Excellent food and service. The mussels and French onion soup is my favorite. Also, I'm glad that I'm able to order steak for lunch. This restaurant never disappoint me. I'm giving 4 stars because I don't give 5 stars unless I'm in Paris.

Been walking past this place all the time and been wanting to try it. Finally tried it for lunch. The French onion soup was great, not too salty which is always the key for me. It also had that traditional look with the cheese melting outside the bowl. Service was prompt and friendly. Ambiance is clean and cozy feeling, it does feel like a French bistro. The meat of the burger was a bit dry but the egg was so good. Fries were skinny with the right amount of crispiness and crunch. Definitely will come back to try the other stuff.

Amazing french food!! Vibes inside were cozy and well decorated. Could be great for a date night spot or cute dinner with the girls. Our server was so patient with us and gave us the specials of the day. My water cup was also never empty!! The server also kept refilling our bread basket (the bread was so good haha). At one point the chef personally stopped by and asked how our food was! We ordered the escargot, mussels & fries, and the duck cassoulet. Everything was delicious! The duck was my favorite and would highly recommend. Escargots were perfect as well. The mussels were okay to me but still good! Overall 10/10 experience. Vibe were great. Food was chefs kiss. Service was the cherry on top!

I studied French for 5 years and really love the language and culture. I've noticed this restaurant when I've passed by and it was usually pretty busy. I made reservations online in the morning and it was confirmed shortly after they opened. This is a cozy French restaurant and it feels like you're in France with the music. Also a very down to earth atmosphere. I love supporting small local businesses too. Usually there aren't too many French restaurants so I'm glad this one opened up. The service was really good. The owners were very friendly. My Mom ordered the mussels with the fries and I had the croque monsieur. I liked the mussels better. The mussels had flavor without being too salty. We liked dipping the fries in the sauce. I would definitely come back to try different dishes. I want to order the escargot next time. Also there are specials every week. They have coq au vin, soufflés, etc. But you have to come on a certain day for the specials. They are listed outside on the windows of the restaurant.

We had a wonderful 2026 Valentine's Day dinner at Chez Philippe. We'd been meaning to come to Chez Philippe ever since the chef gave our doggo a small piece of Iberian ham when we walked by sometime last year. For whatever reason our pup likes to drink from the water bowl outside Chez Philippe but from no other bowl downtown. He's half German Shepherd and half Great Pyrenees so we chalk it up to his France-adjacent lineage and sensibilities. He's not wrong - our food was excellent. It was a special menu so even though we know that our dishes are on the regular menu, we don't know if they were fully the same as on a normal night. My wife loved her French Onion soup and my salad was fine but unexceptional. My wife also enjoyed her Steak frites and my Veggie Crepe was excellent also. The Chocolate Opera Cake and Creme Caramel (essentially indistinguishable from a flan custard) were both fantastic. And we had a fantastic table right in the window. Lovely meal in a cute setting.

We really enjoyed our birthday dinner at Chez Philippe. We had the escargot, which went really well with the fresh bread served. The goat cheese salad was really nicely sized and easily sharable among the 3 of us. My steak frites, which I ordered as medium, actually came as well done. My daughter's was suitably medium. I could have said something as they came by to check on us, but I didn't want to make them cook a new steak, so I said it was fine. So I don't hold this against them, but since it was served cut so the cook is easily checked, it would have been nice if it had been noticed before it was served. The apple tartin dessert was a little on the sweet side and a bigger scoop of ice cream would have been appreciated, but it was still good and the sweetness didn't overwhelm since we shared it three ways. Service was really excellent, very attentive to the right degree. The ambiance was homey and not formal - almost like if you were invited to the home of a friend who happened to be a French chef. We would come back again to try different dishes. My wife had the duck confit, which she enjoyed too.

It doesn't get much more French than Chez Philippe. The interior looks like it fell out of a French Countryside design catalog, pictures of the Eiffel tower adorn the walls, and the air is full of melodic accordion music. Even the menu features all the heavy hitters of French cuisine - or at least what American's think of as French cuisine; Coq au vin, Steak Frites, Cassoulet, Escargot, they've got it all. As a vocal fan of French Onion Soup (but too lazy to make it myself), we decided to begin our meal by splitting a bowl which turned out to be a smart decision because while certainly delicious, it was quite strong and very salty so trying to polish off a bowl on your own might put you at a disadvantage heading into the entrée. I went with the Cassoulet while my wife decided to go with the Steak au Poivre, both of which absolutely delivered. The steak was cooked to perfection with a beautiful crust and, in keeping with the French tradition, was more on the rare side of medium-rare. The mashed potatoes (a substitution of the typical fries) were wonderfully light and fluffy, pairing well with the acidity of the green beans. For as good as that dish was though, the real star of the show was the Cassoulet which absolutely blew me away. It was the kind of meal I found myself thinking about days later, looking up recipes and wondering where in the world I could find Salt Pork so that I can attempt to recreate this beauty at home. If you've never had it before, I highly recommend giving the Cassoulet a try. You'll be thanking me later. Overall we had an excellent meal at Chez Philippe and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality traditional French cuisine.

I visited Chez Phillipe for the first time tonight, and I can easily see it becoming a favorite. The location is great... Santa Cruz Ave in Los Gatos is a very pleasant place to stroll, and there is plenty of parking. The decor is casual. This is a place that feels special, without being stuffy or pretentious. The menu is pretty standard French fare. It's somewhat limited, but there are several specials. Service was fast and casual. The food was simple amazing. It's basic stuff, prepared really well. I had the grilled steak (bavette a l'échalote) and my friend had the apple duck confit. We skipped the appetizer and saved room for dessert, and I'm glad we did. I had the Gran Marnier sorbet, and loved it! There are no cocktails, but they have a nice wine list. It's a tad pricey, but certainly fair for the quality of the food and service. I should mention that I am on a low-sodium diet. They were happy to prepare my meal to order without added salt. (Many restaurants pre-cook their sauces with loads of salt.)

Loved our meal here! It was a cold, rainy day, so a warm coq au vin with a glass of red wine hit the spot. The steak was also perfectly cooked, quite rare. The bread was delicious, too, with softened butter. I'm not sure the green beans did much for me, but everything else was great! The live piano music also really contributed to the vibe. Great time here!

Chez Philippe Los Gatos CA Sat 2/22/25 Coq au vin! Crémant d'Alsace Rosé Les Comtes! Glaces & Sorbets w/Grand Marnier! Oh là là! © Poire-Williams Prisonnière Eau de Vie Alsace, complements of Chef Philippe! Merci beaucoup, Chef! Chicken in wine was Divine! C'est très fin! Customarily on this Saturday night, scanned the entrance & kitchen area for Kristi, Chef Philippe, and his wife, seeking to sit at the bar & catch-up! Let's hear it, what're the tonight's specials? Since that very first visit one night, couple of years ago, when I had stopped at Chez Philippe on a whim, no reservations & no plans, there were numerous, phenomenal, pleasant others! My other plans fell short that first night. Learned from welcoming lovely ladies with charming French accent that the restaurant was completely booked & offered bar seating... that's what started this love affair! It worked out so well, these days, I prefer small bar area overlooking open kitchen, to a dining room seating. Unless I'm here with a party of four or more, being at the bar is like being at the center of it all! You get to observe the Chef making magic! Fascinating! Exquisite French Bistro! Unusually high barstools, you've got to adjust your posture! Only wines & Champagnes are served, no bartender per se & no cocktails. I know what I want! You can't go wrong with Les Comte de Ribeauvillé Crémant d'Alsace Rosé Pinot Noir Brut! 37 bucks! Delicious! Salmon Pink, with aromas of red berries, delicate & fresh! Naturally, warmed French baguette, kept fresh in a cloth-sleeve, a side of butter, get ready to scoop up every last dripping of your main dish with! Chef Philippe says, Moules Frites, this was his childhood! Eating all summer long those delicious little mussels ~ much smaller in the West Coast of France ~ in front of the ocean, what could be better? And then, dipping or soaking French fries in the broth! No need for ketchup! C'est très bon! French Onion Soup is a must here ~ not overly salty! Served in a clay bowl, keeping its warmth for as long as you're slurping! Oh I know, that doesn't sound too elegant but hey, I can't contain my excitement! Devoured it! One of the best cups I've had in awhile! Phenomenal, melty cheese cover, it slurps pleasure into your mouth, oh boy! Hot French onion soup in a clay bowl holds the soul! Made friends with a random guy at the bar! He's French! So Chef got us a bottle of Pear Brandy from Alsace, the region he's from! It's elegant French Pear Brandy with a whole pear inside the bottle. A captivating spirit that showcases the artistry of traditional French distillation! An Eau de Vie literally means, Water of Life! It's a clear & colorless fruit brandy, a product of fermentation + double distillation. Yes, it's a whole intact peer in the bottle! Williams Pear Brandy comes from Alsace region of France, and they also call it Schnapps, because they're close to Germany! Maybe half an hour? It's sold in Germany too! Going back hundreds of years, in France, Switzerland, & Germany, Eau de Vie is usually made in the Alps & throughout Alsace! What matters is that Pear stuff is tasty! That's all, LOLz! Call it brandy, call it schnapps, call it a liquor! Clear liquidy water of life, in direct translation! Le Coq au vin, chicken braised in red wine, or literally, it's Rooster in wine! That chicken meat fell off the bone, so sweet & filling, it melts in your mouth! Asparagus, carrots... whipped up mushed potatoes & au jus sauce infused with red wine reduction, I've no words to describe the goodness! Finishing my dinner, with a Cappuccino! For dessert, Glaces & Sorbets w/Grand Marnier! Orange sorbet did the trick! Double Orange + quickly fermented & double distilled fruit Pear brandy, a duet made in Heaven! The smells! The music! The aromas! Hearing French is like music! Reminds me of cinematic scenes, this ambience wakes up my European roots! One doesn't have to understand French to get transported to Paris, or somewhere in the French countryside! Look to your right, towards the window & the street, N Santa Cruz Ave, enjoy your French Bistro decor! Wrought-iron lattice Tour Eiffel! They say that Paris is always a good idea! And tonight, it was good to me, once again! C'est à s'en lécher les babines! Special thank you to the crew! Chef Philippe! Francisco! Kristi O! The people who work here have always been so kind and attentive when it came to service. I love their outdoor area as it's in the heart of Campbell, the interior design is also very modern & sophisticated. I've never had a bad experience here so far.
