The drinks funner it was a Friday night, around 8 - it wasn't too crowded but there was an amazing DJ playing a mix of oldies, millennial vibes and newer tracks - made it super fun! We sat outside by the fire pits. We tried so many drinks but the waiter suggested Paradise Lounge was the best one I tried. We did try the Phoenix Rising... hard pass on that one - something tasted rank to me. They were kind enough to remake it, and after the second version it still tasted weird. It could use a little cleaning and maybe a refresh on the smell, but that might just be part of the aesthetic with the dim lighting and little luau feel. My friends and I came here after work on friday to enjoy happy hour. They had really good deals from open - 7pm! We decided to sit outside and enjoy the sunlight/ fresh air. So funny I've been to the bar next-door a handful of times and always wondered what this restaurant was! Lol my friend told me about this place and I had to come check out the specialty Halloween drinks!! They are so incredibly strong you can only have two per person! We had our double date night here last Sunday, and it was fun! I loved how they decorated for Halloween with the clowns decor. I was scared when I first walked into the place because of the clown animatronic, but quickly laughed afterwards. We sat in a booth, which was cute. Definitely a cool spot to visit for the holidays! I first heard about Dr. Funk on a viral TikTok last year around Christmas time. I finally got around to visiting for their Halloween set up this past weekend. When we arrived it was nice to see the front of the Dr.Funk bar is covered in full colorful bright lights. Love it! It definitely stands out in a sea of dark restaurants + bars at night. lol. When we walked in we were greeted by the Killer Clowns! Yikes super creepy! But definitely cool Halloween vibes. lol. Their Halloween theme is the Killer Klowns from Outer space (apparently it's a movie from like the 80s or something but still spooky!) lol. The Halloween decorations are spooky Halloween clown vibes so it features life size scary clowns, giant popcorns, spider webs, circus stripes, and bright lights all over. Pretty cool. We wanted to check out the options on the Killer Klowns Halloween menu. We ordered the Cotton Candy Cocoon from the Halloween menu and the drink that goes on fire (I forget what it's called) as well as the Lychee Luau. The Cotton Candy Cocoon was interesting, but not very sweet at all tbh. lol. The only sweetness in the drink is the cotton candy on top. lol. I walked into Dr. Funk during Christmas and was instantly impressed, the decor was beautiful and the space felt festive and fun. It seemed like the perfect place to start our Thursday night. Unfortunately, the night didn't turn out the way I expected. My friends and I ordered specialty drinks, but mine was so unpleasant that I had to send it back while the bartender held onto my card. As I waited for a remake, he mentioned feeling bad about the delay and told me to come back later. Near the end of the night, I returned to the bar, but he was on break. After using the restroom, I walked out to find him waiting outside, asking for my number. Both of my friends told him no and mentioned my boyfriend was outside, yet he asked again anyway. The next morning, I checked my receipt and was shocked to see an $80 tip added to a $50 tab. It felt retaliatory and completely unacceptable. When I called the bar around 3PM, the manager was initially dismissive and insisted that things like that can happen. Only after I mentioned the bartender repeatedly asking for my number did her tone shift. As a woman, I expected more empathy and professionalism especially when the final question I was asked was, "So how much would you like to tip him?" I am a huge sucker for tiki bars and Dr. Funk did not disappoint. I've been here a few times previously and I just love it every time. The drinks are typical for tiki bar drinks in this area, so be prepared to pay for a little bit more for some delicious, beautiful drinks. The fries and finger foods are delicious too! This time around, we shared the Puka Punch amongst 3 people, which was great. I love the little fire art show. I also love that they decorate up the shop during Halloween and Christmas time. One thing I'll note is that in the years since, it feels like they've gotten really short-staffed. This really is a problem for management and the owners, not the workers themselves. Review of Nightmare Before Christmas bar during Christmas time: My husband had an entire drink spilt on his lap and we weren't offered an apology. My husband and I came for date night, we wanted to grab a themed cocktail before walking around Christmas in the Park. Really unclear seating. The bar was full and when we asked to sit at one of the many open tables we were told to check with the host, which we didn't initially see. We got seated and ordered our drink, the worms wort and deadly night shade. Both drinks were honestly not very good and did not taste as described. When initially being brought our drinks the runner placed them on the table and pushed it towards my husband causing the entire cup to fall in his lap. The runner simply gave an oops and walked over to the bar to grab rags. My husband had to ask her for one to wipe himself up. We asked to move to another open table since there was a big puddle of alcohol on the floor and the table and chair was sticky. She said she didnt know and she would have to ask. She went back to the bar and came back a few minutes later to tell us we could move. Mind you my husband is still wet and standing next to his seat. We moved and he was brought a new drink, I asked the server for napkins because he was still wet and she said "didn't he already get one?" ??? Odd response. Anyway we were offered no apology and never got checked on. Date night was cut short. And my husband's Christmas sweater got stained. Overall really bad experience. We were seated and loved the interior theme as they had it all decorated for Valentines Day which was about two weeks ago. They had an entire designated menu that was Valentines themed that they were running for the entire month. I know they often do specific drink menus and decorate for different themes such as Christmas and St Patty's, so it was nice experiencing it. Overall, the drinks were decent. Unfortunately forgot what we ordered but it was good overall, no complaints. Their food menu looked good although we didn't get a chance to try it so will have to be back! My friend ordered a glass of red wine that smelled and tasted truly AWFUL (and we're not even picky wine snobs). We all tried it and agreed it was probably the WORST glass of wine any of us had ever had. We're not the type to complain, but this was bad enough that we politely asked if he could try something else. The server was visibly ANNOYED and told us, "we're not a wine bar, so..." before RELUCTANTLY agreeing to bring out another option. We waited a super long time, long enough that my friend almost gave up and forced himself to sip the original wine just to pass time. Eventually, she came back with a small taster of another wine (which was only slightly better). TBH, it could've been the same as the first one. We honestly thought she was testing us 'cause she seemed PETTY enough to do something like that. When my friend asked if he could get a full glass of that new one instead, she gave him major ATTITUDE, pointing out that he had already drank half of the first one. At that point, he just gave up and said he'd stick with the BAD wine and she left ABRUPTLY without saying anything more. The whole interaction felt unnecessarily MEAN. We were polite the entire time and hoping for a small change to improve our experience, but we were met with straight-up HOSTILITY. That one server completely RUINED it for the entire establishment. I know one bad apple shouldn't RUIN the image of a whole place, but when you're spending good money and trying to enjoy time with friends, the service really matters. We WILL NOT be returning. Tiki Time! Service: upon arrival the staff is very friendly and helpful. Every server is wearing Hawaiian style clothing, easy to spot staff. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor they have a tented area with fire pits and a few heat lamps. It's well lit with outdoor lighting. The seating in the tent is lounge outdoor couch seats. On the side seating its tables with fire pits to each tables back. This is where we sat and cold due to a breezy night. There is outdoor tiki style music, but very hard to hear and we were right next to the speaker. Indoor it was very cute with heart decorations throughout the bar. Nice table spots and private booth seating. The bar had seating as well. Unfortunately everything was reserved. So make a reservation early. I am interested in going back but sitting inside. Im super behind on this one but I couldn't forget about this amazing Tiki Bar! We came around Halloween on a whim and I was super impressed with the decor. Everything was Beetlejuice themed! If you've seen the movies then I'm sure you'd recognize at least one reference. My favorite were the pinstripe sandworms. The drinks hers are always tasty. This particular day I ordered the You're Dead which taste like if I drunk myself to a stupor. Very boozy but that's definitely what I wanted at the time. My go to at this place is the Phoenix Rising. If you are a Mezcal lover, this will be your new favorite drink. It comes over to your table just like its name sake. On fire. But I think it's perfect because of how smoky the Mezcal in the drink. But of course it wouldn't be a tiki drink if it didn't also have the coconut and pineapple flavors in it. On the finish you'll get a little bit off the Aperol which will give it a little bitterness and complexity to the cocktail. A little funk if you will. One of the things I love the most about Dr. Funk is that they have really good food. Not all Tiki Bars serve food, which is dangerous when you think how strong the drinks usually are. Maybe if I had some food in my stomach, I'd feel more comfortable about ordering an extra drink ya know? Which also means more money for the establishment. Everyone wins! But anyways. We ordered the Chicken Wings and the Curry Fries. Highly recommend both. The Chicken Wings had good flavor while being very crispy. I would recommend going to a dedicated restaurant rather than dining here. The drinks here though are what earned this place my 4 star rating. They have a huge menu that is true to a traditional tiki bar and they have some house special drinks that are unique. Their menu has markings for how strong a drink is which comes in handy. All the drinks we got were great and felt worth the price. The service here is amazing! Our server was super friendly, checked in with us often, and gave drink recommendations. When the music was way too loud and was hurting all of our ears and preventing us from having a convo they were more than happy to turn the volume down in the area we were sitting.
