Pretty good-- but not my favorite Italian spot in the area at this price point. For starters, we ordered the bread and carpaccio. The bread was warm and fresh, and so was the carpaccio. I would 100% order both again. For mains, I ordered the ravioli lucana, which was probably the best dish anyone at the table tried. It was the perfect level of spiciness, and had a lot of garlic. I ate the leftovers for lunch today and they were still delicious:) A couple others in our group ordered the rigatoni alla vodka, which I really did not like at all. I've had it at several other Italian spots, and it's usually one of my favorite dishes, but I was shocked at how much I disliked it. That was a bummer... The martinis here are crisp, cold, and delicious! I also tried their version of a Moscow mule with elderflower, and it was great. I'm obsessed with crushed ice, and they had the perfect crushed ice in their mule! For dessert, the chocolate lava cake was great. I did not love the caramel gelato but I'm not a huge caramel fan, so a little biased there. The restaurant itself is beautiful, vibrant, and full. I loved the overall vibe. Service was also great all around.
Always an amazing experience at this location. From the quality of the dishes from apps to the dessert and most importantly the great service it is a great time. I frequently come here with my team and tonight had exemplary service from Jason! His recommendations on additions to my meal to add chicken that was sautéed vs grilled to the gelatos to try and checking in on every detail it was perfect. I will be back with my team!
I think we may have just found our favorite Italian restaurant in the Bay Area. The interior was gorgeous and had such an elegant atmosphere. We came here to celebrate my birthday, and wow... every single thing we ordered was amazing. There wasn't one dish we didn't love. The biggest highlight for me was our server, Jose. He was so professional, dressed impeccably, smelled great, and you could tell he genuinely cared about giving great service. Everything came out at the perfect time, and he made us feel so welcome. Restaurants are lucky to have people like him, and if I were the owner, I'd do everything I could to keep an employee like Jose. I also loved seeing the manager walking around the restaurant checking on every table. That's honestly something we don't see very often around the Bay Area. Even though the restaurant was packed, everything ran so smoothly. We'll definitely be coming back again and again. Thank you for making my birthday dinner such a memorable one!
HAPPY HOUR! 4.2 One of the perks of early retirement is that Happy Hour can happen whenever you want... at least in my mind. At this Il Fornaio location, Happy Hour runs daily from 3:00-6:00 p.m., with Mondays offering Happy Hour pricing all day long. The bar and lounge area features three seating options: cozy sofa-lounge seating, a long communal table, and individual seats at the bar, complete with two TVs mounted overhead. We arrived with just 30 minutes left to enjoy it. The Happy Hour menu includes Italian and domestic beers ($7), Italian and local wines ($8), nine different cocktails ($9), plus a selection of antipasti and pizzas for snacking. One thing I appreciated was that the drinks were served in full-sized glassware; nothing scaled down just because it was Happy Hour. I ordered the Tiki Taormina, made with Don Q Piña rum, peach purée, pineapple, lime, and mint. It was absolutely delicious. My husband chose the Margarita Italiano, featuring Herradura Silver Tequila, Lucano Limoncello, Cointreau, mango purée, lime, and a salted rim. Naturally, I had to conduct my obligatory taste test; his was quite good as well. For food, we started with the Polpettine ($13): three flavorful beef meatballs in tomato sauce, topped with creamy stracciatella cheese (the soft center of burrata). Served alongside were three slices of crostone, or toasted rustic bread, perfect for soaking up the sauce. We also shared the Pizza Fradiavola ($14), topped with mozzarella, Italian sausage, tomato sauce, mushrooms, bell peppers, red onions, and spicy peperoncino. It was tasty, nicely topped, and ideal for sharing. Service was good with at least two bartenders working throughout our visit. Between the quality drinks, satisfying bites, and good service, this spot has earned a place on our growing list of favorite Happy Hour discoveries.
Had dinner last Friday night to celebrate a birthday. We had a nice private room and the service was great! Our server checked on us throughout the evening to make sure we had everything we needed. I had the swordfish (which was one the specials) I think it was a cilantro sauce (which really made the food pop). All the dishes we ordered were plated great. This was my 1st time at this location (as Palo Alto was our go-to, but it has now shuttered). Mtn View location was very busy and lively!
Legit one of the BEST if not THE best Italian I've had in a long time. If you're not up to going out to dine, you will not be disappointed by their deliveries via DoorDash. Excellent packaging. Hot food. Perfection. Every time. As for the food...yum! Everything is delectable. So much so I have trouble deciding what to order. I've been known to order 2 entrees when I can't make up my mind! Favorites have been the lasagna, vodka-sauce penne pasta, and the grilled chicken Caesar salad. Their food literally makes me happy. It's just filling & consistently good.
Came here for happy hour on Sunday. As far as I know, this is the only Il Fornaio location in the Bay Area that has happy hour every day from 3-6pm. It's also one of our favorites. It's very spacious with modern decor inside; service was always friendly. While their happy hour menu wasn't very extensive, everything we had tried had been solid, and their cocktails were delicious and never watered down; pricing was very reasonable, but they did have a 3% surcharge. This time we ordered the Sorrento King and Tiki Taormina cocktails and 3 food items. My husband liked his whiskey with the smoky flavor; my cocktail was fruity and refreshing, just a little on the sweeter side. The calamari was lightly battered and not oily, it's very flavorful with or without the spicy marinara sauce. I liked that they included a lot of tentacle pieces. While I missed their roasted cauliflower, which was no longer on the menu, their braised artichoke was surprisingly good. It was soaked in a yummy garlicky olive oil, perfect for dipping the crostini in. It took a bit of work to get to the artichoke heart, but it was well worth it. The center was so soft and tasted heavenly. I liked the Pizza Fradiavola's thin crust, and it had just the right amount of spiciness with the peperoncino. The complimentary vanilla gelato with raspberry sauce and birthday candle was a really nice touch. We also claimed the tiramisu birthday reward we received via email. Both were very satisfying. I came here with my friend who was visiting, and had a great dining experience! We ordered an appetizer and our own entrees, and were happy with how everything looked and tasted. The meatballs were really good, and the vodka sauce had us coming back for more! The service was also notable, as everyone was very attentive. I loved the vibe of the place, and will definitely be coming back!
Came to Il Fornaio with my husband tonight and had high hopes, but wasn't thoroughly impressed unfortunately. While the food was okay, it wasn't fabulous for any of our dishes. I started with a Caesar salad, and my husband started with the garlic cauliflower. The Caesar salad lacked flavor and the portion is so small for the price. My husband liked the cauliflower, but gave it a 6/10 overall. I got the chicken Parmesan and he got a bolognese. The chicken parm's sauce was not the typical and was not super flavorful. I would rate the dish a 5/10 overall. My husband said the bolognese was alright and rated it a 6/10. We finished up with the chocolate lava cakes which for me was the best part of the dinner, though we have had tastier lava cakes elsewhere. Our server was very sweet and professional , but we saw her very infrequently. Our dinner took just about 2 hours from start to finish and it should not have been that long whatsoever; service just wasn't timely. I would also like to add that our bill came to about $165 with tip which was a blow considering the taste of the food just wasn't up to par. On a good note, the outdoor dining area was pleasant.
Number of guests: 4 (my family) Il Fornaio is a place of Italian excellence - from the clean crisp uniforms to the freshly-made pastas, Everything here is quite superior. Our waiter was Octavio, who, like his expertly holy name suggests, was an amazing waiter with a big smile. Every dish we ordered, from simple bread to Linguine Mare Chiaro was surperb. Their affogato is quite a spectacle, something everyone (except no-caffeine enthusiasts) should try. All in all, I hope everyone visits this place to experience the same experience we had.

I sadly feel like I need to update my review since the customer service is really lacking and the food is also changing in not the best way. I used to love coming here a few times a month for the happy hour to get some good deals on the pizza, meatballs, and fried calamari and a cocktail too. This last Saturday evening = I brought my son visiting from out of town and my husband = got here at 4:50pm to get the happy hour options in the bar area. Had to wait a few for a someone to see us wanting to get seated - rather than in the past, someone greeted you when you came in. Got our menus and it looks like fried calamari has morphed into some odd collection of shrimp and a few calamari, some overcooked green beans?, two quartered artichoke hearts, a cheese filled squash blossom totally covered in breading - wouldn't know what it was if the waiter hadn't told us plus some teeny pieces of fried polenta which was not good at all. It is described with polenta so I had anticipated over polenta or some on the side...anyway when our server told us that this was the option - I was reluctant to order and my son clearly asked if there was any way to get the old style calamari - esp since hubby can't eat shrimp. He said no. So we got it anyway and hoped for the best - no one liked it - most of it overcooked and when a manager stopped by our table and asked how we were, I replied that the this new version just wasn't that great - a fair bit was left uneaten...he commented that the old one is on the regular menu - which was upsetting since I would have much rather paid more and gotten that. Meatballs are now not over polenta but with Meh toasted bread slices on side. Our server forgot about us for a fair bit - we waited and waited to get his attention - he was not even polite enough to leave the check with some sort of eye contact - or thanks - he was busy watching some young woman across the room at the bar with a child that I think used to work there? Very disappointing - even the Margarita pizza maybe has a half of one leaf of basil over the pizza.
They were fairly busy on Tuesday with some big parties but we were seated right away, very nice decor inside and Camillo, our waiter was super friendly and attentive throughout, despite being quite busy. We ordered the Tuesday special of trio pastas and a regular order of the seafood linguine. Both were wonderful. The trio special is a great idea to try out multiple pasta styles.
Tasty Italian cuisine in a beautiful environment & very good service. I came for lunch on a weekday so it was not crowded. Free parking in the lot. I had the Insalata De Pere and added grilled salmon. The salad had just the right amount of candied pecans grapes, Gorgonzola cheese, slices of roasted pear and baby salad greens with just the right amount of pomegranate dressing. The salmon was a nice compliment to the salad. We shared an order of the fresh bread, served with good olive oil & balsamic vinegar. For dessert we had the affogato and a lemon panna cotta. Both were very good and in generous portions, especially the affogato. Professional and very good service. Prices are decent for a nice restaurant.

9/22/26 TUESDAY 6:18PM PACIFIC STANDARD TIME - Reservations were made on Open Table for 6:00PM - Party of four, we were quickly seated, and our waiter Jason, was introducing himself, before I had placed my napkin in my lap. He fetched us waters, and delivered menus. He took our drink order, all the while making us feel comfortable and welcomed with his friendly chatter. He and I bantering back and forth in Italian. Jason, reappeared with our drink orders and received our food wishes. Jason, was very knowledgeable and patiently answered our questions. When the evening ended, we were all in agreement. Jason was a 5 star server. Appetizers / Starters BURRATA CON PROSCIUTTO $19.00 - burrata | prosciutto di parma | arugula | grilled ciabatta | basil olive oil. Creamy and salty heaven with one member of our party claiming she could eat it all day. Main Dish TUESDAY PASTA TRIO $20.00 Ordered by 3 of our party, consisting of 3 different pastas on a long, white rectangle plate. At first glance it didn't appear like much food, but it actually turned out to be very filling. One pasta had a type of bacon, which while being different, was liked by all. Middle pasta came with a pesto sauce and shrimp, while the 3rd was a rigatoni noodle in a red meat sauce. NEW YORK STEAK $49.00 - 14oz New York steak | roasted root vegetables & Yukon gold potatoes. This was your writers choice and it was cooked perfectly. It did need some salt and pepper, but the potatoes were the bomb. Perfectly seasoned leaving me wishing there had been more. As were the carrots, but one of the vegetables left us wondering. Jicama? While being one of the most nutritious vegetables, it wasn't welcomed with this dish. All tasted it and none liked. DRINKS - 1 NIGRONI BIANC $16.00 1 CASAMIGOS REPOSADO $21.00 2 SHIRLEY TEMPLES 12.00 1 GINGER ALE 6.00. Personally, I think their alcohol and drink prices are way to much. Cocktails at home anyone, then dinner? Oh yeah, can't have Italian food without wine . . . Jason, at one point mentioned bread and next thing we new it landed on the table. Didn't know it would have a fancy label - CESTINO DEL PANE $4.00, and served with no butter! Seems like most places serve bread or have bread on the table when your seated, costing Il Fornaio a star. DESSERT - 1 TIRAMISU $14.00 - although having a pleasant aroma and texture, no one thought the serving size was worth the price. The serving also left us debating if it contained alcohol, which is in the recipe of any true Tiramisu. 1 Cannoli (4) 15.00 - flavor was good, quite tasty, but alas, the creme was surrounded by a hard, thick shell. We all agreed, should be 2/3rds creme, 1/3 shell. Il Fornaio is a large restaurant with a bustling, loud atmosphere. This leaves me believing you can find superior Italian food with better prices and perhaps a more romantic atmosphere elsewhere. This is a new location for the popular Italian chain that we frequented when they were operating in Seattle downtown. The decor is similar in style as the Santa Clara one and services equally superb. They offered Happy Hours from 3 to 6pm and we took advantage of that: Pizza, Calamari, Meatballs, Roast Cauliflower, all good. Then we ordered from the dinner menu the grill seafood plate, also excellent. I think I will come for happy hours frequently. read more

Visited for drinks during happy hour and had a lovely experience! It wasn't too busy on a Sunday at 5pm, so my party of two was seated immediately at the bar. The atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting and cozy, with warm lighting, lots of booth seating, and light chatter. The bartenders were super friendly and offered recommendations based on my preferences. The happy hour menu was impressive! There was a variety of reasonably priced drink and food selections. I really enjoyed the tuscan lemonade, which featured conciere vodka, blackberry purée, lemon, and soda. It was quite a sweet drink and had a strong fruit flavor. The tiki taormina was another very solid and sweet drink. It contained don q piña rum, peach purée, pineapple, lime, and mint. Both drinks were strong. Our server, Jason, was a complete professional. He had recently transferred from the San Jose restaurant. He was attentive yet relaxed and shared fun stories about some of the famous people he had served and what they liked to eat. He checked in on us regularly and made us feel very well taken care of. I had a great experience dining here with reservation on a Saturday evening. I enjoyed the restaurant service and ambiance, definitely has a higher end kind of vibe, would be nice for special occasions. The food was good but not amazing. The pasta portions were small for the price, usually I can't finish all the pasta when I go out at similar restaurants but I was able to finish a pasta without filling super full, even with appetizers and sharing pizza. The pappardelle was a little bland, wouldn't get again. The tagliatelle bolognese was solid, and I really enjoyed the gnocchi ragu sauce, though the gnocchi itself was super mushy, a texture I wasn't expecting. Standouts were the beef carpaccio and tuscan lemonade (a sweet drink where you can barely taste the alcohol). Would come again to try different menu items! read more

I've been to Il Fornaio twice recently, both times watching sports at the bar, and being served by Antonio, who is excellent. The first time, I arrived during happy hour, so my first two drinks, a Kickin Old Fashioned and a Sorrento King, were only $9, and the chianti with dinner only $8. The Sorrento King is a smoked drink, very entertaining to watch be prepared. I ordered linguine mare, and was very pleased. For dessert, I was saddened that there was no cannoli, but enjoyed the Napoleone with an Americano. It's a very classy looking place, and the second time I sat at the bar, I watched my baseball team lose on one TV, and my football team lose on the other. So I console myself with a very delicious margarita pizza, very roman style with a great crust. And another Sorrento King, of course. I also had a Caesar salad, with very healthy looking lettuce, and great flavor overall. I can foresee future visits. read more

Decided to try Il Fornaio for the first time and it didn't disappoint. For a Tuesday evening, it was packed, especially at 5:45PM. I can tell this is well loved restaurant and for many good reasons. The ambiance from the get go is great, from an attentive hostess to a great waiter, it made the experience even better. The food was also delicious. The salad was a great starter and if you want a pizza as a starter, the one with zucchini was delicious. Lastly the pasta dish I had was creamy, savory and really comforting. Came in for dinner while in the area. Ordered the bread, a pizza, and meatballs. The pizza had a nice crust but was soggy in the middle. The bread was fresh and soft. The meatballs were a little cold, but the sauce was tasty. We ate them anyway. Service was friendly and attentive. read more

This restaurant was amazing! The main thing that called me here was the happy hour. They have discounted prices on their drinks and appetizers. However, the prices of the regular menu are worth it because their servings are huge. The service was amazing. They checked on us plenty of times to make sure everything was alright. There are a handful of other restaurants in this plaza but a lot of parking available. There's also a lot of seating indoors, at the bar, or on the patio. read more

I came here with some coworkers for a work dinner. I really liked the ambiance--felt super comfortable and great decor. I was craving seafood and ordered the Gamberoni, and safe to say it hit the spot! Absolutely loved the seared scallops, which were juicy and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The lobster cream sauce was a fantastic complement to smother all over the seafood. Prawns were massive and I really liked how easy it was to remove from the shells. The risotto cake was also delicious and had this pleasant crisp. Food quality wise, it was great! But, the portions were underwhelming. I saw that my coworkers who ordered pizzas had so much food leftover, but I could probably down at least 2 or 3 of these Gamberoni dishes For dessert, I'd highly recommend the panna cotta.
