One of our favorite go-to spots for date nights. Rootstock is a fun, relaxing, and easy going environment with a very good wine selection and delicious food options. Depending on your mood, you have a choice of three seating options. Inside is a more formal option with table or bar seating. Outdoor patio if you want to get some fresh air while being connected to the indoor seating and a separate outdoor seating arrangement with tables that's parallel to the street if you want to be more private. We usually choose the outdoor seating as we can have a more intimate dining experience. We chose to get a bottle of Cordant Hyperbole Pinot Noir, chicken pesto sandwich and a 2x2 cheese & charcuterie platter. The wine was fantastic - bold wine, well balanced, very easy finish for being a younger wine. This sandwich was delicious, it had a fair amount of chicken, with fresh spring mix, pickled onions, tomato and Brie to bring it all together. The bread was actually my favorite part. The 2x2 platter was standard, nothing out of the ordinary. The size of the cheeses was slightly underwhelming, nevertheless enjoyable. Service was great. We were educated on the wine club and decided to join! We were able to get a discount on our bill and also get discounts on wines in future visits. Seeing that we come here relatively frequently, it totally made sense. Definitely come check this place out for any occasion, date night, dinner, lunch with friends, ect. The gourmet deli sandwiches and fun cocktails are what keep bringing me back here. As well as the friendly service at the bar. During the spring/ summer they even have live bands which is a bonus. WOW! Grace was an incredible, friendly server and had so much knowledge about the wines my husband and I were trying. We did the "Perfectly Pinot" flight with olives and burrata and it was an excellent pairing with the wines - I highly recommend all things listed. Music was awesome!! Came here for a wine flight and food for lunch with a friend and we had a very nice time. We sat inside in the back on the couches which were super cozy. We wanted to go to a wine bar that we never been to but also has outside seating and not packed with ppl, we picked the perfect one this evening. Got a table outside and the waiter even turned out the heat lamp as soon as asked him. Liking the service already, and I just sat down. We ordered two flights, a charcuterie plate, deviled eggs and a barrata olive oil plate. Sherry was our waitress. Love her demeanor, her knowledge of the food and wine and her service. For the red wine flight, we found a red wine he liked very much and it turns out that it's from Italy and Joe, their wine expert, was the one who brought this wine to wine bar. After great conversations with Joe and amazing service from Sherry, we are now wine members and will be back monthly. So glad this place is open during COVID! Had a much needed GNO here. They have all outdoor seating of course (try snagging the seats with the fire pit, super cozy!) and ample seating spaced out from each other. I was a bit worried about how outdoor dining would be but there's plenty of seating. We got a bottle of Rose for the table- crisp, not overly sweet like some Roses. Absolutely perfect. After looking around downtown for a Happy Hour, I stumbled upon Rootstock on Yelp. Their happy hour is 3-6, but I work until 5, so I could only enjoy one hour of happiness. One warm days, the front is open and inviting. It was very cold when I went, so the entrance was a little harder to find. It's very unassuming. When I entered, there was no acknowledgement and I did have to ask if I just sit anywhere, which was a yes. I found that a little odd. I also grabbed my own HH menu. As I read someone else's comments, it's pretty normal for the establishment. I ordered the rose, but they were out of the rose on the happy hour list, so I tried the Sauvignon blanc instead. It was pretty good! I also ordered the deviled eggs and the crostinis. The deviled eggs were very yummy. Not overwhelmingly bacony. The crostinis were my fav. Nice and crunchy, but not so crunchy they fall apart when you bite them. Some people around me ordered the flatbreads and they were TINY. Most recently I was here on a date and it was quiet enough inside that we could talk without having to scream at each other, but lively enough that it wasn't a dull atmosphere. We had a couple glasses of wine, shared the proscuitto flatbread and the empanadas. The empanadas weren't easy to share but both dishes were very good and our servers were funny, friendly and helpful. Rootstock hosted a team event for 13 of my colleagues tonight and it was fantastic. Service, food and drinks were a 10/10. Shelby and Romy made sure our drinks were always full and the food came out so quickly! I wouldn't expect a wine bar to serve such fantastic food, but I'll definitely be back just for the food. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Rootstock Wine Bar is a great spot, and while they close a bit on the early side and have seating that can prove challenging for larger parties, we were well taken care of on a Saturday evening. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $14.00 got me a Chicken Pesto sandwich, a little side salad, and some chips, which in Los Gatos is about as good a deal as you'll find. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? So I had pretty low expectations for this sandwich just on account of the fact that wine bar kitchens aren't known for cranking out the best dishes. With that in mind it maybe makes a bit more sense that I was completely blown away by this sandwich. The bread was amazing, the chicken was flavorful, the peripherals added to the equation, and I could have eaten another one on the spot easily. Well done. Two Stars. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? The one thing that's keeping me from going five stars here is that the food menu at Rootstock is very narrow, and I could write a script where someone might be simply out of options as far as finding something that they're into.
