I stopped by on Memorial Day around 2 PM, and the place was absolutely packed. The guy helping customers was going nonstop for six hours straight and was only just getting a chance to eat cup noodles for lunch. It shows how busy this place gets! By the time I arrived, all the donut holes had already sold out, but thankfully there were still apple fritters left. Given how big and satisfying they are, I wasn't complaining. Came here because my gf was craving an apple fritter. Standard donut shop layout and seats, pink boxes, and lighting that's a bit dim (it looked closed from the outside). Quick service, ask for what you want, and pay. They were out of apple fritters for the day but they had something even better: blueberry fritters. Who doesn't love donuts?!?! Yelp just did their Bay Area donut highlight and this one deserves ALL the praises ok the border of the South Bay & Peninsula. The store is a nondescript corner spot that has actually been around for almost 50 years. It's seen a lot of changes in the area but it stands tall right on the corner. There are about a dozen seats inside, but most people take their goodies to go. The selection is huge with all the traditional types of donuts and some truly outrageous combinations. My two boys insist that their donuts and their bagels are both the biggest and the best in the area. I am not going to disagree with either one of them. I recently had the blueberry fritter, not pictured because it was so delicious I forgot all about taking a pic. Plenty of blueberries and every bright, a nice crispiness on the outside, and perfect texture on the inside. The staff are super kind, friendly, and professional. They know all the regulars and always welcome everyone with a bright smile. The place has a small parking lot in back, and is open 24-hours. At 530pm, the case was packed with all kinds of donuts. I asked for a 1/2 dozen for $15. These donuts aren't cheap, but they're big and soft! The coffees offered were Regular, Hazelnut, and French Roast. My donuts were fresh, soft and fluffy. I had a friendly chat with man working there. We talked about everything from the cost of living in the bay area, to where to get a good burrito. The interior looks a bit outdated, with several tables and booths. I've been here many times since my previous review and it's definitely a go-to spot to satisfy my donut cravings any time of the day since it's open 24 hours. Every time I've come whether it be morning, random afternoon hours, or late nights, the shelves are stocked which is a plus. The donuts I always go for are the sprinkled donuts, cruller, blueberry, old fashioned, and once in a while the matcha. All of which hit the spot every time and aren't dried out. Nothing fancy, just the typical standard sweet donuts that don't look like they've been sitting out for days/old batches. Donut Wheel is pretty unassuming location-wise, and the service is no-frills, but it always has a really nice selection of both classic and specialty donuts. I've been to Donut Wheel at many random times over the years (morning, evening, 1 AM), and I've never been disappointed. I feel like their specialty donut selection has gotten more varied over the years, and I'm glad for that, because I'm partial to a specialty cake donut. There's a yummy red velvet donut with cream cheese frosting that I really enjoy, and if you're a fan like me, you should totally also try their blueberry donut! This is not our go-to donut shop as it's farther away from home, but we've come here on several occasions, particularly when we have a late-night donut craving (they're open 24 hours). They have a really broad selection of donuts. Many of them are more gimmicky than traditional, such as cronuts, red velvet, and donuts topped with Fruity Pebbles or crushed Oreo cookies. But they have the more familiar ones, such and raised glazed, twists, buttermilks, chocolate glazed chocolate cake donuts, and old fashioned, plus things like croissants, bear claws, fritters, turnovers, jelly-filled, cinnamon rolls, etc. Basically, if you can't find something here that appeals to you then you're either too picky or are completely lost and just need directions back to the freeway. The donuts here are more expensive than many other places - for example, a buttermilk bar is $3.50 and one of their standard, nonfancy donuts is $2.50. The specialty donuts start at $4.50. The prices are clearly posted on the wall behind the counter. Though pricier than our regular place, I have to acknowledge that the donuts here are also larger, so maybe that justifies the price. Then again, nothing is truly overpriced if people are still willing to pay. It's donut economics. We always go for the traditional offerings. We haven't been disappointed yet, except for maybe a 2:00am foray which netted us donuts that probably had been sitting in the case for many hours. One thing we've noticed is that glazed twists and regular raised glazed aren't quite as yeasty as other shops - they're a little denser, not light and airy. It's still a good bite. I take a minute to look over their selection of donuts. Prices seemed high at first but I was looking at the "specialty" menu/pricing, $50/dozen. They don't list the donuts that are considered specialty, so don't be surprised if your one or dozen donuts cost more than $2/donut. I was shocked to find out that their donut twist is considered a specialty item (that's the only reason for the 4.2 on my review) and I almost walked out since that is usually a standard donut in almost every donut shop, but I kindly declined and stayed with the cake donuts and a variety of raised donuts. Out the door for a dozen $28 w/tip since I liked the customer service. Now for the review on their donuts: portion size is LARGE for the price! But the taste is almost perfect, their cake donuts are light and really had that cake consistency. The raised donuts are light, airy/fluffy and the icing not overly sweet to mine and my friends taste. Even the cake donut a day later (as I write this review) is still better than some other donut shops freshly made one! Very glad we found this spot for our donut needs, this has quickly became one of our favorite donut place. First of all, they have THE largest selection of donuts which is great. Whenever we are in the area we made sure to grab some of their donuts to go. Some of our favorites - Raised Vanilla with Sprinkles, Raised Strawberry with Sprinkles, Powder Raspberry Jelly Filled, Raspberry Filled Jelly, Ube Donut with Matcha Icing Top with Pistachio, Creme Brulee, Everything Bagel Sandwich. There are so many great flavors here is almost impossible to choose. Each time we order here we struggle to decide if we want to get our all-time favorites or try new ones - the solution? We kept it simple this time and just got the chocolate and sugar donuts. They are big and fluffy with an airy interior but still with enough body to provide that satisfying doughy bite. I'm impressed how fresh they taste while offering such a huge variety! The prices aren't too bad either. I have to take a star off for the interior, however. It feels kind of grimy and dusty in there. The Doughnut turned out better than expected. They make a lot of one of a kind Doughnuts here, a lot of flavors other Shops out there don't carry. I got me a S'more, Oreo, Croissant Doughnut, Raspberry filled Jelly Doughnut, Red Velvet, Coconut, and Matcha Doughnut that looks like the Incredible Hulk. This looks really good. Here is my two cents on the quality quantity and price of the donut wheel... it was delivered by Uber eats. They did an excellent job arriving on time and going beyond expectations.... I ordered two hobbies, two old-fashioned donuts, apple fritter three maple bars... Each one of the items were very fresh and delicious .. the apple fritter has lots of apple in it.. I found the maple bars were just plain delicious and much bigger than I anticipated .. Though they were a little more expensive.. the little extra cost justify getting them here.. The vegan donuts are so delicious! I was bummed when WF stopped selling vegan donuts but now I'm grateful because it led me to Donut Wheel. They have a huge variety of vegan and non-vegan options. It was hard to choose but thankfully the person that helped me today was extremely personable and patient. He was working all alone and of course when it got busy the POS system went down. He was very polite and apologetic as he rebooted the system so I could pay. I wasn't in a rush so I didn't mind at all but his personality made the experience even more pleasant. "Caveat Emptor!" The reason for that one star: If you can time it to go when the donuts are fresh in the AM or in the late PM (~10PM - 11 PM+) then you might feel the inflated prices are worth it....since the majority of donuts shops are not open 24/7. The reason they only get one star: Sadly the new owners and workers feel the need to engage in constant predatory behaviors such as: 1. Trying to add a tip on the screen without your consent. 2. Serving old donuts when fresh ones have just come out; even after clearly telling them you want the fresh ones. 3. Adding donuts to the box that you did not order to artificially increase their sales - You have to really pay attention and do NOT let them close the box without inspecting it first. On several different occasions they added donuts we did not ask for so they could get rid of old donuts and charge us more. Overall, Donut Wheel is a shadow of its former self and is only worth the annoyance if you want donuts late at night. I have never been a donut lover but as my daughter insist to have a donut me long with my husband and my daughter visited this shop.
