The lighting is perfect and they have small lamps at the table for those who may need a little more light to see their menus. Service is great. Walking in, on the left, is a small table/counter where they check you in if you've made a reservation (or not). This is my second time here and I have to say, service is consistent. They're attentive and will check in a good amount of times without being invasive to your dinner. The first time I was here, my friend ordered the lasagna and absolutely loved it. I had the pasta with truffles and pesto and I loved it so much I ordered it again. I will order something by else next time! I almost wrote a bad review. I brought my mom to Locanda Sorrento for her birthday, and unfortunately my entrée arrived about 20 minutes after hers. I was disappointed because what mattered most to me was sharing that dinner together. Instead of leaving angry, I spoke with the manager--an Italian woman who seemed to be doing everything at once. I explained why the evening meant so much to me. What happened next changed everything. As we were leaving, she brought my mom back inside. Ernesto and the staff came out with tiramisu and a candle and wished her a happy birthday. I wasn't expecting it, and I actually started to cry. Restaurants make mistakes. What matters is how they respond. That small act of kindness turned a disappointing night into a memory I'll keep for a long time. This place was fun! Incredible service, very quick and efficient. The servers are authentically Italian, and even sing happy birthday loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear in a traditional Italian way! Food was good, we did family style. The pizza bread was a little soggy and the cheese slid off with each bite, but great flavor. Loved the salad and calamari. Nice indoor and outdoor seating. Fun for groups and families. They also had a photographer come around and offer to take our pictures. They came back with the photos printed and framed, but they sold for $20 so we did not purchase. OF COURSE they make everything from scratch and import a number of ingredients from Italy. Hands down the best tiramisu outside of Italy, FABULOUS service from Juliana, and we were also entertained by another server who sang. Decided to come here due to the cheese bowl noodles. Well we went with something else and I should have stuck to my first instinct. I order the special thinking it was mussel and white sauce fettuccine but instead it was clams when I specifically asked if it was mussel and served said yes. When the dish came out I saw it was clams and I asked server to test him if he knew what the shell fish was and he didn't know. It was clams. And the sauce was off and salty. I love the lobster Ravioli ( filled with Maine lobster and asparagus) top with Tiger prawn in homemade orange sauce . We ordered: - Bruschetta: bread was too thick (like 2") for my taste but had good flavor. - Beet Salad: good portion and tasted good. - Gnocchi: delicious! Good portion and great flavor. To the owners and management of Locanda, My wife and I were treating family to a nice Sunday lunch. Shortly after we sat down, a woman approached our table with a camera and immediately started taking photos of us. She asked us to pose and even directed us into different poses. I didn't want to be rude, but I mentioned that we were hungry after spending the morning walking the farmers market and just wanted to enjoy our meal. At one point I stepped away to use the restroom. When I returned, I noticed two framed photos sitting on our table. My wife told me the photographer had been quite persistent, and feeling put on the spot, she purchased them. Had I been at the table, I would have politely declined. Our lunch bill was already over $200, and we ended up spending an additional $50 on photos we never intended to buy. It wasn't about the money, it was the sales tactic. Creating an awkward situation where customers feel pressured into making a purchase is not something I expect from a restaurant like Locanda. I understand that restaurants are always looking for additional revenue, but this approach left a very bad impression. Locanda has been one of our local favorites, which made this experience even more disappointing. If the goal was to make loyal customers think twice about returning, this accomplished exactly that. I sincerely hope management reconsiders allowing this practice. Guests should be able to enjoy a meal with family and friends without feeling pressured into buying something they never asked for. read more

We came here on Friday, September 11th to celebrate my friend's birthday. The food overall was very good, and we enjoyed the other dishes we ordered. Unfortunately, one server's attitude really affected what was supposed to be a special evening. We ordered several appetizers, including a fries dish that was extremely soft and soggy. My friend politely asked if we could return it because we didn't enjoy the texture. Instead of simply handling the request, our server kept questioning her: "What's wrong with it?" "Is it too soft?" "Too salty?" while making unnecessary comments in a joking, sarcastic manner. My friend politely explained several times that the fries were simply too soft. Eventually, she said, "Just take it off the bill. We don't want another one." His response was, "Refund to who?" Seriously? The comment and his overall attitude were unnecessary and unprofessional. There's a difference between being friendly and playful with customers and being sarcastic to the point of making them uncomfortable. My friend became so upset that she no longer felt like eating, and it completely changed the mood of her birthday dinner. We came here to celebrate, not to argue with a server over a plate of fries. To be fair, the other employees were very nice, provided good service, and the rest of the food was delicious. Unfortunately, this one interaction was enough to negatively affect our experience. This location is just on the outskirts of Downtown Campbell is a great place for date nights, anniversaries, or birthdays. We came to celebrate the latter, as it was a belated birthday for my sister. The Good: *Fantastic service by Carlo. He knows how to wait on a party. 10/10 *Décor and ambiance were perfect. I did see some sorta strange lighting in some Yelp photos, but maybe that's later, as we eat early. Cuz, you know, we're old and shit. *Full bar and beer on-tap *Pizza was on-point and had great flavor. I did have only one slice, but it was pretty darn good. *Probably the best Eggplant Parmigiana I've *ever* had. I liked that the eggplants weren't battered and fried so the dish as a whole felt more fresh and light, as opposed to how Eggplant Parm usually makes you feel heavy and bad. *Housemade Limoncello was outstanding. Ask for a sample. *Tiramisu was tasty but could've used a bit more coffee flavor if I had a minor gripe. *Panna Cotta was fantastic. Just perfectly soft and custardy with a nice vanilla base. The Meh: *Small private lot and some street parking--but read the signs! *The special Artichoke app was just whatever. I'm not a fan of peeling the leaves, dipping, and scraping. The roasted brussel sprouts with balsamic and parmesan cheese was wonderful and the portion large enough to split/share. The halibut special was just as described and the special pasta (pasta with large mussels) was wonderful too. I booked a reservation here for my 13th anniversary with my husband after hearing so many great things from friends. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the hype. We were greeted warmly at the front desk and led to our table in the back. Our server, Ernesto, promptly greeted himself and asked if we wanted "sparkling or still water." Knowing the usual upsell, we requested still. He followed-up with, "tap or bottle," which was another attempt to upsell. We ordered drinks, including an Espresso Martini ($16) that was tasty but nothing special. Soon after, we placed our dinner order. Fritto Misto ($18.95) - 7/10 ~6 calamari rings, 2 calamari tentacles and 2 tiger prawns. Bland overall. The Chef Capri Sauce was the highlight! Linguine Del Golfo ($26.95) - 8/10 Pasta had great texture and it was loaded with shrimp and clams. Personally, I could have used more sauce but the intentional flavors of the ocean came through. Cacio e Pepe ($26.95) - 2/10 This was the BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT! The tableside prep is meant to be the star but the server wheeled the cart up without a word and prepared the pasta one table away. I barely noticed until he dropped the plate in front of me. The portion was small, presentation was sloppy and flavor was way below average. Both the couple next to us and another table across shared the same complaints. We all made the effort to talk about it with each other. Presentation and portion size for each table was inconsistent. This was meant more for the tableside presentation and a nice video to share on social but we didn't get that either. The dish felt like a gimmick and we all agreed we'd never order it again or recommend it to friends. Midway through dinner, Ernesto noticed I had pasta sauce left and offered bread to soak it up. I said yes without thinking...only to see $4.95 added to the bill. That should have been communicated upfront. Service overall was inconsistent. Other tables were walked through the specials and menu but we never got that. Our water glasses were often empty and when I asked for a bottle for the table, Ernesto said they don't do that. Yet every table around us had one. I'm very unsure why my experience stood out so much compared to others. The final bill came to $105.90 before tip. Which also includes a 3% "Employee Health & Benefit Surcharge." One last note, the bathroom was a mess. At 6 PM on a Saturday, there were no paper towels, no toilet paper, and clogged toilets. For a restaurant with this reputation, that was a bit shocking. I informed staff early in into dinner service and it was still the same an hour later when I left. Would I come back? The restaurant offers inside and outside seating along with at the bar. Two separate, single user men and women restrooms. Light house music playing. We ordered mostly off their HH menu. *Gnocchetti Tartufo V: Homemade baked potato gnocchi with cream, truffle, & Parmesan cheese (4/5). The gnocchi was soft and delicately held onto the rich decadent cheesy sauce. *Fritto Misto: Monterey calamari, tiger prawns, julienne zucchini, & chef capri sauce (4/5). A light fry that gave this dish a nice crunch yet wasn't too overly breaded. *Truffle Fries: French fries with truffle oil, Parmesan, salt & pepper (3/5). This was just ok. We didn't taste any truffle oil. *Bruschetta Trio: three of their signature bruschetta recipes (4/5). A nice sampling and each were delicious! *Crocchette (4/5) - a trio of smooth and creamy potatoes breaded served with marinara. *Almond Pina Colada: barcardi rum, pineapple juice, amaretto, lime juice, almond syrup (3.5/5). The drink was good though, I don't think it had any amaretto or almond syrup in it. It was just a plain Pina colada. *Spritz Trio: Lemoncello Spritz, Aperol Spritz, and Campari Spritzs. The lemoncello was the table favorite. The Campari was a bit bitter but it is supposed to aid in digestion. *Cacio e Pepe V: Homemade tagliolini, black pepper, & parmigiano-reggiano served table side (4/5). I called and they told us no problem and take ur time, but our table was not available when we arrived so we decided to sit at the bar. But i would def opt for table reservation if u come. The interior is beautiful and the volume is very loud at this place, so difficult to hear if ur coming here for a date. We ordered the mango salad as appetizer then the Branzino and Capio de Pepe. The mango salad was very tart and citriusy, i thought it was fine. The branzino was pretty yummy but it doesnt come with the crispy skin if u like that (my bf does). The veggies seemed a bit undercooked (carrots and broccoilini) but it was nice to have veggies but they just didnt taste great but maybe bc they r more raw and healthy? The highlight for me was the Cacio e Pepe. They give very ample cheese which i didnt experience at other restaurants and it was addicting i kept eating it even tho i was full. It is full of pepper tho so my stomach did feel the heat even the next day. Very good tho. The restaurant itself is cozy and well decorated and lit. The menu leaves a lot to be desired! We came on Valentine's Day weekend and wasn't told that the menu would be limited. Not many gluten free options at all which we called ahead about. The gluten free Margherita pizza was very basic with no option to customize and it was just a regular cheese pizza with some basil. I was very disappointed that for the price that the quality of the pizza was not very good. My boyfriend got one of the meat dishes and his was much better and his vegetables were much more well seasoned and flavorful. Pizza Parmiziana soft pizza with mozzarella cheese, basil and great tasting tomatoes. Punch flavors and the freshness of dish was very evident in every bite. GNOCCHI Sorrentina was good but nothing out of ordinary. Crocche which was not part of the menu, it was good but pricey for appetizer. Spaghetti alla nerano earthly but too al dente for me, to much bite, could have cooked for some more time. Amazing experience from the moment I called the place to book a reservation for 2. Ambiance is very cute and gives a nice cute date vibe. The food was very good. We got the cheese wheel pasta and chicken fettuccine Alfredo and we both loved the dishes. The desert was the highlight. We ordered tiramisu and the server gave us a complimentary flan since we were celebrating our anniversary. THAT was the cherry on top for this extraordinary visit. The tiramisu was a 10/10 and the FLAN WAS A 11/10. Best flan ever. I would highly recommend this place to anybody. 10/10 experience since the beginning and very friendly service!!! read more

Overall excellent experience. We had eaten here when they first opened. I mistakenly thought the person that took our order was the owner and he was very communicative to the point he took away from the experience. Well not the case, the owner is a nice lady that is also very Italian. The food is excellent. Having spent the winter holidays in Rome and Venice the quality of food here and preparation is equally good. Had the chicken parm and it was great. Lots of tastes with flavor. The fish was delicious. Perfectly made with freshness in every bite. Veggies were also well made. Had the seafood spaghetti and again excellent. It was a birthday and the brought out the Pena Cora with Carmel. Very good. I will be back soon. read more

This is the 5th Locanda location that I've visited. We were welcomed with their usual lovely Italian charm where they make you feel like family. Love all the lemon-themed decorations unique to all Locanda restaurants. The menu at every location is slightly different. They have similar dishes so we opted to try what this branch specializes in. To drink we tried their Almond Pina Colada, 1137, Spring Tequila Sour and a Coronado beer. For appetizer, we ordered: Frito Misto - a family favorite we always order Insalata Fresca - delicate and lovely with sweet tasting peaches Artichoke Hearts - tasty. The dip had kick but I didn't like the inedible spiky parts. For dinner, we ordered: Cacio e Pepe - Made to order at your table!! That was fun to watch. Trofie Al Pesto Lasagna Della Mamma Lobster Linguini San Daniele Pizza - beautiful and fresh ingredients. The best! The pastas were all cooked al dente. Great flavor but also very rich. Everything was cheesy with lots of sauce. For dessert, we had an opera singer sing "Happy Birthday" and delivered a Caramel Panna Cotta for her. What a unique experience! We also ordered the tiramisu and the chocolate soufflé. All desserts were very good. We ended our dinner with complementary limoncello shots - another way Locanda has taken care of us. I have patronized this restaurant many times, both as a dine-in guest and take out. This is my first negative experience I had with their food. The service during pick up was great as always. This review is strictly concerning their food. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo pollo to go. I don't think the chicken was cooked thoroughly. It didn't taste fully cooked when I tried the first piece but I wrote it off to it being chunks of thigh instead of grilled breast like I'm used to when I order chicken alfredo from other restaurants. It was the only thing I ate today. Without going into detail, I have been experiencing really bad symptoms of food poisoning. With that said, I will still be dining here but I will stick to their fritto misto, cacio e pepe and panna cotta. read more

This place is a legit, family-owned Italian restaurant! We visited this place during Christmas 2023 -- posting this a little late, but some experiences are just too good not to share! This restaurant holds a special place in my heart. It's one of the first truly memorable dining experiences I had after moving to San Jose, and it instantly became part of my core memories. I'm not Italian myself, but I can definitely vouch for how incredible the food is. The flavors are rich, comforting, and clearly made with love. They offer some really good vegetarian options -- not an overwhelming variety, but what they do have is spot-on and absolutely delicious. The dining space leans more toward fine dining, with a romantic, cozy ambience that sets the perfect tone for a special evening. One of the loveliest things about this place? You'll often see Italian families dining across three generations. It's genuinely heartwarming to sit in the same room as a big, happy family enjoying good food and conversation -- it adds to the whole experience. Service was warm and attentive throughout. Just a heads-up: parking can be tricky since if it's street parking. If you don't find a spot nearby, try the surrounding residential streets. read more

It was my first time here since the restaurant changed to Locanda Sorrento. I had made a reservation online, but we still had to wait about 20 minutes. The restaurant was packed! They don't really have a lobby/waiting area, so they ask you to sit at the bar while you're waiting for your table. It looks like the main dining room with the bar typically sits more of the larger parties, and then they have a secondary room, as well as a small banquet room in the back. The secondary room is definitely a tight squeeze! The walkway is a bit narrow (especially when the cheese wheel cart is coming through!) and expect to sit within close distance to your table neighbors. For appetizers, we ordered the Fiori di Zucca. They batter and fill zucchini squash blossoms with fresh ricotta cheese and mozzarella, and it's served with a side of marinara sauce. An order comes with four. Not bad, but I do feel like the outer batter was a little bready, so it kind of took away from the texture of the squash blossom. We also had the Arancini--these bechamel rice balls have mozzarella and are topped with ham. The menu says they're served with marinara, but ours came with a sauce that was more yellow in color. For my entree, I had the Troife al Pesto. They use homemade short twisted pasta with house made basil and pine nut pesto, a touch of cream, tomato confit, and parmigiano-reggiano chips. The sauce is on the richer, oilier side, but it's tasty! I think it could have use a little more tomato confit or some other acidity to help break it up a bit more though. I also tried some of the Fettuccine Boscaiola, which has fresh fettuccine pasta with wild mushrooms, Italian mild sausage, English peas, and cream sauce. I enjoyed this dish, the texture of the fresh pasta was great! read more
