The perfect spot for a night out! It's such a unique concept, with vintage arcade games scattered throughout the bar. There were also large screens projecting video games, which added to the arcade theme. I've never been to a bar like this one in the Bay Area. I visited on a Friday night, and it was absolutely packed. However, the space is pretty big, so there were still available tables to sit down at and open games waiting to be played. There was also no line outside to get in. The drinks were delicious and fun. They were playing fun music, which added to the lively and boisterous atmosphere. Everyone was here with their group of friends, laughing and catching up. I'd definitely visit again for the drinks, games, and general ambiance.

I am surprised it took me this long to review this place. This is probably one of my favorite bars in San Jose. I usually bring people that are visiting here so they can experience it too. I love going during holidays season when the place is decorated and drinks are the special holiday drinks but the off season is good too. This place usually gets packed as the night progresses so we like going here when it's a bit early to get to play games and get drinks and food faster. Plenty of arcade games everywhere, they also has a tiki bar by the pinball machines by the kitchen. Food was okay but drinks are very good. A lot to do and super fun for everyone.

Miniboss is one of our favorite date night spots in SJ! We first came in on a Saturday night around 9:30. It was decently full, but we didn't have a problem ordering drinks or playing games. Staff are friendly, and we were served quickly. The cocktails and the games are a highlight for sure. We usually find ourselves back at Miniboss after a weekend dinner in San Pedro area. Certain nights - like Halloween weekend - can get very packed. Recommend parking in any of the structures around San Pedro Square area and walking over. Compared to some SF barcades I've been to, Miniboss is well organized, clean, and fun. We always have a blast playing games like Street Fighter, TMNT, and pinball. Sometimes you have to wait to play, but people are generally friendly and will let you take your turn shortly after them. All in all, one of our go-to spots!

Fun arcade bar in downtown San Jose. Been coming here around the time it opened before the pandemic. The food has changed since and I miss the dan dan noodles. Bring quarters if you want to play. There's also an ATM and a change machine. The cocktails are always creative and video game themed. Bartenders are friendly and fast.

Love this arcade bar in DTSJ! Very fun theme, decor, and games (especially on Freeplay Thursdays). But they have seriously well made and creative drinks to go along with that. They switch up their menus often, especially for special occasions like Halloween and Christmas. Another surprising thing is how good their food is. Don't sleep on their cozy Tonkotsu Ramen, perfect after a long night out of drinking. Fast and friendly bartenders too, it's not easy to handle such a huge volume of orders!

Love their pizza at mini-boss and decided to try the mushroom and truffle pizza, which wasnt my favorite of their assortment but still good nonetheless. The fries are also really good! Order via scan a qr code and pick up at window.

[Full disclosure, there's prostitution at this Bar. Which the FBI should investigate] Other than that, the staff, drinks, and food were fantastic. Love it, just all rainbows, glitter, and bubbles! Free play on Thursday's with Happy Hour, can't go wrong!

One thing about me is I love a good barcade. We were out in San Jose on a Wednesday night looking for something fun to do, and everything was either closed or completely empty--except Miniboss! The vibes here were high, there were lots of arcade games, and plenty of seating. They had some great specials going on for pizzas and select cocktails, which was a nice surprise. The bartenders were friendly and helpful. I ordered the Starbound Bloom with Shochu and condensed milk--it had an interesting flavor, but still tasted good! Only thing is it was like 75% ice, which was kind of a bummer. Overall, such a cool spot--great for a date night or a fun night out with friends!

Fun arcade bar with creative, changing cocktail menu and super tasty food! The vibe feels neon / cyber punk themed and they have coin operated games from oldies like pac man all the way to pinball. I appreciate how the menu seems to rotate through different themes. This time they had a Nintendo games theme with several Asian inspired flavors. The drinks seem to run on the stronger side in the rum / soju-wine cocktails I tried. The food is actually really good here. The fries are a good portion size for the price and are shareable amongst friends. Their fries are nice and crispy and have a thick enough shell to maintain firm texture and avoid being soggy when drenched in sauce. Flavors are great too - chili cheese fries had a good ratio of chili sauce to sour cream.

This bar is so fun especially around Christmas time!!! It's decorated so fun for the holidays and they have holiday themed drinks in fun cups!! I went on a Friday night and surprisingly wasn't too crowded around 8. Service was fast and drinks were tasty!! There are arcade games to play as well as food to eat. Such a fun atmosphere!!

A must visit bar located in dtsj. From the atmosphere, drink selection, service, and arcade games, this place is awesome. Overall a great place for drinks with friends. My friends and I ordered the "Smells like teen spirit," "pineapple press" & $10 "we be jammin'" shooters. The drinks were sooo good! What a fun night out. Will definitely be back.

Mini boss does it again! This time with their Halloween theme! Drinks are still so delicious and have high standards. Service is quick at the bar and women's restroom never has a line!

Such a cool place that I did not know existed. Driven passed may times & had no idea what was behind those doors. Its basically an arcade with a bar. It was a Miracle Events take over, so it was decked out for Christmas. Only had 1 festive drink this time. Will be back to try more & play a game or two.

    happy halloween.

Are kids allowed in? As of 7/17/2025...

Sundays 12pm-10pm are family days open all ages. They posted it on instagram a couple weeks ago

Do the machines still take quarters? Double-checking that they haven't switched to some proprietary token or card thing.

Yes, this is the BEST part! Still take quarters like in the 90s/00s. You can get smaller bills from the bartenders.

Can people who are under 21 come inside if they're with a larger group?

    unfortunately not

    Where do you park?

There is no designated parking lot. You can park in the nearby garages or lots. There is also street parking.

Is the restraunt side temporary closed or permanently closed?

Permanently closed; it's now part of the bar with pinball machines. Some food is still served but it's mostly snacks

    Is there cover charge?

    There is no cover charge

Do I have to bring my own quarters or is this coin op?

    There's a coin machine

Is vax status required / checked for entry?

    yes

Do they have a DJ and dance floor?

No, it's not really that kind of bar.. there's plenty of designated seating

Do they have happy hour or any weekly specials? If so, when/what time?

yes, happy hour is Mon-Fri 5-7pm and Wednesday is free play night for the games!

How many Pinball Tables do they have and which ones are they?

They have 8 pinball tables. Star Wars, Dead Pool, Attack from Mars, Lord of the Rings, AC/DC, Midfield Madness, and Theater of Madness

Do they validate parking at any of the nearby garages?

Parking is free on the street after 6pm every day. Parking garages are no more than $10 bucks for 3-4 hours. Very cheap to park downtown.

    Are kids allowed?

Kids are only allowed on their restaurant side (SuperGood). They also have a handful of arcades on that side.

I walked into a space that gets loud and warm during busy periods, and cleanliness varied by section, but the overall setup gave my group plenty of options for a few hours of entertainment. The arcade is the strongest part of the offering. I found the selection of rhythm games solid and reasonably well maintained, and the claw and gacha style machines are what Round1 does better than most chain arcades. That said, individual claw machine plays run around four dollars, which adds up quickly if I am playing multiple rounds, and the tension on the machines is inconsistent enough that results feel more variable than skill based. The prize section near those machines tends to run warm compared to the rest of the floor. Racing games, fighting games, and photo booths fill out the rest of the arcade floor, and the overall variety was broad enough to keep my group occupied. Bowling is available but came with some caveats. The ball selection skewed toward smaller finger holes and very heavy options, with limited middle ground, so bringing my own ball would be worth considering if I bowled regularly. Party packages are available and include shoes and games, which streamlines the booking process for larger groups. For a casual group outing, birthday celebration, or evening with a mix of activities on offer, Round1 covers the bases adequately. Going in with realistic expectations about the cost per activity makes the experience more enjoyable. It is not a refined destination, but for what it is, it delivered a fun few hours.

It was extremely stuffy and warm in May, reminding me of a locker room. I definitely wouldn't want to come back during the summer. We won a decent amount of prizes (albeit we spent $240), but the prizes weren't as cute as the ones I've gone to in SoCal either. It was hard finding a machine where I actually wanted the plush or figurine. They also had 6 different machines just dedicated to kuromi, which is great and all but there just wasn't much variety. Hopefully they update their selection and add more skill based machines.

They are held at California Extreme in Santa Clara, Golden Gate Pinball Festival in Lodi and Pin-a-Go-Go in Dixon. California Extreme is not exclusive with Pinball Machines. There are also tons of arcade games for those who enjoy them. We have enjoyed attending these events whenever we're able to. In the past, our work schedules often got in the way. Now that we're retired, our vacation schedules often cause conflicts. The people who run this event have always done a tremendous job of getting others to bring their beloved machines, set on free play, for the masses to play. In return, they get free admission. A substantial number of volunteers are also needed to load-in, load-out, wipe down, perform minor repairs, scorekeepers, registration, check-in, etc., etc. We attend to see Pinball Machines that we've never seen before, to play with machines that are hard to find, to play new machines, but mostly to play in the tournament. Yes, there are cash purses and trophies or plaques to be one. Bragging rights galore! But for players at my level, it's mostly about WPPR Points that affect your International Flipper Pinball Association Ranking. As I write this review, I am 8640 out of 103,576 players in the world. Does it mean anything? Only to my ego. At one time, I was sub-3000. I simply don't play in enough tournaments to keep my ranking. This year's tournament entry fee was $2 per game. That is not particularly expensive BUT there was no limit to the number of entries that one could purchase. This changes that tournament of skill and luck to one of skill, luck and DEEP POCKETS. In my opinion, there should be a single buy-in. Everyone plays the same number of games on the games that are available. Yes, this will reduce the prize money but so what? Whatever happens, happens. If you have a great day, congratulations. If you have a lousy day, better luck next year. But under the unlimited buy-in, you just keep putting out money until you have a few good games to tie together for your final score. What? The tournaments almost over but you're in 11th place and only the first 10 places are in the money. Well, play some more and hope to improve your score and win! Anyway, without the tournament to play in, I will either only attend California Extreme one day only or skip it all together moving forward. Additionally, this year, for the first time, the Hyatt is now charging $40 to park overnight. This was either not disclosed at the time of booking or I somehow missed it. When I complained, it was discounted $20 because I was staying there for California Extreme and another $10 because I'm a Hyatt member. I was told that, "all the other area hotels are charging more for parking and the Hyatt is just trying to catch up." There was a 49ers exhibition game on Saturday, August 19th, and parking was expected to be at a premium and traffic would be a zoo. To counter that, we arrived way early to get a space. We arrived at 8:30 for a 10:00 opening. Because we left the house so early, we didn't have time to eat breakfast, but we had plenty of down time in the hotel (check-in was at 3:00pm), so we opted for breakfast in the hotel (see our review for Evolution). Breakfast Buffet at $28 per person vs Continental Breakfast at $22 per person. So, while California Extreme is still lots of fun, between the costs and the crowds and a Deep Pocket Tournament, it may be time for us to move on.
