are first come first serve. They have a few table inside and lots of outdoor seating. And dog friendly! read more

I loveeee this place. The ambiance, the bartenders, the drinks all make such a nice time here. The workers here are soo knowledgeable on wines and I love their sparkling wines and rose here. This place is the perfect place for a hang out with friends or even a date or two because the vibes are just so positive and casual. Highly recommend some tinned fish with your wine! Tho I really wish they included more bread slices because my friend and I split one tin and finished our bread before finishing our fish. read more

We tried to go to Good Time Bar a couple of times, but unfortunately, each time we encountered loooong wait times. Thankfully, on a slower Thursday, we were able to snag a table inside for a party of 4. We each ordered different drinks to try all of them seemed interestingly experimental and quite different from what we were used to (in a fun way). Two drinks that stuck out were the pickle beer and the yuzu spritz. The pickle beer tasted so much like pickles ... duh, but it was a lot better than expected. It was definitely cool to try, but honestly would not order it again. I thought the yuzu spritz was refreshing and the right balance of citrus and it paired nicely with our wide range selection of food. We decided to do family style between our group before we realized how small the portions were. We ordered the pork belly, chips and dip, mussels, bucatini, and bluefin tostada. The pork belly was so flavorful and truly melted in your mouth with each bite. The chips and dip were the best app and were truly a snack you could not stop eating. The mussels were cooked perfectly with a refreshing tomato butter sauce. The bucatini truly captured the tom yum taste; it was the most interesting pasta I've had in a while (in the best way). Lastly, the bluefin tostada was good, nothing special, but still good to try while there. Although all the food we had was quite yummy, I think our group size was larger than what the portions were meant to feed. I don't think I would come back with a large group, as I feel like you would really need to stack the bill for everyone to leave full. I also don't think I would come back for a full dinner service; that was our mistake. We should have looked at the portion sizes more. However, I think this place is perfect for a cute date night or for you to check out with one other person, as the food and drinks were great. The atmosphere inside is also quite inviting, and the small space really ignites a cozy, intimate feeling. read more

I came with a group of 8 and we reserved a table which I would recommend as much in advance as possible. It very vibes inside but there is also outdoor seats. The staff is very knowledgeable about wines and recommendations. We got the steak frites per recommendation which is pretty worth the try. I also tried my friends pickle beer which was surprisingly tasty, it does have a pickle taste is you don't like that I wouldn't recommend but worth trying for sure!! read more
