You rarely even see a working smoker around here, so the scent of that big beauty out front was welcome! We came to pick up dinner near their closing so it was empty. It's a no-frills kind of place with not much nearby, but the gentleman behind the counter was professional and efficient. You can order from the counter or the kiosk. They have both lunch and dinner plate sizes available; I wonder if they gave us end-of-day extras because those portions were impressive! Pork Rib Dinner: Served with a roll, baked beans, and potato salad. The massive pile of ribs was tender and delicious with a nice smoke. They supply big containers of sauce (sweet, tomato-based) on the side, but it's good to eat without, too. The potato salad was a chopped style, which I think I really like. The beans were pretty good, too! Chicken and Brisket Combination Dinner: Also served with a roll, baked beans, and potato salad. So much chicken! Smoked chicken can go dry, but not this one. I've lived in legit BBQ places including Texas. Even grading on a curve this BBQ was trash. Service: They got my order wrong (Is it annoying? Yes! Is it a dealbreaker? No.) I wanted sauce on the side but they put the sauce on there. The lady asked if that was ok, I said I preferred it on the side and she was like, "well that's the last one." SO THEN WHY TF YOU ASKED ME? They fumbled for 5-10 minutes finding my order. I told you my name. If I was the last customer, why would it be this hard? Maybe put down the ribs you're scarfing down and focus on giving me MY food. Food: Speaking of sauce, jokes on me. It needed it. The brisket was SOOOO dry. Literally how do you make a fatty brisket BONE dry? I did not order jerky. The ribs were ok. The hot link is just a hot link. I don't think I ate the sides. This was 26 DOLLARS. Yikes! Finally a bbq place in San Jose that deserves my money! Today was the 2nd time I had brisket take out and so glad my partner showed me this place as I had given up on bbq in san jose years ago. We haven't had an issue with pick ups or our to go foods. Brisket and hot link are my favorite. Brisket is soft and tender. It doesn't quite fall off when you go to fork it but it's still really good and the tastiest I've had in San Jose. The hot link has that nice snap when you bite into it. I like to chop it up and mix it with the extra bbq sauce to make them little soupy bites. I think bits of the hot link would taste amazing in the baked beans which was the only thing I wasn't really a fan of. They gave me a milky taste I wasn't expecting. I was actually hoping they were soaked in the same bbq sauce as the meats. I suspect that their tangy, sweet and a tad bit spicy bbq sauce is why I like it so much. Lunch date with the family. First time trying this spot. It has indoor seating and covered outdoor seating. It's got the picinic vibe with the red checkerboard table cloths. It smells good too. There is a kiosk to order food, but you can order at the counter if you only have cash. It was busy, so I thought we'd be waiting awhile, but our order came out fast. We got the three meat dinner plate, a Brisket Sandwich combo, peach cobbler and canned sodas. I was very surprised at how much meat they give you, tasted smokey and the bbq sauce is real good. As for the sides, they seemed small, but definitely very tasty. The peach cobbler is not traditional cobbler, I wasn't a huge fan, and probably would not get again. Jon Jon's is a local bbq place that has been on Old Oakland Road for awhile. I mean you can smell the smoky bbq as you approach the restaurant stop. They were established in 1995. Parking is hard and challenging at this place especially during peak hours. Small restaurant holds several tables inside but mostly people sit outside at the covered picnic tables in a dirt lot. The owner was friendly and welcoming! No table service. Order at the counter, pay, and they will call your name. Credit card fee applied, otherwise cash is king. Syd's St. Louis Style Rib Tips: served with beans, potato salad, & roll. The rib tips were tender and fall off the bone. A generous portion size. The potato salad was good and creamy. The baked beans were good, but sorta reminded me of canned beans. Sorry, I grew up eating Dennison's and Campbell's which I love and this reminds me of those. I'll be back to try their other dishes. I've worked around the corner for 5 years and finally decided to try this place. Got the rib, brisket, polish dog combo. -2 stars because I ordered a polish dog and they clearly gave me a hot link. It's SPICY and not what I ordered. -1 star because it took a looooong time. Do not go if you're in a hurry. This is bbq and I understand it's a slow food, but it did take quite a long time to receive the food after ordering. -1 star for no substitutes on side. I don't like potato salad that has pickles, and would have preferred to do extra beans. It was bizarre that the takeout container had slots/compartments to put the sides in, but they were in separate containers. Quite a bit of plastic waste. Why were the beans the best part of the meal? They were buttery and delicious. Wish they had a better bread rather than just a cold squished Hawaiian roll. Brisket was okay. Rib was large and meaty. A bunch of picnic tables draped in plastic checkerboard tablecloths set on a huge dirt patch next to a bustling Oakland Road. The signs are old-school, the vintage BBQ truck looks like it's seen better days, the wall honoring heroes is lovely, and you think, "This is definitely the right spot for some real BBQ." Sadly, I found Jon Jon's to be all style and not much substance. It was lunchtime, so I went for the pork ribs, with a side of beans and potato salad. The potato salad was decent, the beans were even better, the roll was just a roll, and then the ribs... Eh. Way more sauce than meat (which was overcooked and dry) and a rib that still had a lot of fat on it, hidden under, you guessed it, sauce. Look, everyone has their preferences, but when I order ribs, I don't want to taste 99% sauce. Especially when the sauce is just okay. What would me coming back to this place is the unique vibe and decor (or lack of it). The service is direct and no frills (which I prefer). It has that true BBQ restaurant feel... but the ribs, which were supposed to be the star of the show, were disappointing and dry (and the heavy sauce was just a poor attempt to mask how dry they were). My favorite part of any BBQ joint should never be the sides, and that's exactly what happened here. Maybe I showed up too late in the afternoon (1:30 PM), and perhaps a future visit for chicken, hot links, and brisket would change my mind about this place, but for now, I've been to several other BBQ joints in the South Bay that do a better job when it comes to what really matters: the meats. The moist brisket roll sandwich was always been my all time favorite lunch. The roll was soft and the meat was tender. Flavorful and awesome with the bbq sauce on the side (the bbq sauce does have a lil kick but I love it!). My sandwich did come with1 side and I had a potato salad. The potato salad did complement the sandwich savory sweet sandwich. The potato salad was chunky potato w/ bits of onion possibly and pickle/relish giving is a tart taste that cuts fatty part of the meat making it more balance. The barbecue is delicious here. We ordered take out and were immediately waited in. You don't come here for the ambiance as it's tucked away in an industrial part of San Jose. The inside has 8 to 10 tables and a counter where you order. There are outside tables but be ready for big trucks driving by. Portions are definitely Hungry Man sized! Impressive. I am used to getting a nice serving of meat and sizable sides. In Jon Jons case it was the opposite in a good way! I got Saint Louis Ribs and the smoked chicken 2 big portions!!! The sides are a delicious house made potato salad with celery, pickles in a mustard/mayo base just like mom's! And bbq baked beans served with a Hawaiian bun. I created a doordash order for two plates worth $80 and it was cancel 30 mins after... Why not just cancel it in the begining so you don't waste the customer time? It's dinner and issues like this is horrible for customers during that time. I do not recommend ordering with them through doordash. Haven't been here in a year but I just was on my lunch and walked in thinking this would be exactly what I was lookin for and I was in for a surprise. I walk in and there's a kiosk taking everyone's order and there's an old couple in front of me taking 10 minutes just to order. Maybe add a 2nd kiosk? Anyways I finally go up to order and there's no more Mac and cheese and since there's no mash potatoes I'm stuck with Mac salad and beans. No thanks. I was just about to say screw it and just order double beans but then it's 35 bucks for a plate of something without the Mac and cheese didn't sound like money well spent. My fiancé wanted some baked chicken and stumbled upon this place. We had never been or heard of this place. We got sooo much food. The plates are about $20-25 a plate with sooo much food! We got baked chicken, ribs, brisket, & hot links. Everything was sooo good and full of flavor. The bbq sauce is great. Smokey and flavorful. The plates come with baked beans, potato salad, & rolls. I have no pictures bc we were so hungry and ate so fast. Can't wait to go again. I hope they add more sides like Mac n cheese & greens. The staff were also so kind & helpful with our order. We forgot that you are a destination of choice, not just a place to grab food if convenient. We rolled in today hoping for the best and did you deliver. The ribs, brisket, chicken and hot links were all spot on. The ribs were just shy of fall off the bone. A little sauce, a gentle tug, and a mouthful of perfection. I'm still jealous of your chicken, smokey AND moist. It's skill I still haven't achieved on my bbq. I dabble at home, but you're one of the few PITMASTERs around. I just love how seasoned the chicken is and not dried out and the hot link is nice and spicy and has a lot of flavor! Friendly folks running the shop still went the extra mile for us even though they were clearing up the shop close to closing time (a few things on the house for small troubles like being unable to dine inside). There's a chunk of dedicated parking, but the street is also pretty open nearby so shouldn't be too hard to find a spot. A good amount of seating both inside and out, though the interior was closed off at the 6pm mark on a Saturday. Ordered via tablet kiosk on the outside. ==Hot-links - 5/5 These were great with a really nice snap to the exterior, moist insides, and a solid medium amount of heat. Balanced salt level to boot, so as good a spicy sausage one could ask for. ==Chicken - 5/5 Really nice deep herby/smoky fragrance that went deep into the meat. Generally moist and quite tender, would definitely get this one again. ==Ribs & Brisket - 3.5/5 Ribs were well seasoned, but definitely needs a lot of sauce as it wasn't as tender as the chicken (which is saying something cause it's coated copiously already). Brisket ended up quite similarly: nice and smokey, but closer to hard/dry and needed a bit more sauce to help. ==Sides (beans, potato salad, mac and cheese) - 4/5 Solidly decent batch of sides that came with the meal. Tried Jon Jon's for the first time for lunch on a weekend and it was fantastic. Real, authentic BBQ with noticeable smokey flavor. We had the ribs, brisket, chicken and a hot link. I had sauce on the side for everything which I recommend so you can try the meats on their own and sauce to taste. Everything was delicious. The chicken, however, was a true standout. Wow. Might be the best BBQ chicken I've eaten in awhile. A very noticeable smokey flavor and the texture was nice and snappy from being smoked, but still super tender and juicy. Perfectly seasoned too like the ribs and brisket, not too salty. Parking can be a bit tough as the spots are limited. Highly recommend! read more

Well big dawgs, I was not pleased today. My order took 30+ mins not cool.. at first I didn't mind because I was on my phone for most of the time and just simply lost track. I believe I placed my order at 135 or so. I ordered the rib and hot link plate with a side of chicken,beans and potatoe salad. 2pm came around and the employee it's gonna take 10 more minutes for the chicken. I said ok, . 15 mins past and finally my order was ready .. she apologized for the wait, I was fine till I got back to work and my food was cold. The only thing warm was the chicken , and beans. The link and ribs were below room temp. So basically my plate was sitting while they waiting for the chicken to finish. After a microwave rescue , I was able to eat what I could. But at that point I lost my appetite so I just dipped the roll in the bbq sauce .. I've been here a few times and this has never happened,mind you it wasn't busy maybe a handful of people. I will possibly return since this place is way better than mesquite and oak. But I hope they on their toes and have enough to serve the lunch crowd. read more

Stopped by because I was in the mood for BBQ, went in on. Tuesday afternoon, right about 12 noon.. I got there before the rush started trickling in. I was able to walk straight up to the kiosk and order my meal. I decided to get the three meat lunch combo, I chose brisket, hotlink, and chicken. Sides were beans 0/10 and potato salad 7/10. also got a Tiki Punch. Total was $28.94. After ordering, I went outside and sat on the bench. It wasn't but five minutes before my food came out, packaged and ready to go, super fast! People were there starting their lunch orders, some people ate outside, near the food truck area, they also have option to eat inside too. I waited until I got home to open up my lunch. The first thing I noticed was that I had a huge chicken thigh 5/10, I mean it was huge! If I hadn't thought about it, I would've taken a picture of my meal, but I was kind of hungry and just wanted to eat! Lol the hot link is definitely hot. Mine was a little bit overcooked and dried out, it taste like it could've been from the previous day to be honest 6/10. The brisket was tasty but dry. I could tell that all the meat had been smoked however, I feel like the meat was not fresh. It may have been either cooked the previous day or sitting out a while which I doubt because I got there at 12 noon. The beans literally took me back to my childhood because they tasted like the canned pork and beans with a bunch of butter added to it. The potato salad was OK. They were out of Mac and cheese at 12 noon which was highly annoying. I enjoyed the texture of potato salad and they had the right ratio of mayo in it. I have been to this barbecue spot before, but it had been years. . The BBQ sauce could use some revamping, taste very mid, thin. I usually like BBQ sauces that are thick, rich and even a lil sticky! Having lived in the South Bay for many years now, my friends were surprised it took me so long to try Jon Jon's BBQ. We visited Jon Jon's on a Thursday at around 1130 AM. There were a few parties ahead of us so it took about 10 minutes before we were able to place our order. However, once we placed our order, the food came out really quick. I ordered the #9 combo (hot link, rib, brisket). Everything was really solid. The most memorable part of the meal for me was the brisket. It had a good combination of lean and fatty (leaning a bit towards the fatty side which I personally prefer). The hot link and the rib were not bad either, but felt a bit under-seasoned for me. Luckily Jon Jon's had a really well-balanced BBQ sauce to go with the meal (and they were generous with the sauce). As for the sides, the baked beans and potato salad were really enjoyable. The flavors were balanced while the texture gave both a nice slight chew. I'll definitely visit again when I have a BBQ craving. read more

The meat is a 10, or for the purpose of yelp ratings- 5 stars, sides=2.5/3.5 stars, and service 5 stars. All combinations come with baked beans, potato salad, and a roll. I believe they also offer macaroni salad and red beans, but I have not tried these. The baked beans taste like they are pork and beans straight out of a can. I make a mean baked bean, with bacon, mustard, ketchup, cayenne pepper, brown sugar, sautéed bell pepper, onion, and celery, so those are hard for me to swallow, her lies the 2.5 rating, but eaten together with the 3.5 star salad and superbly smoked and flavorful meat I manage them. I like the building resembling a fire station and the good old country style charm. The prices are right for our family of 5. When working in San Jose, my husband visits them frequently if for nothing but their meats and We manage the sides at home. read more
