One of the best high-rise views in the Bay Area. I always bring out-of-town visitors here, so they can get a sense of the Silicon Valley geography. Service is not great. It usually takes some effort to get a drink. I often just go when I am not that thirsty. It's always colder than I expect, so bring jackets. read more

I wont give away all my secrets about Cielo, but I will say this; What a view! Spring and Summer is divine to grab a cocktail and sit out in the sun on the lounge chairs provided. During the summer when Santana row offers Jazz Tuesdays, Cielo is my great escape away from the madness I like to call the crowd. Did I mention you can watch the sunset? Extra bonus points!!!! Everyone says the view at this bar is amazing, which it is, but most of their seating is too low that the banister blocks your view. Service is slow cause they only have 1 bartender and 1 bar back who doubles as a waiter....on a Friday evening....during Happy Hour... Food is pretty mediocre, but then again it is hotel food. Drinks were average priced. Their "secret" tiki bar menu was okay. The bartender was nice enough to comp my fiance's extra shot in his drink since it was his birthday. We only came here cause we were staying at Hotel Valencia and wanted to check out the view. Unless we're staying at the hotel, I don't imagine us going out of our way to come back. read more

This lesser known attraction to Hotel Valencia is a great place to have a long island iced tea (there is a bar up there) in the open air and with a great view of the valley. Or if you prefer, spit on the people below. I'm just saying, if you don't care for the fresh air and... nevermind. Some people don't appreciate the outdoors ya know? After arriving on the 3rd floor of the hotel where V-Bar is, you have to go to walk to the other side of the floor past the hotel desk to take another elevator to the 7th floor. The only bad side is that when I went on a weekend at night (I think it was 9pm), the staff kicked everyone out because that is quiet time for the hotel residents to sleep. Why would you sleep when you're in Santana Row?!? I don't know. The same type of rules apply for V-bar where you get directed to the bar area only. read more

We went here yesterday for the Art, Wine, Music, and Cheese event. It was $20/person, with unlimited wine pours from 5:30pm-8:00pm. The event was great. Hubby wanted to say "yay, I'm a fan". Most of the time, these type of events are crowded, and it's difficult to get to the wine lines, or people are tackling down the food servers before they even come out of the kitchen. However, they sold just the right amount of tickets, where it wasn't packed, but it was still full. There was room to walk around, sit, lounge, drink, etc. Yesterday was pretty hot, so there wasn't enough shade up there, but we found a spot at the bar that was fully shaded until about 7pm. (the bartender was kind of a douchbag). Also, I'm not sure where they found the musicians, but it sounded like a trainwreck. :( It was as if they were playing 2 completely different songs at exactly the same time. Not that great. The art display was beautiful, giving us an instant conversation starter as soon as we walked in. The cheese/crackers were plentiful, but they ran out of crackers for about an hour, and did not put out more until we were already leaving. Servers walked around with trays of appetizers such as curry samosas (not good), brie in phyllo dough (yummy!), and deep fried sushi (yummy!), so you don't have to really get up from your seat to fight for food. :) All in all, a very relaxing way to unwind after work. Enough snacks to kind of fill you up, but if you're a meat eater, you'll still want to grab something to eat after. :) I would recommend this event to my friends, but I kind of want to keep the secret to myself. Very worth the $20. :) -2 stars for running out of crackers for over an hour and for running out of wine by 7pm. read more

I mean, I guess. It's a hotel bar, standard lounge-like feel with a bunch of leather cube stools and couches. The drinks are average, and I actually had to have the bartender (who seemed rather uninterested in his job) remake my Cosmo which was clearly a Cran-and-vodka on the first pass. The crowd, at least on a Thursday night, was very Silicon Valley after hours - if that's your thing. On a warm night, I imagine it's a fun place with the outdoor set-up and view over Santana Row. Nice little escape on top of the hustle and bustle of the shopping maddness. Love the ambiance and the drinks and food offered are not bad either. The only thing I would complain about is the view of the A/C units on the neighboring buildings, but I just look the other way to fix that issue! Love this place! read more

Cielo is the best kept secret in San Jose. Had my 40th Birthday celebration here (60+ people), and it was absolutely amazing. Great food, great service, and most of all, a stellar view. MICHAEL is the best bartendar there, by the way. He makes the best mojito I have ever had in my life, plus he is very attentive to his customers. read more

I don't think a lot of people know about this place. It's all the way on the 7th floor but once you get up there it feels like another place. Far different from the metal ball curtains of Vbar. Fresh air. Fire pit. Comfortable sofa chairs. Yummy bar. The view is nice too. It's of the plaza including the kiddie playground in front of Wahoo's and Maggiano's. This is more relaxing and intimate, especially if you aren't looking to meet tons of people compared to Vbar or Straits. They don't have food so .. you know what that means! Came here twice. Once with a friend from out of town and then with a few friends. Both times were very enjoyable. There was never too many people you couldn't find a couch or lounge to sit in. The view is absolutely wonderful, just don't look too far one way or you'll see the parking garage. It's gorgeous to watch the sunset kick back and relax with your beverage of choice. Beautiful view and a great place to sit and talk over a glass of wine. They have heating lamps and plenty of seating. They don't open until late afternoon (forgot what time...maybe 6pm) and they're not open late. I came here before heading out to dinner. We ordered 2 glasses of wine each and a fruit/cheese plate. Food service was sooooo slowww! We finished our 1st glasses and started on our second glass before the fruit/cheese plate even came. We weren't complaining because there was only one person working and she didn't have much time to check on our order. Great place if you're looking to get away from the crowd. There is no music so you can sip your wine and enjoy the great view quietly. read more

I love Cielo. It's not ridiculously busy like some of the other bars on Santana, but what really gets me is the view. Based on a seminar held in one of the conference rooms at Hotel Valencia; this seminar included lunch. The peite beef steak with fingerling potato, sauce (i think blue cheese-ish); was good. Steak was all prepared the same, it was medium-well. It was good, 1/2 dry (top) otherwise juicy (bottom). The also had a mixed salad with feta. The warm chibata bread was good. Love this place and recommend it on a Sunny / Warm day! Only Rooftop Bar on Santana Row with amazing Views of the Bay ... maybe even in all San Jose, I would recommend to go. Classy place, friendly staff located at the top of Hotel Valencia. You have to go up to the 3rd floor of the hotel and then walk through it to take the elevator up to 7th floor, but it's cozy up there and good for lounging. Great for groups or dates. There are lots of available seating/lounge areas, you can make reservation for big parties too. They have a full bar and snacks to order as well. I totally recommend this place. Super romantic at night - they turn on the firepit, just bring a blanket to stay warm and cozy. A cool spot for watching 4th of July Fireworks! read more

Went here for the view and because I have a slight obsession with rooftop bars and places in general. Scored a table up against the balcony to do some serious people watching over cocktails. Drinks were on the pricier side although what I would expect for a hotel bar. The only issue I have is that the crowd was probably 20 years older than my 20-something age group. Buncha old creepers trying to creep so we only stayed for two drinks and decided to move on to a place with a younger crowd but that's Santana-wannabe-rich-Row for ya! At the top of the Hotel Valencia, Cielo is open from 5:30-9pm, weather permitting. Getting up there can be tricky, especially if you've already had a few. Go into the double doors across from the valet, take the elevator up to the hotel lobby, then walk past the front desk to another elevator and go to the top. When you walk out the door to the bar, you instantly feel relaxed like you've just arrived at a cool beach house. It has a completely different vibe than V Bar (which feels like a dungeon). There's a fair amount of seating as well as fire pits and heaters for chilly evenings. This place has tons of sun and a nice view, which are hard to come by in San Jose. It was after 6pm and it was still 100 degrees out so we didn't last long up there but I can't wait to go back! read more

It's really nice to sit up at the rooftop bar overlooking parts of San Jose. The best part is seeing multiple fireworks in the sky from all of the neighboring cities. Today was an exceptionally nice day watching the sunset and relaxing with a glass of wine. They have a decent appetizer menu and wine list with a view you can't beat for Santana Row. Too bad they close at 9:30 at night. It would've been nice if they stayed open a little later. read more

A bit of a hidden gem, in my opinion. I came here with a group of girlfriends on Thursday night, and I was pleasantly surprised to find this delightful lounge on the top floor of Hotel Valencia. I've lived on the Row for about 1.5 years now and I didn't know about this place until now! Now that I've found it, I'll be coming back more often - it's got a great rooftop view, decent appetizers, a relaxed lounge-y atmosphere, and it wasn't too busy for a Thursday night. read more

This spot is a highlight on Santana Row for me, I love the view, although I do admit the fans on the building directly across are obnoxious. Can't something be done about this? Still the amount of green trees and the landmarks to take note of make a striking experience. We had my daughter's meet and greet here with her boyfriend, now husband and enjoyed the snacks, wine and ambience. Admittedly the service is not over the top though I always take the time to show this venue to friends, you cannot help but appreciate the beauty of our valley! read more

I recently celebrated my 25th birthday at Cielo. William Barba, Director of Food & Beverage, is the epitome of customer excellence. He was able to accommodate us on such short notice and open Cielo for me and my guests. We had a wonderful time! of course it's expensive, you're paying for a view of the mountains, drinks in a 5(?) star hotel, ON Santana Row. i, however, didn't feel like i got all that i paid for. so i guess if you start out at the bar and move to a patio seat, you're S-O-L for a server. so aside from having to get up every time to get our own drinks, we had to imagine what the mountain view would really look like if it wasn't hidden by smoke. i can't blame the hotel for that though. and i suppose it would be unfair to blame the hotel for the shortage on parking in santana row on a friday evening. but i do wonder, if we would have done valet, would we still have had to go to the bartender for every drink? +1 star for fabulous chicken quesadillas and those little turkey sandwiches. read more

I attended a wine and cheese tasting at Cielo and was quite impressed. The presentation was wonderful and the choices for both the wine and cheese tasting were excellent. They also put out some other appetizers as well. There was a quiet band playing and of course the view was nice. The bartender, Christine, was outstanding. Very quick and friendly. Was here for happy hour (of course there isn't really a HH at any Santana Row establishment) for a friend's b-day. Atmosphere was nice, bartenders were cool and they can make a mean dirrrrty martini. They provide a nut mixture for you while sipping on your choice of alcholic beverage. Crowd? There wasn't one which is nice I think but for those on the prowl, that may be a negative. Would go back again to have an intimate gathering. read more
