One of my favorite spots to eat at is Limón. They serve amazing Peruvian cuisine and the food never disappoints. We started with the empanada sampler, then ordered the lomo saltado, Limón ceviche, and their kale salad. Everything was flavorful and came out fresh. One thing I always appreciate about this place is not just the quality of the food, but also the customer service. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. I've never had Peruvian food before!! Since my boyfriend's from New York, he's used to having different Latin foods besides Mexican, but apparently here in California we only have Mexican food?! I need to get to New York!! Hee I was surprised to find out none of their food had monosodium glutamate in it/MSG! That's great for me since I'm freaking allergic to it! The restaurant was pretty packed this Sunday night so we sat at the bar. At least we didn't have to wait to be seated. Lol. Ambience was very dark yet I somewhat felt like I was at a rainforest Café and felt like dancing!! The music was great, and there was definitely a good vibe of people!! Miguel, our server, took great care of us, very attentive and efficient throughout the whole time. For drinks, we ordered two pisco sours: the lychee pisco sour and the chicha morada pisco sour. Love Limon! All the dishes are not just delicious, but beautifully plated. The Ceviche Limon is a pretty large portion and the fish very fresh. The tangy sauce goes so well with the ceviche, and the taro chips as an add-on is delicious too. The Lomo Saltado is a must-get. The beef is very tender, and goes very well with the onions and the sauce. The Arroz Con Mariscos is also very good - there's a lot of seafood to go with the rice. We would have liked the rice a bit more crispy on the bottom though, but it was good nonetheless. The interior has clean and modern vibe, and a nice touch is that they bring a coat rack to your table for your bag and jacket. We had the Ceviche Limon, and the ceviche was well prepared, perfectly acidic/citrusy, but it would be good if they didn't soak the crispy calamari in the leche de tigre. The bowl of taro chips at $4 was a bit unusual because most restaurants include the chips with the dish, particularly when the dish is $30. Let me start with the disclaimer... We went there to grab drinks at the bar and oysters. There is a good size bar area with several seats at the bar as well as a few high tops. Unfortunately for us, a couple of people had stretched out at the bar and took some empty seats for their belongings, however we were able to find two seat seats at the low bar. The dining room offers lots of seating but on a Friday night you should make a reservation or at least plan on waiting if you're right after six. The bartenders acknowledged us, delivered water, and then came back a few minutes later to take our order. They weren't friendly nor did they seem to really be invested in us as customers. We ordered two glasses of Prosecco and a dozen oysters. The Prosecco was chilled nicely. The oysters were average at best. We had been to the Pressroom in San Jose during lunch and had a half dozen there, so we had something to compare them to. These were not flavorful, and at least seven of them had various bits of shell in them. Wow we will certainly give this place another try and order something different, we will cross it off our list of places to get oysters. read more

The food was good, but the experience was a mixed bag. My wife picked Limon because we had eaten at the restaurant in San Francisco previously (smaller, cozier, more inviting) and we are going to a show at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts (which is right nearby). We arrived for a 5:45p reservation for a 7:30p show. When we walked into the restaurant, it was a nice, open plan restaurant that appeared to be about half empty. The host station is pretty small and cramped, just inside the front door. When we walked in there was a man behind the counter who appeared to be the restaurant manager or maître d'. He spent a couple of minutes filling out some kind of paper or credit card information and blocking the hostess from being able to take care of us. He was completely oblivious to our presence and the fact that we were waiting for a couple of minutes, so it didn't start off well. When he finally moved out of the way, we were assigned a young man to take us to our table. Rather than sitting us in the open space in a half empty restaurant, and without explanation, he started to walk around the side of the bar down a dark corridor... It was very strange. We didn't really know where we're going. The man kept gesturing to us to follow him. Unfortunately, his English was not great (usually not an issue and would have been better if the hostess or maître d had said something)...so we followed him down the hall past the bathrooms and around the corner into kind of a big box room with about 25 or 30 tables. It felt like a space that used to be another retail store front that had been added on later. When we walk in, there's maybe one or two other couples in this big empty room. The air conditioning was blasting and it was drafty (considerably colder than the main restaurant. After being seated my wife and I decided that this was not what we wanted. I walked back out to the front and asked if we could be seated back in the main room. The severe manager who have been filling out the credit card when we arrived, was brusque and "the restaurant is entirely booked, and I can't accommodate you. Maybe there was a big party coming, but it was certainly not the vibe that I was looking for nor was his demeanor appropriate. By then it was too late to find somewhere else before the show. So I went back to our table, they adjusted the thermostat in the room and it proceeded to get better from there. The wait staff was generally very good and the meal was great. We had small bites like Ceviche, chicken bites, octopus and string beans. The portions for small bite meals were bigger than we anticipated so we left full. About halfway through the meal we ordered a second glass of wine that we were going to split. The wine never showed up, so that by time we got finished eating and getting the leftovers boxed up, we mentioned the issue to the man who was removing our plates. Another man came over immediately (perhaps the sommelier) and apologizes for the error. He immediately comped a glass for my wife, so that was great. By the time we left the restaurant, the back room had filled up so there was a better vibe, but the large empty room, the air conditioning, and the manager's attitude at the from desk took away from the meal. In summary: - Initial welcome (B-) - Seating without explanation (B-) - Guest management process of seating guests in a removed back room that looks like it is for conventions or large parties...and then leaving it mostly empty for the next hour (F) - Inability to make changes (C/D) - Attitude of manager (D) - Food (B+) - Wait Staff at our table B+ (except for the wine) - Sommelier who stepped in to resolve the wine issue A Overall rating B/B- Likelihood of returning to Limon (55-60%) Likelihood of returning to this location (0-10%) Since we first visited Limon in San Francisco, this now feels more like a chain.... like PF Chang or Pacific Catch, good food, but feels like an average restaurant in a hotel or an airport. I dropped by Limón Peruvian in Mountain View the other day, and overall it was pretty solid. I'd give it a 4 out of 5 stars, mainly because of the portion sizes. I ordered the lomo saltado and a chicha morada to drink, and we also shared the Pollo a la Brasa with lime. All the food tasted good, but a few things caught my attention that kept it from being a full 5 stars. Lomo Saltado: The lomo saltado was flavorful - tender beef, nicely seasoned with that soy sauce tang, and the veggies and fries were on point. That said, it wasn't the best I've ever had. (I've had better versions in Peru and even at a spot in San Luis Obispo.) One thing that threw me off was how they served it: the white rice came on a separate plate. I'm used to the rice sitting right with the beef and soaking up all the yummy juices, so having it on the side was different for me. Portion-wise, it was decent but not overly filling. I was satisfied, but I wasn't completely stuffed - definitely had a bit of room left for maybe an appetizer or dessert. Chicha Morada: For my drink, I got the chicha morada (the classic purple corn punch). Taste-wise, it was good - sweet and spiced just right - but the serving was super small. They brought it out in a little cup filled with ice, so honestly I finished it in like three sips. For what I paid, it felt not worth the price. I was kind of bummed because I love chicha morada, and I was expecting a bit more than a few gulps. We also tried the Pollo a la Brasa (their rotisserie chicken) with a squeeze of lime. That was tasty - really juicy and flavorful, with a nice smoky seasoning. I have no complaints about the chicken; it hit the spot and the lime gave it a nice zing. If you're a rotisserie chicken fan, I'd say give it a go. Service: The service was okay. Our server was friendly enough and got our orders right, but it was pretty standard - nothing super attentive or memorable. Food came out in a reasonable time and our waters were refilled, so no issues there. Overall, I'd recommend Limon in Mountain View if you're craving Peruvian flavors. The back room had a random painting on the wall and a TV on the other wall! While someone came to clean the table next to us, she spilled some glasses and water (or I'm hoping it was water!!!) splashed down my legs! She turned to look at me as I gasped and started wiping my legs. She didn't apologize or offer to bring me a dry napkin. I was very surprised she just turned around and kept cleaning the table. Being in the back room and having things spilled on me while being dressed up and on a date dampened (literally and figuratively) my experience at Limon. For such a nice establishment, I expected a lot more. The back room shouldn't look like an "after thought" because it then makes customers feel like an after thought. Definitely having things spilled on them and not even getting an apology will surely make them feel that way. I was dressed up and on a date, and now was wet down to my heels. *sigh* Honestly, I'd give it another chance, if I lived in the area. Peruvian food is in low supply in the world and I'm glad Limon exists. Take your partner over here on a date you won't regret it. Had what I believe to be the best staples and I cannot describe how much I loved the flavors. The chicken is a good amount if you have a large party, but I gotta say it's weaker flavor wise compared to everything else. Rice from both the chaufa and the arroz con mariscos hit the spot. Your party will definitely fight over the seafood, tastes fresh. Our party agreed that the pork from the chaufa and the peruvian paella were the best options from our selection. Came here for drinks on a Wednesday night and it was way busier than I expected even past 9pm. The whole place has a date-night vibe with dim lighting that makes it feel pretty upscale, like somewhere you'd come for a fancy dinner or a special night out. We ordered the ponche and the bomba del amor, and both cocktails were amazing. Very sweet, very boozy. The kind of drinks you sip slowly because you can actually feel them. Staff was super friendly and helpful, and one small thing I really appreciated was seeing the wait staff actively sanitizing the menus, it made the place feel really well-maintained.
