We stopped in on Valentines night and were the first ones in. We were immediately seated and offered drinks. The bread and oil was good but our calamari was just average and spongy. The Mariana sauce was also cold. The entrees were both good and good portions. For the two of us with a glass of wine each, and tip, it came out to $132. There was also no music for most of the meal which made it seem weird. Overall not too bad but the cold Mariana and spongy calimari brought it down. We had to ask for the check at the end as well, with our waitor not seeing we had been done for some time.

If you are looking for a special place to celebrate, Vaso Azzurro is a great choice! They are a fun family run business that will make you feel loved and right at home! I love that they encourage the entire restaurant to sing along in celebration of their guests. So much fun! I came with a large group on a Tuesday night, and it was pretty busy! Chef graciously came to greet our table and share his favorite dishes for us to order. Everybody seemed to be happy with what they got! I enjoyed the Short Rib Ragu! The flat noodle Pappardelle pasta is my favorite! I wish the short rib flavors came through more. I was missing the savory meaty notes. The ragu was a little soupy for my liking. We shared the Chocolate Lava Cake, Tiramisu and Apple Streusel for dessert. The apple Streusel was our top choice! Overall, a fun and tasty experience! Great the family or a big group!

First thing's first- Service was 10/10. Love that they take reservations on Yelp and honestly everyone was so friendly, funny and just delightful. Which sucks even more when the food was not very good. All the pasta dishes were extremely salty while the calamari was not at all. All the seafood didn't taste fresh- especially the scallops. I've came here several times during the past couple years and every time I visited, I feel that the food was not as good as the previous time. And this time just really confirmed that it's indeed true. Unfortunately, I don't believe I'll be returning again anytime soon.

I've been to Vaso Azzurro a few times over the past year, always midweek, and every visit has been a genuinely warm and enjoyable experience. It's a family-owned spot with such a close-knit group, and you can really feel the care they put into both the food and the service. They treat customers like friends, and it shows. They've been in business for over twenty years. The bar area tends to have their most loyal regulars and gives off a welcoming, familiar energy--it's like the Cheers bar, where everyone knows your name (or learns it quickly). It can get moderately noisy, but in a fun and inclusive way, definitely not stuffy or formal. I've heard they used to do karaoke on certain nights, and while I haven't been there for it, friends have told me it's a blast. The calamari, Caprese salad, and tiramisu are my go-to dishes, they're consistently yummy, flavorful, and satisfying. I haven't tried everything on the menu, but those three are always solid. I also know people who've hosted private events here or had Vaso cater for big parties, and the team does a great job accommodating different group sizes. Their banquet menu is listed on their website and is surprisingly affordable compared to a lot of other places in the area. Service is always kind and attentive, which honestly keeps me coming back just as much as the food. It's the kind of place where the staff remembers you fondly, and thrilled to see you always, and the experience always feels personal. Whether you're dining with a group or just having a midweek bite, Vaso Azzurro has that mix of charm and heart that's hard to find these days. It's absolutely perfect for kids and family events. They offer both indoor and patio seating, and the patio has heat lamps, which make it a cozy option even on cooler nights. Street parking is free, but it can be tricky during busy weekend hours, midweek has always been easier for me. However, plan ahead and you'll have a wonderful experience.

Their ambience is unmatched for. It's the best I've seen in the bay area. Their service was really good. The servers make you feel comfortable and give the experience a personal touch. They were singing songs for different tables including a birthday song. They sang us a song before we left. We ordered a variety of things including tiramisu, linguini azzuro pasta, and penne con pollo. Their tiramisu is made from scratch which makes it unique - also one of the best tiramisu I've had. Linguini azzuro pasta was my favorite. Penne con pollo was great. Loved them. Would definitely try again. We also ordered wine for the table. It was good. I liked white wine more.

3.5 stars This has been one of my favorite Italian places off and on. Friendly employees. It was just too loud for us on this visit. Maybe it will be better outdoors when it gets warmer. I wanted something light and had the capellini. It was just a touch too watery and not as flavorful as it could be. Gnocchi texture was a touch pasty. The pizza was better. Pizza crust was the more authentic Italian crust, not crunchy like (CPK) or thin like a slice of New York. Bread and ice tea were ok. Sometimes the food is excellent but today was okay. We won't race back, but I'm sure we'll be back for a meal again.

Vaso Azzurro was our selection for an anniversary dinner. It always has such a cozy ambiance. It feels like going to your neighborhood Italian restaurant where everyone knows you, and you are teleported to Europe. Staff is so friendly. Always lovely to see chef/owner at the door, and at our visit the bartender was in such a good mood too. He was tending to all guests, making jokes and making everyone feel at home. We were courageous and tried pizza this time. While it gave home pizza vibes, we will for sure stick with their pasta dishes next time. Seafood pasta was quite full and enough for sharing across two people. Apple strudel was delicious as always and such a nice way to close out the day.

Amazing Italian restaurant on Castro Street!! We got seated pretty quickly, got amazing bread with garlic olive oil spread. We got the Fettuccine special with prawns and saffron cream sauce which was amazing, and the lobster ravioli, which was so creamy, and honestly was a huge portion for the price. Nicest of all is our waiter gave us free tiramisu at the end!! 100% will be coming back, please check this restaurant out!

Came by for dinner on a Sunday night and it was lovely. Cozy spot for some good Italian food. We started off with their Bruschetta Napoletana and Vongole Al Vapore. The baguettes were nicely toasted and the clams were flavorful. For our mains we got the Linguini Azzurro and Gamberoni Portofino. Both were very delicious with generous amounts of seafood

The salmon special - not much flavor with the salmon

We came here for a birthday dinner and told them so in the reservation but no mention of it or any special treat(ment) :-) for it. I think they must have changed ownership since we last came. Menu now has Mediterranean dishes as well as traditional Italian. I had the chicken parmigiana which came with spaghetti and veggies. It was good but nothing special and a bit pricey at $26. Service was marginal. They forgot the wine we ordered and really staff there just did the minimum of taking our order. They used to have live music here but not sure if they do anymore. I think that would make the place a little more special.

This was a very intriguing Italian restaurant which featured karaoke from the owner himself. Lots of seating available and they were kind enough to accommodate us 10 min past our OpenTable reservation time. Staff were friendly and they would check in to collect plates, thankfully. FOOD: *Insallata delle casa -- standard leafy greens with balsamic, just wished there were more of those tasty olives *Penne calabrese -- Sadly, I did not enjoy my entree very much. The sauce was quite liquidy, the penne pasta was extremely soft and would fall apart on the way to my mouth, and there was barely any red chard as mentioned in the dish's description. Both my partner and I felt like our dishes were not enough as well. He got the Pollo Nikoo, which was a better experience. *Complimentary bread -- honestly, I enjoyed this more than my entree my miles. Their bread was thick, but very plush and paired well with the garlic spread in olive oil. Although this was different from the usual olive oil and balsamic vinegar, I kept reaching for more! *Affogato -- amazing! Despite the load of whipped cream and gelato, their coffee in this was super flavorful. I would order this again if I were craving a dessert at Vaso. PARKING: Street parking was challenging to find, so my partner and I used a parking garage that was around the corner.

    Spaghetti bolognese

A homey, warm inviting ambience almost rustic. A civilized hushed atmosphere conducive to conversation, especially off rush hours. Sweet service and welcoming vibe. The spaghetti bolognese rich and hearty--I brought it home and gussied it up with black olives, balsamic, and sautéed spinach. Their caesar salad was decent--I punched it up with more lemon and salt/pepper for added oomph. Their house bread with garlic herb dipping olive oil based sauce is an explosive punch, sooo good. The salmon, as with most places, was overcooked--not a fan. Their menu is very cream based, e.g. though true carbonara does not call for cream, their version has it. We had to hunt down the few items that were sans cream. The great thing is they were open to modifications and substitutions, which goes a long way in my book. Their minestrone is not the tomato hearty version you're used to, but a lighter broth type, tasty, but I wished it had beans. The prices are fair and parking (street) is pretty good.

We also ordered some jager fries (fries with mushroom gravy/jager sauce, cheese, and green onions). The wrapped sausage was the standout! We also ordered two half liter beers - I love the selection of German beers and local beers. This being a biergarten, of course we went German. Overall, a beautiful way to spend an afternoon!
