    Crispy chicken sandwich
    Ida L.

My friend and I came here on a Wednesday for happy hour and the place was pretty quiet. However, it was fairly crowded by the time we left. I ordered the happy hour special burger and Hurricane. My friend ordered the chicken sandwich and we got the sweet potatoes to share. I really like my burger, it was juicy and flavorful. The size is smaller than I expected but was filling with the fries. My friend thought the chicken sandwich was too crispy and too much batter. The sweet potatoes was really good without the aloli. The service was quick and the bartender was efficient. I would definitely come back for the burger.

Omelet was ok. Pretty pricey, and there are probably better options for brunch down a block in Castro! Might be better for dinner!

Great place to come for a work meal! My salmon dish felt really healthy. There's a huge table in the back for larger parties. Street parking in the neighborhood.

Beet salad (good & reasonably priced!)

We enjoyed a lovely family dinner here this spring, on the patio. We were sad to hear their business has been way down this year... Our experience was pleasant, there weren't many people there (early dinner around 5:30 pm) so we had a lot of attention from several servers. The food was good and healthy selections available. Only good things to say about Scratch!

Came here on a Saturday night and it's basically empty. Ordered the pork chop and filet mignon and they were cooked to perfection. The pork chop was so tender and flavorful and I really liked the oyster mushrooms on the side. The spicy greens tasted interesting (not my fave) but it was fresh. Truffle fries didn't disappoint either. Overall 4.5 stars. Will come back again!

God comfort food. Clean and welcoming place, friendly staff, and good food. We had the fried chicken, calamari, Cesar salad, and more and we were all happy with our dishes.

Saturday night dinner this place is half empty. Classic decor, big bar area, with split rooms for dining. It's not our first time here but this time we felt both the service and food quality have improved. The menu is generally not cheap, but we managed to find something for everyone of under $25 per item. Truffle mushroom flatbread, Ciopinno entree is only $22, Sctarch burger was $25 and hubby was very impressed with the juicy patty and the overall quality of the burger. I saw juices dripping out while he was biting onto it. My Cioppino was loaded with ingredients and the bread was buttery and toasty, every bite was so perfect. Water service was good that we were never out of water during the meal. Although we got different servers during the meal, we were taken care of and left to enjoy dinner peacefully.

Not sure why this restaurant isn't rated higher. I had a good experience eating here. I'm wondering if the prices may be a little steeper than what most expected, but the atmosphere and service do match. The restaurant is very nice. Classy ambiance indoors as well as a nicely decorated outdoor patio, which is dog friendly. Wait staff were attentive and the food was delicious. I would love to return for special occasions and try other items on their menu.

Ambiance is fantastic , service is also fantastic but I was slightly disappointed with the food. To start my glass of house Chardonnay was very good. The beet salad was very good but the grapefruit and blue cheese with pickled beats was a bit strange. I had the scall and although the scallops were cooked properly they were a bit salty and the mashed peas were slightly too sweet. My daughter had the five spice duck breast which was delicious but very rich. A touch of acidity or a few more berries on the plate would have balanced it out a bit better. For dessert I had the cream brûlée and my daughter had the apple fritter bites and both were very nice. Would I recommend this place, maybe, I would definitely give it another try .

I can say my wife and I both enjoyed our time here. The staff was friendly, our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The atmosphere was good for being able to have a conversation. We came to this restaurant after walking by so many times and not ever looking at reviews. We can both say that we would come back for a special occasion like family visiting town. For what this restaurant does it does well. My wife enjoyed her drink thoroughly and all the food we had to eat. The brussel sprouts came out crispy and with a new flavor note we haven't had before at other restaurants. My fish and chips were some of the best I've personally had, and the flatbread was crispy but light. I would recommend this restaurant for a fancier night out!

As a speakeasy enthusiast myself I definitely agree to the fact that it is "hidden" but also it does kinda give corporate vibes a little bit - maybe we can say they "gentrified" the speakeasy experience which is honestly so funny for Palo Alto. But anyways I don't think a classification should stop you from visiting it. The food is actually surprisingly really good. We came with a pescatarian and honestly while the offerings for snacks were a bit slim, every option was really good. I feel like this was the first time where I understood the price even the the quantity is no where close to be desired. One shrimp is like $6 and I was like whoah. Service is definitely more laid back and it's overall just like a more chill atmosphere. I'm fortunate to work nearby so I'll definitely visit this place a few times after work to blow off some steam... And the drinks! Yes they are good! They are also quite strong! The restaurant was very pretty, with a sleek and floral theme. Also, I noticed some herby smell which was pleasant so extra hats off to that detail. I placed a reservation of 5 at 7:45 pm on a Friday night with me and my family, and we had no issues getting to our table. We were a bit late, however staff made sure that we get seated in no time. Once we got sat down, we got our menus and took some time to decide what to order. Our amazing friend and waitress Elizabeth made sure to give us time to thoroughly look through the menu and decide on what we were going to eat. She was very friendly and caring, and was so excited to take our order, which elevated her experience. Her suggestions were perfect for our family. We ordered the Mixto Clásico ceviche, 2 orders of truffle mac and cheese, Arroz Con Mariscos, Pollo A La Brasa (Half chicken), Beef Anticuchero Roll, and Lengua a La Parilla. In five minutes, the staff already brought the ceviche, which included calamari, fish, veggies, and the taro chips. It was refreshing and citrusy. After we finished that , then another 3 minutes goes by, and everything arrived. I was so shocked on how fast they serve especially because of how busy they were. All the dishes were so fresh and cooked to perfection. The mac was so creamy, cheesy, and delectable especially because of the truffles. The pollo a la brasa was cooked nice and tender, served with fries, and that yellow sauce was addicting, literally ON CRACK. The lengua was great, the mashed potatoes along with the lengua, shrimp, and spicy sauce gave it texture and flavor. The nikkei beef antichchuero roll I was surprised with. Sushi in a Peruvian restaurant? However, I did not expect to be one of the best and interesting rolls I have tried ever. The arroz con mariscos was my favorite by far. It really reminds me of a Spanish paella, with a seafood galore presented with a bed of rice and veggies. It was very filling and delicious. Of course, we couldn't just end there, we obviously had to go for dessert. We chose the Tres Leches cake, and it was presented with chocolate, caramel, and strawberry sauce which was sweet and smooth. Paired with the cake, it was so good and a genius combination. In the end, when leaving, our staff asked us if we needed any extra help with anything before we left, which was a very kind gesture. When we left, the staff kindly greeted us a warm goodbye, and thanked Elizabeth especially for helping us order these great assortments of dishes. In the end, we left with our stomachs full of food and great memories. I am already looking forward to my next visit here, and please, give this Peruvian spot a try, because you will never go back to any other ones besides this spot.

And of course, we always order the caviar because... why not? The vibe here is everything. Whether it's girls' night, date night, or a celebration, there's always an amazing crowd. The DJ knows exactly how to read the room and keeps everyone singing along/ dancing with banger after banger. I think the dish I'd most recommend is the pork shank. Everything about it was super surprising and incredibly delicious. Yesterday we were celebrating my husband's birthday at Valley Goat, right from the get-go, the service seemed off. I called in the evening to check what time would last call be at. Our reservation was at 9:30pm and we wanted to make sure all our guests are able to order in time. The person on call first mentioned 9:30 which was odd because when I checked they were taking reservations for 9:45pm as well so I was like?? Anyway, hearing that I moved our reservation for 9pm since the whole party was coming to the restaurant after work on a weekday. We were running late and called the restaurant to inform them we were reaching by 9:15pm Exactly at 9:15 pm we get a rude call from the host asking us to confirm the EXACT time(to which we said we were right around the corner and would be there in 2min) and that the goat empanadas we specifically requested for may be gone in the next two minutes and that the restaurant shuts at 10pm and we would have to stop dining by then. Which was strange because what about the 9:45 pm reservations? You kick those people out in 15 min? Anyway there is NO acknowledgement of my husband's birthday the whole night, no free dessert not even a candle on the dessert. The server is in a hurry to take away our plates while we are working on them. The server was also not warm. By far, the WORST experience at this high end restaurant we have experienced. I'm not sure if the management and staff have changed but this is not how disappointing I expected my husband's birthday to be. If you do not want to serve customers late in the night maybe don't take reservations past 8:30pm? I understand staff wants to go home but it is their responsibility to take care of their customers and honor late reservations just the way they honor any other reservations. I highly doubt we will be coming back.
