Solid 3 stars. This place seems to believe one employee can simultaneously bartend, take food orders, clean tables, and start a dramatic fire. The drinks were expensive, but that's hardly shocking. It's Santana Row, where apparently every cocktail comes with a small surcharge for the privilege of being seen holding it. The seating situation was particularly frustrating. There were plenty of open seats, yet somehow one person managed to occupy an entire table meant for our party of six while staff looked on as if this was an unsolvable diplomatic crisis. We spent more time watching empty chairs than enjoying our drinks. Not terrible, not great. Just an exercise in patience with a side of overpriced cocktails. read more

Cielo at Hotel Valencia in Santana Row had a winter-wonderland-style setup that was definitely cute, but overall the experience felt underwhelming. When compared to the APRÈS VILLAGE experience at the Four Seasons, it doesn't come close. The food menu is very limited, and food took quite a while to come out. There's also no option to make reservations, which was disappointing and made the experience feel less organized. That said, it's aesthetically pleasing enough for a few social media photos. Beyond that, it's nothing to make a big fuss over, and I can't say I'd go out of my way to return. read more

Cielo is open seasonally, and we finally visited during (*at the very end of*) their Winter Experience. I think traditionally, you need reservations for Cielo, but their Winter Experience (ran through December and mid-January) is first-come, first-served. The Winter Experience is a Christmas-themed set-up - very tastefully and beautifully decorated - with Christmas music (even 2 weeks after the New Year). the tables along the edge have small in-table fire pits AND a tall heated furnace - you will not be cold in December. these tables do require a minimum spend of $50 per person, which we came into this expecting that regardless - however, it sounds like you can sit at any of the other tables without this minimum spend, though you will only have a blanket for warmth. the sunset was beautiful, though keep in mind that we do live in a city, and there are other tall buildings around, so don't set your expectations too high. Overall, we are so happy we finally checked this place out, and that we were able to do so during the Winter Experience. We did find it overpriced (considering it's at Hotel Valencia... we weren't surprised) for what you get. I tried one cocktail (~$20) that tasted like a flavored soda, before switching to wine; my husband had 2 Old Fashioned, they were both made differently but both good. The food was good - small, shareable portions. We're happy to have finally stopped in, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come again. There is an outdoor bar with ample lounge-seating for a small group or for date night. Portable heaters are situated around the patio to provide warmth on cool evenings. My second time here, and tbh, I'm rounding up because of the view. Service is really horrible We came and sat at the table without anyone coming by for almost 10 minutes. There were two other tables with customers. Eventually one of the guys who worked there said there were no hostesses and we had to order from the bar. Ummm, okay but there were literally THREE guys who worked there, sitting at the bar yapping with each other and looking at their phones, plus a bartender. So four workers and not one of you can take a drink order??? Drinks are okay, overpriced of course, but no way am I returning. If youre looking for a more private bar which could host big parties, Cielo just might be the perfect spot for that. The only reason im giving it a three star review is because had been an altercation with a group of very drunk customers that were yelling at each other and mentioning the substance "coke" which on of them must have taken, because they were saying "oh he must have had a bad batch" Finally once the people involved with this situation had parted, my bestie and I wanted to relax in the spot that they had previously occupied. Not sure where the staff was at this point, but there were a bunch of glasses of cocktails and beers that we cleaned up because the staff was no where to be found However, Bar tenders were very nice and attentive and quick making my friend and I two cocktails at what had seemed to be the speed of light. Cielo is a quiet & relaxing spot to come to with a group of friends if you want to talk-- unlike the rest of the bars where you have to scream at the top of your lungs to be heard. If you order appetizers from the menu, keep in mind they take a while to grab your food-- so order right away! The guacamole & chips we ordered took 20 minutes to come out. Many of these reviews should go in the V bar which is on the third floor. This place is only opened seasonally and there is NO happy hour. Call in advance before even coming here as this place gets booked out. Finding this place is a trek. You have first an elevator to the third floor, and then another one down the hall to the seventh. This seems more like an open space for hotel guests than for visitors. View was not impressive whatsoever. The fans on the top of the other buildings are roaring as you to try to enjoy the view. There is also no waitress serving you up here. You order at the bar and the menu looked very lacking. We just came to snap a couple of shots and left for dinner at Santana Row. This place got to be the worst, low -class establishment I've ever been to. My friend and I heard about a rooftop bar, only to find a darkly lit bar that looked nothing like the pictures. Confused, we asked about it to the people there at the bar. One guy was super friendly, so we stayed to see how the vibe would be. No less than maybe 10 minutes later, my friend and I got called a completely vulgar term. Basically to our face. I called them out on it, but they proceeded to try and gaslight me. So I'm an Asian girl, and most of the patrons were white. I'm sensing something here. Who knows. But what I do know is, I don't go to establishments to be personally insulted. So we left. Came here for a work place dinner party. We were a huge party, around 60 plus people in our group and this place could easily accommodate everyone for a sit down dinner. Felt like I was there for a wedding event. Located in the heart on Santana row so it's a walk from the parking areas around Santana Row. Wine was perfect, food was great and the view was phenomenal. It was a hot day and as the sun went down the sky turned red and the wine tasted even better. Can't really rate the place on pricing as it was a paid dinner. I ordered the chicken entree and it was yummmmm!!! Perfectly plated and well served. "Wine and Cheese Exploration" $20 per person, reservations required. The lounge is located at Cielo on the 7th floor of Valencia Hotel. I never knew that this wine bar was here in Santana Row - definitely a hidden secret with a great view. TIP - Arrive early to get lounge seats, otherwise you'll end up standing around all night. What you get for $20 - unlimited California wine tasting, variety of cheeses, crackers, some live music. Even though the tastings were unlimited, the pours were a bit tiny imo. This means conversations last about two minutes before you have to head back for another taste of wine. The variety of cheeses included smoked mozzarella, cheddar, pepper jack, and I think about two other ones I had forgotten. We also purchased some happy hour appetizers, which were about $5 each plate. -Tuna Tartare - pretty good, would have liked some more Nori Chips. -Chicken Quesadilla - nothing too special, typical. -Truffle-white bean hummus with pita bread - honestly did not taste any of the truffle oil, plus the texture is not what I'm used to for hummus. What a great rooftop for the sunset on a summer day. Breeze and view were perfect. There wasn't a huge crowd so no fighting for the delicious cocktails from the bartender who never left me waiting. I'm not sure if there is a happy hour on the rooftop but I know there is a really good one downstairs at the Vbar (also located inside Hotel Valencia). I was here for the view...I needed a stiff drink and stunning backdrop to get through my report for work and this place made me feel like I was working in heaven. I like the music & fire pits. I liked the relaxed atmosphere and almost thought I was In Europe by the end of my cocktail. That's an aesthetic for you! Came here this past Friday night and I was honestly so disappointed just because of how much this place lacks good service. I don't know if it's because we're young or what but the service here sucks for a place this nice. For starters, Cielo certainly lacks employees and the two employees who were present (bartender and bus boy?) weren't even friendly for what you'd expect at Santana Row. The place was also kind of busy so you would expect on a weekend night for there to be at least a few more employees working. When we walked in we were kind of confused at first because there was no one around working. We quickly got that this place is more of a "kick back and relax environment" place so we grabbed ourselves some menus and a seat picked food from the menu and waited a good 10 minutes looking around to see if there were any employees. We then figured we'd just order at the bar. When we went up to order the bartender was alright, definitely not the friendliest. We ordered the BLTA sandwich, 3 sliders, a cheese bladder and a bottle of white wine. The food came in within a reasonable time except the bartender forgot to put in our cheese order, so we ended up getting that last. Thankfully the food was really good including the cheese platter! After the bartender forgetting to put in our cheese platter order and having to wait extra for us to get it till about 20ish minutes before they closed, one of the employees had the nerve to come up to us when we were CLEARLY still eating to let us know that they were closing soon. 5 mins before they closed we were still hanging around and I could see the bartender and another employee eyeing us from the bar. Pretty rude and annoying considering we were the ones who had to wait extra for some damn cheese. The goods: Food and view The terrible: SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE Cielo has the potential to be such a great spot to relax, have some food and good wine but as of right now they have to make some major changes before I give them anything more than a 2 star review. read more

Hotel Valencia is in the heart of Santana Row. Cielo is the "roof bar" that isn't easy to find, but when you arrive, you will be disappointed. It is a long patio with awful music blaring to create atmosphere. There isn't waitstaff so you wait at the bar. The sterile environment isn't suited for fun or relaxation. There are tables and outdoor furniture that is first come, first serve. People crowd around and yell over the music. Was looking for a venue to throw a party for my parents' anniversary. Had been to one of the season opening parties at Cielo and thought it was pretty nice, so I emailed the Sales team. Once I received a quote, I told her It was a little above the budget we'd come to after speaking to a few other venues and asked a couple follow up questions. I never heard from her again, which I took as "We don't have time for poor people." This intimiate rooftop bar is AMAZING. I got the pleasure of enjoying this 7th floor bar with a private party for a business social so I didn't have to deal with waiting to get a drink. The staff was really polite and willing to do whatever it takes to get you what you want. The view is AWESOME in the nice city of San Jose and there are heat lamps and nice lounge couches/seats. This place seems ideal for a nice night out with a small group of friends. Definitely a great hidden spot away from the hustle of the rest of the area. Although it has limited hours it's perfect for getting a drink, a snack and watching the sunset. Hung out for a couple of hours, enjoying what's left of the warm weather of the year when Adam Sandler ambles in. He and his band were in town for the Bridge School show (which I was seeing the next day) and was just kicking it at the bar smoking cigars with his friends. 5 stars for the rooftop bar and amazing view of San Jose and the Row!!! 3/4 stars for how expensive the drinks are and the limited beer selection (just on the rooftop bar). But I don't know of any other rooftop bar in the South Bay that is this nice so I will definitely be coming back! Perfect place to hang out on a sunny day for sure. read more

All in all....enjoyable! I spent the time after work and before my dinner reservations here just watching the sunset...listening to the live music below... There was not a HUGE selection of wines...and until the remodel is done, they no longer have beer on tap...but the bartender girl was nice and I just generally have no complaints. I really love a place where I can sit and not be bothered...where the music isnt loud and bumping...where I can just get a good buzz on and enjoy a decent conversation. Came here in the late afternoon/early evening over the summer for a few drinks. They had some drink special at the time so we just ordered a few of those. It was still early so we were the only ones there which was nice since we had the whole roof to ourselves. The view isn't too spectacular since there are neighboring buildings in the way but it's a good change of scenery from the restaurants along Santana Row. There's a good amount of tables and seating areas so it would be a good place for a smaller group. It's not the most accessible place since you have to go up to the hotel and then walk through it to take the elevator up, but it's cozy up there and good for lounging. read more
