One of the best birthdays I've ever had!

The years have rolled on, and Testarossa only continues getting better. Their menu is now entirely updated and offering a variety of delicious options! The live music is always so much fun - so glad to see it's a regular occurrence now. Chef continues to knock it out of the park at Harvest dinners, Farm to table events - I even celebrated my birthday there and the catering was top notch. And of course - the wine, the wine is outstanding and don't fail to ask for that list of library wines, there are some real finds there!

Over 15 years I've been here countless times, as a member, a guest of a member, for corporate events, and special occasions. An underrated local gem. Testarossa is named after founder Rob Jensen who got the "red head" nickname while studying in Italy during college. It started in 1993 and moved into the former Novitiate Winery in 1997 which originally built in 1888, making it one of the oldest continually operating wineries in the US. Rob and everyone I've interacted with has been very nice and highly knowledgeable. They make you feel at ease, even if wine you don't know much about wine. Speaking of which, Testarossa is known for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. I don't drink much white but can vouch for Diana's Chardonnay. On a recent visit, I enjoyed the following: 2021 Niclaire Pinot Noir, 2021 Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir, and 2021 Fogstone Vineyard Pinot Noir. The Fogstone has lots of interesting flavors which are more apparent if you air it for a while. Hang out in the tasting room, the private dining room, or on the deck. All nice experiences.

A charming, elevated tasting experience tucked into the hills of Los Gatos. Testarossa Winery blends old-world character with modern sophistication. Set in a historic novitiate building, the setting is as memorable as the wine itself--stone walls, twinkle lights, and hillside views create the feeling of a hidden European retreat. The wines are the real draw, particularly the Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays--nuanced, well-balanced, and expressive of the Santa Lucia Highlands and other standout vineyards. The staff is warm, knowledgeable, and refreshingly down-to-earth--no trace of pretension, just genuine hospitality. This isn't a casual, drop-in kind of place. Tastings are by reservation, and the vibe leans curated over leisurely. Pricing reflects the experience--well worth it for a special afternoon, but definitely in premium territory. One area that could use improvement is the acoustics on the JRS Terrace. The lively atmosphere often tips into noisy, making it hard to carry on a relaxed, grown-up conversation. Parking can be a bit tight, and the serenity can slip on busy weekends--but overall, Testarossa offers a refined and memorable wine tasting experience that still manages to feel inviting. Would happily return--especially for one of their food and wine pairing events.

I was here a few weeks ago for a friend's bachelorette, with a group of 7. My friend made reservations for the wine tasting and for some time on the patio by the wine bar. The tasting was an ok experience for me. You can choose between the regular tasting ($25) or the premium ($45). The majority of our group opted for the regular tasting since we're not big wine drinkers, but it felt like the person serving us was a little judgy about it. She mentioned a few times that the premium wines were "much better" than the regular ones, as if that wasn't obvious from the naming, and seemed more enthusiastic about serving and describing those wines to the friends that chose a premium tasting vs the regular. She also brought up their membership a few times, not in a rude way or anything, but it was still a little annoying when I was trying to focus on the wine and my friends. It also felt a bit cramped in there since we were all standing by the bar next to other groups, with very little room in between. This made it hard to talk to anyone that wasn't standing directly next to me. I would have preferred if there was some kind of seating or a smaller limit on reservations so that groups could be spaced out. We ended up buying a bottle of red wine from the premium tasting menu to bring out onto the wine bar patio with us. Our experience out here was great, especially compared to the awkward tasting. We sat at a small circle of benches, which was perfect for group conversations since we could all face each other. Our server was super nice, and even let us know that there was no pressure to leave by the end of our reserved time slot since there was enough empty seating for other parties. We ordered the cheese plate and really enjoyed it. Our red wine choice (Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir) was pretty good, and after finishing it we ordered a bottle of white wine (Rincon Vineyard Chardonnay) which I enjoyed as well. I will say that I'm not a big wine drinker so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I would come back with friends to grab a glass of wine and a charcuterie board, but I probably wouldn't do the tasting again. Also wanted to mention that you have to climb stairs from the parking lot to the patio area. I'm not sure if there's an accessible route available.

Visited for the first time a few weeks ago. I can't believe I never visited before despite being an SJ native! Tasting: Fun for a local wine tasting experience, but the tasting room was full of gnats and old/dirty. I would probably skip the tasting next time and just hangout at their wine bar. The state of the tasting room does make me wonder just how clean the wine processing area is, and how many gnats get processed into the wine.... The lady guiding our tasting was friendly and knowledgeable on all their wine offerings, and shared with us the history of the winery. The wine bar: Spacious outdoor patio with wine available by the glass or bottle. We opted for a glass of our favorite from the tasting and shared a charcuterie board. Great local spot for when you don't want to make the trek to Napa for wine tasting, just keep in mind the experience is nothing like the quality you get in Napa Valley.

Lovely place! The atmosphere and service were great, making for a very enjoyable experience. While I do wish there were more healthy food options on the menu. Overall, I had a lovely time and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend for a cozy and pleasant outing!

The Rose was nice, and the ahi was pretty good, but nothing noteworthy. There have been so many restaurants in that location over the last 25 years, starting back at the Chart House, so I suspect a really perfect dining experience might be required to stay around long term. Paying nearly $200 for dinner and leaving the restaurant still hungry is simply unacceptable. If you're charging $38 for a plate, it should be enough to satisfy an adult--not serve what feels like a kid-sized portion. To make matters worse, they automatically expect a minimum 20% tip, even though the value for the money is terrible. I don't mind tipping for great food and service, but it's hard to justify when you're paying premium prices and still have to find something else to eat afterward. It's sad to see restaurants becoming greedier by raising prices while shrinking portions. Customers deserve to feel respected, and this place simply doesn't deliver that. Yes, the views are beautiful, but unfortunately, that's the only highlight. The food portions are a complete joke for the price. I won't be coming back, and I definitely cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a satisfying meal.

This place is owned by a husband and wife team. The tasting room in Los Gatos is cute with several tables, couches and seating at the bar and limited seating outside. You can walk in for a tasting or a glass or two of wine but it's best to make a reservation if it is a larger group. Tasting is $20 that is waived with purchase of 2 bottles or if you become a wine club member. The parking is the difficult part, but it's just to this tasting room. Downtown Los Gatos in general has limited parking. The first time I arranged a meetup event tasting here, it was not that busy on a weekend. Gail, one of the owners served us. What all of us noticed is that while she poured the wine for our tastings, she did not linger to talk about each wine nor did she promote the wine club or even ask us if we wanted to purchase anything. It was not busy at all so can't blame it on that. We wrote it off as a fluke. But, this happened the next time we went as a group and at the various wine walks. Gail will be smiling and will pour the wine for the people in front of us but as my group and I approach, the smile is gone. She will pour the tasting but wait for us to move on - again no explanation on what she is pouring etc. This past week, I was talking to her at an event and she just brushed me off with her hand and talked over me to some one else. I met the husband at the 2024 Vine to Wine event and we had a long conversation, which was a welcome change. Frankly, I don't remember what she poured or whether it tasted good, I came away with the memory of the person pouring.
