My wife and I were in the mood for burgers in the area and we wanted to give this place a shot…read more When we got there, the location looked like it was closed but that was because they were at a different location that day. I would recommend looking up their instagram just in case this happens to you. The team was kind and patient as it was my first time there. I ordered the loaded fries with a patty and it was delicious. The burger patty was seasoned and juicy. The fries were crispy similar to In n Out fries. With the sauce they used for the fries, I feel like I got a burger and then some. For the price, that will probably be my go to order since it is more filling than one burger. Overall, good food and I will try again at the original location.

Super solid smash burger! We got a double of the classic burger (I wish I could handle spicy cause…read morethe jalapeño one looked good!) It was tasty and delicious. I wish the bits were crispier and more smashed but it's one of the best you can find on the peninsula. We also got the French fries. Pretty standard frozen fries that were fried well. I would call before you go because they happened to be doing a pop up at fieldworks when we went so we had driven to the wrong spot. Prices also are fair and not expensive! Just expect a long line depending where they are. Try not to look at the dirt and grease caked on their equipment though....

What a great find. Conveniently located near downtown San Jose, this soul food spot serves up all…read morethe classics. Each one that I had I would order again: the southern fried fish plate with green beans, candied yams, and corn bread. Some in my party were clearly veterans and ordered a bunch of food to go. The sweet potato pie was the star of my show. ON POINT. Smooth texture, spicy with a hint of caramel (maybe even citrus), perhaps on the sweet side for some but I loved it, While you order from a QR code at the table, the service is still good and prompt. (There was one server who was really curt, but there was a whole battery of help which meant my overall impression was favorable). Spacious dining and great atmosphere.

I got a fried chicken plate with a side of mac and cheese and collard greens. My husband got the mango habenero wings and fries. The kids shared brisket and mac and cheese. The chicken was crispy, well seasoned and hot, the brisket soft and smoky, the mac and cheese was possibly the best mac and cheese I've ever had in my life (I'm not a huge meat eater in general so this was my favorite)???? The collard greens were flavorful and a hint of spice. We have little kids so we find ordering delivery easier but I noticed on their website they do Soul Sundays with live music from 1:30-3:30...and I really want to try to make that work one day. All in all very pleased with this lovely lunch we had for Father's Day!

I have tried the Tsukune twice now, a tasty meatball creation. Today I also had the Bara Tama, pork belly with thick slices of onion. They are both savory delights but the sweet of the onion paired with the salt of the pork belly and a dab of horseradish mustard makes it my new favorite! It's also over 90 degrees out today and the guy is cooking under a pop up in the parking lot, committed to his craft!

I won't forget how there were tasty options around every corner in Tokyo. Ever since I went to Japan last year, I crave delicious yakitori from a charcoal grill in the Bay Area and always seek out new places to try. I finally tried Okibiyaki-Kikuchi as a yakitori pop-up at ShaKa brewing after eyeing it for a long time. The grilled meat skewers were so delicious and enjoyable to eat with a cold beer flight from ShaKa brewing. The chef is a master of yakitori. I tried hatsu, kalbi, shishito, kimo, and bara tama. I can describe a perfect night like this. A perfect night included skewers from the live ember grill by the master chef and a beer flight. The flavors are legit-- the process of preparing the meat is impressive, and the technique with the charcoal grill brings out the best flavors. The Bay Area is treated to authentic flavors like in Japan. It is recommended that should arrive to the pop-up early as they ran out of the chicken skewers. I will absolutely order the chicken skin and thigh again and again. I also tried his pop up at Clandestine Brewery as well. The quality is so consistent and delicious. I like the vibe of eating like in a picnic style outdoors with a cold glass of beer. Nothing beats that for me. Follow @okibiyaki_kikuchi on IG to see where he pops up next.
