Really cool bar with a great ambiance! The drinks are good, although on the pricier side. -1 star because there was a very strong, strange smell.

This place just opened and my company rented it out for a party. Service was attentive and wonderful. They were so accommodating and welcoming, going above and beyond for patrons and attendees. I love the decor and vibe. It feels cozy yet spacious. The stars, plants, and water fountain aren't overly kitschy, but just seem fun. Would be a great place for date night or girls' night out. The bar is stacked and they can make anything, even if it's not on the menu! Cannot recommend Selva enough!

If you're in downtown San Jose and looking for a spot that blends elevated vibes with a fun, high-energy atmosphere, Selva Tequila Bar is the move. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance hits -- the design is absolutely stunning. The ceiling gives off a starry night sky effect that instantly sets the mood, paired with a modern, jungle-inspired aesthetic that feels both luxurious and immersive. It's the kind of place you can dress up for but still feel completely comfortable letting loose. The tequila selection is seriously impressive, whether you're into smooth sipping tequila or creative, well-balanced cocktails. The bartenders clearly know what they're doing -- every drink feels intentional and elevated. Music and energy are always on point, making it perfect for a night out with friends, a date, or celebrating something special. It transitions effortlessly from a chill lounge to a lively nightlife scene without ever feeling chaotic. Service is attentive without being overbearing, and the entire experience feels polished from start to finish. If you're trying to upgrade your usual night out in downtown San Jose, Selva is definitely a spot you'll keep coming back to.

Selva just opened in Downtown San Jose last weekend and it's a full-on immersive tequila bar experience. Think lush jungle vibes, handcrafted cocktails, and a space designed for both chill lounge energy and late-night turn up. The venue is HUGE with two floors. Downstairs is more standing, dancing, DJ vibes. Upstairs is a little more intimate with seating -- and don't skip the free photobooth (yes, it's actually free). Perfect for date night, girls' night, or your next birthday pregame spot. I had a good experience here and plan to return in the near future!

The service here is good and the workers were friendly. The interior was nice, beautiful and spacious. There is some street parking and a parking structure nearby. I liked how I was still able to hear my friends even though music was playing. They did not sell food here and only sold drinks. The drinks were decently priced and didn't taste too strong. My favorite drink was the El Diablo because you can taste the alcohol less in that one. Definitely a chill spot, that I would come back to again.

Came with a group of friends on their soft opening and all the staff were all very welcoming! We were able to get booth seating as there weren't that many people in the space. It seems like not many people know about this place and it is tucked in a street that can be easily missed but it is definitely a gem! My friends all got different drinks and all drinks were pretty good and pretty affordable. Most drinks was $13! Its also a five minute walk from the famous San Pedro Square too!

I was going to give this place another try this weekend with some friends and bf, until this message came though. By the name of James I believe they are the owner or worker for Selva. They messaged me apologizing for my first impression experience and wanted me to give them a chance by texting to someone so he can host me and whoever I bring. So I decided to look through the persons profile and not only did he left one review a month ago but they also left another one about 35 mins ago! The photo they uploaded has nobody but the workers in there. So this must be the owner. If you are wanting to gain crowds, maintain a good rating. Do not go in and start making random reviews just to boost your ratings and maintaining it at a 4.0 or higher, also do not make your employees make reviews just to maintain a high star ratings. If you wanted to make it right. You should've messaged me alone and maybe things would've been different. I am very disappointed because I was going to give this establishment another chance. But I will not go here anymore at all, I'll let everyone know about my experience along with how the owner and workers are interested in high ratings this bringing new customers.

This place is located a couple of blocks away from other bars/restaurants and was not crowded when we came by on a Thursday night. They're a new spot that's still in their soft opening phase, so seems like not many people know about them yet. Upon entering, there is a little bridge and waterfall, along with some foliage and little twinkling lights on the ceiling to give you the impression that you're in the jungle under the stars. Their shelf of liquor looked beautiful and impressive. The lighting is kept very dim and the music is not too loud, which makes it an ideal place for a date or catching up with friends. The prices of their cocktails seem very reasonable as most were $13 or $15. Although, their menu is very limited. Also, no food menu. My group got the Margarita, Carajillo, Cosmopolita, and El Diablo. I liked my friends' drinks, but was not a fan of mine (Carajillo). Overall, it's a cute spot and welcoming addition to DTSJ.

Amazing ambiance, great sound, better drinks with super fast and cool bartenders, savren took great care of us all night. Felt very safe and had a lot of fun!

A bit crowded when I went but it was a vibe! The bartender was so nice and the place is cool inside :)

Two questions is there a cover charge to get in and do they serve other drinks besides tequila?

There is a cover charge. The girl up front was charging $20 per person but then the bouncer told us it was $10 per person but the girl up front wanted to up charge it to $20, and from what I saw from reviews it's mainly tequila

Alter Ego is a proper intimate lounge with their full bar, and it feels like a world away from the street outside. The transition between the two spaces is surprisingly seamless and genuinely fun to experience. And they're open late, which puts them in a rare category of places actually worth staying out for. Despite that, we sat down and a waiter came by to take our order with a trainee. We gave him our drink order and needed a minute before ordering food. While looking over the menu, the training waiter is explaining the "do's and don'ts" of the restaurant to trainee right next to our table which was distracting to us and clearly uncomfortable for the trainee. Once decided we order and then the trainer was explaining to the trainee how it's their policy to receive payment after ordering (keep in mind we haven't received food or drinks yet and the starting gratuity was 20%). We pay and give looks to each other after the cards are charged because at this point we are wondering what is going on here?!?!?! The drinks come out 10/10...then the food. I have seen prosciutto look different in Spain and other establishments BUT NEVER have I seen tan/khaki tipped prosciutto. Then once I decline my order (we ordered 2 charcuterie boards and they brought out 1 at a time) the waiter said "we can't reverse the payment so we can give you something else of that value." I looked at the menu and didn't see anything else that looked appealing. When looking at the reaction from my friends, they suggested we leave because the food was either reaching the expiration date or surpassed it. Pros: if you're ever in San Jose the drinks (we only had one each but the ones we had were great) and whiskey selection is grand. Cons: food, the service, and payment policy. I expect to pay fast food establishments before receiving the meal, but never have I been charged (including starting gratuity at 20%) before receiving the meal.

I think traditionally, you need reservations for Cielo, but their Winter Experience (ran through December and mid-January) is first-come, first-served. The Winter Experience is a Christmas-themed set-up - very tastefully and beautifully decorated - with Christmas music (even 2 weeks after the New Year). the tables along the edge have small in-table fire pits AND a tall heated furnace - you will not be cold in December. these tables do require a minimum spend of $50 per person, which we came into this expecting that regardless - however, it sounds like you can sit at any of the other tables without this minimum spend, though you will only have a blanket for warmth. the sunset was beautiful, though keep in mind that we do live in a city, and there are other tall buildings around, so don't set your expectations too high. Overall, we are so happy we finally checked this place out, and that we were able to do so during the Winter Experience. We did find it overpriced (considering it's at Hotel Valencia... we weren't surprised) for what you get. I tried one cocktail (~$20) that tasted like a flavored soda, before switching to wine; my husband had 2 Old Fashioned, they were both made differently but both good. The food was good - small, shareable portions. We're happy to have finally stopped in, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come again. HOW TO GET THERE: enter Hotel Valencia from the ground floor; take the elevator to Floor 3; go straight down the hall, pass the front desk on your left, to the second set of elevators; take that to the top floor
