My friend and I went there for cocktails and appetizers. We have these really cool cosmopolitans with lights inside of them and I thought it was pretty cool. It was a nice atmosphere and the service was really great. The gal serving was very friendly and very tentative to our needs.
So disappointed in this experience. We should have known this was not going to be a good one by the looks of how empty it was after the marathon and the lack of energy form the people and the place. Finally greeted and asked where we would like i sit. Out on the front patio seemed like the right move. It was NOT! Tables and chairs and too close together. Tables were dirty. That should have been the first sign to leave. Nope we are here maybe this will turn. Well the host comes wiped the table and brings menus, her energy was lacking but whatever. Server comes with only 2plate settings and cups for water, there were 5 of us so he had to come back with the remaining. We ordered chicken lollipops dry with sauce on the side, spicy noods, prawns, shaken filet, egg fried rice, potstickers, tropical ice tea, a custom soda and 2 canned sodas. Asked for a pitcher of lemon water for the table and requested food come out at the same time. Well chicken lollipops with SAUCE and prawns came out first. How frustrating my son didn't want anything to do with them. Kept them cause we don't like sending food back. Ordered A plain cheeseburger so he can eat, just meat and cheese, well that comes with sauce! Ugh had to play mind games with son and tell him it was cheese melted. The potstickers were falling apart, the shaken filet had no flavor just chewy meat, the family liked the rice, noods and prawns. The lemon water never came. I'm just glad we got out of there. I was hoping for a better experience for a $250 bill but I guess I'll go with Yelp Next time! there were warnings but I wanted to give a chance.
Went to Straits for brunch on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised to find it quiet and welcoming. It must've been before the rush hit so we were able to enjoy a quiet brunch with some hearty food. The chicken wings were incredible - albeit a little expensive for what we get - but we thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered the bone marrow entree and it came with cubed filet mignon, lots of bread, and a salad. I thought this was quite good for the value and I had a leftovers for the next day. The Laksa Noodle Soup was also very filling and bright in the flavor.
We had our management dinner here and were one of the first reservations of evening. The server was incredibly patient and polite, which we appreciated. After years of walking by and wondering about the food, I'd say it was just okay. My director and I both ordered the garlic noodles, but neither of us could really taste any garlic. They were heavy on the pepper, decent, but not what we were expecting. Everyone else's dishes looked so-so as well, nothing really stood out. The chicken lollipop appetizers and calamari were good, but it's hard to go wrong with fried food. The Moonlit Lily mocktail was delicious, though, and definitely a highlight. Overall, I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back. By the time our 4 pm reservation wrapped up, the restaurant was already full.
Went for Valentine's Day dinner and had a good time. First time in Santana Row in over a decade and have to admit, it's pretty amazing how crowded it is now in the area. Suggest going early as there are a few big parking garages, but lots of traffic on a Saturday and takes some time to get into the garages, too. As for Straights, we sat outside in the front patio since we had our dog and the staff was very nice and accommodating. We ate somewhat early at 5:45 so plenty of tables and heat lamps were helpful for outside seating in February!! Inside restaurant seemed bustling and lively, with a large fashionable looking bar/lounge area that seems like a good place for a cocktail or two after shopping or to start a nice night out! Enjoyed our meal and attentiveness of our server! The Roti Prata was very good with a nice creamy curry dipping sauce. We liked the Golden Crunchy Salad, too, with refreshing taste with nice crispy crunch from dried noodle topping. We also had the lollipop chicken, lemongrass beef and banana leaf salmon which weren't bad. It's a little pricey but that's to be expected for elevated Singaporean food in this neighborhood!
From what I remembered food is still good and ambiance is still the same but the service is slow and not up to par like it used to sadly.

Poh Pia vegetarian rolls were very good. Got a glass of Caymus, limited options for wine by glass. Mezcal margarita was good.
Pretty interesting restaurant, more of a bar-like ambiance but serves modern Singaporean cuisine. Kaya Toast is not very authentic, missing the actual "kaya" in it, more like butter toast with egg dipping sauce. Laksa is pretty good, soup base has the coconut flavor to it and is pretty rich. Noodles are slightly on the soggy side. Satay is also pretty authentic, has a strong peanut flavor in it, chicken is tender, goes well together. Attentive servers, pretty good place to dine in Santana Row.
Stopped by here for a quick small bite and drinks. Vibes were fun inside. Felt like I was in Miami. We went with the espresso martini and a lychee martini. The espresso martini used the local Vietnamese iced coffee brand for their base. Sweet and tasty. Lychee martini was really strong so it got the buzz going. For food, we got the Kaya toast. Didn't expect it to be green, but it still tasted really good!

The experience was absolutely terrible, we ordered 3 smash burgers and 3 kimchi Bloody Marys and continued to sit for an entire 40 minutes before checking in with our server. "The drinks are being made and coming out!" Cool, it is busy due to the end of the San Jose half marathon so it's understandable. I kid you not, another 40 minutes passes and the waiter finally drops by to apologize and say "the order wasn't processed and I have to re-fire the order. It'll take another 20 minutes for the food to come out oooorrrrr..." OR WHAT?! OR WHAT?! WE CAN JUST LEAVE?! You gotta be kidding me at least act like you want us there. We have been here for an hour and a half with NOTHING so I was a bit snippy but please understand that we just ran in the 8k and it's been an hour and a half for NOTHING!! We stay which was definitely the wrong move but in for a penny in for a pound ya know? Our drinks come out 10 minutes later and those Bloody Marys were WAY too spicy, like a level below Korean buldak noodle spicy, it's like it had the wrath of our server and were absolutely undrinkable. There's no way the drinks are supposed to be that spicy for the general public with no warning on the spice level (if intentional). The burgers were ok and we were just gunna leave it at that, but when I saw the receipt I knew I had to write a review. Yall please look at the attached picture. The math ain't mathing because in what world is 15% of a 64$ bill 0.60???? We were so done with this place at this point and just wanted to leave. Definitely won't be going back to straits and people should not brush off their 3 star rating like we did. Straits need to stop being so cheap and hire more staff to get everything in order. 1 server should not have to deal with 20+ tables solo.
Happy Hour daily 3-6pm, with quite a lot of menu items selection. The half shell oysters were the smallest I ever had, it's as small as the clam. We had the roti prata, it was ok except the curry dip was a small portion, not enough for dipping two roti. We also had the Straits Rum Sunset, it's not our favorite, the rum, pineapple and orange juice were not a great match.
5/5! I'm always on the look out for a good happy hour and this one is great! I love the lounge open seating for casual evenings. The staff is energetic and kind, I loved being here. They had a great happy hour. It was 3-7pm almost everyday. I got a picture of the happy hour. They had cocktails for $10- they were delicious and strong. I asked the bartender to make the strawberry drink a little less sweet and he took his time to taste the sweetener to make sure he knew how much to put in my drink! I love the attention to detail. The happy hour menu also had a great food menu. Tons to choose from. We got the lollipop chicken drumsticks, the fried rice, and the poke nachos. The poke nachos were unique, I wish there were more tuna on them, but it's expected for a happy hour item.
Meeting up with friends for a quick bite and drinks. The weather has been so nice in the evening, we wanted an outside table. The host seated right away, no wait, even with a pretty packed house! Our waiter came out as soon as we were seated, took our orders and came back with our drinks right away! He came back to check on us frequently. You can see that everyone worked well together, like a well oiled machine, to get you in and out! I will definitely return.

We had a team dinner at Straits in Santana Row with a group of about 15 people. The space is lively and works well for larger gatherings, which made it a convenient choice for a team event. That said, the food didn't quite deliver. I ordered the spicy basil chicken curry with coconut rice -- it was decent, but nothing particularly memorable or worth going out of your way for. The calamari leaned heavily on batter, overwhelming the actual seafood, and the Brussels sprouts were overly dressed to the point where the flavors felt unbalanced. Overall, it's a solid spot for group logistics and atmosphere, but from a food standpoint, it felt average. Not bad, just not something I'd prioritize for a return visit. read more
came here because i was looking for a place to eat n watch the world cup at the same time vibes were great, but food was unfortunately mid. i think the issue was that it was all really really salty especially the chicken curry. the garlic noodles w beef had a good flavorful but they overcooked the noodles so that they were breaking apart. shaking filet mignon also had good flavorful but was also overcooked so it tasted dry. read more
The garlic noodles were easily the highlight of the meal while nearly every other aspect of the experience ranged from mediocre to disappointing. We were fortunate enough to grab a table during the World Cup match since the lounge seating was first come first served. Oddly, we weren't provided menus and had to request them ourselves at the front. Our server took quite some time to initially check on us, though she was consistent with water refills afterward. Food timing was extremely inconsistent, with dishes arriving at completely different points throughout the match. The fries came out around halftime while the final noodle dish didn't arrive until nearly the end. *Clarified Milk Punch: tasted nothing like its listed ingredients of Thai tea, tamarind, spices, and whiskey. There was no noticeable fragrance, warmth, or spice profile, and I genuinely couldn't detect any alcohol. *Straits Smashburger: came with two promising patties and white American cheese. However, instead of the advertised pickled shiitake mushrooms, we received an entire raw mushroom cap. The fries lacked both garlic flavoring and toppings. Their purchasable Sambal fancy sauce also lacked complexity and tasted more like a thicker ketchup. *Crispy Cauliflower: unfortunately undercooked and unpleasant. The portion was meager and the light coating had not fried properly, leaving behind a grainy texture. The lime aioli was creamy and bright, though it couldn't salvage the raw crunch. *Straits Frites: a very small portion for $15, but admittedly quite tasty. The fries were crispy outside and fluffy within. Each piece had visible minced garlic and the intense garlic flavor worked wonderfully. The lime aioli paired well here too. *Pad Thai: far from authentic but still passable. The noodles had a nice chew and were evenly coated, though the toppings felt sparse compared to the generous amount of noodles. The sauce leaned overly sweet without enough savory depth or acidity. *Garlic Noodles: their signature dish for good reason. The noodles were thoroughly coated in a rich garlicky, peppery sauce and easily carried the strongest seasoning of the night. The shiitake mushrooms were juicy and slightly sweet. There wasn't much bok choy, but what was there absorbed the sauce beautifully. *Spicy Street Noodles: also labeled as Mee Goreng. These had a pleasantly pungent aroma that I personally enjoyed, though it may be overwhelming for some. The house sambal tomato sauce almost carried a fish sauce quality. The noodles were slightly overcooked but coated well. This dish leaned quite salty and desperately needed more lime for balance. This was ultimately a 1.5 star experience rounded downward because most of my party had such a poor time. Throughout dinner, wrong dishes repeatedly arrived at our table and we were interrupted three separate times by food intended for other guests. While I enjoyed the garlic noodles, I especially felt bad for my vegetarian companion who ended up disappointed by the poorly executed cauliflower. By the time the final dish arrived, half of us had already finished eating. We always have a great experience when we come to Straits. It's definitely on the pricier side but that's what you come to expect given the location. We don't typically get a full entree but chose different appetizers and plates to share. Not often I go out to eat and the salad is the best dish but their Fuji apple salad is top notch. Can't miss with the roti prata or samosas. The cauliflower and lollipop chicken weren't as good but still solid. Also had a non alcoholic drink (Bali breeze) that was really good. Solid restaurant. Pretty good service. Great spot to chill. read more

We hosted a private corporate event at Straits, and it turned out fantastic. We worked closely with the manager, Lily, to organize everything, and she was incredibly responsive, organized, and professional throughout the entire process. What really stood out was how proactive she was. At many local restaurants, customers often have to initiate and follow up repeatedly, but Lily consistently checked in with us and took the lead without being asked. She made the entire planning experience so much easier for my team and me. We hosted a Lunar New Year event, and the venue was perfect. The decorations were beautiful, the service was excellent all night, and our attendees had great things to say about the food and drinks. Everything came together seamlessly. I would absolutely consider hosting another event at this venue and would love to work with Lily again. read more
Hosted a birthday dinner here for a friend. It was a weeknight, so the environment was much quieter than it would be on a weekend. We shared a variety of dishes, including Chicken Lollipops, Sweet Corn Fritter, Wok Wide Rice Noodles, Hai-Nan Chicken rice, and Bali's Spare ribs. The food was reasonably good, especially the lollipops and the wide noodles. The ribs were nice, but maybe not quite as good as we've had before - not as tender and less flavor. Service was a bit spotty, considering that we came on a night when it wasn't so busy. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the meal and we would come back. read more

Great location on Santana row, it can get noisy outside. It has the vibe of a club with a set of food options. The menu is an eclectic mix of Asian and American food. We got some beers, street noodles with shrimp, Basil chicken and corn fritters. All the food was okay, though the noodles and the basil chicken had a decent spice kick which I was happy about. The corn fritters were a bit on the greasy side. The service was average. Given the number of options in this area, I'll likely try another place next time! read more
Our last experience here was really bad but Straits invited us back to give them another try. This experience on Thursday night was 1000x better. I really applaud this restaurant for taking the time to try to make things right for the customer. We had reservations for 8:30pm here but it wasn't that busy. The host took us in right away and was really nice. Our server, Tuan, came immediately to our table and was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. He went over his recommendations and put in our orders quickly. We ordered the chicken skewers, roti (my favorite), and the wings for appetizers. All were really great and came out quick. I love the peanut butter sauce that goes with the skewers and the curry sauce for the roti. For entrees, we ordered the traditional fried rice (delicious and very cheap for the amount you get), bone marrow, and eggplant. The food here is wonderful and I love how they have such a wide variety of items on the menu. They came around so many times to pre-buss and refill our waters as well. Straits is like a club vibe restaurant that I think feels more like a club atmosphere the later in the night you go. The women who work here are all beautiful, giving the club vibe. I came with three coworkers of mine, about 7 minutes before happy hour ended. We told the hostess we wanted happy hour so she sat us in the happy hour area. When we went to order, the waitress told us we had to sit in the happy hour area and moved us again to another table/area. As I was looking at a happy hour menu and about to order to the waiter, a lady came and took the menu out of my hands. She then went across the table to remove the menu from my friend's hands and thankfully they said something (unlike me bc I'm scared of confrontation in any form). The waitress who was taking the menus said this was not the area for happy hour and happy hour was over. It was 5:58 and happy hour ends at 6 so technically we still had time to put an order in. We told them how we already moved tables for happy hour and thankfully our waiter Luis saved the day as he was willing to accommodate our happy hour order. If it wasn't for him, we would have not gotten it bc the lady was dead set on making us move again and telling us happy hour was over. As a business you can either happily invite people to come in and quickly get a last happy hour bite or rudely make it difficult for people to squeeze in a happy hour order and I feel like Straits did the later. It was an unwelcoming vibe and the waitresses didn't seem to know where happy hour was taking place. Is the food good? Yes. The corn fritters and chicken lollipops are always my go tos. The fries are good w the dips and the garlic noodles were good. Happy hour vodka drink was decent too just a bit sweet. Overall, I don't know how to feel about this place. Luis saved the day so I'm thankful they have some caring employees, but I'm scared to go now and not have him bc it would've been a completely different experience. read more
Came here on a Friday afternoon with coworkers and it was a blast. The Lychee martini is legit and just order the carafe! My other suggestion is come for happy hour where many items are half off. It's worth it to save some cash and enjoy the company you're with while enjoying the food and drinks. The outdoor vibe is sweet on a warmer day as it can get a little stuffy inside. Their servers are sweet and they warm up to you if you treat them well and make conversation. Every time I've gone for happy hour it's been a great experience. Been here twice. Once for lunch and the most recent time for late night happy hour. Happy hour is definitely worth it as food and drinks are offered at decent prices, otherwise I wouldn't be dying to come here just for the food. Fun vibe but a little confusing on whether it's more of a nightclub feel or trying to be an upscale dining. read more

Came here during happy hour to celebrate a big milestone--our teen landing their first full-time job! We wanted something festive and flavorful, and Straits delivered on both. We kicked things off with happy hour drinks (the Straits Rum Sunset was my pick--highly recommend) and ordered a fun mix of shareable appetizers. The chicken lollipops and wings came out hot and crispy, the roti prata with curry hit that buttery, savory note, and we ended up ordering a second round of roti later because we couldn't get enough. Everything came out with enough breathing room to actually enjoy it. Annie, our server, was warm and on it. From keeping drinks topped up (without needing to ask!) to making the whole process smooth--from order to check--she was exactly the kind of person you want when you're out celebrating. Even the small touches--like offering a box for leftovers before we asked--made the whole evening feel easy and relaxed. Would definitely come back for a group dinner again. This restaurant has nice outdoor dining. The food we ordered was delicious. The service was fine except we wished they left a carafe of water on our table. The glass of water was small so we all ran out of water and we didn't see the waiter for a while. If they were low in staff they should leave a carafe of water on table for us to fill ourselves. I have been to Straits many times - for corporate dinners and milestone bday celebrations and have always enjoyed the food and vibe. Today was not one of those days. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong from a service perspective: - I ordered Basil Gin & Tonic - I got a regular G&T - when I asked where my berries and orange and Basil and rosemary were - instead of apologizing for the wrong order, he said they ran out of those ingredients! And then the manager showed up magically, with the exact drink I had ordered - we ordered our food with the manager - then 30 mins passed- 45 mins / the main server asked if we wanted to order and we said your manager has already taken our order - he didn't bother checking - 1.5 hrs later we asked him and he said they had not put the order in at all! - finally the order came - my friend asked for a glass of wine - which never came but did show up on the bill - glad we checked the bill and asked them to remove it - we went to use the restroom and the bathroom flushes weren't working The manager did come over and apologize and took off the charges for the food that showed up 1.5 hrs late. Straits is like a little bit of Vegas on Santana Row. A fun, vibrant lounge where you can have the nightlife experience even during the day. I can't remember what drew us to this place on our first visit several years ago, but remembering what a fun time we had, we decided to make a return visit this past weekend after an appointment in the area. It's dark inside like a typical lounge, but the side facing Santana Row is wide open, which is great for people-watching. They have a pretty extensive happy hour menu 3-6pm. From the HH menu we ordered a dozen oysters, chicken satay sticks, and the garlic noodles. The chicken satay was probably the best part. I'm not much of a meat eater, but this chicken was super tender and paired very nicely with the flavorful peanut sauce. Good drinks also, with a wide selection of spirits, cocktails, mocktails, wine, and beer, something to quench everyone's thirst. The service was somewhat inconsistent, and we kept getting different servers throughout our visit, but all the servers were friendly when they did come around. As you would expect with a nightclub-like scene, music was upbeat, no downer pop here, thank you. Reminds me of our time in Serbia where literally every restaurant/cafe/bar plays upbeat music, day or night; music sets the entire mood, and it's really difficult to be down while listening to upbeat unce-unce music. More places need to take a page out of this handbook. If you're in the Santana Row area, do check this spot out, it's fun. Next time we're in San Jose, we will be back. read more
Had dinner at Straits for dinner on a Saturday night around 10pm. In my opinion, it was a bit dark but I know that's the vibe as they were playing music and people were dancing. The food was good! Hip, happening place with amazing dishes. The night we went the service was slow because the restaurant was packed. Loved dining with 4 of us because we were able to try multiple dishes Drinks, appetizers, and entrees were all delicious! We would love to come back and try more items on the menu. read more

Had the best Lychee Martini ever during the happy hour. The atmosphere is so sophisticated, and the service was prompt, the waitress frequently stopped by our table and made sure we got all that we wanted ordered before the happy hour service ended. It was a quick pit stop but well worth it! read more
