Smashed Benedict Sandwich
Cloud L.

I was excited from all the good review and decided to check out. Turned out the place was average and slightly disappointing. The shredded hash browns wasn't crunchy enough, egg benedict was overcooked and turned solid instead of being runny as it's supposed to be.

Turkey Avocado Sandwich with fries, yum!
Maria M.

I am so happy I found this little hole in the wall! Based on my usual, the Turkey avocado sandwich with fries, the sandwich is superb! The turkey is not your typical thin sliced turkey, they are thick and juicy slices. The avocado just takes the dish to another level. The fries are perfectly crunchy and have a great fresh taste. The customer service is awesome. The place is kept clean and has plenty of space. I am excited to say I will continue supporting this cafe!

Peanuts has been a tradition for me long before I knew I was a foodie, when I was just a college student looking for the cheapest meal and drink.... Just recently i started frequenting peanuts again and I tried their korean fried chicken and chicken teriyaki. Great portions and solid ingredients. Perfect for a quick lunch. During the pandemic peanuts closed and renovated... it looks so great and modern inside now! I'm so happy they kept the sorority and fraternity paddles. I'm happy to keep supporting them because they are a critical part of San Jose culture. whether you are there to drink some beer or fill your tummy with a hearty breakfast, you will always get great prices, portions and customer service. Love the new remodel and miss Minh.

I used to come to this place when I was going to college. Definitely decorated differently inside than it was before. The service was friendly. I went in the morning and just picked up a sandwich to go. Took over 20 minutes for me to get the sandwich which is a pretty long time considering there wasn't anybody else waiting. Might come back and try other things on the menu if I'm in the area.

This is cafe landmark for people who know San Jose or went to SJSU. This place been around over 20 plus year and just recently have a facelifts. Anyone who been to this place 5 years and older know the place was clean but old decor. Now they have finally remodel the place and it looks good. Here is my scoring card for this restaurant: 1) Location: ( 4 Point ) - Great location for customer to see and find. Great parking for street parking. 2) Decoration : (3 Point) - They finally have a facelift. Looks good. It I like the old style look. 3) Price: ( 4 point)- The price is competitive and quantity is great portion. 4) Quality and Taste : ( 3 point)- The quality is ok, food taste is good and the quality of the food were good 5) Type of cuisine standard : ( 4 point) - The style of American comfort food they serve is pretty close to the way it was prepare in here in the California. Not bad! But some dishes did have slightly modify to cater the customer's need Overall it's not bad and I thinks it's great to give it a try and let me know what you think. Chicken teriyaki plate. You could get it with fries or a salad

It was a great tasting meal. Plenty to eat and a great price. Friendly service and quick made to order food. I got the chicken teriyaki plate, it was good. Overall it was 5/5. I would repeat if I'm in the area. Thank you.

Nutella French Toast * BLT * Potatoes * Mimosa

Everything about this community staple from the super friendly staff and great diverse food to the chill environment where you can enjoy your food with ambient music while working on your computer! After being to many brunch places in SJ, this place beats them all. It's my go to!

Avocado Toast with country potatoes and sunny side egg

I am an SJSU student, and this place does the job with keeping a guy like me stuffed with food. They recently did a remodel and the place looks awesome. Highly recommend checking the place out to get some food and a beer. Today I got the avocado toast. SUPPORT LOCAL

May 2024 - veggie omlette platter
Sing M.

The 5 stars is for 3 of the of the diced onions which escaped from the veggie omlette and grilled with the bottoms of the eggs. Each one of the 3 onion cubes became a flavor-bomb after caramelizing off the oil and golden eggs. Also helping was that the grill here seemed to be well-cured. The marbilized cheese oozed out from between the eggs and greens, like lava out of the Kilauea volcano - more like mild American cheese and less like the smoked gouda from Safeway. The hash browns were creamy with butter blended into the moist mix; like the insides of a samosa. The toasty bread wedges would go well dipped into one of the specialized pancake syrups picked up beforehand from the downtown Grocery Outlet one block to the north.

Been coming here for years since I used to live nearby but ever since moving out of state wish I had a place like peanuts in my neighborhood! It's been a while since I visited and wow the renovation looks awesome!!! Don't sleep on their breakfast!! Honestly it's my favorite thing here but their other dishes are good too. For breakfast I like their burritos, pancakes, and omelettes. You can't go wrong with any of those! They also started making country potatoes and wow they were huge! Hash browns are a classic choice too. The owner is always very friendly and service is always great. It's an awesome place to go if you want a hearty breakfast especially if you don't want to wait! Plenty of seating and you won't be disappointed!

Chilaquiles Rojas
James S.

If you know me, I will always seek out a good breakfast place in a city or town that I visit. Thanks to Yelp for opening my eyes to Peanuts Deluxe Cafe. I was literally walking right by it en route to a different place, a half-mile away. Not gonna lie, it looked like a day bar or something not really for breakfast. But they were clearly open, a saw a sign about food, and so I glanced at the Yelp reviews A solid four stars, it said, and I agree. I've now been to Peanuts at least three times while visiting San Jose. I've enjoyed the Denver Omelet with hashbrowns and rye toast, along with coffee. Solid breakfast fare. However, they have more than that. Peanuts has an ambitious and approachable chef, and he's been trying out some specials. This last time there, I tried the Chilaquiles Rojas (with chorizo). Really satisfying, just spicy enough, and the red sauce had a good smokiness to it. Choose how you like your eggs - I can vouch for Over Easy. The chorizo works really well here, nicely merged into the Rojas. I was hungry, so this dish really filled the bill. Also, new (to me at least) was the red potatoes instead of the hashed browns. Infinitely more interesting, with great flavor. Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed their regular hash browns, but you can't beat the delicious flavors of onions and peppers to pop through these spuds. I really like the main guy behind the counter, too. Super friendly, and is happy to bring over more of that delicious citrus-infused water. Did NOT see that coming here, but wow what a great touch. Help yourself to coffee refills. Watch a game here, if you like. They close at 2 pm during the day. Check the hours for any time after that. By then, I've already headed out. Big fan of a place that seems like both a hidden gem and an SJ tradition.

They had some Fanime specials for the con (katsu and egg salad sandwiches, spam musubi), seasonal drinks, of course coffees and teas, and non caffeinated drinks, as well as some food too (heated up pastries, both sweet and savory). There's a restroom with a code and a couple seats and tables with outlets to charge your devices. Service was welcoming and efficient especially after the crowds started to pick up. I got the: 1) Egg Salad Sando: -You can tell these were handmade in store. They had cute washi tape to hold the packaging together. -Solid egg salad sandwich. Slightly sweet white bread and generous amount of egg salad inside the sandwich. Creamy mayo taste that isn't too sour or tart, lots of egg in it. Perfect for an anime con next door. 2) Cappuccino: -I got this no sugar and sugar free and it came out with some pretty latte art. I thought it was mostly ok and boyfriend thought so too, but after several sips and when it was too late since we really had to get to the con, it just became too disgustingly sweet for him and he had to throw it away. 3) Yuzu Fresh Fruit Sparkler: -Yuzu puree with sparkling soda water. -Refreshing and not bad, but even after mixing this was a bit sweeter than what I would have liked and again, in our rush to leave, we couldn't really get this adjusted. I ended up pouring most of it in a water bottle to enjoy later and put in my bag. But ended up not finishing it in the end. Maybe next year I'll try again or just stick to the food stuffs.

Parking is what you'd expect for downtown - either paid street parking or a nearby garage. The atmosphere is stylish and upscale, making it a great spot for a special night out. We ordered the mussels, flatbread, Brussels sprouts, and lobster noodles, and every dish was a hit. The mussels were definitely the standout - the sauce was so flavorful and unforgettable that we were tempted to ask for extra bread just to soak it all up. We also really enjoyed the cocktails. To top it all off, we were surprised with complimentary caviar cones from the restaurant, which was such a nice touch. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for celebrating with friends or enjoying a date night. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu!

Kinda a pain and I personally don't feel it makes much sense as I wanted something not on the pre fixe menu Food: Bruschetta - so tasty. It's a flavor bomb with the cheese, honey, and mortadella. Def recommend Kofta- not bad. I dunno if the meatballs really went that well with the hummus as it's kind of a dryer dip but I get what they were trying to do. The bruschetta was much better imo Crudo- solid crudo. I've had better quality fish but it still fairly good. Nice dish if you don't want something too heavy and want a lil citrus Scallops- really good but really pricey. Is 2 for $24 . Loved the way it was prepped tho and the wasabi cream sauce. Oysters- also good but also pricey @ $4/oyster. If you hafta make a choice I liked the scallops better Octopus: cooked perfectly. Loved the sauces and flavors as well. This was a big hit at the table Chicken: nice grilled taste but ultimately overcooked and dry. Flavor was ok. Prob wouldn't get again nor recommend Ny strip: solid steak with nice char texture and flavors. Nothin crazy crazy but way better than the chicken Ocean trout: imo the best entree of the night. It was cooked perfectly and the skin had a perfect crisp/flakiness Lobster tagliatelle: pretty meh. I think the sauce on the pasta was a bit bland. There also was barely any lobster. I'd skip this Lemon pie: the best dessert. It sounds basic AF but it's really a deconstructed lemon pie using lemon meringue on top. Def creative and tasty. Loukoumades: despite being recommended we prob felt this was the least fav dessert. The dough balls were a bit stale instead of nice soft and fluffy Chocolate sundae: reminded me of a chocolate mojito. It was not bad and the mint created another dimension to the desert but ultimately just way too much chocolate. I think it could be better if there were scoops of different flavors instead of all choc Overall, most of the dishes were great and we generally had a good experience. Some dishes were meh but def felt the majority were winners. Wouldn't mind coming back for a special occasion or nice dinner again when the menu is refreshed

When walking, we missed the restaurant initially because this place is clearly, a hidden gem, especially being hidden along the nightclub strip. We were blown away by the curated vibes. From the thoughtful decor to The Office being projected on the wall. It felt hip, fresh and refined. We decided to craft our own drinks - Arnold Palmers, his favorite. But they only had sparkling lemonade, which actually made it even better. We shared a salad that had some cooked pears and squash alongside the greens, walnuts, cranberries and blue cheese. I do feel like the cooked sweet elements overpowered the salad with their sweetness and textures a bit. Wondering if a refreshing pear for crunch or more dressing could have brightened it up and provided a salty, sweet balance. I ordered the Short Ribs with a parsnip purée and roasted carrots and it did not disappoint. Everything paired beautifully together, perfectly salted and cooked. I finished the entire plate. Dad got the Pork Chop and while it was overcooked, he loved the flavors happening in the dish and was pleasantly surprised by the refreshing treatment of the kale. It was the perfect spot to enjoy the fresh air and made for a really relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant has a great vibe overall, especially if you're looking for an outdoor brunch. (Have not been inside) I ordered the steak chilaquiles, and I'd give them a 8.5/10. The flavors were really good, the sauce was delicious, and I liked the addition of the eggs, avocado, and queso. My only complaint was the steak. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out medium well, a bit dry and was tougher than expected, making it difficult to cut. It was still tasty--just not cooked quite the way I was hoping. The mimosas were good too, a great value. Nothing that really stood out as amazing, but definitely nothing bad about them either--they got the job done. What really elevated the experience was the service. Our server Rebecca was attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and incredibly quick throughout the meal. They checked in at the right times, answered our questions confidently, and made us feel well taken care of without ever being overbearing. Overall, I'd come back, especially to sit on the patio again. With a more tender steak, this meal would've easily been an 8.5 or 9 out of 10!! :)

Our server Charles was really great. He walked us through the menu giving us the 911 on watch to order. Most of the plates were perfect shareable bites. Making it easy to try multiple plates and really get your inner Foodie on. We started with the Seasonal Banana Pancakes with crushed walnuts and cinnamon maple syrup. Inside the pancakes were fresh bananas and the walnuts were crushed very small but added a great texture. Moving on to the Chicago Steak sandwich don't get confused but in Chicago they refer to Roast Beef as steak. The Au Jus dip was very flavorful without being a salt bomb. For my family of three we definitely got over excited in order too much, but each bite was delicious. We got a leek quiche, a banana latte, spinach, artichoke danish, mango croissant, almond croissant, and a ham and cheese croissant. I was trying to increase the protein to not spike my blood sugar. Lol. I'd have to say the mango and the almond croissant were probably my favorite. The strong second would definitely be the artichoke and spinach croissant danish thing. Sorry, I forgot what they called it. They offered to heat it up a bit and I definitely recommend this. They did the perfect temperature for the perfect timing. Just enough to make the outside flaky and the inside warm and soft. The pieces that had cheeses were so much better warmed up. They definitely know what they're doing there. Seating was great. I'd love the decor. You can also order off of a menu, but we were too enamored with the actual pastries to even glance at it. I took photos but made sure to not take photos of the staff. I let the staff know that I wouldn't include their faces without their permission. they were very friendly and very appreciative. My family loved your little shop and we will definitely be back when we're in the area.
