Amandine Lounge has really gone downhill. There was only one server working, and we waited almost 20 minutes just to get a drink. The drinks themselves have also become pretty average compared to before. For a place like this, the service and drink quality really need to be better. WOW... a cross between a speak-easy & the kinda bar one would see during the mining days in NV. It's perfect with a vibe that's unique, but not copied. More of an homage to bars of yesterday. I participated in a fundraiser at Amandine recently, handpicked by a board member because of the ambiance & overall relationship to the local community. I don't have the details of the cost for an event, but it was money well spent to share our work with a new audience. The bar provided hosted champagne, Old Fashions, & filtered water for our guests. Decor is already amazing & bartender is gifted. He's like a scientist with an aperitif laboratory!! It was fun to watch him create & design & coax & mix & pour. I met a friend here for a drink and we arrived an hour after they opened on a weeknight (5pm) and were welcomed to sit anywhere we'd like. We selected our drinks (dirty Martini and an Oaxacan sunburn). Both were delicious and strong. The menu is extensive without being overwhelming and it seems a lot of thought has been put in vs a smorgasbord of random options. The string lights were a nice touch and made the space feel warm and inviting. It took a few minutes before anyone came by to greet us, but once our server arrived, I asked for some recommendations. I appreciated that he offered some quick recommendations based on my answers. It was a little overwhelming to follow all the names he listed. I asked him about the last drink recommendation and asked him where I could find that in the menu. I just decided to go with that because the list he shared was communicated too fast for me to remember. It took several minutes for our drinks to come out. It didn't seem too busy at the time. The only reason this is four instead of five is the service. While nice, it was slow and we had to ask for water a bunch of times. Then, at the end of out visit we were taken to some other sort of "speakeasy" parts of the bar as an FYI should we want to rent, come on a busy night, etc. But, the guy who showed us around made some strange comments about how he's trying to get something going but management is a blocker. Decent cocktails, blatant fraud: The cocktails here are okay, fine for standard cocktails but nothing special for craft cocktails. The bad part is that they completely lied to me and ripped me off. Particularly Eric Z, apparently. I ordered 3 cocktails, each $18, and asked for the check to close out. The bartender was very weird and didn't present me with the bill beforehand but just took the card that was near me (which was fine, I was at the bar and ready to leave). I didn't see the charges at all. I don't normally worry about this; I often just give my card to close out. But he was clicking a bunch of stuff quickly and his sketchiness made me ask for an emailed receipt which I literally NEVER do. It just felt weird so I thought to do it. The receipt revealed that they charged me for one cocktail that wasn't even on the menu and was $21 instead of $18. I don't care about $3 but this is just weird and obviously wrong. I'm not confrontational (but I'd had 3 cocktails!) so I asked why I was charged for something not on the menu. The bartender said something like it was a special cocktail that's more expensive. I pointed to the menu and said I didn't order a special cocktail I ordered the Gran Negroni (Negroni is my favorite drink) and he said something to the effect of well I also didn't charge you for the soda water (I'd asked for sparkling water and he provided it in little glasses). I said I'm happy to pay for the soda water how much is it (I'm in from out of town so I would have wanted to take the remainder to my Airbnb, like I did last night) and he was like no no it's fine it's just the cocktail was more expensive and we changed the menu recently. Which cannot be true, because he didn't say the menu prices changed but tried to tell me that I'd ordered something special. Whether it's because he thought I was drunk (I wasn't) or stupid (I'm not) I'm not sure. But it obviously wasn't a mistake, since he doubled down on it and gave multiple nonsensical justifications for it. Here's everything I ordered and my receipt, along with pictures of all three cocktails. And my time-stamped venting texts shortly after the time stamp on the receipt. You can see a $21 cocktail doesn't even exist on the menu, and you can see I took a photo of every page of the cocktail menu. There's no such cocktail and no similar cocktail, and if you order the Gran Negroni you'll see it look just like my photo. Since that's what I ordered and what I received... I love negronis and know that's what I got (I also hate grappa, so it's an absurd accusation). So, take from this what you will. At least check your receipt. And avoid Eric Z. The ambiance is really nice here. It's dim lit and very romantic. It's also located in a nice area within downtown Los Altos. The drinks were good and the service was really fast and the waitresses were friendly as well. The highlight of my visit was, without a doubt, the Hawaii Skirt mocktail- an absolute masterpiece. It was far better than the pounding volume of a club or an overly loud raucous bar. It struck a balance that made conversation enjoyable without being drowned out. Almandine is the kind of lounge I can actually enjoy. This place is perfect for a relaxed and elevated evening out. The service was excellent, and I noticed that they offer booth reservations. My boyfriend and I visited this place on Wednesday and Thursday this week at night and unfortunately both times our experience was not pleasant. On Wednesday, we had our first round of drinks which were delicious, so we asked to have another round of the same thing and the bartender never came back after he took our order. He just completely forgot about our order. We returned the second night again, to give them the benefit of the doubt from our previous night experience. We sat down and ordered our cocktails. Right before getting seated, we had asked if we could have the corner table and the person told us that it was reserved. We said no problem. In the midst of waiting to order our cocktails, another couple that was sitting near us asked a different bar tender if they could have the same corner table and he told them yes. That was upsetting because we were told a different answer. The bartender served some drinks to another couple, after doing that, he came to us and told us that he was just going to serve waters to others and that he would get started on our drinks. After he served water to others, he started cleaning/wiping/ removing dishes in the bar area when there was no new ppl waiting to be seated. He took the dishes to the kitchen, and he remained in the kitchen and about 15/20 minutes passed and he still never returned, and we couldn't get anyone else's attention. That was upsetting that he completely forgot about our drinks, and we got up and left since he never came out and we couldn't get anyone else's attention. A fantastic cocktail bar! We visited Amandine on a Saturday evening and found it surprisingly empty. The interior was dimly lit and elegantly decorated with a fully stocked bar, comfortable booth and bar seating, exposed brick, and a map mural wall with empty art frames. The vibes were exactly what they needed to be. We grabbed a booth in the corner and had started looking through the extensive cocktail menu when our server came over. He was knowledgeable and gave great drink recommendations based on our preferences. I started with the Postcards from Japan and my friends chose the Monkey Business, Smoke N Mirrors, and Postcards from UK. The Postcards from Japan was light and refreshing - enjoyable but not enough to order a second one. My friends all loved their drinks as well, especially the Monkey Business and Smoke N Mirrors. We also ordered the Cheese Plate to share. It came with three cheeses - a Goat Cheese, a harder cheese like Manchego (maybe), and something similar to Brie, which was absolutely mind blowing. We were planning to ask about this last cheese in order to buy an entire wheel of it, but unfortunately forgot to. We ended up getting a second round of the drinks though - the Violet Femmes for me and the Postcards from Spain and Black Manhattan for my friends.
