    Bread and Butter

3.5 Stars.. I was *so* excited to try this place out because of the other reviewers. Don't get me wrong. The place is gorgeous inside and a welcome addition to Downtown SJ. The service was great and so was the nice blend of old skool hip hop music that was playing inside. So why not 5 stars from me? The food just wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Let's get down to it. **Bread & butter $12-- First off, the presentation was excellent. The little mini buns looked like shiny poofy marshmallows. But once I took my first bite, I was so disappointed. The bread itself was on the dry side. The "parmesan rind cultured" butter had zero taste of parmesan in it. **Wings $18 seasoned with house ramen powder, sesame egg yolk jam, chives-- These were probably the best thing on the menu as I've never seen wings filleted into little french fry like strips. They were juicy and unique. However it seemed like they were chopped up so we could get less of a serving. **Rockfish crudo $18--steak soy aguachile, chili oil, serrano, shallots, cilantro, crispy rice $18-- Really nice presentation and the fish was fresh. The sauce was a great accompaniment, but I couldn't help but think about Trifecta's sushi when I ate this. If I had to pick, I'd go to Trifecta. **Burger $28--8oz dry aged chuck, garlic aioli, white cheddar, balsamic red onions 28-- First off, we asked for medium and the burger came on the rare side. We didn't want to complain so we ate it as is. The meat itself was tender and juicy but I just didn't feel like this was better than other burgers I've tried. Fries were also forgettable. I can't knock this place entirely because the service was great.

Crudo (5/5) favorite bite of the night

Vibe: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Food:3/5 Drink: 3.5/5 Value: 3.5/5 The service experience at Strata is top-notch. The staff is very attentive, engaging, and will go out of their way to ensure you're comfortable. Unfortunately, the drinks and food do not match the vibe and price point (yet). I know they just opened up, so I'm sure it'll get better. But for now, I'll have to stick with an honest opinion and share our May experience. We tried several of their drinks and were not impressed, especially for the price point. None were memorable, so that tells you everything you need to know. We did their seasonal tasting menu. Their tuna tostada and pork torta were interesting, in a good way. Their crudo was my favorite of the night; very fresh fish and delightful agiachile. My husband's brodo was lovely, but my chicken fried morrels (which cost an extra $15) were overcooked and dry. I was very disappointed as I love stuffed morrels. The prime NY my hubby got was good. But my chicken roulade was very underseasoned, one-note and on the dry side, once again. I would skip the soft serve, but the chocolate hazelnut desert was fire. I don't think I got my money's worth, but my hubby was happy. I love Chef Roberto's food from Alter Ego and will definitely come back to give them another try.

We came here to celebrate my best friends birthday and to start the ambiance is nice, it does have a lot of moody lighting and their is parking garage behind the restaurant. The drinks we got were good and pretty and probably the best part of the place. But after that the service was very slow, as some dishes took over an hour to come out. We did family style and honestly each plate we got, we could only get one bite from. The plates are very small for the price. The prime ny that was $65 was 4 small pieces of steak and honestly we were expecting a larger piece of meat that we could share for the price that other steakhouses normally have. At the beginning of the dinner they acknowledged we had a birthday, but never did anything or offered anything for birthday at the end. All of us have worked as servers in restaurants before, so we understand proper service and we just did not get what we should have for a higher end restaurant. Probably wont come back but maybe we just had a random not great experience.

We had a birthday dinner here and it was an amazing experience for our party of 5. From the moment we walked in the room, we are warmly greeted by the staff. As we sat down, we were offered a purse stand which was nice so we could place our belongings on it. Here's what we ordered: Apps/Entrees: 1 Strata Flatbread $24 (this was tasty to share, with nice pieces of jamon iberico and cheese) 1 Steak Tartare $23 (filet mignon with their version of chicharron) 1 Wings $18 (these were really small but really crispy and tasty) 2 Burger $28 each (this was ok, comes w/fries) 1 Tortellini (ricotta stuffed in a creamy sauce) very small plate Desserts: 1 Chocolate Hazelnut $15 2 soft serve passionfruit $13 Drinks: 1 Day Tripper $14 4 Tan Lines & Deadlines $18 each (refreshing with cold brew/vodka) 1 BTG Cava canlas & Munne $16 1 Hanami $19 (this is really creamy like a dessert whipped cream drink) The only thing I was surprised is they didnt comp any of the desserts for a birthday or bring anything extra out. But besides that, food was nice to share and the ambiance was great for a nice outing. There's an also a really nice bar you can sit at and enjoy as well.

Ok...DT Man Jose, I see you! DTSJ isn't really known for bougie restos but Strāta is looking to change that. While an ambitious concept, Strāta seemed super promising from the group behind local hotspots: Still OG/Alter Ego Paper Plane, MINIBOSS, and Eos & Nyx. Plus, the chef is an Atelier Crenn and Manresa alum. Open for indoor and outdoor dining. M E N U Chef-driven, Modern Californian cuisine using local, seasonal ingredients. - Indoor dining room: Seasonal 5 Course Prix-Fixe Menu for $75 pp (w/ the supplements, it nearly doubles the cost). Wine pairing: +$40-$45. - Bar/lounge: À la carte menu w/ elevated bar bites and small plates. - Outdoor patio (walk-ins only): Both menus are available. *HH Deals*: Tuesdays - Fridays 4 pm - 6 pm (bar/lounge and patio only) - 50% off select beer, wine, and drinks, burgers and flatbreads. And, $1 oysters! Full bar. They charge a 3% CC fee which is wild for an upscale resto...who carries benjamins around with them (those with a legal job that is)? F O O D * Rockfish Crudo w/ white soy aguachile, chili oil, sliced serrano, shallots, cilantro, crispy rice ($18): https://tinyurl.com/5fz8sbac Gorgeous presentation and a great opener, the crudo was fresh and light yet flavorful with nice textural contrast from the crispy rice. * Steak Tartare w/ filet mignon, aji amarillo aioli, shallot, chive, potato pavé, shiso, radish ($22): https://tinyurl.com/4zez62ch I liked the modern twist on meat and potatoes with two French classics - warm and crispy layered potatoes topped with cold and savory tartare. It was fine but IMO needed more acid to cut through the heaviness. * Crab Lumpia w/ dungeness crab, aji amarillo aioli, fine herbs, pickled shallot ($22): https://tinyurl.com/ydxh6k8a First, can we appreciate the vintage corelle plates that many of us grew up with?! Sadly, this was my least fav dish...all I tasted was the filler shallots. * Octopus w/ salsa macha, chorizo xo, nuts ($26): https://tinyurl.com/3mzt8tbr Super tender with a nice soft, chewy bite (sous-vide?) with a nice meaty flavor from the chorizo. Maybe they were playing it safe but the seafoody umami funk didn't come through in the xo. . * Ricotta Stuffed Tortellini w/ white verjus beurre monte, legumes, spinach, parmesan ($27): https://tinyurl.com/yc32u2pf My fav dish of the night, the housemade pasta had a nice, al-dente bite, swimming in a complex, silky sauce made with butter and juice from unripen grape. It's similar to a beurre blanc but with a distinct tang to keep the dish light and bright. * Burger: 8 oz Dry Aged Chuck w/ garlic confit aioli, white cheddar, brioche ($28): https://tinyurl.com/bde7uvjx With smash burgers trending for the last several years, I like that Strāta kept it OG and classic with a bistro burger....thiccc, juicy beef patty that was perfectly cooked in between a toasted brioche bun. Not listed on the menu, there was an abundance of balsamic (?) caramelized onions that overpowered the beefy flavor of the patty. The accompanying shoestring fries were hot and crunchy. * Soft Serve: Vanilla & Berries w/ brown butter crumble (Menu-$13/Charged-$16): https://tinyurl.com/4ek8zysf Pretty layers and swirl but underwhelming. For the price point, I was expecting an elevated soft serve like Angler's, incredibly rich and velvety...not an icy, bland soft serve. S E R V I C E Our server, Hailey was awesome, friendly and attentive. I know it's a beeyatch to wait on tables outside when all the other diners are indoors so thank you. Food service is hella fast so if you hate sitting through long drawn out tasting menus, you can finish in an hour here. A M B I A N C E Trendy, sleek, and sexy with a comfy lounge area and shaded patio. It's the perfect for date night or GNO. R&B playlist. P A R K I N G We easily found street parking on a Saturday evening (no event at SAP). There's a garage down the block. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Strāta. They've only been open for a month and have potential for 5 stars but not there yet. You can see the skill and technique in their dishes so looking forward to trying their prix-fixe menu on a special occasion in the future.

FLAVOR (3/5): Bread is addicting but I feel a certain type of way for paying for bread when it feels like it should be the start of a meal at a place. But for upscale it was quality bread. The flat bread was decent but not memorable per say. The lumpia might have been my favorite. Everything else wasn't anything to write home about. INSTAGRAM WORTHY (4/5): The space inside is vibey and cute! The presentation for the dishes were simple but cute. SERVICE (5/5): Servers were very attentive, packed our leftovers for us and checked on us constantly! TAKEAWAYS: Portion size here is pretty small even for the price point you're paying. Street parking is probably your best option, right across the street from city hall. Glad we tried it but most likely wouldn't be dying to come back.

We tried out happy hour and I loved it. Hailey was our server both times we were here and we really liked her. Oysters for $1 and dishes that are 50% off the dinner price is amazing. The drinks were good too. We came at 5pm on a Thursday and everything came out really quick.

Went for happy hour. Star of the show was the happy hour burger, and the tiramisu shaved ice. Drinks were decent. Definitely would be back for food over the drink. The restaurant is beautiful. A nice place to have a girls night out.

My favorite part of any place is the people. It's my first time here on a random Wednesday and the entire team was incredibly warm and great company! Thank you Joey, Andres and Georgia for all the laughs and amazing service. And shout out to Curtis who noticed the ice on my oysters was melting and refreshed them. Top tier service, gorgeous moody interior and relaxing ambiance. Will always be back and bring my loved ones!

Came here for happy hour after work and it was such a vibe! The inside is super spacious and has an upscale feel. Our servers were super attentive and food/drinks came out pretty quick. Their HH deals are actually pretty good! $1 oysters and half off select drinks and food. We got the oysters, burger, and tried a bunch of different drinks. I def will be returning for happy hour and want to come back for their dinner menu to try the steak tartare.

    Yummy milk bread!

We tried this excellent new addition to downtown recently. We did the lounge menu as had theatre tickets so no time for the tasting menu. That said, all the food was fabulous so we definitely want to come back to try the tasting menu. The ambiance is upscale and chic. The cocktails deserve a shout out and the wine list is notably expansive. Love this addition to the downtown scene!

Such a cute new restaurant! The ambiance was great and had a really nice vibe. Our server Jose was amazing. He was super friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about both the food and drinks. Everything he recommended was 10/10 The service was excellent throughout our visit. Overall, it was such a great experience, and I would definitely recommend checking this place out! Will be back soon

They also gave us a complimentary caviar cone, which was such a nice surprise and was savory and delicious. We also tried the bruschetta, which was super yummy, along with the octopus, which was flavorful and cooked perfectly. I came back a second time with my best friend and we ordered the New York strip. Unfortunately, that was the one disappointment. The meat was pretty tough and not nearly as tender as I would have expected, especially considering the overall quality of the restaurant. The cocktails, however, are amazing! The ambience is beautiful and the service has been wonderful both times I've visited. Overall, I really enjoyed both experiences and would definitely come back. The only reason I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars instead of 5 is because of the quality of the steak on my second visit.

It was the perfect spot to enjoy the fresh air and made for a really relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant has a great vibe overall, especially if you're looking for an outdoor brunch. (Have not been inside) I ordered the steak chilaquiles, and I'd give them a 8.5/10. The flavors were really good, the sauce was delicious, and I liked the addition of the eggs, avocado, and queso. My only complaint was the steak. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out medium well, a bit dry and was tougher than expected, making it difficult to cut. It was still tasty--just not cooked quite the way I was hoping. The mimosas were good too, a great value. Nothing that really stood out as amazing, but definitely nothing bad about them either--they got the job done. What really elevated the experience was the service. Our server Rebecca was attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and incredibly quick throughout the meal. They checked in at the right times, answered our questions confidently, and made us feel well taken care of without ever being overbearing. Overall, I'd come back, especially to sit on the patio again. With a more tender steak, this meal would've easily been an 8.5 or 9 out of 10!! :)

The vibe inside is super fun--there's a tiny bar lit up by a spinning disco ball. However, the ordering process is pretty disconnected and chaotic. You normally have to order food and drinks at the bar, but because the entire interior was so packed with people waiting for tables and pre-dinner drinks, the host kindly offered to help us at our table. The catch? She could only take our food order and not the drinks. It's definitely a bit disorderly, but the incredible food almost makes up for the logistical mess!

The bar was pretty busy with groups at all the tables so we had to sit outside on stools at a fold up table. You walk inside to place an order then you get seated at a table. The staff were really nice and gave great recommendations for our group who were beginner wine drinkers. Super cool vibe inside, they even have a disco ball and cute decor. My expectations were already low as I'm not usually into tapas style (aka small portion but expensive and possibly mediocre food) but boy was I wrong. All of the food that we ordered was genuinely so good. I still think about the BUCATINI (tom yum butter, lime, garlic and basil) and would solely come back for that dish. The portion sizes were on the smaller side but it is tapas, we had a group of 8 hungry people so that was on our part lol Overall, would recommend and come back to try some of their other dishes and wine! super cute for date night

I had high hopes for this upscale Mediterranean spot in downtown Campbell. Lots of hype, but the…read morefood was average and service was all over the place. I thought some dishes were great; the wagyu burger was decadent. Other dishes were not that special. The scallops didn't taste too fresh (likely frozen) and combining them with hummus didn't quite work. The side of bread was practically insulting. $5 for stale table bread was a surprise. Dishes arrived very late; we were nearly forgotten when we tried to order, and then after ordering, we waited 40 minutes between appetizers and the main course. Not because they were cooking it; they just forgot we were there and when they brought out the dishes, the scallops were no longer just-cooked, and the burger had been sitting for a bit. No apology, just an acknowledgment it was late, and no discount (not even on the stale bread). They offered us wine, we said we didn't drink, and they just moved on. I debated a lot about how to review this. It's my personal experience that was disappointing, and I'm glad some reviews are very upbeat. But there's a handful of reviews noting frustrating delays... and that needs to be worked on.

Janay (lead bartender) took care of us and was inviting and welcoming. You can tell she knows what she's doing in terms of mixology, and offered me a complimentary strawberry shochu (japanese pepper) shot to celebrate my first time in SF! Vibes were great, service was great, and the line wasn't long at all. Will definitely be coming back in the future.

Maybe we went on an off day but my experience was kind of mid…read more We discovered this place from their social media post about $20 prime rib Tuesdays. We quickly learned that it's actually closer to $40 since you need to buy a $14-17 mocktail/cocktail. I'll be honest, I don't drink that much so I can't tell you if that's expensive but it does feel like a bit of a bait and switch. We ordered truffle fries, koji wings, the classic burger and two prime rib dinners. All of the food arrived at different times so some of it was already cold before we started eating. I know we could start eating whatever comes out first but let's be honest. Dining with friends is a very social event and it's somewhat standard for dishes to arrive together. I also ordered subbed truffle fries, was charged the sub, but ended up getting regular fries Food-wise, the koji wings were pretty good. There was a good amount of seasoning and the breading texture was super crispy. The meat itself was a bit bland. Truffle fries were super crunchy and had a balanced truffle flavor. Burger was fine. I've definitely had and made better burgers before. It was a pretty standard burger. Cooked good. A bit overpriced for how mild of a burger it was though. Prime rib was a huge portion. I only had a couple bites from my friends but it seemed well-seasoned. Some parts were nice and tender but the red parts were very chewy. Overall, main dishes were OK in portion but lackluster in experience. Side portions are on the smaller end considering their price but generally delicious. Considering their extensive alcohol collection, I think this place is definitely known for its vibe and drinks rather than its food. Staff seem super friendly though! Especially the bartenders

The cauliflower had a nice crunch, and the batter was well-seasoned and flavorful. Grilled Octopus was excellent as always, my favorite dishes here. Lamb Osso Bucco was served with orzo rice, peas, morels. Lamb was tender and well-seasoned. Tamarind Glazed Salmon served with kale and red quinoa. The salmon itself was good, but I don't think the quinoa was a good match with the dish. The flatbread was the most disliked item we had. It was a bit bland and too doughy. We enjoyed the Peyrassol Rosé (France 2025), which was not only nice to see but also nice to drink. Love the smooth texture and taste. Vanilla Crème Brûlée was enjoyable, the shortbread cookie was somewhat bland. Chocolate Date Cake was rich and quite sweet. Even we shared it among 3-4 people, we still couldn't finish it. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience.

Service was lacking professionalism and timeliness Came to celebrate a birthday dinner and we were immediately disappointed by the service team - couldn't find the reservation (made a month in advance) - sat us without menus - when they did bring menus, they only had 2 for a party of 6... Food was overall good but the server oversold everything. The taste and balance was decent but pricing was 100% unjustified. Review of our table's order - excluding the obvious lack of value and weird plating choices: - mezze dips: skip. rip off. - cauliflower: maybe the best dish of the meal - octopus: sauce was unnecessary and portion size was terrible - caesar salad: not good - lamb shank: tender but the sides were trash - branzino: parts tasted not fully cooked. - lamb chops: DRY. Hammered the protein and drenched in oil...? Do not get. - chicken: large portion and maybe the best bang for buck when feeding large parties. it was ok. No wonder they closed shortly after. I get the high rent given Santana Row pricing but do a little better when hiring service staff.
