Beet salad (good & reasonably priced!)

We enjoyed a lovely family dinner here this spring, on the patio. We were sad to hear their business has been way down this year... Our experience was pleasant, there weren't many people there (early dinner around 5:30 pm) so we had a lot of attention from several servers. The food was good and healthy selections available. Only good things to say about Scratch!

Omelet was ok. Pretty pricey, and there are probably better options for brunch down a block in Castro! Might be better for dinner!

Great place to come for a work meal! My salmon dish felt really healthy. There's a huge table in the back for larger parties. Street parking in the neighborhood.

God comfort food. Clean and welcoming place, friendly staff, and good food. We had the fried chicken, calamari, Cesar salad, and more and we were all happy with our dishes.

Saturday night dinner this place is half empty. Classic decor, big bar area, with split rooms for dining. It's not our first time here but this time we felt both the service and food quality have improved. The menu is generally not cheap, but we managed to find something for everyone of under $25 per item. Truffle mushroom flatbread, Ciopinno entree is only $22, Sctarch burger was $25 and hubby was very impressed with the juicy patty and the overall quality of the burger. I saw juices dripping out while he was biting onto it. My Cioppino was loaded with ingredients and the bread was buttery and toasty, every bite was so perfect. Water service was good that we were never out of water during the meal. Although we got different servers during the meal, we were taken care of and left to enjoy dinner peacefully.

Not sure why this restaurant isn't rated higher. I had a good experience eating here. I'm wondering if the prices may be a little steeper than what most expected, but the atmosphere and service do match. The restaurant is very nice. Classy ambiance indoors as well as a nicely decorated outdoor patio, which is dog friendly. Wait staff were attentive and the food was delicious. I would love to return for special occasions and try other items on their menu.

Ambiance is fantastic , service is also fantastic but I was slightly disappointed with the food. To start my glass of house Chardonnay was very good. The beet salad was very good but the grapefruit and blue cheese with pickled beats was a bit strange. I had the scall and although the scallops were cooked properly they were a bit salty and the mashed peas were slightly too sweet. My daughter had the five spice duck breast which was delicious but very rich. A touch of acidity or a few more berries on the plate would have balanced it out a bit better. For dessert I had the cream brûlée and my daughter had the apple fritter bites and both were very nice. Would I recommend this place, maybe, I would definitely give it another try .

I can say my wife and I both enjoyed our time here. The staff was friendly, our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The atmosphere was good for being able to have a conversation. We came to this restaurant after walking by so many times and not ever looking at reviews. We can both say that we would come back for a special occasion like family visiting town. For what this restaurant does it does well. My wife enjoyed her drink thoroughly and all the food we had to eat. The brussel sprouts came out crispy and with a new flavor note we haven't had before at other restaurants. My fish and chips were some of the best I've personally had, and the flatbread was crispy but light. I would recommend this restaurant for a fancier night out!

Came here on a Saturday night and it's basically empty. Ordered the pork chop and filet mignon and they were cooked to perfection. The pork chop was so tender and flavorful and I really liked the oyster mushrooms on the side. The spicy greens tasted interesting (not my fave) but it was fresh. Truffle fries didn't disappoint either. Overall 4.5 stars. Will come back again!

We went for a family dinner. The ambiance is very nice. The service provided by Sofia was great. We ordered lobster roll , salmon, filet mignon, goat cheese salad and truffle fries. Except for goat cheese salad which was ok, all other entrees were great.

As a speakeasy enthusiast myself I definitely agree to the fact that it is "hidden" but also it does kinda give corporate vibes a little bit - maybe we can say they "gentrified" the speakeasy experience which is honestly so funny for Palo Alto. But anyways I don't think a classification should stop you from visiting it. The food is actually surprisingly really good. We came with a pescatarian and honestly while the offerings for snacks were a bit slim, every option was really good. I feel like this was the first time where I understood the price even the the quantity is no where close to be desired. One shrimp is like $6 and I was like whoah. Service is definitely more laid back and it's overall just like a more chill atmosphere. I'm fortunate to work nearby so I'll definitely visit this place a few times after work to blow off some steam... And the drinks! Yes they are good! They are also quite strong! Would come back again but also if you're conscious of budget then I'm not sure if you'll find the same value proposition.

We tried to get here before the end of happy hour which is kinda early, at 5:30pm. Drinks are interesting and different, everything on the menu from the bites to drinks have a little Japanese fusion or influence going on. We pretty much tried every small plate on the menu. Most of it was delicious, a couple were just meh (katsu was not anything special, not was the duck meatball). Other than that, and over all, would highly recommend this spot in general. Btw the bar is from the same proprietor as the restaurant Protégé (across the street). Fun little bar for some music and drinks, they even have a disco ball.

No big deal, as I wanted the bar anyway, but something others should keep in mind. The cocktail list is plentiful and intriguing. I tend to avoid tequila, so that eliminated a good chunk of the options. I went with Rose Colored Lenses, which was fantastic, and decently sized. Presentation was beautiful. My friend had All a Dream, also very good. The wine offerings are minimal, this is very much a cocktail or champagne type of place, with caviar being the primary food service. Speaking of service, the bartender was excellent, both in his mixology and demeanor. It took awhile to get the drinks, but I assume that was due to the complexity of the cocktails, paired with having just opened the doors a few min earlier. Two notes: 1. The barstools were a little too low, imo. I don't normally pay much attention to that detail, but these were uncomfortably low for me, even with my long torso, I was hyper aware of my posture. So maybe that's actually a good thing 2. Other patrons were rolling in shortly behind me, so there is probably an early crowd when they first open, then a late night group that appreciates the 2am closing time. Interior is beautiful, and you can use the steps up to the 2nd floor either from N Santa Cruz or the rear parking lot off W Main. More substantial food options are a mere few steps across the hall at Heritage.
