My friend and I made reservations in advance for Palentine's date at VinoVero on Valentine's Day. Although they didn't have a prix fixe menu for the occasion, we expected it to be busy because of the holiday. RESERVATIONS The restaurant was called ahead of time, and a reservation was confirmed. INTERIOR It is a very cozy and small wine bar and restaurant. Wooden tables and bar seating are available. There are several outdoor tables out front, equipped with space heaters. SERVICE There were two servers, one of whom was the owner. They were very nice gentlemen who greeted us upon entering and checked on us throughout the entire dining experience. The customer service was exceptional! FOOD & DRINKS VinoVero provided a good selection of wine, and to celebrate our friendship, we both chose a delicious glass of rosé. Unlike the usual sweeter varieties, this rosé was pleasantly dry. The server was thoughtful enough to bring us the bottle and share insights about the wine, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The food was served fresh, with everything made in-house. We ordered several "For the Table" plates to share, and they were fantastic. As we were waiting for our order, the server brought out an amuse-bouche courtesy of the kitchen. I forget what it was exactly, but it was a mini soup of sort. Such a lovely little wine bar in downtown Los Gatos! I came here on a Saturday evening with my partner for a birthday dinner. We didn't have a reservation but luckily there was plenty of seating available when we got there. We decided to get some food to pair with our wine: - Focaccia (4/5): Their focaccia is thicccckkkk! It has a bit of a fried texture to it as well, which I've never seen with focaccia. It is only seasoned with salt and I do wish that it had some more spices to it, but it's good if you want to pair it with other dishes, like the meatballs. - Meatballs (4/5): Can't really go wrong with a classic. It's basically spaghetti and meatballs without the noodles. - Focaccia Salad (5/5): This honestly shocked me. The focaccia works well as if they were croutons. The salad is simple yet flavorful with the ingredients and dressing. - Argula and Proscuitto Pizza (4/5): A classic combination. The portion is huge and great for sharing. The owner was nice and gave us some good suggestions for white and red wines. He also gave us meringue on the house to celebrate my birthday, which were good! We also got some tiramisu, which we at first felt bad for ordering because we weren't sure if the kitchen was closed, but the owner let us order it. The reservation system is straightforward and he's able to accommodate you on time. All of the food was quite good, portions not huge, but you get a great variety and leave pretty full at the end of it. The decor inside is amazing and full of ultra high end wooden wine boxes that he's collected over the years. I took off one star because for dessert he told us to just "trust him" and he proceeded to pour us a very small splash of Amaro and brought over a tiramisu and the banana dessert as well. We found out later that he wanted $10/glass for the splash of Amaro and overcharged for the desserts as well. It was like the size of a sip, nowhere close to the size of an actual proper portion, so we called him over and kindly asked for the charge to be reconsidered. He promptly removed the charge without arguing. It was really a shame that the night had to end this way as he was really hitting on all cylinders before that and I was pretty impressed that we had a proper Venetian cicchetti place so close to home. It was a strong 5 star in my mind up until the last stunt, and I still think all of the food was excellent but would request that he be more upfront about certain things and show a little more hospitality instead of trying to nickel and dime guests. My friends and I had a wonderful dining experience at VinoVero last night. All of the food was outstanding and each of us were impressed by the quality. We felt like we were transported to a quaint Italian countryside eatery! The owner was very good at making recommendations, but we did worry when he grabbed our menus strait away and said that we should trust him on what to serve! ;) Our party ended up really enjoying this as it was a unique experience and we are adventurous eaters, but I would caution some may not like being out of control with the choices. He was very kind to make sure everything was good and kept checking to see if we had preferences after what was initially served, (which was thoughtful). I will also say that the restaurant is very small. There was the owner and one other server. So I would say dine on a night when no one in the party has a time constraint. This is more European style and the meal didn't feel rushed. We really savored and relished each dish that came. I also made the reservation over a week in advance to allow time for them to prep and have space for us. We were treated to amuse bouche (a wonderful cauliflower soup) which elevated the experience. The owner advised on a very tasty red blend and champagne. We all enjoyed the 2 bottles. We were informed the salads were farm to table from a local Saratoga farmer. The quality was amazing and the salad was so pretty; it had tasty yellow flowers in it! I wish I had gotten a picture of these. The focaccia bread was a real treat! I think I ate 4 big squares to myself (oops)! It is clearly baked fresh and some of the best bread ever. We enjoyed the buffalo mozzarella with it and the remnants of the meatball sauce. The pickled vegetables, olives, and artichoke hearts were amazing too. The last surprise were the desserts. We enjoyed chocolate lava cake with mandarins, apple tart cakes, and cute tiramisus in ramekins. All of them were fabulous and top quality. My friend and I wanted to try something different, so we decided to go to a wine bar and partake of a charcuterie board and a few glasses of vino. Vino Vera is a cute little wine bar in Los Gatos. The inside seats less than thirty people but they do have seating outside as well. We called ahead of time to see if we needed reservations, and we were directed to their website and email. We had to send an email making the request which I thought was archaic, but we received a prompt response back which acknowledged and accepted our request. To me, making reservations this way takes more time on the customer's end; reserving by phone or using Open Table or Yelp is much more convenient. But anyhow, we got in. The bartender was very informative and let us know our options. He was also very attentive during our stay. We opted for "Chef's Choice" where the chef chose three cheeses and three meats based on what wine you were drinking. When we received our order, I was a little disappointed as I expected the presentation to be a little more fancy, but the cheese and meats were a nice choice that paired with our wine. We stayed for a long minute, so we ordered a pizza. It wasn't packed with flavor; in fact, it didn't have much taste, but it looked wonderful on the plate. We had a nice little outing, and we spent a pretty penny. If I lived in the area, I'd probably visit here, but since I don't I'll be looking for someplace with more pizzazz. read more

Our first visit at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon went a bit bumpy. There were only 3 other people there and they had already been served so the owner had lots of time to talk at us. My girlfriend and I wanted soak in the experience and look over the wine menu but the owner was checking on us every minute so we didnt feel relaxed. My employer hosted a dinner at the restaurant on a Monday night. The place is usually closed on Mondays but Sarah was very happy to accommodate our needs and opened up for us a private event. Michael was an excellent host and made everyone feel welcome. The place is quaint and comfortable and the weather was perfect for outdoors. The Vinovero salad, short ribs with polenta, and focaccia bread were some of my favorites. Everything from beginning to end was delicious and we could not get enough. I stumbled upon this place tonight as I was having an evening walk with a friend and decided to give it a try, thinking it was just a wine bar but it had so many surprisingly delicious items on the menu. It's honestly been a long time since I've been wowed at a restaurant unfortunately, but I have to say tonight that completely changed. Not only was the food so delicious and authentic but the service was even friendlier which really makes it even better. Fantastic addition to the LG downtown scene. They just competed their 3 month anniversary and I wish them many many more. It was late on a Friday evening and we made an impromptu decision to stop off and get a drink and a snack. I was in flip flops and shorts and had a little initial hesitation looking at the other well dressed customers. However, the big smile and welcome from the staff made me get past that. My initial thought was that this was a a wine bar as the name suggests and that the food was likely an afterthought and would not be that good especially given the small menu. Boy was I wrong. The caprese sandwich on the house made focaccia bread was divine and I snorted it down. The chocolate walnut for dessert was beautifully presented, delicate and delicious. Found this place randomly on Yelp, called at 4:30p on a Sat afternoon to make an impromptu dinner reso for 2 ppl at 6p. The owner answered the phone and welcomed us. When we arrived, the bartender/server gave us a choice for where to sit and we chose the bar inside and really enjoyed our time there! Here's what we ordered: SNACKS CARCIOFI 7 Grilled artichoke - this somehow got missed in our initial order and I checked on it after all the other starts had already been served. I would've liked to have it in the beginning of the meal, it's served cold but it was still doable to take home since it was served cold anyway. CHEF'S CHOICE BOARD 50 Cheese & charcuterie duo (3 cheeses, 3 meats) - we left it to our server to put something together for us, and were very happy! for the cheeses, it included the Ciok (cow) cheese but I don't remember the rest. everything was imported from Italy and I didn't recognize any of the names as they weren't typically found in our usual grocery stores. - I can't remember which other meats we had besides the Prosciutto di Parma, but I was so surprised as it was the best Prosciutto di Parma I've ever tasted Stateside. Apparently, this one is hard to get as US import laws are strict and this one is aged right up to the legal limit. it was so smooth, not overly salty or sinewy at all like it can be w mass production. - the little accompaniments were so good! I think the honey was local, and the orange jam homemade. there was an artichoke spread which I think the owner said was local from Santa Cruz. they make their seed crackers in house and they were perfect! FOR THE TABLE TUNA TARTARE 25 Yellowfin tuna, strawberry, Pizzuta almond, EVOO - small portion but incredibly fresh; the owner told us the fish had just arrived the day before. the fruit accompaniment was so good and light so that you could really taste the freshness of the fish. BURRATA 18 organic burrata, roasted organic cherry tomatoes, pesto alla genovese, taggiasca olives, seeds crackers - perfection. the pesto + extra virgin olive oil combined was so decadent! VINOVERO SALAD 18 Heirloom Farm Spring lettuce, prosciutto crumble, soft boil egg, lemon radish, capers dressing, focaccia crostini - there was a ton of different kinds of vegetation in this salad, the dressing was very light and not at all overpowering (thank goodness, as is common in American restaurants) and the soft boiled egg was perfect. this was a great dish to follow the cheese & charcuterie board, and a good size for sharing. - the olives were the best, I enjoyed every single one. not too salty, really delicious! This place is awesome, everything we had was top notch - The olives, burrata ... the focaccia was like fluffy clouds from heaven, as was the pizza crust. The owner is also a really fun guy and will explain drinks and menu items to you to help you decide what you're really in the mood for. You can tell he puts a ton of thought and care into everything. Great atmosphere and nice outdoor seating as well. In the end we weren't sure if we were too full for dessert and I asked him if they do to-go items, i.e. could I order the tiramisu to go? He said they don't do to-go there which I totally get as it doesn't keep as well, so I said we'd try it next time. But then he ended up giving it to us on the house anyway, and it was amazing! The reviews are no joke, Michele is probably one of the most welcoming and talented restaurant owners of the South Bay Area. He greets you with warmth and has a lot of fun with his guests. It's such a welcome change from what many of the restaurants have turned into (transactional.) Really reminds me of those neighborhood restaurants tucked away in the smaller towns in Italy. Michele starts us off with a wonderful complimentary palette cleanser and is a pro at suggesting accompanying wines, just let him run with it. We had a wonderful chef suggested charcuterie board, their octopus, meatballs, salad, and a wonderful burrata. Wow, all of it was excellent. We topped it off with a dessert trio of crema-cotta, tiramisu, and a hazel chocolate bar. Don't forget their espresso, some of the best roast I've had in a while. Take your time, Michele doesn't try and rush you through, it's relaxing. Michele said he was going to change the menu in the coming weeks, and can't wait to re-visit to try out his new offerings. It's a small place, if you're not into having fun with Michele and conversations with other adult patrons, this isn't the place for you.
