My husband and I had our wedding anniversary dinner at Dio Deka, and we had a lovely time. Everything about our experience was superb. Dinner was romantic, food was excellent, the wait staff took really good care of us. When I found Dio Deka I thought I had discovered a new restaurant, but I was surprised to find that the place was well established over 22 years. The place felt more like a traditional steakhouse, which I was later told was indeed a former one. We immediately were welcomed by friendly staff members and a "Happy Anniversary" card at our table. I noticed that the many tables were recognized by special occasions, which was thoughtful. Our table was in an intimate corner next the fireplace. The fireplace was not lit since it was a warm Spring day. That said, I could see our table being a highly requested one during colder days. Overall service was top notch. Food came out in a timely manner. I never felt that we had long gaps between dishes. Our waiter was awesome. Don't remember his name, but he was a young gentleman who was friendly, attentive, and helpful with food recommendations. One of the managers stopped by, and he also was very hospitable. I enjoyed everything I ate... They kicked us off with avocado pistachio jalapeno mousse amuses-bouches. We got spanikotiropita and the Horiatiki "Village Salad" to share. I liked that the spanikotiropitas were small bite sizes, and the phyllo dough was so crispy. Their horiatiki was what I expected in a classic Greek salad, but the fresh feta and crisp veggies made it a notch above the rest. It was addictive, and I could eat plates of it. We hit home runs with the entrees: moussaka and the lamb shank. I am a huge fan of moussaka and thought that Dio Deka's was delicious. I also liked how they built the moussaka layers in a cast iron dish, which kept the moussaka warm and gooey with every bite. The lamb was tender and fell off the bone, and it sat on perfectly cooked al dente pastina. I wish I had room for dessert, but we were treated with chocolate mousse mignardises. read more

Dio Deca is a beautiful restaurant within a beautiful hotel in downtown Los Gatos across the street from the high school. The bar is busy and loud, but the outdoor patio is absolutely charming. The waiters and the patrons behaved elegantly. There is no rushing, dining is at a leisurely pace here which is nice. Dio Deka features Greek food and it is pricey. My moussaka was good, but not great. It could not hold a candle to the moussaka served in Greek town in Chicago. I don't know why. The chef definitely skimped on the béchamel and the meat had some unusual flavoring. My husband's pork chop was a bit dry but the apple sauce compensated a bit. The lamb chops served at our table were well received as were the steaks. The big disappointment was the dessert. It was very bland creme caramel and most of it remained uneaten at our table of seven adults. So, the elegance is incomparable, and the setting is romantic. If you're looking for an upscale Greek restaurant, Dio Deka is the only place I would suggest in the Bay Area. I've been coming here with my husband's family for years, and they never disappoint. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and quick. We typically order all of our food family style, with an array of options. My favorites are their tzatziki and tirokafteri with warm pita, horiatiki salad, lamb chops, and New York strip. If you have room for dessert, you should definitely try their loukoumades, or Greek donuts. They come out warm covered in honey and nuts, and are the perfect way to end the meal. read more

In the last year, my husband and I have been here 4 or 5 times and it does not disappoint. The food, service and ambiance is always *chef's kiss*. Call us basic but we always start with the tzatziki and pita bread. Nobody does tzatziki better than Dio Deka. During our last visit, we also shared horiatiki village salad which is essentially a Greek salad. As for entrees, my hubs enjoyed the wagyu short ribs and I had the scallops. Both were very delicious. Finished off the meal with the most decadent baklava cheesecake. We've tried a couple of desserts on their menu but the baklava cheesecake is definitely our favorite. This place is the ultimate date night spot to go to with your significant other. Our waiter was super friendly and very informative about the wine and food menu. My husband ordered the filet and it was cooked perfectly. I ordered the scallops with risotto and the flavor was incredible. We split the seafood pasta and while it was good, it wasn't nearly as incredible as our personal dishes we ordered. Their homemade tiziki was light and fresh and complimented their homemade bread. Dio Deka is located in a lovely, safe, lively but quiet, neighborhood. From the moment we stepped in the doors to the moment we stepped out, we were greeted with courtesy and perfect service. The staff was quick, knowledgeable, friendly, and very attentive to when our water was low of if we needed a new napkin or silverware. They took extra care to bring a decanter for our bottle of wine, then they poured our wine and even gave us new glasses when we had a second different bottle. It's the little details that really make their quality of service stand out. The ambience is wonderful! Beautiful decorations that give a warm, upper class homey feel. The touch of having a fireplace inside brings out the romance. To top it off, the food is fabulous! Our party enjoyed the: octopus appetizer-cooked perfectly, lobster fettuccine-flavors were delectable, rib eye steak-seasoned well and cooked to perfection, seafood risotto- wonderful flavors and fresh seafood, pork chop- large and juicy and paired well with a slightly sweet topping Branzino- the fish was moist with a slight crisp, and the potatoes were perfectly cooked. I've been meaning to try this place for awhile. As a Greek, I pride myself to try the many different authentic Greek restaurants in the area. So when hubby suggested to go on a date night, I knew just where I wanted to go. I'd give this place 3.5 stars out of 5. This restaurant is tucked away from the busy downtown of Los Gatos. It's actually a restaurant part of a hotel. So if you aren't staying at the hotel, you have to park on the street. We didn't have any trouble finding street parking but you do get the sense that you are in a hotel ambiance. One of the highlights is walking into the entrance and seeing the beautiful fountain! We were immediately greeted and seated. The ambiance I'd say was decent. They have Greek music playing but the lighting could have been better. Now for the food. I had reviewed the recommendations from previous yelpers so I had an idea what to order. The main tip is yes, definitely order the Greek dishes as that is their specialty! For appetizers, we had the fried zucchini and the saganaki. Now the Saganaki is typically served flambé but they actually took a different spin to their saganaki. They serve it more sweeter, drizzled with honey. Apparently that's how the owners grandmother used to make it so I thought that was a nice touch. It was interesting for a saganaki though as I was used to more savory! The main meals were delicious. I had the lobster pasta and the sauce and the lobster melted in your mouth. It was also a generous portion which I appreciated. Hubby had the lamb shanks that were also tasty. The one thing to note about the meals is that you order the main dish (like lobster pasta or lamb shank) and you have to order the sides seperately (the potatoes, veggies, etc). I thought that was a little weird and not to mention it was costly for the amount as well. This is not very typical in Greece so I didn't think that part was that authentic. For dessert we had the baklava although at that point we were both ready to be rolled out of the restaurant because we were so full! The service was also pretty attentive and friendly. Overall I thought it was a nice place and we had a lovely time but I don't think I will be back. It doesn't compare to the caliber of the other Greek restaurants in Palo Alto that we go often to. You definitely feel like you are part of a hotel, not just its separate restaurant. Full disclosure, it was a tad forgettable in that sense, and the fact we had to order sides as extra kind of turned me off. However I am still glad I tried it. I'd recommend coming here for a date night to try it out for yourself! Just be prepared to pay extra for sides, feel as if it's part of a hotel and have it be semi-Greek authentic. We visited Dio Deka for the first time last night and were thoroughly impressed by the hospitality. Our server, Athos, was a total star. Since it was our first time, we leaned on his guidance for the menu, and he didn't disappoint. The entire service staff was excellent--always present when needed but never intrusive, creating a perfectly paced evening. The food was largely outstanding. The Syllogi spreads were a great introduction, and the Youvetsi (lamb shank) was truly excellent. However, we did run into one issue: the lamb chops were tough and overcooked. It was a bit of a letdown because you expect a premier Greek restaurant to have mastered the lamb chops, especially when the other lamb dish was so well-executed. That said, the Branzino and Moussaka were delicious, and the desserts (Mille-feuille and Tiramisu) finished the night on a high note. We loved the experience and the wonderful staff, but we really hope the kitchen can find more consistency with the grilled lamb. read more

Went to Dio Deka for my second time and I was absolutely blown away by the food and the service. We were there as a group of 12 to celebrate a birthday dinner; we were warmly greeted and had the most amazing server, Athos, who gave perfect food recommendations and was so lively that his presence really brightened our already wonderful evening. The cocktail menu is a little short and not my style so Athos recommended a raspberry mojito and it was the best mojito I've had, such strong mint flavor! We ordered spanikopita, octopus, and carrot fritters as appetizers and all three were delicious. The char and flavor on the octopus was so good! I finally found an octopus to rival the one at Hero Ranch Kitchen :) I had the lobster pasta for my entree and the ekmek for dessert and both were full of flavor and unlike other dishes I've had before. Located in the upscale Hotel Los Gatos, Dio Deka is an elegant, high-end restaurant offering a chef-driven menu of Greek and Mediterranean-inspired flavors. We were started with a complimentary amuse bouche of tarts filled with a carrot purée, and then came the appetizers. The Sillogi came with thick, grilled housemade pita bread along with a trio of spreads: tzatziki, tirokafteri, and melitzanosalata. The Saganaki was a square of pan-seared cheese topped with jalapeño-raspberry jam and crushed hazelnuts; the Oktapodi was a whole grilled octopus tentacle; the Soutzoukakia were lamb and beef meatballs served with tomato sauce and yogurt; and the Horiatiki was a Greek salad of cucumber, tomato, red onion, peppers, olives, and a block of Dodoni feta. All the appetizers were tasty (and on the small side), but the entrees were the standout dishes. Our server informed us that their two best-known entrees were the Branzino (Lavraki), two grilled fillets served over fasolakia lathera (green beans stewed with tomatoes) and roasted potatoes; and the double cut lamb chops, which had a perfectly grilled, crispy exterior and deliciously juicy interior. But whereas at Evvia everything is fresh, flavor, and delicious, at Dio Deka the food is mediocre. But let me start with the positive: Very nice location and ambience. Generally good service. Now, the food: Spanakopita was cold and not flaky. Lamb chops were not juicy and flavorful. Good fish (got the branzino). Good Greek salad. Greek yogurt we got for dessert had a weird texture. Didn't even finish it, or the lamb chops, and I usually lick every last morsel. Wouldn't go back. It's not any cheaper than Evvia, so if it's fine "Hellenic" cuisine you're after, save your money and go to Palo Alto. Our dining experience was so delightful, I'm glad we made the choice to give Dio Deka a try. This restaurant is on the same property as the Hotel Los Gatos, located in downtown Los Gatos. Put thoughts of a tired hotel dining establishment out of your mind as this is such a sweet spot. The restaurant has plenty of space, really nice decor and a wonderful seating plan. They try and get maximum table space inside the restaurant, but it didn't feel too crowded. The waitstaff worked together wonderfully. Our waiter was polite and knowledgeable, and the food runners kept our meal running seamlessly as we went through courses by clearing and resetting our table. Our meals were delicious. The flavoring and preparation of the food items were thoughtfully and skillfully chosen to elevate the taste experience. They offered several courses and quite a few options for each course. WOW-talk about well-deserved, palatable Michelin star! tldr; Steep prices but unbeatable food. Special occasions or dates, Dio Deka wins on service and food. Ambience is great but lighting is dim heh. We came here for our anniversary and absolutely loved it. It's hard to feel good about indulging at the hefty price points but it was 100% WORTH IT. The service from hostesses and waiters are hard to match. The atmosphere is always bubbly and has a very nice ambience here. Warning though for anyone who may be light-impaired: the lighting is pretty dim and we saw many people pull out their phone flashlights to read the menus. THE FOOD: The Branzino fish is easily one of the more affordable, yet delicious items. It has a flaky skin with super soft meat and is plated nicely with some veggies. The Okatpodi is a grilled leg of octopus that (despite not usually being a fan of octo/squid), I enjoyed. The outside has a nice crust put on it but the inside meat is cooked to just the right texture of chewy melded with soft. Flavor is all there, try it! Lamb Chops! I was hesitant when I saw the $84 price point for 3 chops, but I caved considering the special occasion. I got mine medium rare but would swap for medium next time (I like steaks close to rare for context). Lamb flavor was amazing and not overpowering, the meat melts in your mouth once you manage to carve it up. Would get again, but medium! Beignets (Loukamathes) These are huge beignet donuts covered in a bath of honey and sprinkled with some nuts. Any beignet lover will find these awesome, but my SO wasn't as much a fan haha. Planning a party for more than 10 people seems like planning a wedding. We ended up with 21. The team at Dio Deka kept me on task. The food was brought out on time and hot. We did not have a full bar and we brought our own wine. The corkage is a bit high. The weather cooperated as we were out on a patio for drinks and appetizers. We chose the plated option and all entrees were perfect. Portions were large. To-go boxes were available especially for the baklava which were very large slices. We got lots of dishes and everything was amazing but some highlights were the octopus and saganaki appetizers, the lobster pasta and scallop entrees, and the Greek yoghurt dessert. That octopus was hands down the best ive ever had. It was incredibly tender, not fishy or rubbery at all, and had a delicious grilled crust. Appalling Experience - RUINED Mother's Day and Tried to Scam Us I don't write reviews often, but this place absolutely deserves to be called out. We went here on Mother's Day hoping for a special evening -- what we got was a stressful, insulting, and downright shady experience. First, we waited nearly an hour for food that never arrived. Meanwhile, other tables that ordered after us were served the exact same dishes. When we finally asked what was going on, the staff told us they had "given our food to someone else" within two minutes -- a ridiculous and insulting excuse. No accountability, no offer to make it right, nothing but indifference and a complete lack of professionalism. But that's not even the worst part. We ordered a full bottle of wine, which they poured very sparingly -- a few drops at a time -- into our glasses. When we questioned what happened to the rest of the wine, we were told we had "enjoyed the full bottle" and that it was empty. Only after we insisted did they bring it back -- and surprise: it was still HALF FULL. So not only did they completely ruin our meal, they were also blatantly trying to scam us out of wine we had paid for. I am still in disbelief. This wasn't just bad service -- it felt deliberately deceptive and completely disrespectful. They ruined a day that meant the world to us and treated us like we didn't matter. If you care even slightly about being treated with dignity, do not step foot in this place. It was a shameful, miserable experience from start to finish. read more

When we were in San Jose area meeting up with friends, we picked Dio Deka in Los Gatos for our gathering. We had a reservation but we weren't seated until everyone got there. We were sharing appetizers so we ordered bunch of them, but we got our own main courses. For appetizers, we got riblets, spakanotiropita, and octopus. We also got a hummus tomato compliment treat. For our main courses we picked the whole fish and branzino. While all of the appetizers were a hit, we love the riblets the most. Branzino was really good, but it couldn't beat the whole fish. The whole fish was meaty and seasoned just right. Very enjoyable dishes. The only thing lacking during our dining experience was the service. For some strange reasons, after we ordered the appetizers, no one came back to take our orders for the main courses. To a point that the table was filled with appetizers so Fatty had like 7 menus on the lap. We ended up having appetizers with menus on the lap, a quiet difficult task to do but good strength training at the same time. Our orders were finally taken after we finished the appetizers while Fatty crying for staff's help to get the menu off. Our water was always empty and we had to flag staff to fill our empty glasses the entire night, but they never had any issues coming back to try to get us purchasing more alcoholic drinks. So... just that experience alone, we were glad we tried the restaurant, but probably wouldn't return again. However, we would recommend to try it though. read more

Absolutely Disgraceful: Dio Deka Ruined Our Mother's Day I have never in my life written a review like this, but our experience at Dio Deka tonight demands it. What was supposed to be a meaningful, joyful Mother's Day dinner for my wife and child turned into a humiliating, infuriating disaster -- thanks to gross incompetence, negligence, and what felt like outright disregard for our presence. Our server, completely messed up the job. After bringing our appetizer order, we were left stranded for 45 minutes waiting for our entrées. Meanwhile, we watched multiple other tables -- who arrived at same time as us -- being served main courses and desserts. The same dishes we ordered were flying out of the kitchen while we sat ignored. Clearly, the server either lost our order, had it taken by another server, or simply lacked the basic skill to follow up. My 9-year-old was starving. It was well past his bedtime, and there was still no food in front of us. My wife -- whom I wanted to celebrate and honor -- was frustrated, angry, and deeply upset. The evening, which I had carefully planned based on a colleague's recommendation, became a complete embarrassment. We weren't just neglected. We were disrespected. Dio Deka failed us spectacularly on a day that mattered most. We had to leave without main course food. Think what I felt, this was suppose to be Mother's Day celebration.
