I've been to this Somisomi location several times. They are located on Main Street in Cupertino. After dining at one of the restaurants nearby, it's a nice stroll over to check them out. They are always crowded and the line is always outside the door. The place is small and usually a grab-and-go place as there is nowhere to sit. Though, they do have a few tables outside. One unisex restroom. We ordered their taiyaki. Taiyaki is a popular Japanese fish-shaped cake with a waffle-like or pancake-like exterior and a sweet filling. We enjoy the red bean, custard, & black sesame. The soft serve ice cream is always delicious and they switch up their flavors occasionally. Come check them out! Support your local business.
I'm a little embarrassed to admit it - even though I thought I'd done my research before going to Somi Somi - I got a little confused by the menu terms. What I learned was, while both an Ah-boong and the Taiyaki are "fish with fillings", they're different animals altogether. Once I figured it out, I ended up with a very yummy cookies and cream Ah-boong with Nutella plus a hot custard Taiyaki. Both were fantastic. I was going to order more Taiyaki to take home, but there was a line building out the door (the place is tiny). I'll go back and try the Cherry Jubilee later this week! And if you're a Somi Somi pro, please tell me your Ah-boong survival strategy because my "fish scales" were covered in ice-cream drips in about five minutes, and I had to take action instead of taking a pic.
There's plenty of parking as well as outside seating in the area. There are no seats inside. This place is more grab and go. This place can get pretty crowded. The wait time isn't too long even if it is crowded. There are no bathrooms here. All the soft serve flavors I tried here were very delicious so you can't go wrong with any flavor. They also rotate their flavor combinations periodically. Their soft serve is very creamy and is good quality. The taiyaki that comes with it makes it so much enjoyable. My favorite taiyaki fillings are the nutella and the custard. I usually prefer getting the upside down ahboong since it's easier to eat.
A nice dessert spot after a meal! I got the cookies and cream in a cup and my friend got the ube & banana milk swirl. The banana milk seems like a new flavor? At least I haven't seen that before. I'd say the ice cream is on the sweeter side so it'll be good to have a cup of water with you or something. I always get my fruity pebbles topping as well. Was super quick as there wasn't rlly a line on a Thursday evening. Inside was clean and it's nice to be able to ee how the ah boong were made. I would've gotten it but it would've been too much along with the ice cream. I'll get it another day with the red bean filling
Love this spot, we have been here lots of times over the years, htough its super sweet hence i deducted a star. I love their ube, we have tried multiple flavors. There is always a line, and the place gets crowded, overall decent spot
My experience at SomiSomi was very good! I really enjoy soft serve, and somi somi has the best soft serve in town. The cookies and cream was rich and creamy, and was nice on a warm day. Price is reasonable too. A cup of soft serve with toppings is only 4.50, and the staff are nice. The inside is small and doesn't have seating, but there are plenty of outdoor seating options in Main Street.
A classic Cupertino Main Street staple. I used to come here a lot during my childhood, and it's popular amongst the nearby high schools. Their quality is solid, and their prices seem inflation-resistant, which is incredible. The service is always standard. I definitely feel bad for the high schoolers working there dealing with super long lines. There's a good amount of outdoor seating, but be prepared to wait a bit to order. I really like their fresh taiyaki - they make it right in front of you, so it's served piping hot. You can also choose from a variety of fillings. The soft serve is delicious (and lactose free!). I enjoy their classic ube and matcha flavors. The most recent time I visited, I tried the sakura berry soft serve, which wasn't my favorite. It had a sickly sweet artificial taste, almost like bubblegum. I'll definitely be coming again but sticking with the classic soft serve flavors.
Came on a hot Sunday around 2pm and SomiSomi was packed. It's located in a large food plaza with plenty of parking thanks to nearby garages. The shop itself is pretty small and more of a grab-and-go spot, but there's outdoor seating close by. I have not had SomiSomi in a really long time, and I really liked that they rotate their flavors. I ordered: -Matcha and sakura berry swirl with an upside-down ahboong and custard filling: soft serve was smooth and creamy. The matcha was solid, not too bitter with a nice level of sweetness. The standout for me was the sakura berry. It wasn't overly floral and blended really well with the strawberry flavor. I usually don't go for floral desserts, but I'd definitely get this one again. 5/5. Service was friendly, and they were clearly working hard to keep up with the crowd. Even with how busy it was, my wait was about 10-15 minutes, which felt reasonable. All in all, a solid dessert stop with unique flavors that make it worth coming back to try more.
You know banana matcha hates to see me coming! When I found out this was their swirl of the week, I didn't think twice. Parking was surprisingly easy on a Wednesday night, the line was also not long at all. The girl working hadn't tried the swirl, but she was able to provide her recommendation for the banana pudding flavor and it was helpful. If I worked here I would be trying everything. I appreciate that they tell you what has lactase so you know when to pop your Lactaid. On to the flavor, we ordered banana pudding and matcha swirl, ofc. I just got a few Biscoff crumbles on top and that was soooo good. My partner got Oreo and biscoff crumbles with a Nutella filled Taiyaki. The matcha really compliments the sweet banana pudding. However I do wish the banana flavor was less artificial. It reminded me of banana Laffy Taffy. No seating inside, but plenty of pet-friendly tables outside!

Also decided to try the taiyaki -which are fish shaped pancakes with filling. - we chose to have Nutella and custard. They were made to order so there's a bit of a wait. The Taiyaki with Nutella was delicious - crisp on the outside and oozing with Nutella on the inside. We also had one with custard filling. The flavor of the custard was a bit disappointing in comparison to the Nutella. There's also other filling choices like red bean, matcha and a few others I can't remember. The choice of ice cream also came with a hollowed out Taiyaki on top. Really cool idea. There are tables outside to sit on a nice day. The staff at Somi Somi were friendly. Would come back again to try other flavors. And take more pictures!
This Somisomi review is long overdue. Been frequenting this spot for Asian ice cream since the first time they've opened. Nowadays, I'm not the biggest ice cream person, however, last month, I had the hugest craving for matcha soft serve and they did not disappoint! My favorite thing is that they're not too sweet, so it's perfect for an Asian sweet treat. I got an upside down Ahboong with a matcha custard + matcha soft serve and extra matcha powder on top. Soooooo fire. Definitely hit the spot. I give this last experience an 8.5/10. Matcha on matcha on matcha. I also love how their soft serve is lactose intolerant-friendly. Thanks for saving my stomach LOL. The vibes inside the store are cool, very much set up takeout, with outdoor seating. Overall, definitely will come back if I ever have another crazy matcha soft serve craving.
This place always satisfies, and impresses out of town visitors. It's fun to see what new swirl choices are available each week. The line moves quickly. Dessert is always hot, fresh, and can be paired with some sweet or savory options. It's not a shocker why teens flock to this cheap spot.

Always a favorite treat for our family! This place can get busy after dinner hours so when we're passing by during off hours, I often pick up a five pack of the taiyaki for $10 as a fun treat for the family! Our favorite flavors are custard, red bean, Nutella. Today I gave myself a special treat by trying the upside down Ahboong and they had a new cherry jubilee flavor! I gave it a try with the Biscoff topping and it was delicious! At 4 PM this place was quiet, but the gal serving me was polite and sweet!! My experience at SomiSomi was very good! I really enjoy soft serve, and somi somi has the best soft serve in town. The cookies and cream was rich and creamy, and was nice on a warm day. I came on a Sunday around 2:30 and Ommgg the line was out the door and continued to be out the door and even longer when I left!! The total wait was about 20 minutes. There is only one employee and he was huffin it!! If they had another employee it would be so helpful! I got the banana pudding and matcha swirl with custard in my little fish with coconut flakes on top and it was soo soo good!!! There is no seating, just a counter. I want to get the banana pudding again before it leaves! read more

I really like the upside down ahboong which has a filled Taiyaki placed on top of your soft serve. On the day that we came, they offered 4 different flavors (Cookies n Cream, Matcha, Ube and Banana Pudding) and 2 swirls (Cookes n Cream + Matcha, Ube + Banana Pudding). They used to offer a Black Sesame flavor which I liked a lot and hope that they'll bring back next time I come, but I ended up choosing the plain Ube flavor. For fillings, my go to is always either Custard or Red Bean. The combination of having soft serve and then following with a bite of taiyaki is so amazing. Somisomi is definitely one of my go to dessert spots and I would highly recommend you try it if you haven't yet! read more

Crispy waffles with sufficient filling. The cold brew tasted amazing- good coffee, not burnt, made with medium roast coffee served in glass bottles. This is our 5th visit and was consistent every time. Rush gets crazy after 8 pm but they are fast and efficient. read more
I came pretty late at night after craving dessert after dinner. It was surprisingly still pretty busy inside. The interior is very bright and welcoming, but there is no seating. I got the Ube soft serve topped with Oreos and a macaroon. It was "not too sweet" and very delicious. Overall, I had a great experience and will be back for more! read more
Came here twice in the span of a week! The soft serve is always a treat, but the contrast of a warm waffle on top cannot be overstated. I've tried the taiyaki with custard filling and recently came back for the upside-down version filled with black sesame, paired with the ube and matcha swirl. Everything was great! Service is extremely quick! The only thing to keep in mind is that parking can be limited during weekends and peak hours. read more

We got 2 of the upside down fishy and icecreams. First we got cookies and cream icecream and toppings with Nutella filling. Light flavors but very yummy. Not to sweet warm flakey bread in the fishy. I also got pistachio icecream no toppings and Dubai filling with the warm crispy fishy. Dubai filling is chocolate with that Kadayıf crispy chocolate yummy. Service was ok,quick to the point they got me in and out within five minutes. Just dont expect it with a smile and know what you want they dont really seem to like answering questions. It was a cute little shop, clean reminds me of a pop up shop there's chairs out front to sit down. Total cost about 16$ read more
This location is always busy due to the foot traffic of all the other places around it. Nevertheless it's always good to get a sweet treat after a meal. They do have a really good system down to get the lines going through. Everyone's working hard and quickly while maintaining the quality all somisomis in the Bay Area have. My only question is why are the options to get the fish only 2 or 5. Other than that. This place is always the spot with their og flavors and their flavors of the week you can check out on the website read more

We went on Friday 6/26/2026 at 3:40 pm and the guy with curly hair working had no interest in welcoming us to the store or asking us what we wanted. When we did get out ice cream, we went outside and came back a few minutes later with nobody at the front desk. We made eye contact with the same guy who was at the back and he just went back to doing whatever he was doing without saying he'd be out in a minute or anything like that. More customers came and we just stood there wondering if anyone is going to help us. Eventually he came out and didn't apologize at all and just took orders reluctantly. Now the ice cream itself - he gave us such a TINY amount. I took a picture to show what somisomi advertised on the poster vs the pitiful short little squirt we got. Like three swirls short of the picture! You can see we haven't eaten off the top because our matcha powder topping is still there. We really got it this short. Unbelievable. We are not the type to be confrontational about getting more and felt weird asking for more. But we for sure wanted people to be warned. This guy needs major re-training or people will stop coming to this location entirely. read more

I was today years old when I found out that SomiSomi is a soft serve dessert chain with over 30 stores across the US. And here I was bragging about this 'new', 'unique', cute and cozy Korean dessert place in Cupertino that serves soft serve ice cream and Taiyakis! LOL. We've frequented this place for well over two years and I finally got down to write a review.... My daughter loves the cookies and cream flavored 'Ahboong' - a softserve in a fish-shaped waffle cone. But honestly I just wait for her to finish the ice cream so I can dig into that nutella or custard filled cone. It's crunchy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside. Just perfect. TBH I feel the flavors are a tad understated and mild and the ice cream itself is firmer than what you'd expect in a traditional soft-serve. Try the latest Dalgona flavor and you'll see what I mean. There's literally just a tiny hint of coffee. The cookies n cream flavor is our favorite. The lines are usually long but the service is fast. Definitely recommend! read more
If you are considering coming to this place... run don't walk!!! This is such a local gem here in the South Bay. I personally don't have a sweet tooth so when it comes to only dessert places I tend to just not go to them (unless the kids drag me to any!!) But this place is an exception. It is so unique and caters to many different type of flavor profiles. It is nestled in the heart of the downtown Cupertino square. There are plenty of restaurants in the area so you can just walk over here for a nice treat. You walk in and order at the counter. They have only a few options to choose from. You can order the *special fish shaped waffle cone* called Ah-boong plain or with filling. They have standard flavors like cookied and cream (our favorite!) but they also have new seasonal flavors that get swapped out with every season. Currently they have a *cookies and cream and peaches* and it is THE BEST FLAVOR! I usually stick to the traditional ones but this one knocked it out of the park! You can also add toppings on top for no extra charge like rainbow sprinkles or cookie crumbles which Is such a nice touch. Be wary as this place does get super packed especially on weekends and late nights but the line goes super fast and you won't be waiting too long. Bonus they have kid entertainment where you can watch them make the waffle while you wait! It's a sure highlight! The staff there are super nice and friendly too. This is THE spot for kids if you're looking to take them on a special treat. It's worth the drive JUST to come here too. It's so delicious and very filling! This place was packed! It's a small location, but the line was out the door. I honestly didn't expect much from it. Both my husband and I aren't big ice cream or dessert people. But our friends took us out to dinner and wanted to stop by here on the way out--and I'm so glad we did! We got the Upside Down Cookies and Cream with Nutella filling, and one order of the Taiyaki (2 pieces)--one filled with Nutella and the other with custard. My husband can't handle overly sweet desserts for too long, so we usually share to balance it out. But with this dessert, we didn't even need to! It was sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. With all the different components, you'd think it would be too much--but it really wasn't. We finished both desserts before we even realized it. Honestly, I wish we had ordered more. Now the line out the door totally makes sense. The service was fast and friendly. I'm so glad we skipped dessert at dinner and made a stop here instead! read more

Consistent location for soft serve! The Cupertino Somisomi is my go-to for a sweet treat. The soft serve is always revolving with unique flavors and the taiyakis are warm, crispy, and delicious every time. Some days there's a line out the door, but most days the wait is reasonable. Somi Somi never disappoints with its fun concept and delicious flavors . I went for the taiyaki filled with black sesame and cookies & crème--both flavors hit the spot! The black sesame was nutty and smooth and my preffered one though! Love the warm, chewy taiyaki cone paired with the soft serve--it's the ultimate texture contrast. Fast service. This spot is a must-visit when the temps rise to 79 degrees in Bay Area and your sweet tooth calls. Refreshing, unique, and totally Instagrammable! read more

It is my favorite place to get dessert. I love their ube soft serve with fruity pebbles. As classic a pairing as chocolate and peanut butter. The taiyaki is solid most times but the soft serve is always on point. Don't be discouraged by a long line, the service is usually pretty quick. Parking is scarce in the late evening so be wary of that! read more

yummy!!! got matcha and ube and the flavor was so good. the best part was honestly their taiyaki. it was soft and so tasty, tasted like an egg waffle. i like how you can customize the filling of the taiyaki. there is always a slight line here and it is definitely worth it for a quick sweet treat! service was quick too read more

How much is the taiyaki filling?
The taiyaki with filling goes 2 taiyakis for $3.95 and 5 for $7.95. No extra charge for filling and the taiyaki on the top of ice cream also comes with a filling if you'd like with no additional cost.
What's the difference between somisomi and uji time?
Uji Time is a Japanese company that has an icier soft cream texture. Their flavors are matcha, black sesame, tofu, and seasonal. SomiSomi is a Korean brand with creamier ice cream and they call their fish shaped taiyakis "ah boong". Their flavors…
How long is the wait?
Depends on the day and time you go of course. We went a couple weeks ago and it was a weekday around 5:00 PM and we waited around 30 minutes.
What is the best filling?
If you try out the basic mochi Taiyaki with no ice cream, consider getting cheddar. They add two cubes of cheese and it tastes like a grilled cheese sandwich! Nice savory change.
What is a good topping?

They have black sesame, but it isn't in constant rotation. Each week they pick a different couple of flavors and flavor combos.
Is the soft serve lactose-free?
There was a sign that said they were lactose-free!
Any vegan options?
Unfortunately, there's no vegan options at this time. Except the milk flavor, all soft serve is lactose-free but not dairy-free.
Are they going to open up the Sul&Beans?
Eventually! They're definitely still working on it, but the sign is up so I'm hoping this summer will be the grand opening!!
