Very old retro feeling Donut shop. I have tried Stan's donuts more than once. This last time my hubby stopped by to grab a sampling so we could do a donut comparison to another shop. I must admit that the first time I tried Stan's ... I was not impressed. It was very underwhelming and I ended up tossing half of each of the three donuts I had purchased. I put it away in my thoughts to give it another try. Every donut was fully cooked but they all tasted like oil. I could not eat them. The only one o could remotely attempt was the cinnamon roll and even that after more than three bites was just too oily. The lemon filling was like padre and weird tasting and fairly lemon with a chemically artificial after taste (mixed with the cooking oil taste). Also... there was a strange pea nutty aftertaste to the oil especially noticeable when I tried the plain glazed. I will say they prove their donuts reasonably and the inside is cute on that run duwn diner sort of way. I really wanted the donuts to be great so that I'd have a spot go to for my occasional donut fix. I will say that compared to the other donut shop from across the street... Stan's is the better option. At least Stan's donuts are cooked (not raw) and reasonably priced. So... my search to find a decent donut shop somewhere in the area goes on.

Classic glazed & apple fritter

Donuts are not unhealthy because they feed my soul. These taste best warm (pop in microwave for 10-15 seconds). Apple fritter is HUGE. It is a bit too sweet, though. The classic glazed donut is so incredibly fluffy inside--makes sense it's their most popular item.

Hands down the best donut I've ever had. I am someone who is a mild connoisseur for a sweet treat and I definitely look like someone who won't say no to a donut especially not a Stan's donut. I recommend coming early; there's this phrase that goes the early bird gets the worm but in this case the early bird doesn't have to stand in a super long line... but also you really shouldn't be coming here on a weekend unless you're cool with getting in line for a while. But, can you really blame them they really are the best that's why the line is long. The donuts are super hot fresh and delightful no matter what flavor you get. I got original glazed and maple donuts and oh my God the best. This donut shop is cash only so be sure to get your cash, however they do have an ATM in the back but I recommend always having cash on you. The Ambiance is what it is, it's very simple it's a kitchen that cranks out Donuts it's not glamorous. I love the little sit down bar area though too! Old school vibes.

Monday morning at 8am! I was surprised to see no line as I've seen it all the way down the walkway til you reach CVS. I got their glazed, apple fritter, cinnamon twist, and jelly donut. All were super fresh, warm, and airy. So delicious.

Cinnamon Twists (they're so big, they require their own box!). One for each arm for bicep curls.

Famous for a reason! When I first moved to the Bay Area in the 90's, I came here now and then and loved it. Now, we live a bit further away, so it's not exactly a neighborhood donut shop. But I was headed to SoCal and decided I wanted family and friends to taste the best donuts in the Bay Area. I ordered ahead to be able to get what I wanted and that process was smooth and efficient. You don't have to wait in the line to get your preordered donuts, which is nice. The guy who took my order over the phone was nice, repeated the order back to me, and told me not to wait in the line when I came in. It's literally probably been 15+yrs since I've had these and they're still excellent. I ate a famous glazed at pickup and the special thing is they have some substance to them. Unlike a lot of glazed, these are both larger and denser, without being heavy or greasy. Yes, they're deep fried, but they don't taste oily. But one will fill a pretty good portion of your stomach (I had a chocolate croissant at home first, so it wasn't all the donut). Sweet, but not overly so. The cinnamon twists are huge, as are the raspberry filled and buttermilk. The old fashioneds are normal sized and the cake donut is actually on the smaller side, though it may just be because it's sitting next to gargantuans that it seems that way. I won't be able to eat all of them myself. Besides the glazed, I'll have a jelly filled and chocolate old fashioned, and I'll pilfer a part of the strawberry buttermilk from my nephew to taste. But everyone knows these are great donuts, so won't go on and on, but if you have out of town guests or family who's into donuts, this is definitely worth going out of your way to let them try these.

Fresh donuts daily. Crowded and busy and lively. Service is fast. Donuts are big portions and very soft and chewy.

Almost sold out at 2pm on Sunday. Grabbed a dozen of what was still available

Arrived at 1:50pm on Sunday and they were almost sold out of donuts. Grabbed a dozen from the remaining donut inventory and they were still delicious! The glazed donuts were sooo fluffy! I was told I missed out on the buttermilk & banana donuts, so next time I stop by im coming early and shooting for these two! Met up with some friends who've never had Stan's donuts before... and all were very impressed with how good they were.

Stan's Donut has some of the best donuts I've ever had. That said, be prepared to wait a really, really long time if you're just pulling up to Stan's without a pre-order. When I showed up to pick-up my pre-ordered donuts at 7:45 a.m. on a Sunday, there were well over 40 people in line. Although pre-ordering sounds simple in theory, it's really pretty difficult to get a hold of somebody over the phone. My wife and I each called about 30 times over the course of two days before we were connected with somebody who was able to take our pre-order. We ordered four glazed, one strawberry cruller, and one of their Sunday specials -- a banana buttermilk donut. Of the ones we tried, the glazed one was definitely the fan favorite. The brioche was light, fluffy, not overwhelmingly sweet, and not oily tasting at all. I usually feel a bit sluggish after eating a full donut, but that wasn't the case with the donuts here. Although I'm generally not a fan of cake donuts, I thoroughly enjoyed the banana buttermilk donut here. The outside had a nice crunch to it while the inside was not overly dense. It's definitely on the sweeter side, so you'll want to enjoy it with a cup of coffee. If you're looking for incredible donuts, do yourself a favor and stop by Stan's! It's a pain to pre-order, but you'll save a bunch of time with a bit of planning.

I find myself a doughnut connoisseur. I've tried every donut in the Bay Area. Let alone California. Stands donuts were absolutely amazing. We went later in the day and they didn't have much left, but what we did have surprised me. I would've never ordered a strawberry buttermilk, a chocolate bar or a maple bar. But my husband and I picked whatever was left went to a park. Had coffee and enjoyed the donuts. They were absolutely hands-down the best donuts I've ever had. I highly recommend stands. The strawberry buttermilk was like no other. I love buttermilk donuts, and I never would've picked strawberry, but all I could keep doing was telling my husband I can't believe how delicious this is. My new go to and definitely my number one in the Bay Area. Let alone in the United States! Cheers.!

I've had Stan's numerous times over the years and initially enjoyed their donuts but I probably won't be coming back. I've had more subpar donuts than great donuts here. I think Stan's is unpleasantly greasy. Yes, donuts are deep fried and not a health food but I don't think each bite I take should be gushing with oil. That was unfortunately my experience with the apple fritter which was the size of a frisbee ($3). It was adequately craggy and not too sweet, but I wish there were more pieces of apple in it. The glazed donuts ($1.90 for one, $18.50 for a dozen) were definitely better than the apple fritters but still a bit too greasy. I like how pillowy and plush they are though! Overall, I appreciate how beloved Stan's is even if it's not my favorite donut shop. The service was fine, they were efficient. There's a counter with some stools if you want to sit down and order a coffee. Stan's is cash only but there's an ATM inside if needed.

Stan's is a local Santa Clara favorite and I finally had a chance to try it during these donut wars. The line can be a little long, I waited 30min in line at 8am on a Saturday. Their glazed raised donuts are pillowy soft with a good chew. Even my bf who doesn't like carbs rated this a 10/10 donut. I'm still thinking about the lemon buttermilk donut and peanut butter filled chocolate donut honestly.. they are cash only, and offer classic flavors and I don't mind because their donuts are THAT good. Watching the cook cutting dough and frying donuts in the morning, it was a vibe. I will be back to try their other buttermilk donuts and glazed raised of course, it's no secret why they're a local favorite. They offer counter service if you want to dine in, but the store is small (4 counter seats). They do have an ATM inside.

Stan's is famously the Bay Area's best donut shop, but despite me being a Bay Area native, my first time trying it was only last week. We originally tried going on a Saturday morning but the line was just exorbitantly long, so we didn't even try. If there's one thing that people in the Bay Area love to do, it's standing in lines for popular food... I had a weekday morning off the next week and tried my luck on a Thursday morning at 11am. Significantly shorter line, albeit still a line out the door. It's a smaller shop, and they have a small area to eat actual food at the counter as well. Very quick and casual vibes, and cash only. Onto the actual donuts. Since I'd never been here, I wanted to try just the standard glazed donut. I ordered 6 (the maximum) because I was going to share some with my friends afterwards. The donut was extremely soft and fluffy, and all I could taste was sugar, and each bite kind of just dissolved in my mouth. It's a great donut for those who love the lighter and fluffier texture, but I personally like my donuts with a little bit more of a chew. I wished I could taste more than just pure sugar. Good donut overall because who doesn't love fried dough and sugar? But I probably wouldn't be willing to stand in a line for this, would probably only come when there's no line.

They are fast, consistently consistent, and they have the softest best dough. If you think you've had the best donuts give Stan's a try before you make that opinion.

Are they able to individually wrap the donuts for large party orders? And how far in advance do we need to put in a catering order?

Do they have Gluten-free 🍩?

Does anyone know if they're open this weekend?

Their website says they'll be closed on Monday, 9/5 only.

How much is 1dozen glazed?

$15, Cash Only!

Are the prices on their website accurate?

I purchased at least a dozen plus of all of my favorites for only $17. Pleasantly surprised:-)

What time do they stop making the donuts?

For phone orders do I need to still stand in the regular line for pick up?

Not in my experience.! You can go directly to the front.

Are there any dairy free options?

I don't know..... I always get the buttermilk donuts, ther are really good.

How do you get donuts hot out of the oven at Stan's?

Go in early after 1st bake.

No, you'll need to wait in line. You can only order ahead when is more than a dozen.

Has their system changed since the Shelter in Place? Are they letting people in to purchase or, preorder?

As of yesterday (March 25th, 2020), only 3 people allowed inside at a time. Their hours are now 6am - 2pm.

How's the line right now ? Can I call for pick up?

Weekends are usually busy in the am. If you want o pickup a dozen or more, I suggest calling ahead of time but for 1 dozen or less, walk-in is fine but you may wait a little bit.

Yes! Currently a chocolate covered donut with hearts sprinkles. I'd call ahead of time for availability

This isn't located in the historic Japantown where our draft party is. Good thing we started out early. We were still able to make it to this bakery and to our Draft party. I googled Japantown and came up with this bakery so I'm not sure how I ended up in the wrong place. This bakery is located in a Japanese Shopping Center with some many great shops and restaurants. I wish we had more time to check everting out. We did go to the market in the shopping center and picked up a 5lb bag of rice for under $20 so all is well. As for this bakery it was a total success. I yelped them and discovered they had strawberry sandwiches. I had my heart set on it. Strawberry goodness. A soft crustless white bread filled with fresh strawberries and cream. When researching this bakery I read some of the Yelp reviews and reviewers were saying that people wait outside their doors before they open so I was afraid they would be sold out by the time we arrived. We went on Sunday, September 6 at 1pm. There were so many trays empty when we arrived. I looked and didn't see any strawberry sandwiches. There was a line to check out when we arrived so I wasn't able to inquire about the strawberry sandwiches. I found another pastry that had strawberries in it and got in line. Standing in line as we got closer to the front I was able to see into the glass cabinet and saw one strawberry sandwiches as left. I prayed that the couple in-front of me didn't order it. They ordered a strawberry pastry from the case, but not the strawberry sandwiches. I was lucky. I snagged the last strawberry sandwich. When I ordered it they asked how many. I should have said 2 and maybe they'd pull another one out of the back. It was so good so two would have been the perfect amount to hold me over till lunch. Parking is a challenge. They share a lot with the whole shopping center and it's impacted. We drove around the parking lot 3 times before we found a spot. We even pulled around on the far side of the lot and checked out that area and it was all filled. Finally someone pulled out infront of us and we got a space. What a relief as I was getting really worried that we wouldn't get a spot.
