Only the most awesome ice cream place in Bay Area. I am not a fan of ice cream in general .. but this place has me coming back everytime for their signature and new flavors. The service is great... They help you taste flavors before what you want to order. So many flavors to chose from and you will know immediately what to get. The ambiance is casual and they have both outdoor and indoor seating. I love their malai kulfi and rose kaku katli which is not available anymore. I had so many of my friends try the rose kaku katli and they absolutely loved it . I would bring pints home. I am super bummed about them discontinuing that. I read about this place in the news recently - that 2 moms had taken over and the plans they had to expand etc. I am not a big ice cream fan and was not planning to check it out but it was a hot night in March and we decided to check it out. We arrived around 8pm on a Saturday and the place was not packed but there were plenty of people inside. It is located in a strip mall along El Camino in Sunnyvale and had plenty of parking because the other business close in the evening. There is ample seating inside and out. We stood in line for less than 5 minutes before we were served. I was excited once I got there because this place serves ice cream flavors that I grew up eating in India, these are not traditional flavors you will get but very ethnic. They have a sign that says that you can only try 2 flavors when it is crowded and I tried the meetha pan and gulab jamun. We ended up ordering the sithaphal, alphanso mango and chocolate. We also got gummi bears for the topping which we were served in a separate cup. The menu includes other desserts like cakes, custards, drinks and pints of ice cream in various flavors ready to go. You can get your ice cream in a cup or a cone, they also have a flight of 4 cups of ice cream for $14.99. The prices are reasonable with a cup starting at $5.99 a scoop I was disappointed once I tried the ice cream, sithaphal is my all time favorite fruit and the ice cream had plenty of fruit in it but it was too sweet. None of us finished our cups. Plus, the gummi bears were so difficult to chew that we ended up tossing them. Food: I've tried various flavors and haven't been disappointed yet; the texture is smooth and not icy, and the sweetness has been balanced enough for my palate each time that it doesn't end up being too sweet. Omg, pints of joy was such a pleasant surprise with their flavor offerings. They have a huge myriad of flavors from gulabjamun to chiku to custard apple and lots of decadent chocolate flavors too. We were too excited to try the multiple flavors so we decided to try the flight with 4 flavors, namely, chocolate orange, custard apple, gulabjamun and chiku. The dark chocolate orange flavor was a standout for me. It was the perfect blend of decadence and citrus, the chiku and gulabjamun were great too. The custard apple was a bit mild as we could barely taste the custard apple. They also have great sundaes but we didn't try them this time. Overall the ambience is simple with about 5-6 tables. The spicy guava flavor wasn't spicy enough (chilli lime guava) - but worth trying (3/5). The custard apple flavor was good too - but a little too sweet for my taste. Please skip the chai flavor - unless you're a chai lover and you have to try. I had my eyes on the cassata and the chikoo, malai kulfi and falooda flavors. Somethings are for next time! Definitely more than a pint of joy whenever I come to this ice cream shop. There's a variety of flavors that can please any taste. They allow for two tastings per person. I haven't had a flavor that I don't like. The ice cream is always fresh, even the prepacked ones from the shop. I've seen pints sold at other Indian markets but they don't have such a high turnover so they may be icy. Plenty of parking in front of the shop. If there's a line, don't worry, it goes fast. Another great ice cream spot in Sunnyvale. I was surprised to see how crowded it was on a Sunday evening. I tried the dark chocolate with orange, chikoo, gulab jamun, and sitaphal (custard apple). I absolutely loved the dark chocolate and orange combination--the chocolate was rich, and the mild citrus notes from the orange balanced it perfectly. A must-try flavor here. Gulab jamun was my second favorite. It had tiny pieces of gulab jamun mixed into a vanilla base, though it might be a bit too sweet for some. The chikoo flavor tasted very natural, like a sweeter version of the actual fruit, really creamy and flavorful. I tried a few samples, one of the dark chocolate orange and one of the walnut and fig flavor, which were both pretty good. Could really taste the fresh fig. I eventually went with the rose pistachio. It didn't have a ton of pistachio, but it had nice pieces of rose. The ice cream is very creamy if you like a heavier creamy ice cream. I actually prefer a lighter ice cream, but the flavors here are so unique that I would come back just to try some of the other unique flavors. I eyed some icecream cakes on my last visit and decided I had to get one for the next birthday I host. So I called a day before the party to ensure they have a fresh cake available for pickup the next day. We got the Alphonso mango cake and just the smell was tantalizing!! It was topped with pistachios, I think they used butter cream which I didn't care for much but the rest I loved!! They had layers of mango flavored cake in addition to the alphonso mango icecream. You kinda have-to because the flavors are so original for the Bay Area. They had sesame, sweet paan, rose pistachio, biscotti, kalfi, mango, coconut, rose coconut, salted caramel, mocha, cookies and cream, etc., etc. They offer flights which I've never seen offered and just love the idea of tasting 4-5 ice creams like wine. [Doordash order review] I've always driven by Pints of Joy and wound up Doordashing them after craving ice cream that night. (Note that they only sell pints size ice cream on Doordash). All the flavor pints range from $14.50 to $15. I thoroughly enjoyed their gulab jamun and chikoo. The gulab jamun is lightly sweetened with little gulab jamun pieces throughout. It was my first time trying chikoo and I can only describe it a nutty flavor with light notes of cinnamon. Definitely a unique spot showcasing the freshness and spices of Indian dessert flavors. We ordered the Vegan chocolate ice cream. through DoorDash Sunnyvale location. We ate a small bit in the evening we ordered and next afternoon while eating- we found a broken " metal and plastic chunk: in the ice cream. See attached pictures. We immediately called the location. After 2 tries we were told the manager would call us back and they assured us that they had our number. The manager did not call us. We ended up calling them and telling them to please stop selling the Vegan chocolate until they get to the bottom as this is a food Safety/Quality issue. He said yes please send pictures and lot# . We sent it all and have not received any response. After waiting we created a safety report on Doordash and with Santa Clara county. This should be stopped. We have tooth pain because we bit into this piece. We are unsure if we have consumed pieces which we did not bite into. This is extremely upsetting- please eat at your own risk! Yes, we did an immediate health check and are presently monitoring the situation. Update: They got back finally after many tries to contact them. They weren't apologetic and justified foreign objects in food as a common thing. Eat at your own risk. It somehow feels that the response from Pints of Joy was directed towards reaction to the issue than the actual issue of a foreign object in food which is a safety hazard. Update: we got an update from the food inspector from the county and they told us they made them clean up the entire batch and the machines. read more
