This place is under new management, I've been by many times before and quite frankly did not see anything that tickled my fancy. This time I stopped in, I noticed that they had array of donuts that actually looked quite good, and the interior looked bright and clean. I ordered a cronut " which the server forgot to put in my bag!" An apple fritter "crispy but very chewy and oily" And a custard filled maple bar. Now the maple bar IMO was quite good unfortunately they only filled the front and back part of the maple bar. Wifey ordered a cream filled croissant thing. (See picture) she said she liked it. The classic family owned/mom and pop donut shop that's been in business for a while. There's no seating inside but I did spot a couple of benches on the side of the building. I thought parking was going to be hectic due to Lion being in the same plaza, but there was plenty around the corner. They had a good selection of breakfast/ regular sandwiches. It was hard to decipher the prices due to it being updated multiple times with just a sharpie. I ordered a sausage egg croissant and old fashioned maple donut. Both MASSIVE and delicious! Half of the croissant down and I was already full, could definitely be a split meal. I came closer to closing time so they added complimentary donut holes and half a chocolate donut bar. I mean it with my whole heart when I say I would drive the extra 20 minutes just for these donuts. They're HEFTY but still fluffy/airy once you bite into them. Definitely a bang for your buck. Donuts here are really good. But to top it off the couple here are really sweet. I love finding Cambodian Donut Shops in the bay. I've come here a few times picking up boxes of donuts before work for my co workers and when I stop by Lion, I'll drop in for a few dozen donut holes, they also have them filled as well. On a hot summer day, they also have freshly squeezed sugar cane, a must have! It's a small shop on the corner but enough room to have multiple people in the shop to not feel crowded. The Donuts are Tasty here at Tasty Donuts, from a true Donut lover! Donuts are my weakness and I can tell you straight up the donuts are TASTY! (hehe) I first discovered Tasty Donuts when I stayed Marriott Townplace, I spot the huge "Tasty Donut" sign and had to make sure the other half takes me, even though hotel has complimentary breakfast, it is right across the street (I could've walked over) and we already had breakfast. I can't say NO to donuts! The older couple that runs Tasty Donuts is super sweet and friendly! Mom and pop, hole in the wall business. This recent visit noticed the Yelp recognition posted on their door. Congrats! Yelpers do love you on Yelp! The prices are low for a donut, $1.50 and its also huge! Besides the pastry, I noticed there are food photos, the fried rice looked good, aunty said she needs a day notice and she only can make the fried rice by the tray for $100. and not per order. There are so many varieties of donuts here, but my favorite all time is the maple donut. I only can have one donut and most times the other half can't have sweets so its just me. If my big kids were visiting, they would get in on the donut goods! The verdict, after biting in to that tasty donut, it is so soft on the inside with a nice lite crunch to the outside of the donut and it is not too sweet, unlike the other donuts I've had. Not Yelp's fault, but because of Yelp, I went out of my way to come here and even passed Stan's Donuts Shop (see my 5 star review) to come to support another small business. Atmosphere - Small local business with NO customer service skills. See below. Service - I was in an extremely good mood when I got here; see my 5 star Yelp review from Starbucks; Homestead, Santa Clara. The male owner was extremely rude. Started yelling at me when I walked in. I didn't really understand him; I thought he was just the type of person that talked LOUD. Then when he did NOT stop yelling, I got closer to listen to what he was saying. He said I needed to ask for permission to take pictures as he saw me taking pictures outside (for Yelp of course). So I asked for permission... But he would NOT stop yelling, kept repeating himself. His wife came out and I believe told him to calm down but he would not. I can understand if you are having a bad day, but this was extreme. I tried to explain that I was taking pictures for him for Yelp to support small local businesses. He would NOT let me speak. So I said "okay, I will just leave" as he obviously does NOT want my business or any of my Yelp followers' business??? Maybe you should take down all your Yelp advertising signs posted on your windows! So did the other 123 photos that got posted on Yelp get yelled at...? Did they all ask for permission? Do you have a sign posted that reads NO PICTURES? What about all your pictures on Google? How do you run a business this way?!?! How are you over 4 stars on Yelp?!?! Price - N/A. Owner Comment - Do you treat people and/or your customers the way you want to be treated...? Don't worry, I hope to NEVER see you again. Besides donuts, I was intrigued by the Cambodian menu. I really wanted to try the banh mi style sandwich. The lady behind the counter warned me about the wait time. Mmm... This was my first time here and I was carving some donuts. The staff are very nice and they have some of the freshest donuts you can find in the area with a great assortment! Food - I got the old-fashioned chocolate covered donut and a couple of the sprinkled donuts. The lady who took my order also added in 2 complimentary donut holes which I thought was very kind! Decided to stop by for a pick-me-up treat since I was working the weekend shift and this place was along the way. What caught my eye as I passed the store were the perfectly, fluffy looking variety of donuts and croissants. I told myself I'd only buy one treat. The question was whether to get a donut or a chocolate croissant. Hmm...decisions. The size of the chocolate croissant won me over (gotta treat yourself sometimes, right?). I was pleasantly surprised that the cashier included a free donut hole with my croissant as well. The chocolate croissant was pretty big, even bigger than the size of your average apple fritter. The croissant shell was perfectly crispy with a soft, buttery core. Instead of using chocolate bars, semi-sweet chocolate chips were used for the chocolate, so you can expect some chocolate with each bite! Parking is plentiful and is shared with Lion Market and other small shops and restaurants. My family and I have been buying donuts from the sweet husband and wife team here for most of my life, but I never thought about writing a review...it's definitely overdue. They're super nice and always remember us. They now have a massive menu, but I've always gotten donuts from them. More recently, I tried their spring rolls and it was super delicious and freshly fried in the mornings. I'm a simple girl when it comes to donuts, so I always get the classic chocolate donut, which is absolutely delicious and my favorite donut ever. It's not overfried, the dough is soft and fluffy, and the chocolate isn't too sweet. If you want something a little fancier, they have a ton of options. My bf likes their cherry jam sprinkle cake donut, and my parents enjoy the plain sugared donut. Or you can just get their glazed donut holes, which are also delicious! They sell out very quickly, so I would recommend getting there before 10AM if you want an assortment to choose from. Honestly, you can't go wrong with the donuts here-- they're all delicious. I was in a pinch so I decided to give this place a try. I've always driven past it and there have always been cars in front, so I figured "Why not?" That seemed pretty pricey, but then I looked around and saw that they were offering $20 rice plates, sugar cane for $8.50 (maybe $8 even), but I paid the woman and didn't think much else of it. I watched the gentleman make my food because I had nothing else to do. I finally got it and I understand why it's $9.00. It seemed quite a bit larger than most bagel sandwiches I've had. Excellent flavor, a little heavy on the pepper, but it didn't bother me, just immediately noticeable. They also threw in a few of their baked goodies to seal the deal for me. I don't know if that's their standard practice, or if it was my lucky day, or if it was just because I was their first customer. Nevertheless, the thought didn't go unnoticed. My friend who was visiting from out of the state came to visit me, and we came to Tasty Donuts since it was in the area and super close. We each ordered half a dozen donut holes, and ate a quick breakfast by ordering the egg croissant sandwich. There aren't veggie options, so I just had egg and cheese in mine. He had egg, cheese, and sausage. I think the cheese was not appetizing at all...at least use swiss or provolone instead of the gooey cheaper cheese. The awesome part is that the croissants are so crisp and huge...the yeast totally did its job. There were a few donuts left from the morning pickings, and they all looked good too. The donut holes tasted more oily and dry, so if you don't like the cakey kind of donuts...come and try theirs out. In all, I'd say the South Bay has a bunch of way better donut spots and unfortunately Tasty doesn't do it for me. The service is awesome...5 stars! The man working there is so cute, works so fast, and drops a few extra donut holes in your order--that's the way to do it donut folks! There is only hot coffee and no restrooms that I know of. A few indoor tables for seating, but most people just buy and go.
