The vibe is chill with a great play list. Every one in there was kind professional and friendly. But the real star is the food. Absolutely amazing. I am not from the Bay but I will be back.

I wanted to like this place so bad, especially with the abundance of 4 and 5-star reviews. But I think that was part of the problem. I went in with really high expectations. To me, the food ended up being just okay. It definitely wasn't bad, but a lot of it was dry and pretty average when it came to seasoning and flavor. Now, you might be thinking, "What do I know about good BBQ?". To be fair, I'm not claiming to be a BBQ expert. But I do know I've had BBQ at other well-known spots around the Bay Area and even in Texas that was much more flavorful, juicy, and moist. FOOD: 7/10 A lot of us ordered brisket-based dishes, and unfortunately, the brisket was pretty dry. Even after dipping it in their BBQ sauce, it was still dry, the sauce mainly just added flavor. For my sides, I got the potato salad and coleslaw. The potato salad was good! The coleslaw, however, was pretty mid. It mostly tasted like plain cabbage and could've used a bit more flavor. The cornbread had a nice, slightly toasted exterior, but the inside was very dry and crumbly, making each bite fall apart. I was especially excited to try the banana pudding because I'd been craving it for the longest time, and thankfully, it didn't disappoint. It had that classic creamy pudding texture, the vanilla wafers were perfectly soft, the whipped cream was smooth, and overall I really enjoyed it. SERVICE: 9/10 Ordering is done through a QR code on your phone, and the staff brings everything out to you. We had barely submitted our order when our drinks and dessert arrived, and our entrées followed shortly after. Everything came out surprisingly fast. We also had the chance to meet Juju, who is Jackie's cousin (Jackie is the owner and chef). If you look at the menu, there's actually a section featuring Juju's specialty teas and juices. She was honestly the sweetest and funniest person. I absolutely adored her! She was so fun to chat with and shared that a lot of well-known Bay Area names have stopped by Jackie's, including LaRussell, E-40, and members of the 49ers. It was such a nice interaction and definitely one of the highlights of our visit. AMBIANCE: 7/10 The restaurant is simple and spacious with plenty of different seating options. If you're looking to grab a drink, they also have a bar area. The restrooms are downstairs. The sink and toilet were kind of going through it but they got the job done. There's parking available both upstairs and downstairs. Just be careful because the parking spaces are pretty tight and narrow. Overall, I can definitely see why people enjoy this place, but for me, the BBQ just didn't live up to the hype. I'm glad I got to try it for myself. It was definitely a situation where you need to try it for yourself despite the reviews.

The real deal! Southern fried fish plate with green beans, candied yams, and cornbread.

What a great find. Conveniently located near downtown San Jose, this soul food spot serves up all the classics. Each one that I had I would order again: the southern fried fish plate with green beans, candied yams, and corn bread. Some in my party were clearly veterans and ordered a bunch of food to go. The sweet potato pie was the star of my show. ON POINT. Smooth texture, spicy with a hint of caramel (maybe even citrus), perhaps on the sweet side for some but I loved it, While you order from a QR code at the table, the service is still good and prompt. (There was one server who was really curt, but there was a whole battery of help which meant my overall impression was favorable). Spacious dining and great atmosphere.

The first time we had a taste of Jackie's Place was for a take out since my son in law and daughter were raving about it. Because the take out experience was so good, we decided to dine in this time. Came on a Saturday afternoon with no reservation. Had to wait about 15 minutes to get seated because this joint gets really packed. Parking is available in the back of the complex which is very tight space. Once you get seated, you can either order through scanning their QR code or line up by the cash register to order. For this visit, the ribs were not available as they sold out so what a BUMMER. Our food for both the take out and dine (on separate occasions) were as follows: * Smoked beef brisket * Fried Chicken wings * Hot links * Key lime pie * Uncle Greg's ribs - so good and I was a bit frustrated when it wasn't available during our dine in experience * Smoked BBQ Chicken * The Juju * Banana Pudding * Butter Pound Cake * Chicken & Waffles * Honey Butter Cornbread - never miss to order this because OMG this is really really good My thoughts: * The Best Bites: Uncle Greg's Ribs and Fried Chicken Wings * Don't Miss: the honey butter cornbread * The Vibe: chill and casual, spacious and family friendly * Patience required especially on weekends. Wait can be longer because they are really popular. * Portions are huge and they are reasonably priced as well Never miss the opportunity to try Jackie's Place! They have 2 locations in San Jose. I had jury duty for 3 days at SJ Superior Court and had to find lunch places during my time on the jury. Luckily, Jackie's Place is within walking distance from the courthouse. I like a good BBQ and this was very very good. I ordered the beef brisket sandwich with coleslaw as my side. The meat was very flavorful and VERY tender, which was great, because I was eating standing up due to reasons that aren't necessary to explain. But it was easy to take bits off the meat without having to put the entire piece into my mouth - you can see it's cooked well, but still so tender. And tasty! The bun and coleslaw were also good - big portion of coleslaw! But the star of the show was the beef. $19 for the sandwich + coleslaw, which I thought was fair given the quality. I ordered at the counter as take-out, and it took while (15 min?), but it was worth it. The person who took my order was friendly and cheery and the place looked clean and like it would be a fun place to eat had I had the time to do so. So would love to come back many times and try a lot of things on the menu.

1st time here and the food was great. A family owned gem , hidden downtown that offers great bbq and atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming! Brisket was tender and had a good smoke ring ;paired great with the bbq sauce. Fried chicken was amazing with hot sauce.(it was super crispy and was freshly cooked ; nice and hot !) Fish n chips were seasoned well and just fell apart when you bit into it. So good! The sides were all delicious....cornbread hit the spot. Going to have a drink at their bar seating area next time they had a great selection. They made us feel like family here! Great for hosting events too ( large party seating available)

Hot Link with corn bread, Mac, fries, and a side of their mustard.

Ordered the hot link plate with a side of fries, mac and cheese, corn bread, and mustard. It was all very good, no complaints. Its even better when reheated in the air fryer, especially the corn bread. Partner got the brisket nachos. Again, very good. Great texture and mix of flavors. Their green sauce tasted fresh. We went during Fanime weekend so the wait time was very long (20+ minutes), but im not holding that against them.

We had jackie's place for takeout this time around with friends who live in the area. I decided to try the fried fish while everyone else got pulled pork and brisket. I made the bad decision of getting the fish as it was too thin and more batter than fish. The brisket and pulled pork were amazing and so tender! The candied yams, mac n cheese, beans and beef, etc etc were all so well made! This is the only place in the bay to get amazing bbq without the long line!

Stopped by to pick up a meal. I had order this from To good to Go. I got a nice sample of some of the different meats. Tender and smoky brisket and a couple of hot links.it also included a corn bread muffin. The sides were mac and cheese, and sweet yams. Both tasted great. It was very well organized. They also threw in free sweet tea. There was enough brisket to make a nice fat sandwich for lunch

OK so first let me start by saying that as I pulled into the parking lot and got out of the car I was so ecstatic to try this food. It smelt so good and reminds you I was super hungry. One of the things that rubbed me the wrong way was the fact that you had to pay before you got your food. There are QR code sitting on the table with the menus attached and that is where you pay. If you would like water, you can go get it yourself. If you want to go containers, you can go get it. Yourself and silverware is prepackaged on the table. Bathroom down a flight upstairs into a basement. Customer service was nice. Now let's get down to the nitty and greedy this food... For someone that was extremely hungry I was not a fan at all whatsoever of this food! This food made my stomach hurt and I barely ate any of it. Once I broke this chicken apart I determined that I looked a little odd however looks can be deceiving. Therefore, I proceeded to taste a little small piece and from there I realized that my chicken taste like chicken. If you know, you know what I'm talking about. The gentleman that came about to help me out suggested making me a new plate and bring it out out. I respectfully decline as I have a very sensitive stomach and I did not want to risk getting ill. Will I be back? no. The watermelon lemonade taste like Crystal lite packaging with tons of water. I will say that there are a lot of parking slots in the lot.

We came in around 6 PM on a Sunday, they close at 7 PM and they were still pretty busy. Juju was greeting customers and she was very friendly. We were sat quickly. You order on your phone and pay before the food comes. They were out of quite a few things, probably because they are closed on Monday and Tuesday. Anyway, I ordered the following: -corn ribs, very tasty and seasoned well. I ordered set it off sauce with this and they gave me ranch instead, so I had to go ask for it -jackfruit sandwich, a generous amount of jackfruit, but the bun was very burned and left a charred flavor in my mouth. They also said they don't have pickles, which I thought was odd for a BBQ place. -my partner ordered brisket and rib tips, he enjoyed it. I don't love the ordering process because if you need something you have to get up and find someone. So I guess it's more like fast food. However, there are plenty of people around to help and they are friendly. Clean inside and they have a self-serve water station. Lots of seating inside, vegetarian options, and a patio!

Wow, I haven't had takeout this good in a while! My daughter and SIL decide to treat us for dinner one Saturday night and decided on trying out Jackie's Place. A popular San Jose spot that's been in my Yelp go-to list for a minute now, as Jackie's Place is known for authentic soul food and Texas-style BBQ. Our food was: * Fried Chicken Wings. The best breaded DF wings I've had in SJ * Smoked Beef Brisket. Dry but tastes best w/ JP's Orig BBQ sauce * Uncle Greg's Ribs. Savory & probably the best reason to come here * Smoke BBQ Wings. Didn't get to taste as my SIL devoured it * Hot Links. Just the right delicious heat from a sausage * Honey Butter Cornbread. OMG! Said this cornbread hating fella * Butter Pound Cake. Looks unappealing but oddly moist and tasty * Banana Pudding. Smooth serving of creamy dessert * Key Lime Pie. Dominated by sweetness, but balanced w/ the lime . The Juju (cherry and grape Kool-Aid). Tasted like medicine :) We kept raving about it the food while eating and after eating. Even the next day, we were still talking about the ribs and cornbread. FYI. There were a lot of leftovers as we ordered a bunch and JP's has generous portions. The food was deeply flavorful, hearty & high-quality. DO NOT forget the sauces. Surely coming back for a dine-in meal to try out the cocktails, the sides and the other items ie the Smothered Chicken and Mac & Cheese. Jackie's Place is an amazing locally owned establishment in the South Bay.

I was excited to try this place and had high expectations going in. The setup is a bit different--you're seated and then order using a QR code at the table. I did have a few questions but wasn't able to find any wait staff to assist. I ordered the rib plate. While it was good, I was expecting a bolder flavor overall. The collard greens were nicely seasoned with a bit of spice, though there was a large piece of fat in the bowl. The red beans and rice were well-seasoned, but the portion leaned heavily on rice with fewer beans than I would've liked. On a high note, the cornbread was excellent. The fish was well seasoned. I also tried the peach cobbler--it was just okay. When I went to the to-go counter, the staff seemed a bit bothered, as if I was interrupting their conversation while waiting to order. Overall, I left feeling a little disappointed, especially since I came in with such high hopes. That said, it may have just been an off day.

The location that we went to is located next to Maggiano's Little Italy in Santana Row on Olin Ave. There is a free 2 hour parking structure across of the restaurant where my boyfriend and I parked at. We came during their Lunch Specials (until 4pm) and Happy Hour (from 3-5:30pm) which worked perfectly as we wanted something smaller in portion compared to the dinner portions. We started off with drinks. I got their Pig Ol' Bitties Blonde Ale, and my boyfriend got their Friday Beer & Shot special of This Little Piggy Went to [Mark]et with a 16 oz Dirty Little Pig IPA and a shot of Benchmark whiskey. My fault for having him get a whiskey shot on an empty stomach, though HAHA. He did like how smooth the whiskey was at least! We shared a 2-meat BBQ Lunch Combo Plate, and honestly, we should have gotten 3 meats because of how tender and delicious everything was! We got their Tri Tip and Sliced Brisket with their Garlic Mash and server recommended Sweet Potato Tots. Ahhh, everything was so good! Aside from the tender, flavorful meats, the two sides, especially the garlic mash, were sooooo good. We both loved everything! It was definitely a great choice coming during lunch as we were quite full after ordering one of their happy hour shareables of Chips & Queso (kind of pricey even for happy hour in my opinion for chips and cheese). Honestly wished we got their Chili Cheese Fries or their other fries which were the same price than just chips and dip LOL. But it was a good hold over food with us drinking a bit (at least for me). Shoutout to the only server who was working on a late Friday afternoon as she was doing her best to accommodate everyone + trying to clean up the previous tables. It was kind of sad seeing that the other workers didn't help bus the tables in my opinion. Overall, a great place to watch sports and have some good whiskey as this restaurant is known for their whiskey selections! The lunch BBQ exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely come back for another lunch special meal but probably with 3 meats this time!

I ordered one of their meal packages, plus some extras on the things we needed more of. the meal package was supposed to include 2 types of bbq sauce plus ranch for the wings. they didn't give us any of the bbq sauces or the ranch. considering they charge $5 each for sides of sauces, that's $15 they shorted me. so we had dry chicken wings with nothing to dip them in... which means nobody wanted to eat them. there's another $25 I was out. we ended up having to use the bottled sauces that I bought as a gift... another $20 gone. pulled pork was fine. the brisket was pretty tough. my dad usually loves leftovers and didn't want to keep any of it... so that said a lot about the meal all by itself. the positives (?): cornbread was pretty good. wolf turds were good (though crazy expensive for what they are - only 2 come in an order for over $10). mac and cheese was good, though it has far less meat than it used to. all in all, not a positive experience. seems like they've really gone downhill. if you order to go, check your order carefully before you leave. they had everything ready when I got there and had tied the bags shut (double knotted), so it would have been hard to get them open. do yourself a favor tho and take the time to open each bag. it sucks to get all the way home and find key items were left out.

I've been to 3 others Redwood City BBQ, South Winchester BBQ (San Jose), and Canyon's BBQ (Castro Valley) and I've reviewed most of those quite favorably, except for 1. But they have about 4 others that I haven't been but are on my list. I guess now I'll know they are more the same than they are different. I knew walking in that I was going to like it. A strong aroma of wood smoke hugs you upon entering. A cool mural outside, lots of beers and bbq on the tables, cool tunes that was all over the place genre wise. 2 Meat Combo ($26/4.5*) Crazy solid combo. Not as juicy as I would prefer but between the perfect smoke content and their seasoning just makes me happy enough. Brisket: Their brisket is awesome. Not as juicy as some of the top notch places here in the Bay, but the flavor was perfect for me. Assertive smokiness without being overbearing. Get a piece with a good layer of fat and it was basically hearty beef bacon. I rarely put sauce on brisket but theirs is not bad, maybe just a dot or 2. Ribs: Also drier than what I like but the flavor and meaty texture was enough for me. Definitely have to pull these off the bone a bit, does not easily fall off, which I actually prefer. I like toothsome versus mushy meat. These ribs do have a layer of bbq sauce cooked into them, so it has a sweet and tangy flavor already in it. But they still can accept extra sauce, as it will not only moisten the ribs further but it will amp up the tang and sweetness that pork ribs are natural for. Tried 2 sides, beans and coleslaw. The beans aren't the super sweet kind, which I liked. More chili-like very hearty and complimenting to the smoky bbq. The slaw was perfect, crisp with a creamy yet slightly sweet dressing. Crazy good, I could actually eat their sides alone as a meal. Their corn bread here is strange. It is cooked in a sheetpan and cut into squares much like a brownie. But that square is then griddled til golden brown so I totally thought it was garlic bread at first. The other bbq spots I tried from this same company didn't make corn bread like that, so this was a first for me. Probably the only miss for me here. Also tried a half pound of Tri Tip ($20/4*) Very meaty that they were able to keep it a nice pink medium, which I like. But much milder in smoke than their brisket and ribs. I ended up making sandwiches with these at home. They are sliced pretty thick so you may have to slice some of them further. It bites easier in thinner slices versus monster thick slices that will pull out of the bread with each bite. I learned that on this out so just throwing out a tip. A solid bbq throwdown with a cold frosty one, plus lots of leftovers for work lunches the next few days, is just an out I can repeat over and over. Glad I found this spot!

Great place to come with friends to drink and eat good food!…read more Yes, its a bit pricier than normal skewer places, but i love the ambiance and vibe in here! super cyber-punky and sometimes they have live singers here! You cant really find a skewer place with this type of vibe, def a spot i like to take my out of town friends to for a good time I love getting the fried tofu skins, this is my favorite skewer to get. I actually prefer the regular skewers than the mini skewers just because the mini is so small you have to really bite into the metal stick (which can stab your mouth if your not careful, especially if you end up drinking too much) razor clams are bomb here! Yes they add hella chillies in here so you have to pick it out, but its hard to find places with a razor clam dish that is super tasty and flavorful The alcoholic drinks here are super unique and interesting, my method is to go for the cutest branding, and just order it, and suprisingly it ends up working in my favor LOL my favorite part, is the seasoning they use on all the skewers! that classic chinese taste :D

This place has such fun decorations and I love all the neon lights here as it's very well lit up inside. My top 3 favorite skewers are the beef, enoki, and a-choy. They're all coated with the same seasonings here so it's easy to get tired of so I always order a few of the grilled vermicelli oysters which are so tasty, and I love all the garlic it comes with! Some other good skewers are the chicken skin, pork belly, and corn. Love the drinks here too, most recently noticed they added an alcoholic blind box to the menu and it was so exciting to try 12 different mystery shots. Even though I did not enjoy half of the drinks, this is probably the most fun drinking concept I've seen at a restaurant and I'd absolutely order it again. The ambiance, customer service, and food are always all great - I'll never say no to dinner a Discovery!

Loved the japchae as it had flavor unlike other ACE shops where the japchae was flavorless. The side dishes were good. Liked the mashed potato salad, the bean curd strips. The cabbage salad could would have been better with more dressing. Also had the steamed egg which was just ok and the tofu stew with a really large shrimp in it and two big pieces of tofu. It was a bit spicy but overall, the spiciness was ok. Stew also had other seafood tidbits in it which is a surprise as other ACES only offer bits of meat. Stew is a must item. The waiters were fast in delivering meats, clearing empty dishes, clearing empty tables and setting them up for new occupants. I must say this is the first ACE that I have seen the servers were very motivated. However, what they probably forgot was to change our grilling tray but it was ok as we did not sear it black. Biggest surprise was the dessert of a scoop of strawberry ice cream with a. piece of fried banana. Never had any ACE given me dessert! The place was busy but the wait did not seem to be long even without reservations. Overall, this is a must return ACE!

They also carry cans as well that are not listed and you can just grab it from the fridge and pay at the register. There is a good amount of seating inside and there are a few tables outside as well. I ordered my stout and i let it sit as the foam settled and realized that the pour did not fill up the glass. I let the staff know and they fixed the issue by topping off my drink. The staff are very friendly and understanding. During my first visit, we ordered the ribs and brisket as well as a tri tip salad. The brisket was very tender and juicy. I usually avoid ordering briskets since most BBQ places in San Jose that I've been to have made them very dry. There was only one piece that wasn't juicy which I expected since it had no fat on it. It was still tender and not dried out. The ribs were also good. It was tender and didn't stick to the bone as much but it wasn't as tender where it just slides off the bone. The seasoning on the ribs was neutral and the BBQ Pit have their own special bbq sauce (regular and spicy) which goes well with the meat. My wife ordered the tri tip salad and she enjoyed it. I stole some of her greens to balance the meat and beer and the veggies were fresh. The salad came with cornbread but I didn't try it. On my second visit, I decided to get the tri tip woith a side of baked potato and coleslaw. The baked potato was $3 extra. The tri tip had really good flavor and texture. It ripped apart easily when pulling. The coleslaw was ok. I might get the mac and cheese or beans next time. My wife ate the baked potato and ate most of it. I tried a little bit where it was just the potato and it was not overcooked and not too undercooked. It was easy to scoop with the fork without too much effort. If you are in the area and craving for BBQ, I highly recommend trying this place. The portion is not as big as BBQ joints in Texas or KC but they are on par with the ones around San Jose. The pricing is decent and like I mentioned, is also on par to San Jose pricing. If you have a big group, there are plenty of tables to accommodate folks. The location is close to the highway so that's a plus. The staff is very helpful and will give you a good recommendation if you are debating on what to order.

The service was super friendly and accommodating, like talking to family. There were so many good options and the prices were affordable! Especially, for Caribbean food. My partner kept telling me how good of a find this place was and I felt accomplished, LOL! We got excited because this is probably one of our favorite cuisines. We ordered the goat curry, mac and cheese, mixed veggies, collard greens, vegetable curry, beef patty, and two orders of fried cornmeal bread... all for a family of 3 (the 3rd human being a 14 month old hahaha). I thought I can give the baby the vegetable curry, but it turned out to be too spicy so hence why we got the mac and cheese and plain mixed veggies. Everything was fire! Maybe with the exception of the collard greens because that tasted like it was cooked in tabasco or something. Their juices were good too! Portions are generous. Luckily, we had leftovers to enjoy the next day. The beef patty was yummy, but I do wish it came with some type of dipping sauce. All the dishes tasted authentic, I felt like I was back in Jamaica. Everything comes in to-go containers which is convenient. They provide paper plates if you want to dine there. The restaurant is maintained well and clean. I hope they expand across East Bay area as it seems many of their locations are mainly in South Bay/Peninsula.
