    Ensalada de Tomate
    Mina M.

Yesterday I attended a fellowship graduation celebration at this Spanish restaurant, and it was my first time here. The event featured a multi-course meal, though the serving style was a bit unconventional for a graduation dinner. Instead of individual portions, many dishes were served family-style, which sometimes led to a scramble for serving utensils. We even found ourselves using personal forks for some shared plates, which wasn't ideal. The meal kicked off with a delicious selection of tapas, including pan con tomate, Iberian charcuterie, croquetas de jamón, churros bravos, ensalada de tomate, and olivada broccolini. The tomato salad, with its sweet tomatoes, flavorful dressing, and olives, was a definite highlight. For the main courses, we shared dry-aged ribeye (perfectly rare to medium-rare) and a delightful salmon en papillote with a curry and coconut sauce. The ribeye was particularly memorable. Next came three types of paella served in cast irons: Paella Negra con vieiras (made with squid ink), a vegan paella, and my favorite, the Paella Campestre, featuring pork belly, chicken thigh, and seasoned vegetables. Dessert was also served family-style, but the small plates made sharing a bit challenging, with everyone getting just a spoonful. While the food was generally good, with some standout dishes like the tomato salad and ribeye, I didn't find it to be a truly 'blow-me-away' experience. The service was attentive, with servers constantly checking on us and offering sparkling water or champagne. However, I was nearly charged for a margarita that I thought was included, and at $17 before tax and tip, it highlighted the restaurant's high price point. Given the cost and the somewhat limited serving sizes for shared dishes, I don't see myself prioritizing this restaurant for a future visit, though I wouldn't rule out returning. Despite some logistical quirks, the graduation celebration itself was enjoyable, even with the background noise from the main dining area making speeches hard to hear.

felt like a slightly worse teleferic since they both specialize in tapas in palo alto. easy to get a last-minute res, so would recommend booking one since they were bustling even on a wednesday evening. both dishes were yummy and well crafted, i actually liked the tapas more than the paella (i've had better), but both felt a bit small in portion for the price. nice vibes for a date or friends gathering, but can be a bit loud

Our group of 3 picked Macarena for Friday dinner. And yes, we were definitely influenced by the fact that Bad Bunny ate here lol. My bestie made a reservation and thank goodness she did because the restaurant was packed. The interior is beautiful with a classy, upscale vibe and warm dim lighting. My favorite area was definitely the bar, it looked gorgeous and now I have an excuse to come back for cocktails. Our table was in a quieter section, which was perfect for catching up and gossiping. Service was amazing from start to finish. Everyone was welcoming, and our server gave us great food and drink recommendations. We went through two rounds of drinks: Espresso Martini, Piña Blanca, and Margarita. I originally came for the frozen espresso martini but they had just changed the cocktail menu the week before... so sad lol. The regular one was still really good though. For food, we shared the Churros Bravos, Abuelita's Meatballs, Oxtail Canelones, Wagyu Carrillera, the Rib Eye Paella special, and finished with the Saquets de Crema. (big feast, i know lol) The Wagyu Carrillera completely stole the show for me. It was so tender that I ended up ordering another one to-go. The Oxtail Canelones was probably my least favorite since they put too much sauce I hardly can taste the oxtail. The dessert - Saquets de Crema, on the other hand, was amazing. Our server told us to eat it in one bite, and wow... he knew exactly what he was talking about. It was crispy on the outside, rich and creamy vanilla cream inside, dipping with soft warm chocolate sauce, killer combo and explosion of taste bud. Overall, such a great dinner. Beautiful atmosphere, great service, delicious food, and definitely a place I'd recommend Macarena for a fancy date night or upscale business meeting because the vibes they giving is high-end from start to finish.

It was our first time eating here and I immediately loved it. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere. It's elegant yet comfortable, with a refined but welcoming feel that made us want to stay and enjoy our meal. The food was amazing and I loved everything we ordered especially the paella. I'm a big fan of paella and theirs did not disappoint. It was so flavorful. The service was also friendly and attentive. I'd definitely come back the next time I'm in the area.

Went here for a cousin's birthday dinner and we all enjoyed the meal! Paellas were well seasoned and perfectly cooked - I also really enjoyed the pulpo a la brasa. Our server was very kind and we got a small dessert as a gift for the birthday girl. The interior is super cute, would definitely come back for date night!

I really enjoyed their seafood paella and appetizers as it had a deep seafood taste and the appetizers were fried and grilled to perfection. The staff was super nice and informative and gave amazing recs. Definitely try the paella squid ink if you have the chance as it doesn't disappoint.

Macarena was a solid tapas stop that I'd come back to if I was in the area. The restaurant is located streetside with some outdoor seating and a pretty big dining area inside. Loved the big wooden door you have to open and the service was really solid/helpful. We had a bigger party and at first were seated at a smaller than expected table. When we noted we had more people coming, the hostess and service team were really nice in helping us find a bigger spot pretty quickly and moving all of our water cups. The menu itself is pretty extensive with lots of tapas options you'd expect. Here's what we had: +Churros bravos: Their showstopper appetizer. It came out in a churros shape and was such a melt in your mouth appetizer. Amazing and came with some crema. +Squid ink paella: Pretty solid. Although it came a little drier than expected, I think the mix itself was pretty good with a good amount of seafood. We had people come throughout the day so made sure to order this early as it did take a bit of time to come out. +Croquettes: Solid and tasted good with a good amount of jamon. +Branzino: Surprisingly big and meaty. Was a great entree for the table. +Pulpo: Overall presentation was great. Taste wasn't bad. Think we've had better elsewhere but most of the table liked it and liked the potato puree in particular. +/-: Pan con tomate: Ordered this later on in the meal and in the end, didn't think it was as good as the other tapas we got. Wish it came with more tomato overall and the bread was a little hard. -Crystal Mojito: The mocktail I had was a bit too overly sweet and didn't really remind me of a mojito. Less refreshing that expected. There's some street parking as well as a tight parking lot across the street. Overall, wasn't our most favorite tapas spot but we overall enjoyed what we had and service was fantastic.

Celebrated a friends birthday here - table for 5! We were seated immediately at our reservation time in a corner booth. Ambiance is lovely and I enjoyed the high ceilings and decor. We ordered gin and tonic experience - one floral and one with the szechuan peppercorn. The flavors were a little overpowering, but maybe just not for us. I also got their martini which had savory elements and I LOVED. It was so smooth and hit the spot. FOOD: Meatballs: good, v juicy, but loved the sauce they were in more than the meatballs themselves Broccolini: love me some veg and thought it was cooked well - but could def omit if you're group isn't veg lovers Gambas: good shrimp, nothing particularly amazing - ended up using the bread for the meatball sauce Grilled calamari: Really liked this dish - good texture on the calamari (not rubbery) and the sauce was super complementary Pulpo: Favorite dish by far. The octopus was perfectly perfectly cooked. Incredibly tender and was such a phenomenal dish Branzino: love me a branzino and liked the tomatoes and sauce that accompanied Fideua: didn't read this one fully on the menu and didn't realize it was a small noodle dish rather than a paella paella. Still good but just not what we were expecting Ribeye paella*: The ribeye was cooked extremely well and the salt from the ribeye was enough to flavor the rice underneath as well. *** I didn't realize that you needed to request socarrat and was surprised it didn't already come that way.... Overall: There were no dishes that were necessarily misses - standouts were the pulpo and ribeye paella! Would come back if I had other friends that wanted to try, but there are other good Spanish options all over the peninsula and south bay that I'd personally frequent before returning.

We stopped by for a quick bite before a concert. I was excited to try it out but felt a bit disappointed afterwards. We weren't starving but wanted to share a few items because we aren't from the area and we haven't had tapas in a long time. We ordered 2 different drinks to try. They were just average - more on the sugary side (around $16 if I remember correctly). I prefer them to be a bit more strong. We ordered a few tapas to share. One was a prawn dish - they were not prawns, they were shrimp. They were small in size and the flavor was a bit bland. We also tried the fried eggplant chips. They were just ok - seemed a bit greasy as if they were just soaked in oil. Lastly the grilled squid(probably my favorite) - it was simple but good. I also ordered the beef cheek but the waiter forgot to put my order in so by the time we asked about it, it was already too late and we had to leave. Service was ok - we got everything in a decent amount of time and server came to check on us. Only downside was he forgot to put my order in which worked out anyways. Food was just mediocre at best.

Macarena had a very nice energy, mellow lighting, and calm but warm sound. The staff were extremely friendly, but came by the table a bit too much. The food was delicious, with the tartare and octopus being by far the stars of the show. The rest was good, but not extraordinary. The price was high, so my standards are going to be as well. The oxtail pasta was a bit soupy and felt like too much sauce, overpowering oxtails natural delicious flavor. Would come back again, but more for the ambience and date night vibe than the food/price..

Nice ambiance and good service. Tapas were good but was disappointed by the tiny unbalanced portions of bread in some of the tapas. We ordered a steak paella and it was wayyy too salty and could not finish it. We were seated outdoors and it got quite chilly, no heat lamps were turned on. Parking was difficult to find nearby, I ended up parking a few blocks down in the residential area.

5 stars. Came with a group of 9 to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had a reservation so we didn't have to wait, but it seems to get pretty crowded and busy at this restaurant. The service here is really good, our server was very friendly and attentive. For a large group, there is a minimum spending 85 per person. We had no trouble reaching at that minimum; the drinks, tapas, and paellas add up pretty quickly. We ordered a variety of dishes but I think the must gets are the iberco ham, bread and cheese, and dry aged beef paella. The paella is big, but we ordered 3 for our group of 9. Everything can feel a bit heavy towards the end since all the dishes use a good amount of fats, but most dishes come with lemon, which gives a good balance. Overall, although I don't eat this type of cuisine often, I would definitely come back for special occasions.

We were sat right away and immediately ordered a bunch of things to share as we'd been dreaming about this meal all day. Lucky for us, all the food started coming out of the kitchen so quickly! The gambas al ajillo were plump, juicy, garlicky. The crab croquetas just melt in your mouth immediately and are rich in flavor. Even the cauliflower appetizer such was a pleasant surprise. The flavor of that romesco sauce and the texture of the cauliflower were both perfect. The wagyu empanadas were just okay to be honest and I'd skip it next time and opt for more of the croquetas. We then shared the paella mixta which was so savory and so delicious. The crispy rice bits at the bottom always make for my favorite bites. We get extra aioli on the side to eat with the seafood. Finally we got the dessert sampler which came with churros, an orange mousse, and a Catalan toast dessert with ice cream. The toast was my absolute favorite, crisp exterior and luxuriously fluffy inside all caramelized with a side of ice cream. I may just get the full version of that dessert next time though the other two were still good. The churros were solid and the mousse tasted like a creamsicle. It had what tasted like a white chocolate shell around that was still soft. The mousse did start to melt pretty quickly so I'd say eat that one quickly Overall I was happy with almost everything we ordered. The service was quick and attentive. Now I'm definitely looking forward to my next trip back here

With a quick glance, she confirmed her belief that the order had been picked up. But when I read it later, it actually said that the order was ready for pick up. I wanted to correct her, but she had already shifted her attention to help other customers and didn't show any interest in wanting to have a further conversation. Why fly to Spain during the pandemic when you get paella and your Spanish goods in Palo Alto?…read more Technically, tourists aren't even allowed into Spain right now anyway, so this is one of your better alternatives. This is a tiny market attached to the Telerific restaurant. It doesn't at all rival La Boqueria, the famous market on Barcelona's Las Ramblas which is AMAZING (check out my 5-star Yelp review), but we're talking Palo Alto now, right?! I came for the paella. It's the same paella as you'd get if you from Teleferic, but this is take-out only. The wait time is about 20 minutes. You can get it in a standard plastic-like takeout bowl or in an iron paella pan for a refundable $15.00 deposit. I ended up with both, but if you want something nicely presentable (which Hubs really appreciates), get it in the paella pan. I got the Paella Mixta (meat & seafood, $19.00, serves one). The amount of meat and seafood was very generous. There's a nice prawn atop the paella, but overall pretty salty, meats were dry (great calamari though!) and the rice was missing that great crisp socarrat bottom that I've enjoyed eating all over Spain and Portugal. This was probably more like a 3-star. The Ham Croquettes ($8.00) and Patatas Bravas ($9.00) were ok. The patatas were on the saltier side, but the portion size was good. If you reheat the croquettes, just wait before popping these hot round babies into your mouth or you'll burn your mouth as Hubs did. Inside the market, you can get Spanish wines, freshly jarred sangrias, and many ingredients you'll need to make an authentic paella, like Bomba rice from Spain (a must, in my book for paella) and even paella kits. And if you like black truffles, which I'm crazy about, try the imported Torres potato chips from Spain, which have a super potent black truffle aroma and flavor. The secret sauce is the dehydrated black truffles. These sell out of these fast! An additional Yelp star for the market staples and nice service. It's nice to have a local market like this selling quality culinary items from Spain. And if you want some paella for take-out, they've got you covered here too. TIP: No seating for items purchased from the market. Outdoor seating is reserved for the Telerific restaurant.

The jerk pork was tender, crisp in some spots, and delicious; the jerk chicken was perfectly cooked, well-roasted on the outside, and not at all dry inside; the oxtail was yummy and so tender. My favorite was definitely the jerk chicken. Then, previous to this plate, I've only had red bean rice, which was soggy rice mixed with red beans, so the seasoning on this rice surprised me, and it tasted so good. Besides the yummy food, the staff at this establishment were super welcoming and generally friendly. I haven't been met with such warm service in a while.

The hand made fettuccini and dry aged NY steak were both cooked perfectly. The healthy portion sizes were appreciated also, we had leftovers. Also get the bread pudding, you will not regret it! Fun dinner at Sekoya, we will be back.

Parking is a bit tricky, but park in the lot behind. It usually has spots. Modern interesting decor, but tiny and things felt cramped. Also, with all hard surfaces, it was extremely loud! Our server was sweet, and mostly there when we needed her. Here's what we ate: We shared DOUBLE-FRIED TEMPURA MUSHROOMS shimeji & oyster mushrooms, whipped tofu, yuzu, sweet soy, togarashi, chives | $16: 3.5 *. The mushrooms were delicious and so crispy, but not overdone. The "whipped Tofu, etc. was kind of plopped on the side and had NO flavor. I saw no evidence of the chives or togorashi CAESAR SALAD romaine hearts, garlic croutons, parmigiano reggiano tuile, house caesar dressing | $20: 3.5*. Pretty much standard issue. the lettuce was very tender and fresh For my entreé I chose ROASTED SCALLOPS day boat scallops, snap peas, parsnips puree, orange-soy glaze | $46 4*. Portion was small, only 3 scallops (hmmm ~$15 per scallops) The scallops were a tad under for me, but nicely caramelized and the accompanying peas and glaze were a delicious pairing. I usually find parsnip pureé to sweet, but this one had just the right balance. G got ROASTED MARY'S CHICKEN garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, chicken jus | $34. 3.5* This was a huge portion, like half a chicken. She absolutely loved the potatoes. I think the chicken was just okay, nothing special and the skin wasn't crispy. For dessert we split a butterscotch pudding topped with fresh fruit. It was a wonderful rich creamy flavor, but very tiny - 4-5 oz. I don't remember the price, but I think it was like $20 3.5* On balance, creative, some highlights. Would be better just for a drink and snacks. Too loud and price benefit ratio was very uneven. Food: 29/40 Ambience: 16/20 service: 16/20 value: 16/20 Overall: 77/100

We were attended to by four staff members, and while that may sound like a lot, their service was seamless. Every movement felt intentional and unobtrusive, enhancing rather than interrupting the ambiance. The craftsmanship of the food--wow. This Michelin rating is absolutely well deserved. Each dish had such depth of flavor that we couldn't help but murmur "mmm" with every bite. The presentation was, of course, stunning, with flavors that matched the beauty on the plate. I can't wait to return and experience the dining room next. I highly recommend adding Protégé to your "Best of the Bay" list.

Everything was well-presented and aesthetically-pleasing, service was on point, and they checked upon our large party often. The restaurant was very pretty, with a sleek and floral theme. Also, I noticed some herby smell which was pleasant so extra hats off to that detail. I placed a reservation of 5 at 7:45 pm on a Friday night with me and my family, and we had no issues getting to our table. We were a bit late, however staff made sure that we get seated in no time. Once we got sat down, we got our menus and took some time to decide what to order. Our amazing friend and waitress Elizabeth made sure to give us time to thoroughly look through the menu and decide on what we were going to eat. She was very friendly and caring, and was so excited to take our order, which elevated her experience. Her suggestions were perfect for our family. We ordered the Mixto Clásico ceviche, 2 orders of truffle mac and cheese, Arroz Con Mariscos, Pollo A La Brasa (Half chicken), Beef Anticuchero Roll, and Lengua a La Parilla. In five minutes, the staff already brought the ceviche, which included calamari, fish, veggies, and the taro chips. It was refreshing and citrusy. After we finished that , then another 3 minutes goes by, and everything arrived. I was so shocked on how fast they serve especially because of how busy they were. All the dishes were so fresh and cooked to perfection. The mac was so creamy, cheesy, and delectable especially because of the truffles. The pollo a la brasa was cooked nice and tender, served with fries, and that yellow sauce was addicting, literally ON CRACK. The lengua was great, the mashed potatoes along with the lengua, shrimp, and spicy sauce gave it texture and flavor. The nikkei beef antichchuero roll I was surprised with. Sushi in a Peruvian restaurant? However, I did not expect to be one of the best and interesting rolls I have tried ever. The arroz con mariscos was my favorite by far. It really reminds me of a Spanish paella, with a seafood galore presented with a bed of rice and veggies. It was very filling and delicious. Of course, we couldn't just end there, we obviously had to go for dessert. We chose the Tres Leches cake, and it was presented with chocolate, caramel, and strawberry sauce which was sweet and smooth. Paired with the cake, it was so good and a genius combination. In the end, when leaving, our staff asked us if we needed any extra help with anything before we left, which was a very kind gesture. When we left, the staff kindly greeted us a warm goodbye, and thanked Elizabeth especially for helping us order these great assortments of dishes. In the end, we left with our stomachs full of food and great memories. I am already looking forward to my next visit here, and please, give this Peruvian spot a try, because you will never go back to any other ones besides this spot.

I had seen it on the corner before during the day but never saw anyone inside. We had about 16 people for our dinner, which they were able to accommodate with a u-shaped setup. They had various wines for us, including a sparkling wine, a gewürztraminer, a Pinot, and a St. Emilion. We started with passed appetizers: caprese skewers, smoked salmon and cucumber, and spicy shrimp. We each had 3 courses with 3 choices on each course. - Roasted beet and asparagus salad with feta: great flavor on the beets - Ribeye with caramelized onions: a fatty cut and a bit tougher to an expected, but it was good with the Bordeaux. Those who got the salmon and risotto options really liked their mains - Orange olive oil cake with berries: great olive oil flavor, not too sweet Staff were attentive and tried hard. He crafted the appropriate menus that could appeal to our several various dietary restrictions and even provided us a digital survey to make my life easier for collecting all 28 colleagues' appetizer, entree, and dessert selections. Everything was done with such intention to help take any headache off my plate (no pun intended). Cut to the evening dining "experience" because that's truly what it was. We were able to reserve the entire restaurant for just our group. They surprised us with bountiful family style appetizers, the food felt endless, one new beautiful and delicious dish after the next. My entree was the salmon with potato pairings and some accouterments, but I looked at the steak as well as the vegetarian dish and I knew there was no wrong. Each dish was so fresh you could tell they don't freeze or reheat anything. In fact, they consciously purchased and prepped for our group alone that evening. I have nothing but positive things to say about this hidden secret gem. It's very rare these days to find somewhere intimate with such high quality food where the chef is the owner and personally ensures you're enjoying your meal. Well, the secret is officially out, and I hope they don't get an ego about it, because we'll all be sending friends and colleagues Winston's way for a good Thyme!! (Yup, couldn't resist).
