I usually catch them when they do morning pop-ups at Pour Decisions or when they are at the Japantown Farmer's Market in SJ. They have one breakfast sandwich on the menu and honestly that's all they need, it's called the 408 Breakfast Smash. The breakfast sandwich is a smashed ground pork patty with grilled onions, American cheese, fried egg, hash sauce and syrup served on an English muffin. This is one of the best breakfast sandwiches that I've ever had. The hash sauce and syrup go well together with the sausage and grilled onions, you get that savory and sweet element and nothing is overpowering. The sausage is great and I love the crispy edges. The service here is always top notch, the guys are so friendly and personable. I love it. I definitely recommend coming here for a good breakfast sandwich. They were in front of Chromatic coffee today and couldn't not stop to try after smelling the amazing food being made. They only had the sausage breakfast sandwich available so that's what my friend and I got. Bursting with flavor and so good! There isn't a lot of space to sit outside so we took it home. Solid breakfast sandwich bursting with flavor. Been following them on IG for quite some time and was dying to check them out, finally made it while they were at Chromatic Coffee over a weekend. Service was friendly, they gave us the rundown - one breakfast sandwich, but you could make it a double or add jalapenos. We opted for the single and my boyfriend got the jalapenos while I kept it OG. As someone who eats a pretty big breakfast usually, a single wasn't enough, I would definitely add an egg or make it a double next time. This is a breakfast sandwich and it's simple, yet delicious. I feel like some are expecting some mind blowing experience, but how different are you going to get with a breakfast sandwich? Don't get me wrong, this sandwich was delicious and the food was fresh. They were at Academic Coffee and when I arrived there wasn't a line. They were super easy to find by just checking out their IG page. The guy who took my order was friendly and their cooking station was clean. A positive start to my experience. The order was ready in less than 10 minutes and I decided to take our two sandwiches and go because the line for coffee was long and not moving very quickly. I'm glad I did, so we could enjoy them while they were still piping hot and fresh. The English muffins were lightly toasted, so there was a nice crispy edge and a softer middle. The mayo had a slight kick to it and it was a good amount, not too much or too little. There was a small amount of caramelized onions that added just a touch of sweetness to the sandwich. This balanced well with the savory flavors. The sausage patty was large and thin, so they were able to get the edges crispy, which I liked. The egg was perfectly cooked, with the yolk just slightly soft in the middle, but not runny. And of course, I had to order extra cheese, which they delivered on. I left a 25% tip and ordered two sandwiches with extra cheese. My total was $30.63. If I am receiving fresh ingredients and the food is made well, I don't have a problem with spending a little more. We have had Hash n Dash on our list for a looong time but of course, due to their popularity, they always sell out by the time we get there! It's been a long year of waiting and unfortunately, the breakfast sandwiches were a little disappointing. We ordered the Breakfast Sandwiches with Sausage Patties- the flavors were good and I can tell that they can be better if cooked with more care.. The buns were completely burnt versus nicely charred, the eggs were not cooked over easy as we requested and were overcooked, the grilled onions that we salvaged were delicious, but again, mostly burnt.. We really enjoyed the location of this pop up- there is a lot of space next to the community garden! The best on a sunny morning/early afternoon! Found these guys close to a year ago. Probably the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Something super simple, but super delicious. The syrup drizzle makes the perfect topping. If they have jalapenos, but try those. They're always fresh and have the perfect kick. They do various coffee spots in San Jose and Campbell, but I don't mind the 20 minute drive for this sandwich. I had a training in San Jose today, I was so glad to have the excuse to hit these guys up finally. It was like 8:15am when I got there, and it looked like they weren't open yet. There was some guys cutting some trees right next to where they had set up. Nice that they stopped production. To you know, not have tree particles in our food. I think it was a little after 8:30 when they started taking orders in preparation of cooking when they guys were done cutting the tree down. I got my food at 8:45, it was a little out of order, but it was fine. I ordered a regular breakfast sandwich. It was about $12. I will say, make sure you get your napkins. It is messy. It's giving, upscale McGriddle. Delicious. But so messy. I thankfully had napkins in my car, because I forgot to get some from the guys. Delicious. Would for sure return. read more

Been following Hash and dash on IG for awhile now. I did try once before to grab their sandwiches but they sold out right before I got there. Finally made it to Japantown Farmers Market early enough on a Sunday to grab a breakfast sandwich. I was able to check their IG and they were running a special. So I mentioned it when I got there and he knew all about it. Anyways I got the single smash breakfast sandwich with bacon and a double smash. Jalapenos was also an optional add on. Waited about 5-7 minutes for my sandwich. Japantown has these picnic tables around the market so I was able to enjoy it right there. It's definitely best enjoyed hot and fresh. Pork sausage smashed thin and cooked well and slightly crispy. Then an egg, grilled onions, cheese, aa spicy aioli and maple syrup, all served on a toasted English muffin. The muffin is muffin sized so small with all the ingredients spilling out. It's a semi messy sandwich to eat but if it's good, who cares. It is a little bit on the smaller size, for a filling meal and for the price. But taste wise, yummy. I would get this as a treat every once in awhile. read more

I'm not fond of going to DTSJ. When I do, it's because there's a function at San Pedro Square, or I'm there for a convention. So in this instance, I was there for FanimeCon. I was there early enough for breakfast, so I decided to cheat and finally have this smashed breakkie sando that I've seen all over my Instagram, and I don't regret it at all. I had the 408 Smash. A smashed burger, bacon, and a perfectly cooked sunny egg with some syrup and orange sauce smashed beautifully in an English muffin. The end result is ooey gooey goodness. The combination of the bacon with the syrup really added some oomph to the flavor, and while I'm not a fan of sandwiches that get messy, it made up for it in deliciousness. If I had to nitpick, I'd want some more seasoning on the meat. It doesn't have the smoky burger flavor of a SmackBurger but maybe that isn't the point. So I won't dock them for things I usually do. They were right in front of academic coffee across from Valley fair when we tried it, which means that there was plenty of outdoor seating. There was only one choice of a breakfast sandwich to order, and it was fairly simple with a smashed patty, onions, cheese and sauce on an English muffin. I saw that some reviews compared it to a McDonald's McMuffin, which I don't necessarily think is a fair comparison, given the fact that it was so much more fresh and delicious. With that being said, it was also significantly more expensive and I'm not sure the price is quite justified given the simplicity of the product. read more

I was so excited to try this spot, but I was left disappointed. I came in around 11:30am on a Saturday to their Red Room pop up and they were completely sold out of their breakfast sandos. I had saw on IG that they would try to not sell out and if they did we would be offered a voucher for next time. I also did not see a post of them selling out of the breakfast sandwich either. Anywho we were not offered a voucher and decided to order their smash burger since we drove 20min just to try the spot. Smash burger 2.5/5: The smash burger was so expensive for the size and was nothing special. The flavor was decent but it was not worth over $10. I stopped by earlier today to visit the brick-and-mortar location. I had a breakfast sandwich years ago, back when they had a pop-up at Hapa's. It was decent back then, but now it's *delicious*. I asked for a menu when I arrived, and they were like, "we have one item, breakfast sandwich". Ummm okay, what's on it? Sausage? Okay. But all was forgiven when I tasted it. The pictures do not do it justice. The sausage is perfect, and the sandwich is juicy with a kind of maple syrup ( but less thick, almost like an au jus). I used to go to their chromatic pop ups all the time. Although I am sad they are no longer close to work, I am happy they now have a brick n mortar location located inside the Rec room in DTSJ. Parking is not all that great, but hopefully you can score a street parking when visiting. If not, walk a little but park on the 2nd street garage behind the lot infront of the store. I personally have not been to this location, but my co workers did go to pick up an order for us yesterday. It was everyone's first time and they were all impressed and wouldn't stop talking about it all day at work. The 408 sandwich is one of it's kind. The sweet n saltiness along with the creamy sauce is just a perfect marriage. I will happily spend the money to eat this smash burger style english muffin!
