Testarossa is the best winery in downtown LG. As such, it's a must do. It's historic, it's beautifully set, it is well maintained and cared for, and the tasting room staff is excellent. If you're looking for a true South Bay gem tucked into the Santa Cruz Mountains, this place should be at the top of your list. They focus primarily on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir--and honestly, that works perfectly for me. It's worth knowing upfront, but what they do, they do very well. The tasting experience is awesome with inviting indoor and outdoor spaces, plus an on-site restaurant that makes it easy to linger and enjoy the food, wine and the setting. The main reason I came back was for their Pinot Noir, which I've loved in the past--and it absolutely delivered again. If you find yourself in the Los Gatos area, make sure to add this winery to your itinerary. 9/8/24 Zach and I decided to try out Testarossa winery. We made a 4:15pm reservation and what's a plus is that they are dog friendly. Their parking lot wasn't full when we got there. After we located the entrance, we walked past the patio which looked really nice, but we were told that the outdoor seating os only for club members. Indoors is for both non-members and members, but you don't have anywhere to sit inside, only stand. Our wine connoisseur that day was Ayisha and she was very friendly and helpful. Over 15 years I've been here countless times, as a member, a guest of a member, for corporate events, and special occasions. An underrated local gem. Testarossa is named after founder Rob Jensen who got the "red head" nickname while studying in Italy during college. It started in 1993 and moved into the former Novitiate Winery in 1997 which originally built in 1888, making it one of the oldest continually operating wineries in the US. Rob and everyone I've interacted with has been very nice and highly knowledgeable. They make you feel at ease, even if wine you don't know much about wine. Speaking of which, Testarossa is known for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. I don't drink much white but can vouch for Diana's Chardonnay. On a recent visit, I enjoyed the following: 2021 Niclaire Pinot Noir, 2021 Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir, and 2021 Fogstone Vineyard Pinot Noir. The Fogstone has lots of interesting flavors which are more apparent if you air it for a while. Hang out in the tasting room, the private dining room, or on the deck. All nice experiences. read more

Located in the Los Gatos/Santa Cruz hills is this winery. I either forgot or just never noticed. You need to muster through downtown LG to get here. Parking is all over, kind of like at Villa Montalvo. It's next to the Jesuit care facility. I was told that this winery used to be the wine made for Catholic mass, I don't know if it still is? My friend put together a Galentine's meetup. We sat outside and had appetizers, shared two bottles of wine. It was very nice. Second part, my friend made reservations for wine tasting inside what I call the cave. This is the part I remove stars. You need a reservation in order to wine taste. Staff were rude at first about where we were placed for our tasting. Testarossa will waive your fee if you purchase a wine club membership. In the old days of wineries, if you purchased one bottle, your tasting fee was waived. Last issue was I didn't want to wine taste after sitting outside in the sun earlier. I asked for a small glass of wine that I would pay for. That almost took heaven and earth to get. Felt like I was breaking the law. Walkaway of this place, go here to enjoy the outdoor dining. It's less of a headache than the wine tasting is. Remember to make a reservation. No matter what, this place is beautiful! That's where I give it a pass. We were in California and specifically stayed in Los Gatos so we could visit Testarossa. We had a great time at this beautiful venue. We signed up for a wine tasting, and really enjoyed it. The person pouring did a great job walking us through the wines, and was super kind to switch out some Chardonnays for Pinot noirs since I'm more of a Pinot girl. Something to note is they only have Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We ended up signing up for the wine club and look forward to enjoying more Testarossa wines in the future! read more

I've had a membership here for about 2 years and really enjoy the perks that it offers. You get free wine tasting 363 days of the year and can also bring guests with you for a free tasting. This tasting entails 5 pours of wine and usually revisiting a pour you enjoyed most. They take indoor and outdoor reservations (outdoor is only for members). Indoor reservations are only standing (unless you need an accommodation). Inside is always temperature controlled and served pretty quickly, even when it's busy. Outdoor is very nice as well, service can be a little slower but definitely more comfortable for me since we could sit down. They have a restaurant on property which is also decent and a great place to be able to try wines with food. read more

Our group of nine had a reservation at Testa Rosa Winery, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. We were served by Diane, who was consistently short, dismissive, and rushed with our entire group. From the moment we arrived, it felt like she wanted us out the door. We asked multiple times for crackers to accompany our wine tastings, and instead of simply bringing them, she told us we could "just eat over at the bistro." After asking again, she finally brought one tray--despite us clearly requesting two. She also told us she had arranged a table for us at the bistro after pushing us out of the tasting room, but when we arrived, the bistro staff had no idea about any reservation. Thankfully, they were kind enough to accommodate us, but it certainly wasn't because of her. The tasting itself was equally frustrating. Diane didn't take any time to explain the wines, rushed between pours, and brought the next wine before several of us had even tasted the one in front of us. It felt like a constant push to finish quickly and leave, instead of an enjoyable, guided tasting experience. What made this even more disappointing is that our group is made up of married couples who regularly plan outings, tastings, and events together. We support local wineries often -- but after this experience, we will never return with our couples group. The tone, behavior, and lack of hospitality made us feel unwelcome, and it cast a shadow over what should have been a relaxing afternoon. Most of our group are people of color, and the energy from her made it feel very much like we weren't wanted in that space. Whether intentional or not, her attitude made the entire visit uncomfortable. To top it off, we were forced to pay gratuity for service that was genuinely poor. This was not the level of service or respect anyone should experience at a winery -- especially one that prides itself on hospitality. We will not be back. read more

I was here a few weeks ago for a friend's bachelorette, with a group of 7. My friend made reservations for the wine tasting and for some time on the patio by the wine bar. The tasting was an ok experience for me. You can choose between the regular tasting ($25) or the premium ($45). The majority of our group opted for the regular tasting since we're not big wine drinkers, but it felt like the person serving us was a little judgy about it. She mentioned a few times that the premium wines were "much better" than the regular ones, as if that wasn't obvious from the naming, and seemed more enthusiastic about serving and describing those wines to the friends that chose a premium tasting vs the regular. She also brought up their membership a few times, not in a rude way or anything, but it was still a little annoying when I was trying to focus on the wine and my friends. It also felt a bit cramped in there since we were all standing by the bar next to other groups, with very little room in between. This made it hard to talk to anyone that wasn't standing directly next to me. I would have preferred if there was some kind of seating or a smaller limit on reservations so that groups could be spaced out. We ended up buying a bottle of red wine from the premium tasting menu to bring out onto the wine bar patio with us. Our experience out here was great, especially compared to the awkward tasting. We sat at a small circle of benches, which was perfect for group conversations since we could all face each other. Our server was super nice, and even let us know that there was no pressure to leave by the end of our reserved time slot since there was enough empty seating for other parties. We ordered the cheese plate and really enjoyed it. Our red wine choice (Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir) was pretty good, and after finishing it we ordered a bottle of white wine (Rincon Vineyard Chardonnay) which I enjoyed as well. I will say that I'm not a big wine drinker so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I would come back with friends to grab a glass of wine and a charcuterie board, but I probably wouldn't do the tasting again. I've really come to love this winery... so much so that I joined the wine club! The wines are very enjoyable and immediately drinkable. I'm a fan of pinot, so it works well for me. I appreciate that they offer so many options on the wine club. You can kind of do as much or as little as you want and can tailor to your particular liking. For example, I do reds only and when I got a bit backed up on wines at home, I was able to scale back to smaller shipments for a bit. They're very accommodating. As for visiting the winery, it's always a great time! We love being able to sit outside to enjoy some beautiful wines in the summer. I recently took some friends from out of state to do a tasting in the main room and they loved it. Everyone who works there is just so nice and welcoming, and they are excellent at sharing their knowledge about the wines. A great place to visit! read more

Visited for the first time a few weeks ago. I can't believe I never visited before despite being an SJ native! Tasting: Fun for a local wine tasting experience, but the tasting room was full of gnats and old/dirty. I would probably skip the tasting next time and just hangout at their wine bar. The state of the tasting room does make me wonder just how clean the wine processing area is, and how many gnats get processed into the wine.... The lady guiding our tasting was friendly and knowledgeable on all their wine offerings, and shared with us the history of the winery. The wine bar: Spacious outdoor patio with wine available by the glass or bottle. We opted for a glass of our favorite from the tasting and shared a charcuterie board. Incredible tasting and experience at Testarossa this last week again. We were in town visiting family and it is obvious why our brother and his wife are such loyal customers of Testarossa. This "winery" is 3 operations in one location. A wine bar, a restaurant, and a tasting room. We visited the restaurant and the tasting room. Unlike other "winery restaurants", Bistro 107 does not offer wine pairing with its foods. The wine list, of course, featured their own wines and they are on the expensive side. Pinot Noir, the only red wine varietal, are all more than $100 for non-members. We had 2017 Rincon and that was very delicious. The foods, however, were on the meh side. Considering the average price was about $30. It was a bit disappointed not being able to sample the wines. We must make a reservation to the tasting room on the spot. Good thing a slot was available. While that's a bit awkward, we went. Only to find out non-members were "standing only." We couldn't lounged outside to enjoy the good weather. Sigh... There were two options: classic ($25) and the other ($45). Both started with 2 same Chardonnays. The classic had 2 more minor and the other 3 (different pinot). The server was knowledgeable, friendly, and instructive. At the end, we chose not to join the club or buy any wine. If you were into wine tasting, come for that. As a restaurant, it is not a bad experience, only not quite matching the prices. read more

I see the winery asking for more info on this- to help out, I attended a private party where guests were celebrating with a dinner. Minimal drinking (so not being rowdy at all!)and normal socializing. Almost every group reported how rude the waitstaff and staff in general was. Even after we (the guests) went above and beyond to be polite and all genuinely wondering what we did to upset everyone. it was like folks were angry about working there and taking it out on the guests that evening. we asked for things such as a second serving of food in our buffet "no! There isn't enough!" Could we try this wine during wine tasting? "No that's special wine and not for you." It's really Cold would it be possible to get a space heater? We stopped here while driving down from San Francisco to San Jose. We didn't have a wine tasting pre-booked and they couldn't accommodate us for a tasting last minute since it was a Saturday and they were hosting a wedding (which is understandable). They do have a separate outdoor space for those who want to just a glass or two of wine and munch on some snacks. We opted for this and really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. This place is chill! If you are in Los Gatos for a brunch/lunch, it's convenient to stop by here for an easy afternoon with some wine and charcuterie board at the patio, under the shades of nice looking trees. So let's make it clear, there are two separate areas for wine tasting and Bistro 107 where you can buy wines by bottle or glass plus ordering some snack foods, but there's no wine tasting service at the Bistro. The funky thing about their space for wine tasting is that the beautiful outdoor space is only reserved for wine club members. If you are not a member, you can only do wine tasting indoors. Well, my opinion is that you just limit yourself from encouraging people to become members. Yesterday was my first time there, if I haven't tried their wine yet, it would be challenging for me to become a member be able to sit at their beautiful patio space designated for wine tasting for their club members. Now to the wine, I'm not loving it. The pinot isn't smooth enough for me, and after you drink it, no noticeable flavors/fragrance is left for me to ponder. And to the food, they only have 3-4 different charcuterie boards and burrata salad, that's it! It's a showing on their board that there will be more food options at the Bistro available this summer, but we are halfway through summer and it's still not available. I will say food option is there we point plus the quality is just an A-OK. I still give it a 4 star because the ambiance of the bistro patio is super nice and beautiful to hang out with loved ones. read more

Went here for my birthday for a wine tasting and it was amazing! The place was as easy to find and the vibes were so cute and quaint that it did not feel like we were Los Gatos. For the price, the wine selection was very tasty and the staff member was great in explaining the wine and its notes. We went to check out the winery having lived in Los Gatos for 2 years and being about 2 miles away. It's an easy drive from Los Gatos downtown. We live in the area so it's very normal views for us. The first day we went in Missy helped us and she was nice, explained everything well, had a personality and must importantly did not push us hard to do anything. We became members. Went back and were helped by Diane. Wow, the push to buy became so strong even though we were already members ( they have 2 tiers ). It was uncomfortable. We left quickly as we were there to hang out not be sold to non stop. Ready to write it off, we went back and were helped by Missy again. Back to chill and calm no high pressure sales tactics. The wine here is nice, we are bigger fans of red , the Pinots are flavorful and the import Cab is nice too. Lesson look for missy if you go up here. read more

Recently visited with my husband and mother for a fun outing after a friend recommended this place to me. It's tucked away, but very close to downtown LG at the same time. I booked a reservation for tasting online, and the process was extremely streamlined from start to finish. I got a text reminder a few days beforehand, and I didn't have to pay until the tasting concluded. As a plus, there's also lots of parking in an actual parking lot. During the tasting, we tasted five wines. My favorite was a one with notes of watermelon, which was a really unique offering. Tasting is fine inside, but I'd like to try the wine bar outdoors next time (this doesn't require a membership, but outdoor tasting does it seems). Our sever Miguel was friendly, polite, informative, and not the least bit pushy. He told us dogs are even welcome to join next time. I'll definitely be back! read more
