I'm so happy that they opened this location AND it's not on the main Downtown Willow Glen area, which is great for parking! There's a few tables inside, but this is also pretty good as takeout. Food came out within 10 minutes on a Thursday at noon. My personal favorite is the MAD CHICK! The fried chicken is incredibly tender/juicy every!! single!! time!! The flavor is soooo well done too. If you love Taiwanese popcorn chicken, this sandwich is for you! A perfectly balanced sandwich. I loooove it. The matcha is quite popular here, and I find it to be pretty decent! Oh my gosh. So darn good. I had this a few weeks back and have been craving to go back. An egg sandwich made perfect!!! Yum! I had the egg and avocado on a gluten free roll. And of course what is a sandwich without chips/fries, or in this breakfast case hashbrowns or tots? They were hidden on the menu, but after we placed our order we discovered the tots so we went back up and ordered those. I recently found this place for a quick lunch bite when I was in the area so I decided to stop by. We got the Mad Chick, Shrooms, and Dirty Tots. The mad chick was good, with a big piece of chicken but I was personally hoping for a bit more flavor so it fell slightly short. The Shrooms was also solid especially as a vegetarian option, but it was also pretty messy and difficult to eat as a lot of the insides fell out every time you took a bite. The dirty tots were very good though, they're loaded up with tons of toppings so I definitely enjoyed that. The service was also good and we got our food very quickly. Honestly a little let down with this one. There were some things I liked but some I didn't. For starters the shop was a little dirty and it was barely 9am, trash left on tables and some flies buzzing around. They weren't too busy either. The strawberry matcha was a little gritty and the strawberry puree was very jelly like and hard to mix so you essentially had to drink matcha with random chunks of strawberry. I had the B.A.E sandwich to eat. I did really like the bun which held up okay. The soft scramble was really nicely done also. The caramelized onions were a nice touch. It was a super creamy and soft scrambled egg on a big brioche bun. Very decadent and dripping out of the bun (get a spoon). I'm not much for creamy... Still yummy but felt like a soggy burger. The soft egg could have had more salt or more flavor? Next time, I'll order something more meaty inside to offset the super soft egg. Tater tots were part of their Valentines special but tasted cold and day old. You can see the inconsistency- some looked and tasted extra dried out. Wouldn't recommend. Matcha latte was decent and tasted high quality. Note: there's no sugar in it so if you like it on the sweeter side, ask for sweetener. There's seating inside but it was pretty crowded. 3.5 stars for my first visit to Mad Yolks. My friend recommended we meet for brunch at Mad Yolks on Meridian at Willow. It's located in a strip with a Starbucks. I don't know if it's a super minimalistic vibe on purpose or if they're just new and haven't gotten around to decorating yet, but the space has plain white walls, white tables, and hard chairs. I saw 8 2-tops and 1 4-top in the cramped space. We arrived at 11:00, and the place was packed shortly after. You order, pay, and pick up your food at the counter. They may want to adjust the seating and placement of the menu, as just having one large menu on the wall above the condiment counter by the register makes it very awkward, as people are trying to gain access to the counter, maneuver around the line, and get napkins and such all in one cramped space. The items on the menu were described well, and there was an Asian-adjacent vibe (Spam, Taiwanese Chicken, and Loco Moco influences). I don't know if they were related, but the menu, including serving sandwiches on brioche, were very similar to Egghead Sando. I ordered the Mad Chick and some tater tots. My friend got the BAE. We both appreciated the flat-bottom bags the sandwiches were served in. The food was good, but the logistics and lack of soda (and no ranch for my tots) were disappointing. A nice carbonated Diet Coke would've been great with my lunch. Mad Yolks offers fruity drinks but no fountain or canned beverages I'd give Mad Yolks another try, but I might wait a while to see if they figure out their flow better for a more enjoyable experience. read more

In fact it was so busy we couldn't even find a table and had to wait around awkwardly with our food in hand...seating is definitely limited during peak times. We ordered the B.A.E. and plain tots: B.A.E. (4/5): Those scrambled eggs are so fluffy and pillowy soft! I like how they're not watery either like at some other egg sandwhich places. This nutritious chicken product is also nicely seasoned, and the creamy avacado, melt cheddar, spicy aioli, and crispy salty bacon provide the perfect complement. However, the brioche bun tasted stale and dry! It was cut really thick too. Plain tots (3/5): These were pretty standard tots, they were served hot, crispy, and well-seasoned. However, they tasted like chicken...something tells me they use the same frying oil for the fried chicken and it needs to be changed. Overall, the food was decent but has room for improvement. I tried Mad Yolks for the first time in Santa Cruz & loved it, so I was really excited to find out they opened a location in San Jose! My hubby & I went around 12:30 and it was very busy & crowded but we got our food relatively quick. Service was friendly & helpful! Now onto the food... OH MY GOD! The fried chicken sandwich was insanely crispy, crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. One of the best I've had. The breading had a Japanese curry-like flavor which was so unique and tasty. My husband also loved his sandwich and tots. As a breakfast aficionado, I am thrilled to see the new Mad Yolks location doing so well! I'll def be back soon read more

When I heard that Mad Yolks opened a new location in Willow Glen, I went right away to check it out. One major downside is the parking situation. The parking lot is very small, and during busy hours it is almost impossible to find a spot, so be prepared to park farther away. Their sandwiches are huge and very filling. This time we ordered two large sandwiches. I had the BAE sandwich, and the scrambled eggs tasted fresh and flavorful without being overcooked at all. The Mad Chick, which uses Taiwanese style fried chicken. One bite in and it was packed with flavor. The BAE sandwich overall was excellent. Their brioche bread is top notch and has always been my favorite type of bread for breakfast sandwiches. You will definitely feel full after the meal, but not uncomfortably heavy. The propane/metal pipe smell of the restaurant as you walked in was weird, so we sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine. Love Mad Yolks. We would hit one of their Santa Cruz spots on occasion and were thrilled when they finally opened in San Jose - after a curiously long buildout. They've now been at it for months already but it took too long for me to file this review - sorry, guys. The good news is they seem to be doing great business out of this location so the bet on San Jose does seem to be working, which is awesome. The space is small but cute and efficient. I've previously favored the Avo & Tomato sandwich on prior visits but this time I had the Shrooms which was amazing. My daughter had the Classic which she liked as well. Both our sandwiches came with the eggs a little less done than we'd ideally have preferred so next time I'll specifically ask for my eggs to be cooked a little harder. But even as is both of our sandwiches were killer. The staff was super nice and omg their tater tots are exceptional also. My daughter liked her drink too. Great place. Come not around the lunch rush to avoid the traffic. For the price (~$16) I think the mad chick is pretty decent, but the dirty tots were not worth $6. The curry topping was so salty and goopy that it overpowered the tots and made the whole thing soggy :( I think if I'm ever craving a fried chicken sandwich or one of my friends wants to try this place I would consider returning. I heard Mad Yolks has amazing breakfast sandwiches and have been wanting to try the new location on Meridian Ave. Finally, this morning I had breakfast delivered from there. The food wasn't quite what I expected. For my breakfast sandwich, I chose the b.a.e., which is bacon, avocado, and egg. I didn't care for it. It was huge and had lots of scrambled egg, but the eggs were too soft for my taste and there was too much of the bland bun. Overall I felt there was nothing special about it. I prefer the egg sandwiches I make at home. On a more positive note, I also had the Alex's coffee, which is dark chicory iced coffee with vanilla and condensed milk. Ooh, it was good. I drank it fast and would have liked another one. Not too bitter, not too sweet, just perfect. I would definitely go back for another Alex's coffee, but will skip the breakfast sandwich. read more
