Had a really great experience at Selva. The atmosphere was fun, the drinks were great, and we had an awesome time at the bar. Savren was our bartender and she was fantastic. Super friendly, easy to talk to, and really attentive throughout the night. She gave us some great drink recommendations and just made the whole experience more enjoyable without trying too hard. Definitely one of those places where the service makes you want to come back. We had a great night and will absolutely be back to see Savren! read more

Walked in on a Friday evening with no reservation. They were all booked up but we were seated on a cancellation within minutes. Everyone was kind and accommodating. The service and drinks were top notch and the drinks were reasonably priced for the area & beautiful atmosphere. There are stars on the ceiling!! Wonderful place go stop for a cocktail. Tip- go before 8pm if you do not have a reservation. We noticed it got busier as the night went on. read more

Went here on a Friday evening for cocktails. We went around 9 pm and it was not too busy, we were able to get a seat on the upper level. It got quite busy later in the night and there was a line to enter. The decor dazzles as soon as you enter, there are trees on the floor and dazzling starry lights on the ceiling. Great place to click pictures! We tried the Oaxaca old fashioned, el diablo and Mai tai. Drinks were average, definitely not the best in the area. The Mai tai came with a smoking cinnamon stick, which was a nice touch. Overall this place has a great vibe and decor, not the best drinks. read more

As part of the bachelorette trip for my friend, we stopped by Selva after dinner. This place is trendy, but small. It is popping on a Saturday night and there is a live DJ. I believe it was DJ Nelly. He was playing all the hits and the vibes are immaculate. There were two tables celebrating birthdays and two brides that night. I thought it would be nice if the DJ gives my friend a shoutout since she's wearing a bride veil and all. He didn't, and that's ok. But it would have been really cool. Personally I wish it was more inclusive. Only Latinas were getting a shout out, but clearly there are others in this space dancing together. Just a thought. read more

The worst customer service ever! Had bottle service with some friends and told them that they refuse to let me in with no communication with my friends .. just focused on getting little girls in! I stood outside for 10-15 min. Offered the light skin dude money and like a light skin dude he said duddde I'm not letting you in And I already gave my friends money for the bottle, my called him a "f" boy.. and I laughed and dipped.. They not gonna last in SJ! Not with the people that spend bread just maybe the lil youngsters! They not welcome in SJ. I don fudge with them.. peace read more

Solid little place to grab a drink with normal prices. Bartender was super friendly. Really what I enjoyed about this place was the jungle theming. They definitely went all out to where there's even a little waterfall type thing with a bridge to walk over. There's also a small little upstairs area with seating that is nice. Only downside is I wish they offered something small to snack on. read more

Got attracted by the interior photos and came to check out this place with friends. Love the bar and starry ceiling so great ambience from that perspective. They have a DJ at night, but the music is too loud to have conversations. Wouldn't recommend as a spot to hang and have solid conversation with friends. With respect to the drink offering, their menu is quite limited and nothing in particular stood out. Would come for the vibes but maybe elsewhere for better drink options. read more

My friends planned a surprise for my birthday here, but unfortunately it turned into a huge disappointment. We had a reservation and arrived on time. We were seated, ordered our cocktails, and before we had even finished our drinks, a staff member came over and told us we needed to move to another table. I honestly couldn't even understand what she was saying. When I asked why, she couldn't explain it herself and went to get the manager. The manager came over, put both of his hands on our table, looked at us, and said, "Yeah, what's the problem?" in a surprisingly confrontational tone. I hadn't even complained yet--I was just trying to understand what was happening. So I replied, "Actually, what's your problem?" He clearly wasn't expecting that response because his attitude immediately changed, and he started explaining that the table had another reservation. Fine. It wasn't ideal, but we thought maybe someone had specifically requested that table, so we moved without making a scene. Then, just a couple of minutes later, the same manager came back and told us we'd have to leave that table in about 45 minutes as well because it was also reserved. At that point I asked, "I also made a reservation. Why are you treating us like this? Are you trying to get us to leave?" That's when he finally admitted the real reason: those tables were being kept for customers ordering bottle service. What I don't understand is: * How did you already decide we weren't going to order bottle service? * If those tables are reserved for bottle service, why aren't reservations managed accordingly from the beginning? Honestly, it felt like the moment they saw we had only ordered cocktails, they wanted to replace us with higher-paying customers. The funny part is that we had arrived early on purpose. We planned to stay, enjoy the night, and order bottle service later once the place got busier. The saddest part is that my friends had put so much effort into planning this birthday surprise, and the whole mood was ruined. We ended up leaving instead of celebrating. Ironically, after we left, they texted us to apologize and even offered us a discount if we came back. If you know your service was bad enough to require an apology and a discount, maybe that's a sign something is wrong with the way you treat your guests. If you don't want a special occasion ruined, I'd recommend celebrating somewhere else. read more

Ive been to this place a few times now and each time im blown away by the details and atmosphere. Its beautiful inside! The drinks are delicious. The bartenders are very friendly and welcoming. Initially came on a Thursday night and it gave such a relaxed vibe while still maintaining a lively atmosphere. Came on a Friday night and it felt like a night club. read more

Super cute spot inside (as you can probably tell from the pictures). It was a little loud, but that's not really out of the ordinary for a bar. We went on an early Thursday night and it was actually pretty quiet/not crowded, which I appreciated. Made it easy to hang out and chat without feeling rushed. The cocktail menu is fairly basic, but the drinks themselves were good, so no real complaints there. Nothing super inventive, but solid. Note that they are only open a couple days out of the week. read more

This place just opened and my company rented it out for a party. Service was attentive and wonderful. They were so accommodating and welcoming, going above and beyond for patrons and attendees. I love the decor and vibe. It feels cozy yet spacious. The stars, plants, and water fountain aren't overly kitschy, but just seem fun. Would be a great place for date night or girls' night out. The bar is stacked and they can make anything, even if it's not on the menu! Cannot recommend Selva enough! read more

It's the best vibes here and I love this place. If you want an intimate and not too loud experience with dark and sexy lighting inside, this is your place. I came on a Saturday and whatever dj that brought the late 90s/2000s vibes, keep him in rotation! The bar is beautiful and I love all the different bottles of tequila. This is perfect spot for date night if you don't want to go out dancing but want to have conversation with good music or just hanging out with friends and catching up. The hostess is very nice and always smiling. All staff here are very nice and seem happy to work there. I wish they had Bailey's because I love creamy carajillos with just a small touch of Baileys but their caraillo is decent and hits the spot. I also came here for the grand opening and they had a very simple drink menu so I would love to see new or seasonal cocktails, and craft cocktails added here in the future, but I know, baby steps as this place is brand new. Selva has a lot of potential, I love how people dress up here and want to look good and I love the photo booth. read more

The world out there on Almaden Avenue is a meat grinder. Concrete, exhaust, people with deadlines and clean shoes pushing each other into early graves. You walk around Downtown San Jose long enough and the asphalt starts to look like a permanent solution. Then you find Selva. It's dark inside, the kind of dark that hides the lines on your face and the mistakes in your head. They've built a damn jungle in there, green leaves and shadows, a truce with the city outside. I didn't want a scene; I wanted a drink. The bartender looked like she'd seen a few things herself. She didn't give me a lecture; she gave me tequila. Neat. None of that sugar-water other places serve to the tourists. It hit the throat like an honest word--hot, sharp, and true. If you aren't drinking agave neat here, you're missing the point of having a mouth. If you must have a cocktail they have those dialed in, just to keep your feet on the ground. Early on, the place has a quiet tranquility. It's a lounge for survivors. You can sit under the fake canopy, look at the water, and feel like you've escaped the whole damn century. Later, the lights drop lower, the bass starts to rattle your ribs, and the DJs turn it into a different kind of animal. But if you catch it right, when the room is still breathing easy, it's one of the few spots in this valley where a man can find an honest glass and a corner to forget his name or roll in with a crew and really send it. Five stars. Or whatever the hell matters to the people who count these things. Selva does it right. read more

The decor and ambiance in here is incredible. It looks just like the photos and it's super moody lighting, lots of cool design features. We haven't tried the food yet but their margaritas are great! Selva just opened in Downtown San Jose last weekend and it's a full-on immersive tequila bar experience. Think lush jungle vibes, handcrafted cocktails, and a space designed for both chill lounge energy and late-night turn up. The venue is HUGE with two floors. Downstairs is more standing, dancing, DJ vibes. Upstairs is a little more intimate with seating -- and don't skip the free photobooth (yes, it's actually free). Perfect for date night, girls' night, or your next birthday pregame spot. I had a good experience here and plan to return in the near future! read more

The service here is good and the workers were friendly. The interior was nice, beautiful and spacious. There is some street parking and a parking structure nearby. I liked how I was still able to hear my friends even though music was playing. They did not sell food here and only sold drinks. The drinks were decently priced and didn't taste too strong. My favorite drink was the El Diablo because you can taste the alcohol less in that one. Definitely a chill spot, that I would come back to again. read more

I really enjoyed myself at Selva. Great variety of drinks including NA. The nights I've been there, there's been a DJ playing the vibes I enjoy most with a live musician. Great mix. I made a reservation to celebrate my friend's birthday, hoping to give her a special and memorable night. Unfortunately, the way we were treated completely ruined the celebration. Even though we had a confirmed reservation, we were asked to move tables more than once. The manager's attitude was unnecessarily rude and confrontational, and it became obvious that customers ordering bottle service were being prioritized over us. What made this even more upsetting was that we had planned to stay longer and continue ordering throughout the night. My friends and I had put a lot of effort into planning this birthday surprise, but instead of feeling welcomed, we felt disrespected and pushed aside. We ended up leaving without being able to properly celebrate. I would not recommend this place for a birthday or any special occasion. read more

I was going to give this place another try this weekend with some friends and bf, until this message came though. By the name of James I believe they are the owner or worker for Selva. They messaged me apologizing for my first impression experience and wanted me to give them a chance by texting to someone so he can host me and whoever I bring. So I decided to look through the persons profile and not only did he left one review a month ago but they also left another one about 35 mins ago! The photo they uploaded has nobody but the workers in there. So this must be the owner. If you are wanting to gain crowds, maintain a good rating. Do not go in and start making random reviews just to boost your ratings and maintaining it at a 4.0 or higher, also do not make your employees make reviews just to maintain a high star ratings. If you wanted to make it right. You should've messaged me alone and maybe things would've been different. I am very disappointed because I was going to give this establishment another chance. But I will not go here anymore at all, I'll let everyone know about my experience along with how the owner and workers are interested in high ratings this bringing new customers. read more

This place is located a couple of blocks away from other bars/restaurants and was not crowded when we came by on a Thursday night. They're a new spot that's still in their soft opening phase, so seems like not many people know about them yet. Upon entering, there is a little bridge and waterfall, along with some foliage and little twinkling lights on the ceiling to give you the impression that you're in the jungle under the stars. Their shelf of liquor looked beautiful and impressive. The lighting is kept very dim and the music is not too loud, which makes it an ideal place for a date or catching up with friends. The prices of their cocktails seem very reasonable as most were $13 or $15. Although, their menu is very limited. Also, no food menu. My group got the Margarita, Carajillo, Cosmopolita, and El Diablo. I liked my friends' drinks, but was not a fan of mine (Carajillo). Overall, it's a cute spot and welcoming addition to DTSJ. read more

Selva - Full Tequila Bar - Lounges Near Me - San Jose, California

I came back here a few weekends ago with a few friends. There was a security guard who was being really sweet about the wait, and he was saying he was going to do his best to see if we can get in. There was, however another person there, not sure if he's the manager, but he definitely gave the presence that he was in charge, and the security guy said he really couldn't do anything unless this guy approved it. The manager guy was very rude and immature. I had asked politely if it was possible to get in, since there were several people leaving. He just had such a bad attitude, it felt like talking to a teenager. It seems like the role this man has for his job might be overwhelming for him, there should definitely be someone else at the front door. His attitude and demeanor definitely doesn't bring a good welcoming environment to this business. It's unfortunate because it's such a cute place and my first experience there was great! Maybe get this guy some support or have a better system. From my experience staff is what makes a place great! read more

This place is gorgeous! We stopped by last Friday night and it's even better than Instagram. It's a little bit smaller than I had envisioned. We were able to stand by the service well at the bar and grab drinks. But boy was I surprised when I asked for a tequila list and they only had a bottle service list. It sounds like it may be coming, but it's pretty hard to properly order a sipping tequila without one. I also noticed the tequila brands aren't the usual ones, but I was mostly impressed with the more off brand versions. read more
