For $25, you get a mini Ceviche Classico and a choice of a personal size Paella De Carne or Paella Vegetariana. The ceviche was a white fish marinated with lime juice with sweet potatoes and corn. The fish was not evenly marinated and the top few pieces lack taste. The Paella De Carne was made with pork ribs and chicken. It was not what we expected, as the rice was not crispy and there was a layer of sweet tomatoey/bbq sauce on top. We also ordered a Arroz Chaufa Con Carne. Basically beef fried rice with carrots, red bell peppers, corn, scallions and a fried egg on top. This tasted like Chinese fried rice with the right amount of "wok air". Service was slow for a Friday lunch with about 30% customer occupancy. Our table was not wiped properly and our forks were soiled. In addition, a 5% WELLNESS & SAFETY small business mandate is automatically added to your check. I guess a $60 lunch for two with no drinks, isn't really a great value. Stopped by Suspiro at Santana Row when it was a little quiet, and had a great experience. I ordered the ceviche, beef empanadas, and chicken skewer. Everything was delicious, but the beef empanadas were definitely my favorite, super flavorful and perfectly cooked. The ceviche was refreshing, and the chicken skewer was juicy, but could've been a little more tender. The green bubbles on the chicken were definitely a surprise, but an interesting touch. Suspiro used to be my go to any time of the week. Making a reservation is easy and the ambience is stunning! I've been here many times and the food has been great in the past. Having visited many times, I have noted a lot of discrepancies in their food prep and service. I'm a little disappointed after my visit on Sunday, August 30th. I was celebrating my birthday week and had noted the same on my reservation. We were seated in the patio today on a bright sunny sunday and our server was simply absent minded. They gave me the wrong check number for paying through another app. I called the server and told them that they had forgotten to add 2 drinks, 2 croquettas and a scallop cream dish to our check. I'm glad I caught the error or else I would have made errornious payment on someone else's check! They said they were sorry and that's that. I used to LOVE the ceviche at Suspiro. We ordered the ceviche mixto and it did not look or taste remotely like it has in the past. I understand that recipes change and evolve and that ceviche is originally citrusy and acidic but all we got today was a cloudy recipe of seafood and some sort of yogurt mixed together. We asked the dish to be taken back and the manager came to speak to us. He was very courteous and polite and explained that the owner wanted to change the recipe of ceviche mixto. He explained that only the Mixto recipe was changed and all other ceviches remained the same. We were disappointed. The ceviche was taken off the check. The pollo croquettas were amazing as always and my bloody Mary was nice. My husband's mimosa was okay. We tried a newer dish here today called the scallops in cream and it was just some flavored yogurt and 4 charred scallops with white onions that had no seasoning or flavor. We ate it because we were hungry. However, the dish did not make any sense to us. The squid ink paella was passable this time around. The seafood on it was amazing and had enormous flavor but the rice could use some seasoning. We used the spicy sauce with the paella and it was just spicy and did nothing to the paella flavor wise. The seating was great and the ambience was great but I wish a little more thought was put into service. No birthday was acknowledged. What's the point in selecting 'birthday' while making a reservation when no one would even acknowledge it. I always pull up previous pictures of my memories at Suspiro and they remind me of amazing food right in the heart of Santana Row. Been here once before and loved the whole aesthetic and vibe, as well as the food and drinks. More recently dined here for the "Taste the Row" $25 prix fixe lunch special for a birthday meal. Opted to sit on the patio since it was a nice day out. They brought out some complimentary olives to start and they were so good- not too briny or salty. Menu options were ceviche + paella (vegetarian or meat). We got one of each paellas and shared. The ceviche came with 2 chips so I asked if we were able to have more. Would have been nice if she told us it was $4 beforehand, but didn't notice til we got the bill. Overall the portions were a decent size and we left full. Also ordered a couple cocktails ($18). We have been to Suspiro for about 5 times. We always make reservations because we wanted to be able to choose the front booths that my daughter likes to be seated at. Which, the server who greeted us let us to do (we were parties of 3 and 4 when we went). Up until the last time we went (about 2 weeks ago), the hostess refused to let us at the front booths (even they were available). She said "oh we have smaller booths in the back for the 3 of you). And my goodness the table WAS small. So we didn't order the bottle of wine and paella per usual, because the table was already full with everything else we ordered. One star off here, she should have let us be seated at the front since we had a reservation and they had two booths available when we went for lunch. As far as food goes, I like them better than other Spanish restaurants in the South Bay. My daughter loves beets and the beets salad here has 3 types (purple, pink and golden), which she loves. My favorite is their steamed mussels, they were fresh, decent in size and perfectly cooked. We also enjoyed their Spanish ham plate; I like how they let us customize which meats to be included. My daughter liked their chicken skewers more than the beef; for some reasons the chicken was more tender than the beef. I like ordering the bottle of rose to go with the food... well, only if can enjoy it when we have more table space though. Overall, pleasant experience and we will go back for sure. this spot has incredible ambiance. it was quite busy on a saturday night, so we opted for bar seating to avoid waiting too long. we really enjoyed the selections that were recommended to us by our server. the sauce for the eggplant (and patatas bravas) was so delish, and the ceviche was fresh. i was somewhat confused about the gambas al ajillo having more than just grilled shrimp (like what i've had in spain) but enjoyed it nonetheless. we also wanted to get the paella, but felt that we'd need to come with a bigger group so that'll be something to try next time! and lastly, we went into s.bar (a hidden speakeasy attached to the restaurant) afterwards for cocktails to end the night. :) read more

Beautiful restaurant with beautiful dishes. What we ordered: Ceviche mixto-had the perfect balance of citrus, tang, and freshness. $4 to add on taro chips. Paella negra- ordered the medium size and the portion was massive. I loved that the seafood was mixed throughout the rice, so every bite had a great seafood-to-rice ratio. The only thing I felt was missing was the crispy bottom (socarrat), which our paella didn't seem to have. Still yummy & tasty. Basque cheesecake- just order it. Soooooo good. I thought I'd miss the crust of a traditional cheesecake, but this one was so rich & creamy that we practically inhaled it. The service was just as memorable as the food. Since we were celebrating my husband's birthday, our server surprised us by comping the cheesecake. It was such a thoughtful gesture and definitely not expected, and we appreciated the kindness. Third visit and I think I can finally say I've experienced pretty much everything Suspiro has to offer. This time, after the Mother's Day dinner, my mom and I checked out their speakeasy. But first, the paella is still a must-order. We went with the seafood paella this time and it was just as good as I remembered, fresh ingredients, packed with flavor, and still my favorite paella in the Bay Area. The Patatas Bravas wasn't quite as memorable as my first visit, but still good. As for the speakeasy, it's definitely one of the nicest upscale cocktail spots in San Jose. It's not exactly hidden, just walk past the restroom area and through the curtain, but the atmosphere is beautiful. Dim lighting, elegant decor, great music, and gorgeous bar setup. I ordered the Enchanted for myself and my mom got Midnight in Spain, and both cocktails were well-made and beautifully presented. I always enjoy sitting at the bar and watching the bartenders work their magic. Overall, another great experience. Between the food, cocktails, and atmosphere, Suspiro continues to impress me. Suspiro has become one of our go-to places to take friends for a meal. Service is great and friendly, plenty of seating inside and outside, and the food is delicious. We've ordered a good spread of their menu between the times we've visited, but we always come back to: paella, ceviche, and sangria. There's a variety to choose from for each, so pick whatever speaks to you -- they'll all be tasty. If you're planning to also order a spread of different food like we did, a medium paella was enough for a party of 4 (even though it says that it serves 2). We also tried the empanadas on our most recent visit, and those were also super yummy. When in doubt, ask your server! Ours gave us great recommendations each time. Service started out great. We ordered the mariscos paella right away because it takes awhile to cook. Mariscos is the seafood version. But since we had 30 minutes, we ordered a couple additional tapas and Bloody Mary. One was tortilla de patatas which is like a quiche type egg omelette with potatoes. It came with delicious garlic cream sauce. Without that it was bland. We also had albondigas, which are delicious meatballs on a bed of mashed potatoes. And when the paella came, that was excellent too. Crispy on top but not on the bottom. They use a lot of oil on the bottom and meat broil the top. It was all tasty but pricey. These items were $165 all in. For instance, at &18, it was $5 per meatball. But really good meatballs! By the time we finished, it was quite busy in the restaurant. I'm sorry I just can't get over the service I just had. I went to the speakeasy on a Friday night around 8 which was not too crowded which I loved. Was greeted nicely by the bartenders. But I felt the hate from the waitress as soon as she walked to the table and interacted with me. I asked what her what she recommended, gave her a choice of two drinks, and she sooo rudely said, " ma'am I don't drink where I work". Mm ok. So very unhelpful. Asked her about the Foccacia appetizer and again, another rude response that she's never had it. First time trying the S bar in Suspiro and this is definitely being added to the lineup for sip and yap locations. The vibes were immaculate and the drinks + food were delish! Suspiro is a really cozy spot with great aesthetics and a welcoming atmosphere. The waitstaff wear classy black aprons that add to the vibe, and everyone was genuinely friendly and attentive. The mix ceviche was fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavor. Definitely one of the highlights of the meal. The croquettes were also tasty, although the ham croquette was a little disappointing since it tasted more like the sauce than the ham itself. We ordered the carne paella, and while it was absolutely delicious, the portion was massive for two people. I wish they offered a smaller size because we ended up with way more food than we could finish. It also felt a bit expensive considering the amount of meat included. The octopus in the ceviche was another miss for me. It lacked the bite and texture I was hoping for, and it was chopped so small that it was hard to really taste it or get any mouthfeel from it. One thing I highly recommend is asking for their hot sauce. It's an orange colored sauce that reminded me of the creamy orange salsa you get at some taquerias, and it was seriously good. The cocktails were reasonably priced, and most of the tapas felt fairly priced as well. That said, $15 for four croquettes felt a little steep. I also enjoyed their house made taro chips, though they're an extra $4. My only other complaint is that their digital menu doesn't include pictures. It would make ordering a lot easier, especially for first time visitors. I also wish they had a larger tapas selection since that's what I'd primarily come back for. Overall, Suspiro is a great spot for tapas and cocktails with a fun atmosphere, friendly service, and some standout dishes. We had their signature cocktails and it's the perfect kinda cocktail that pairs well with a rainy ambiance and a sunny day and we look forward to coming back on a sunny day to enjoy outside! We had their tomato bisque perfect for a rainsy night), charcuterie board with jamon iberico and queso manchego (accompanied with fruits and a perfectly paired made-in-house jam) and had the paella de mariscos (the shrimp was my favorite, the hubby preferred the mussels and we both liked the squids texture) To top us off, we had a two glasses of their pinot noir and flan for dessert. Food was very good. We went to suspiro not knowing if we'd have a ton of options given our dietary restrictions and we found that they have a ton of veggie options. We ordered the bombas, empanadas vegetales, the skewers, the papayas and the Spanish omelette and it was all very good. Tucked away by Cinemark and the NetApp office is Suspiro, an aesthetically pleasing, Instagram-worthy Spanish and Peruvian tapas place. I wasn't sure what to expect, but their food was excellent. We ordered the empanadas de vegetales, croquetas de jamon, lomo saltado, papas bravas, squid ink paella, and cocktails: Poncho and an espresso martini. Everything came out super fast, and the empanadas and croquetas were to die for. I would've ordered more of the croquetas had I still had room for it. She recommended we check out their speakeasy in the back after dinner: S Bar. Came here to try out their paella, patatas bravas, ceviche, croquette de jamon among other items. The paella we ordered was Paella de Mariscos. It was alright but not as flavorful as I would expect out a good seafood based paella. Also I asked for a more burnt base but it came out still a little too soggy and without the crusty bottom I was expecting. The patatas bravas has a nice crunch to it but the aioli brava drizzles over the potatoes was incredibly little and sparing that we had to ask them to bring out more sauce on the side. Santana Row has A LOT of new restaurants and we haven't been to any of them. Well, we knocked off 3 (yes, 3!) in one evening: Suspiro, Augustine, and Zazil. First, Suspiro. They have a "secret" bar, but unfortunately, it was closed for a private event. But the restaurant was so pretty and lively, and the hostess was so nice, that we decided to sit at the regular bar. Suspiro is Peruvian, which meant we had to order the Pisco Sour. We also got the Pitahaya, which had gin, dragon fruit, orange juice, egg white, and a Tempronillo red wine float. Since it was 87 degrees, ceviche sounded good, so we got that to snack on. We agreed that the Pisco Sour at Cascal's is still the best, but Suspiro had the most potential out of the 3 restaurants that we tried tonight. I loved the vibe! The restaurant was just so well designed, we really did feel like we were transported to Spain on a hot, sultry night! The service was good and the ceviche was fresh and a surprisingly large portion. This is a nice, modern looking restaurant located in Santana Row directly accross the Jardin. Open space indoor seating with a classy but hip and modern vibe inside.the natural wood design look and accents of earthy greens throughout the rrstaurant really give that chill feel. The food wasn't nothing really special , the queen of the day was the Beef empanadas, better than other places but the price for two $18 and the size are in the smaller side. The tortilla de papas ( Spanish potato omelet) was ok but too dry. Patatas bravas something in the middle with a lot of room to improve. Paella.... ????? Yes question mark. Do can't call what you served paella even seafood rice it's a big name for it. Just calamari cooked with the rice, missing other seafood, like octopus, white fish , clams, and missing the saffron flavor. A lot of sofrito o too much paprika. And top of the rice few grill prawns and steam (frozen) green mussels, no socarrat ( basic for any good paella) and kind of gratin in the top. very different that I know for a dish call paella, so sad and bad. Flavor mmmmm no for me. Server Oswald was very attentive and cordial. He please every request with a smile. The ambience is modern with the bar in the middle off the dining area. Overall, this was a bit of a mixed experience for me - some positives, but also a few things that made it hard to justify the price point (at least based on the lunch menu). First, service was very kind. The heater wasn't working inside while we were there, but they offered to bring me a blanket, which actually helped a lot. Food-wise, it was more mixed. The Ensalada Barcelona was actually quite good - fresh, well-balanced, and probably my favorite thing we ordered. The mocktails were also good, though on the sweeter side. If you like a sweeter drink, you'll probably enjoy them, but I personally would have preferred a little more balance. Unfortunately, the carpaccio de ternera was a miss for me. I rarely leave food unfinished, but I couldn't finish this one. It just tasted bad. The pan con tomate also surprised me - it was essentially a light tomato sauce on toasted bread, which felt a bit underwhelming for the price point. At the end of the day, for the price, I was hoping for a bit more depth. To be fair, I've only tried the lunch menu, so dinner may be a different experience. But based on this visit, it felt overpriced for what we received. Kind service and a couple bright spots, but not somewhere I'm rushing back to. read more

I was at SR with some friends during SB week. Never realized that Suspiro had opened and the place looked so nice! Purely because of the aesthetics, we decided to eat here. Our server was super nice. I didn't get his name, but he was kind and attentive. We got a bunch of different things which were all enjoyable. Take a look at the pictures I've attached.
