I have been yelping for quite some time now and there aren't many places where I'm genuinely surprised at the overall rating. To be clear, there have been plenty of great places I have visited that have a low rating and vice-versa but there is usually a plausible reason or tenable common theme amongst the other reviews that explains the rating. I am honestly shocked that this place has a rating of less than 4 stars. I am a stan of Stan's Donuts (no pun intended) so it takes a lot for me to notice, much less try, another donut shop in the South Bay. However, I am also a cheapskate and discovered Marty's through the 2Good2Go app. When I was picking up my order, I noticed their cronuts on display. I must admit that when cronuts first came on the scene, I rolled my eyes a little and chalked them up to another millennial invention. However, I realized that, much like avocado toast, cronuts received a bit more hate than necessary and the idea of combining two of my favorite breakfast items really didn't sound all that bad and soon ended up loving them. However, I really didn't find a place outside of the city that sold them until I found them here so I ordered a couple. They were absolutely delicious. The donuts in my 2Good2Go order really weren't that great but I wasn't about to review Marty's on products that weren't their best so I ordered a few of their fresh donuts on a separate visit. The donuts were excellent hence my surprise at the mediocre rating for this place. They were fluffy and pretty comparable to what you get at Stan's. At first I thought I would come back just for the cronuts, but their donuts are also incredible! I read through the other reviews and while some comment on the customer service as a reason for their mediocre reviews, a fair number of people genuinely did not think the donuts were good hence why I am shocked at the overall low rating. I will definitely consider Marty's as an excellent alternative when I am not in the mood to wait in the line at Stan's and the fact that they are closer to my apartment is also a plus! read more

Marty's will always be a nostalgic donut shop. I've known them since I was a child. I recommend coming early in the morning because they always serve them fresh. I tried the cronut for the first time here and it was excellent. I got the Chocolate Cronut. The donut was flaky, chewy, and had a delightful crunch to it. It was definitely worth getting. I also got an assortment of donuts. They all were good! I also got ice cold milk to wash it down. This is one of the few donut shops around my area. I definitely recommend this place! read more

Unfortunately, I would not recommend. I swung by in passing and craved a good old chocolate bar. The taste of the overall donut felt like old oil and the bread was not expanded but instead flatten like a sandle/chancla. I stopped eating it mid way (whats photographed) because the insane amount of chocolate to bread ration was not yummy. I bought two of these at 6 dollars and was disappointed at the cost to the taste received. I suppose the 3$ donut to the size is good but extremely lacked quality. read more

The only thing that felt a bit off was that most of the donuts felt a bit on the salty side. I get that salt is needed in your batter, but I think Marty's went a bit over board. But maybe some would like it? The crullers were nice. The jelly filled donuts were good. The plain donuts had a nice hint of vanilla, but you need to shake the saltiness. Then the chocolate glazed donuts were delicious, minus the a bit salty taste. The fluffy texture was supreme. Service was just fine. It's a business. Their cronuts are busting. I typically don't finish my food but I ate this whole cronut and went back for bites of the other donuts. It was crispy, flaky, doughy heaven. Pro tip is to get them stuffed with custard inside. The strawberry and cookies and cream donut were also personable favorites of mine. We got a cinnamon, sugared and two chocolate sprinkle cake doughnuts. They pretty much just had a standard selection. All of the doughnuts were decent. From what I had heard about Marty's Donuts I expected it to be busier than it was. I got there on a dark Monday morning and saw a huge line at Bagel Street Cafe and was momentarily confused which place I was going to. There was a fair selection of donuts but the labels were simple, categorical, and not specific to what's behind them. For example: cronuts (croissant donuts) but there were two kinds. I would have asked but the lady didn't seem friendly. I had greeted her with a warm hello and she just nodded at me. I asked her if anything was hot and fresh and she nodded. As I made my selection, I felt silently rushed even though there was no one else there. Now, I admit I read into that a bit but I felt it nonetheless. I ended up getting the jelly filled glazed donut because, well, it called to me. You know what I mean. It was delicious. While it wasn't warm, but it was sugary, sweet, soft, fluffy, satisfying, and had a great balance of donut to jelly. Some places fill those kind of donuts too much and you don't get to enjoy the donut itself, but, Marty's was good. I may stop by again to try a cronut, which was calling but not louder than the jelly filled, and my classic favorite apple fritter sometime too. Hopefully I have a friendlier experience and those donuts wow me more than my first visit to Marty's did. read more

Myself their strawberry donut, which is amazing! and a sparkling cider and a starbucks vanilla coffee. All costed barley $13. Can't believe the low average rating on this place... These are some of the BEST donuts I've ever had. So incredibly well made. I remember one of my coworkers bought a bit too many donuts and I started snacking on them through the week and they were still delicious! What is this sorcery??!! You know a donut is like really really good if it doesn't even need to be hot and fresh to be tasty. The raised donuts are so fluffy, not too sweet, and the glaze is perfectly crackly as you bite into it but still maintains its hold onto the donut. Dough not let me live near so many doughnut shops! Small place without seating, nestled into the shopping center with Lucky's and Starbucks on Maude. Dough nut delay, here are the doughnuts: The circular maple glazed old fashioned (the whole time I thought these were just called circular buttermilk bars) may have surpassed my opinion of regular doughnuts with the slightly crunchy, rich outside and omg that maple glaze was almost solid and super sweet. Doughnut heaven. Glaze can make or break a doughnut, and this glaze made it! The doughnut with chocolate glaze and coconut was also yummy and not overly oily or doughy, a doughnut pet peeve of mine. (Yes, I realize it's called a "dough" nut, but that doesn't mean it should be like unbaked dough.) Cronuts are pricey here, apparently. And, not to mention, #so2014. Call me old fashioned, but Marty's is the first and only old fashioned I've ever tasted. Looking forward to future sugar comas from this (too) nearby mom and pop doughnut shop. read more

First time coming here, but the experience can be summed up with: THEY HAVE CRONUTS. Literally, their sign reading "Cronuts" is what drove me to actually come into this shop for the first time ever (even though I live literally down the street). I actually hadn't noticed they were even there! The Cronut was very good - definitely more on the croissant-y side than other cronuts I have tried, but I really enjoyed it. So, I was craving a donut and saw this place across from where I was parked in the lot. They have this big lettering "CRONUTS" on the window and I was intrigued. Saw that there was only 1 chocolate covered cronut after I asked the man behind the counter what is a cronut. "A croissant donut." He asked if I wanted it filled and I said sure. This was around 11:30 and with that said, the cronut was cold and kinda left an oily aftertaste. I had also bought a dozen donut holes and they, too, were cold and not very tasty.
