Not cheap here, but good impression so far. You can feel it in the spacious interior with good vibes and positive staff members. It's a modern place to grab your small breakfast fix or matcha beverage and definitely a great place to chill. Public restroom is available. Pour your own water in back and toss your own trash. It's a popular spot, so long lines in the morning are expected. Good music playing in the background too. Smoked Salmon Toast $18 and Citrus Yuzu Lemon Tea $8. Yes, I dined inside for a good half hour. The salmon toast turned out much smaller in sourdough size and portions than expected. It was the smallest and finest thin toast I've ever had, but the flavors are very good for smoked salmon with the house vinaigrette and pickled veggie bits. It was unique. It's nothing like what you would have expected for a good smoked salmon toast. Food presentation was perfect. The lemon tea was also unique in basil flavors. It turned out to be one of the best citrus yuzu beverages I've ever had. Nice. This is worth revisiting again. I'm looking forward to trying out the sandos and matcha beverages in the future.

This place is so good. I came twice during my conference. My favorite items were definitely the breakfast sandwich and pandan butter mochi. Like I can't speak highly enough about this spot and wished they had a location down in the SGV or LA. Parking looks to be on the street. Service was quick and friendly. Would absolutely be back if i'm in town.

We came here for the shokupan but it was already sold out by 2pm. Definitely will come here earlier next time for it. We ended up getting the japanese egg salad sando and the smash burger sando. Very satisfying. It's a small place with seating but recommend to order for takeout. If there are open seating then you can stay and eat. Otherwise, you can just take it with you. That's what a lot of people did. The line move fairly quickly. Just need to wait a bit for the food to be ready. Love the Ghibli theme decoration inside. I felt like I'm back in Japan.

My family and I have been wanting to come here for an exceptionally long time but never got the chance due to Milk Belly never being open during the times that we normally go out to get food. One day, we decided that we've had enough and I decided to wake up early to finally get to try the supposedly legendary food that Milk Belly had to offer. The ambiance inside of the bakery is surprisingly much larger than it appeared on the outside, with an ample amount of seating that was unfortunately taken up by other people. There was also a line (which I didn't mind as much as it gave me some time to figure out what to get) and the servers were extremely busy (to the point where they couldn't take my order immediately because they had to sort out other things, which I don't blame them for) but also very friendly. We decided to get the Hong Kong Milk Toast, the breakfast sando, and the egg salad sando. The Breakfast and Egg Salad sandos were amazing (though the Egg Salad one did get a little bit messy) while the Hong Kong Milk Toast was just okay. We do have a preference of savory over sweet, but the Hong Kong Milk Toast just tasted like a standard peanut butter sandwich that happened to have a really nice milk toast texture. Overall, a nice experience. I do want to come by this place again, though I'm unsure if the hassle would make it worth it.

A fusion bakery that represents my two halves This place is well worth the hype! I was very pleasantly surprised with such rich flavor goodness. After taking two workout classes my friend and I decided to walk to milkbelly which we been talking about for months. It did not disappoint. I got the Japanese egg sando. A sandwich I often got from Japan in the convenience store. This sandwich brought me so much joy. The soft pillow like Japanese milk bread with the combination of rich creamy egg salad inside the bread was perfect combo. It really brought me back to Japan. I also saw menu a longanisa sando. I'll have to try that next time. I wanted a bit of sweet treat for after my egg sando and maybe my eyes were bigger then my stomach. I also ordered a fruit sando. I was pretty full after. I only took a bite. The fluffy rich creamy whip cream with golf ball sized strawberries were so scrumptious. I would get it again. Service! This place is very very popping expect a line and bit of a wait as everything is made to order. I think we waited about 30mins for our food to come out and waited 20 to 30mins in line to order. I would come either closer to opening which is 9am or around 1pm the line seemed to have died down a lot. The place closes at 3:30pm. Ambiance! It's very cute inside. The place was smaller than expected. They only have couple tables inside. So, it might be hard to find a seat. We got our food to go just incase we weren't able to get a seat. Luckily, found a spot after a bit of a wait. A repeat place for sure !

My wife brought me here since it was highly rated by someone on social media. I came with low expectations because I just personally am not a fan of dtsj, but was proven wrong. We ordered the Seasonal Smash Burger, Hong Kong Milk Toast, and Longanisa Sando. The 3 items ordered were all excellent in their own way. What surprised me the most was the Hong Kong Milk Toast -- I grew up hating peanut butter with a passion, but the hint of peanut butter didn't irk me. I thoroughly enjoyed it, the peanut butter wasn't strong and it was mixed with something sweet. The food took maybe 30 minutes to prepare, but it was worth the wait. We sat at the tables waiting and watched the workers cook and prep. The condition of dtsj changed over the years which discouraged me to come out here, but this is a place worth coming.

Worth the long line and hype? Fo sho! So the space is narrow-ish with a few tables for dine-in eating. Their display case has a good selection of unique pastries (bread pudding, large cookies, scones, and mochi cake bars). Their menu is relatively small but the items they offer are both familiar and different. Their Longanisa Sando is filling and delicious. The sandwiches use their house made Shokupan bread. It's such a light and airy carrier for their wonderful fillings. And don't forget to order their Potato Tostones before they sell out. Those are so addicting! Service is great from the personality point of view. Since the sandos are made to order in a pretty small kitchen, expect a wait for your order. Before entering, they have a note suggesting where to park for free. I wish I had known this before paying for 22 mins worth of parking. That time expired well before I was in front of the line to place my order. The result? A $45 citation on the car's window.

Came here on Valentines Day morning, i called ahead around 1:30pm bc i didnt want everything to be sold out. They said only their longanisa sando was sold out so went! There was a line inside and it took maybe 15 mins to get to front. The lady at the counter (probably the owner) was so patient with us as i told her it was our first time and i asked her a recommendation and she recommended the lemongrass chicken salad sando with chili oil and the breakfast sando for cold and warm sandwich. We also got the avocado toast and hot tea (green tea flavor). (They only have cold coffees which is fine!) I really enjoyed the lemongrass chicken salad sando! The chili oil added a small kick and the bread is so fresh and soft. I also liked the warm breakfast sando. The bacon is so crispy and pairs well with the buttery toasted bread and eggs! The avocado toast was good too! So much avocado! And the bread is crunchy yet soft. They do have tables inside, maybe people let others share the 4 seater tables, also a few bar spots. U buss your own table and there is filtered water! I will be back to try their egg sando and buy one of their milk loafs! Recommend!

Japanese egg salad sando, longanisa sando x2, Hong Kong milk toast, shokupan (half loaf)

The line surprisingly wasn't too long around 10am on a Saturday morning. We were lucky to get a table inside too, though they filled up quickly. Waited around 15 minutes for food to come out. We shared the Japanese egg salad sando, longanisa sandos, Hong Kong milk toast, and shokupan (half loaf). The Japanese egg salad sando was solid, I liked how the sweetness and freshness of the bread was really apparent. The longanisa sando was hearty for sure with the thick fluffy egg and thick patty. One half of my longanisa sando was great, but the other half was extremely salty though, I think the egg and patty in the second half was accidentally overseasoned or something but I couldn't eat it due to it being overly salted. Hong Kong milk toast was sweet and creamy with the condensed milk, butter, and peanut butter. Definitely hefty though, and I could only eat a few bites. Shokupan was a little drier than I expected. Overall I felt like the items were pretty heavy and I definitely felt bloated after. Would definitely recommend sharing these items. Glad I tried once!

The food here is so yummy! The vibes and decorations are cute and cozy. We ordered the Ham and Brie Toast & Longanisa Sando. Absolutely love that this spot is surrounded by my favorite places. Right next door is Fox Tale Fermentation Project and The City Fish! I recommend filling Milk Belly's ig page for updates!

I've been wanting to try this place out for so long!! I was able to stop by for a quick bite since it was super close to the VTA station. It wasn't very busy at all when I came on a weekday at around 10:30 AM. Their interior design is so cute, it has a lot of Japanese-inspired decorations which I love their staff is also extremely friendly and polite, I felt super comfortable there! The house milk tea was amazing; it came out pretty quickly and tasted very similar to royal milk tea from Japan (if you haven't had it, basically it has a deeper flavor profile than just sugary milk). I also ordered the ham and brie toast, which came out in 10 minutes with apples and micro-greens. It was a very flavorful mix of sweetness from the apple and butteriness from the bread! Overall I very much enjoyed eating here for the first time and will definitely invite some friends to come with me next time!

Shokupan Hong Kong Milk Toast

Visited Milk Belly Bakery and it was pretty busy! I love shokupan, and when I saw they had some, I wanted to give it a try. We ended up getting a full loaf of shokupan and the Hong Kong milk toast. Unfortunately, the toast tasted just like a peanut butter sandwich, nothing special. They're a casual breakfast spot. Overall, I thought it was okay, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

Milk Belly Bakery open at 9AM, I arrived at 10:15AM and there was already a line out of their door! They definitely a hot spot that everyone want to check out in DTSJ. This place is such a vibe, from Ghibli arts hanging on the wall to the shelf full of Twinkle Twinkle figures, it's so unique and artistic in it own way, especially their logo and sign, so adorable. Staffs were friendly and welcoming, the cashier was funny and telling us jokes while taking our orders. Even they were extremely busy the workers attitude were very chill, and their teamwork was efficient, everybody focus on their task and making sure orders were done correctly and being serve as fast as they possibly can. We waited for about 30mins in line and ordered: Breakfast Sando, Fruit Sando, Hong Kong Milk Toast, and Shokupan. It took about 15mins for the food to be ready but during that time customers can have a seat at either the bar and table section and watch how their open kitchen operate. I had the warmed Shokupan in store, at first I wasn't impressed, it tasted more like a thicker version of Korean Salt Bread, but later on the chewiness texture and the enhanced buttery taste kind of grew into me. Rest of the food was for to-go, both of the sando tasted amazing, the bread was soft and toasted to perfection! The egg inside the breakfast sando was so fluffy and soft, bacon was crispy. Meanwhile, the mandarin inside the fruit sando was juicy and sweet, the cream was so smooth and the almond layer outside really help add some texture to it. My favorite definitely the Hong Kong French Toast, that peanut butter jam mixed with condensed milk combo was heavenly, I usually like savory food for breakfast but I won't mind eating this as my first meal everyday if I can. Overall, it was a great first time at Milk Bell Bakery and I'm totally recommend you to try it out. I heard so many people raving about their potatoes and mochi, probably need to pay another visit soon. Fyi, after we left at 11:10, the line of people got double so...come as soon as they open to avoid the long wait. Parking is a little bit tricky since it's downtown SJ but the food, vibe, and service here totally worth it!

Can we go straight to the counter for buying the country loaf only or pre-order for pickup?

you can buy at the counter but depending on the time or day they might sell out.

Went on a saturday and before 3pm (the hours indicated on yelp) and the store was closed. can you update them to avoid this sort of thing?

We post updates on our instagram page when we sell out. It was very busy today and we sold out before 3pm. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Is it Saturday morning, 11am. They should be open. Yet when I try to place an online order through their website, it says unavailable. Can anyone clarify?

What brand do you use for the chili crunch or do you you make your own?

We make our own house chili crunch.

Are you still on DoorDash? You don't come up when I do a search?

Do you only take preorders or can we walk in and buy baked items?

There is a kiosk inside to place your orders. We do preorders for our mini pies and whole pies on our website.

Do you have indoor and outdoor seating?

There is indoor seating but it’s usually occupied by dashers/ Uber pickups. We are a ghost kitchen.

Which isn't to say this place is cheap; like many artisanal bakeries in California, it comes with a premium price tag, but at least it's not Dominique Ansel pricy.
