We've lived in Almaden mostly our entire lives and we can't recall visiting this place once. We decided we wanted to try something different and thought bbq sounded good for dinner. This place is close to us so we decided to give it a shot. Interior was nice - spacious, clean and the menu was very easy to follow. They have a nice selection of meats, sides, and drinks available. It was pretty busy which was a great sign. We decided to go with the 3 meat combo (brisket, tri-tip, and pulled pork) and a 1/2 garden salad. The brisket was a tad bit tough. The pulled pork tasted good but was slightly dry. We enjoyed the brisket the most out of the three - it was tender and flavorful. We tried out the beans for the two sides and it was hearty and pretty good. It came with a unique vinaigrette sauce which was pretty versatile with all the meats. I really enjoyed their bbq sauce, thought it was very complimentary with all of the meats. The salad spread was pretty impressive. It was colorful, fresh and even had bell peppers which is one of my favorites. Highly recommend adding it to the meal. Service was okay. The cashier was friendly but they ended up forgetting to bring our salad out in which I had to go back in the middle of my meal. I asked one of the workers and after I let her know, she was pre-occupied with delivering food out since it was busy. I stood there for around 5 minutes and had to ask for an eta. Would've been helpful for her to let the kitchen know and let me know that they would be bringing it out rather than have me stand there. Other than that, we overall enjoyed our meal. Wouldn't say the bbq is knock out of the park but I would certainly say that it is better than the nearby options in Malibu grill and Armadillo Willy's. I would've given our visit 4 stars but the salad blunder knocked it down one star.
I love great barbecue, but to be honest I have been pretty let down by most of the places I've tried locally. Until today that is. We stopped here on a whim and ordered The Gaucho Sandwich with a side of Mac and Cheese and a grilled cheddar jalapeño sausage. The brisket on the sandwich was tender and juicy with perfectly rendered fat and tons of flavor. I loved the soft bun and the accompanying pickled veg. I didn't quite get the addition of chimichurri sauce....it didn't work for me. That said...I added a little of both the spicy and regular bbq sauce and it was perfection. The mac and cheese did not have a smooth, creamy texture I prefer, but the flavor was outstanding. No need to add salt...just a little pepper and I had a hard time putting my fork down. Bonus...it was actually served hot! The sausage was moist and delicious with a great grilled flavor...also served with pickled veg. We ate outside because we had our puppy with us. The patio was clean and well kept and the server who delivered our food was pleasant. I can't speak to the indoor ambiance because I did not go inside. Unfortunately, I was so hungry I forgot to take photos but I will definitely be going back to try more offerings and will update my review.
First time at the Pit. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. The ordering process went well and we had a seat with one of their several good selection micro brew beers. The food breakdown: Burnt ends - pretty hard and burnt. Pulled pork - one of the best I have had, tender and flavorful. Deep smoke flavor Brisket - super tender, good smoke flavor. Beans - excellent flavor and balance Fries - excellent Corn bread - has grill marks and smokey flavor but not much of a corn bread taste, sweet or otherwise. BBQ sauce - regular and very spicy (thought it may be the regular sauce with some habanero added). I would say they are Kansas City style. Excellent. Plenty of parking and a large indoor and outdoor dining area too. Definitely recommend you give it a try if you like legit slow cooked smoked meat with a series smoke ring.
Was having big hunger for pork rib today and found this restaurant near by. The vibe of restaurant is very good, really feel in Texas! I order the half rack meal, price is close to $44 with a soft drink , kind of expensive. And also portion is small. Have to say, the rib taste good! The meat is soft and juicy, flavor go all the way into the bone. But the coleslaw side dish is just average only, nothing special to talk about. But in general, it still taste good and fix my craving. Not bad!
This is my second time here for dinner and there is plenty of parking here. The line was not long and moved pretty quickly. The beers they have on tap are posted on the wall. They also carry cans as well that are not listed and you can just grab it from the fridge and pay at the register. There is a good amount of seating inside and there are a few tables outside as well. I ordered my stout and i let it sit as the foam settled and realized that the pour did not fill up the glass. I let the staff know and they fixed the issue by topping off my drink. The staff are very friendly and understanding. During my first visit, we ordered the ribs and brisket as well as a tri tip salad. The brisket was very tender and juicy. I usually avoid ordering briskets since most BBQ places in San Jose that I've been to have made them very dry. There was only one piece that wasn't juicy which I expected since it had no fat on it. It was still tender and not dried out. The ribs were also good. It was tender and didn't stick to the bone as much but it wasn't as tender where it just slides off the bone. The seasoning on the ribs was neutral and the BBQ Pit have their own special bbq sauce (regular and spicy) which goes well with the meat. My wife ordered the tri tip salad and she enjoyed it. I stole some of her greens to balance the meat and beer and the veggies were fresh. The salad came with cornbread but I didn't try it. On my second visit, I decided to get the tri tip woith a side of baked potato and coleslaw. The baked potato was $3 extra. The tri tip had really good flavor and texture. It ripped apart easily when pulling. The coleslaw was ok. I might get the mac and cheese or beans next time. My wife ate the baked potato and ate most of it. I tried a little bit where it was just the potato and it was not overcooked and not too undercooked. It was easy to scoop with the fork without too much effort. If you are in the area and craving for BBQ, I highly recommend trying this place. The portion is not as big as BBQ joints in Texas or KC but they are on par with the ones around San Jose. The pricing is decent and like I mentioned, is also on par to San Jose pricing. If you have a big group, there are plenty of tables to accommodate folks. The location is close to the highway so that's a plus. The staff is very helpful and will give you a good recommendation if you are debating on what to order.
Very tasty meats. Love the brisket and ribs - I thought that the tri tip was a bit overcooked and chewy. Chicken was not available - sold out! Good place for large gatherings (we were 20) with a shareable menu. Services were as fast and friendly.; for the price we were expecting regular silverware and plates - not paper ones. Gotta love BBQ! Am I right?! It's hard to beat awesome food served with tasty draft beer from local breweries! I'm definitely right! I always get the meet combo with brisket coming in as my standing favorite. Mac and cheese and beans are my favorite sides. The garlic bread comes with every meal and tastes great! My only disappointment here was the sausage. They have a picture at the register of a perfectly cooked sausage with crispy blistered casing. What I got was barely cooked through and was likely cooked in a microwave. A cheese sausage with unmelted cheese. Lose that from the menu or cook it like the picture! -2 stars
They ran out tri tip when we get there so we have to get brisket instead. It was good but I didn't like big chunks of fat on the brisket.
Two of us had lunch here on a weekday. It was reasonably busy and it took about 10-15 minutes to get our food. Since it was our first time, we shared a gaucho sandwich and a three meat platter, which came with garlic bread, mac n cheese and cornbread. The gaucho sandwich was the the best of all the items we tasted. I would definitely order that again. The BBQ meats were good. I wouldn't say they were outstanding. Just good. The people were friendly and the interior was clean and spacious with lots of seating. Overall - a decent BBQ spot that I would definitely go back to.

We ordered the 4 meat combo with brisket, pork ribs, tri-tip, and shredded pork. My personal favorites were definitely the brisket and tri-tip, they had the best flavor in my opinion. I liked the seasoning on the brisket a lot. I was a little disappointed that they were out of burnt ends. One downside was that when the meat came out, it wasn't hot or even warm, it was more like room temperature, which took away from the experience a bit. I also noticed my pork rib pieces were a lot smaller compared to what my friends got. For sides, we had coleslaw, fries, and potato salad. The coleslaw tasted fresh, and the potato salad was really good. The fries were decent, but also came out kind of room temperature. Everything also came with vinegar onions, cucumbers, and jalapeños, which I liked, it added a nice touch. At the end, I noticed that our friend's platter came with a piece of chocolate. Ours didn't come with one, which was kinda sad.
Super busy which is to be expected on Father's Day, I go in and ask for something they had on the menu online but not on the menu board. They say "Yeah we can do that", but this is what they gave me and called a brisket burger. That is the saddest little meat sandwich I've ever seen in my life and is not a burger. It might be brisket, but that's just pathetic. If you don't make it anymore just say so. Do better. Complete rip off. Would be 1 star but the 3 meat combo was not bad. Side were sub par but the meat was good and enough to share with my kid after that sad sandwich. Updated to 4 stars. Manager Donna reached out with a credit for the sandwich. I appreciate the time willingness to make things right. Their customer service is usually on point and that was good example. I'll be back.
Went here thinking it was still a burger pit. Glad I went though because the food was great and the service was Awesome! We had a chicken sandwich. I ask them for not too much bbq sauce and they did exactly that! The waitress was very attentive and friendly. I had a pear cider and it was strong but not bad in taste. I would definitely recommend going there for bbq food!
I hope this place is here to stay in Almaden! The restaurant/food space really lacks in this area and I think we needed a BBQ just like this. I feel like more locals need to come here and check it out, from Burger Pit being here before, I didn't know many people going there so I didn't try it so maybe residents are skeptical. Also, the shopping center is absolutely dead. The pricing for what you get is really good here and the food is pretty good. Not the best BBQ I have had but very good. We didn't have the opportunity to try the burnt ends because it was sold out but the brisket was really good, the chicken was okay, a little dry. Tri Tip was awesome. Corn bread was sadly dry, needs butter. There's plenty of seating inside and could be a good spot to drink and catch a sports game on one of their TV's!

Recently tried the BBQ Pit with two friends and overall enjoyed the experience. We got there around 6:30 PM and went straight to the counter upon entering. It's a casual order at the counter type of spot. I got a BBQ meal - they were already out of burnt ends around 6:30 unfortunately! But the friendly cashier recommended I get brisket instead so that's what I did The brisket turned out to be delicious and the delicious BBQ smokiness was paired well with their sauce which was the perfect amount of savory sweetness. For my sides I got mac n cheese and potato salad which were both pretty good. The dressing on the potato salad had a different flavor than I typically see in potato salad, and it was good. My friends ordered a sandwich and a baked potato and both seemed to enjoy their food, with both getting a good amount of meat in their items. I was sad to see burger pit go, but this feels like a worthy replacement to me read more

We really loved the Burger Pit, nostalgia wise, and food it was great. BUT We also love South Winchester Barbeque, so we were beyond happy to find that SWBBQ bought the Burger Pit location and turned into another great restaurant! They've kept so much of the original decor intact, that you still get that mid century modern grill feel. They even kept the feel of the sign art, even though our wonderful HIstory San Jose got the original Burger Pit Sign for the neon preservation project. The service was friendly and the food was PERFECT. The ribs were so tender, the meat just about slid off the bone and melted in my mouth. Also the Tri-Tip, as always from the SWBBQ family, is the best in the south bay. All in all, this was the best possible outcome for this treasured location, could not have asked for a better fit to take over the spot. And it's nice to have this same great food, a little closer to our house. read more

Alright, so I had been looking around for some BBQ spots and decided on this place. I came in at 11am when lunch is starting to be served. The inside has that BBQ joint feel to it and they do have merch on the wall for sale. The guy taking orders is friendly and got me situated pretty quick. The place was almost empty when I got there, maybe about 5 other guests so it's not packed, but it still took a good 15-20 minutes to get my food. I ordered the 3 meat combo with brisket, burnt ends, and pulled pork with Mac & Cheese and potato salad as my sides. Here's my take: Brisket: Meat is moist and soft but definitely needs a lot more seasoning. Could use another piece piece of brisket since I got less than a full slice that was cut in half... Burnt ends: Decent flavor, but the inside for me was very dry, some pieces were tough to chew. Portions were decent. Pulled pork: Also needs more seasoning and was a tad bit dry, but the portion was also decent. Mac & Cheese: it was okay, nothing to brag about. It tasted like Mac that was tossed in canned cheese sauce. Potato Salad: It's okay...not great, tastes like it could be store bought. Overall it wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't great either. I had to douse the meats with BBQ sauce just to get some kind of flavor. Not sure if I came in too early or if it was just an off day. Don't know if I'll be back, unless I can find another spot that's better. read more

This place is quite far from where I live so I don't think it'll be a stop I will go to for some time. I came here on a weekend and we didn't have to wait at all. You order your food take a number and choose a seat and they bring everything to you. The bbq was good, I liked the variety of sauces they provide. I was so hungry and a rib girl so these ribs hit the spot!! The portion sizes were pretty good, the sides were just okay. read more
The tri-tip fully loaded backed potato is HUGE! Always tastes freshly made with generous servings of all the ingredients. You can ask for more meat but 1/4 lbs is perfect for me. It's our go to comfort food and I usually have enough to eat again next day. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu. read more
This place is off the hook! Ordered their Guacho which comes with provolone and chimichurri sauce. Soooo good! They have an eccentric selection of beers and you can even make a pack to go! Service is quick and all the staff is kind. The vibe is great and rustic. Outdoor seating on a nice day is the way to go! read more

We have been wanting to give this place a try and finally made it. Walked in and the tables and layout is the same as the previous Burger Pitt but they do have counter seating. Walk up to order your food and drinks, grab a number and head to your table. There are a lot of choices for various canned specialty beers and some on tap options. My husband and I decided to go with the three-meat combo. We did one plate with Pork Ribs, Brisket, Burnt Ends with Potato Salad, baked beans and garlic bread. The other plate was Pulled Pork, Pork Ribs, brisket with Mac and Cheese, Potato Salad and Garlic Bread. We also ordered a side garden salad. Guilty of hoping it would come out before the meal, but that was my error for not asking. For drinks we chose a beer on tap and a fountain soda. Heads up the soda is not Pepsi or Coke products, but I believe its call Stubborn Soda. The root beer flavor is okay, but I would skip the soda. The BBQ came out and I was impressed with the amount of meats on the plate. The cornbread that came with the salad is not really corn bread but more of a fried cake taste. I was disappointed as I love corn bread, but the previous yelp reviews were right, skip it. The burnt ends and pork ribs were not horrible but not great, so if you're going, I would give those a try. The pulled pork was very dry, and we were not fans of the brisket contrary to other reviews. Unfortunately, there wasn't a side that we enjoyed. The mac and cheese was very bland (not sure how you do that) and we do not recommend. The potato salad was also bland, and I am not quite sure why the coloring was pinkish but perhaps they were trying to add something to make it unique? Baked beans were very bland. The garlic toast was yummy. When my husband went to grab some BBQ sauce he saw some bottles of BBQ sauce, we were hoping it would be homemade sauce and not store bought. I wish we could give this spot more stars, but the food was bland, and not worth the 118.00 (18% tip) we spent for it. read more

The place had a good vibe and the service was friendly. I was amazed how quickly our food arrived, it was like being a fast food restaurant. However, everything I tried was dry. The tri tip was dry and super thin. The brisket was dry and very thin as well. I couldn't eat it because it had way too much salt on it and that's coming from someone who enjoys saltly food. The burnt ends were the worst I ever had. They were hard bites of jerky... couldn't eat them either. Then, I tried the ribs...again dry and probably not cooked long enough before they came off the grill when it was originally cooked. The meat didn't bite clean off the bone. From what I gather, all the meats I tried were probably cooked from over a day, reheated and that's what made them very dry. The jalapeno sausage was decent. The person at the counter told us the sausage was about 1/2 the size then what was served. The fries were good, but needed to be cooked longer to be crispy. The Mac and cheese was probably the best thing I ate there. On the outside it looked dry, but the cheese sauce was salty and creamy, just the right balance. The garlic bread was flavorless. No butter with hint of garlic powder. They also had all the fans on in the dining area, which unfortunately made my food cold very quickly. If you're going to try this place I'd recommend going when there are a bunch of people there. I don't doubt the meat would be better cooked on the same day and cut fresh... provided that they cut the meat thicker, so it doesn't dry out as much. The three of us met up for a reunion barbecued lunch on St. Patrick's Day, we had not seen each other since last September. She ordered the St. Patrick's Day corned beef sandwich with potato salad and baked beans with meat. She enjoyed it very much, and shared a bite of the corned beef with me. My brother ordered a full rack of pork ribs with potato salad and coleslaw, which was very delicious. We slathered on the regular barbecue sauce, which was delicious and satisfying. All of us enjoyed the meal. I shared the rhubarb pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, very tasty and finished off our meal quite nicely. The counter staff are very nice and friendly, I ordered the root beer from the dispenser, our girlfriend ordered a tasty beer. She had got off her work shift and showed us that she had walked 8 miles during the day at work, she was bushwhacked, so the beer was nice and comforting. All in all, the Barbeque Pit is a great place to have a delicious barbecue with your friends or family. I bought myself a nice souvenir, the restaurant sells t-shirts, hats, drink containers and memorabilia for the Barbeque Pit. I ordered a St. Patrick 's Day large corned beef sandwich, cut into two portions and separately wrapped, with beans and mac and cheese to go, because my 90 year old mom wasn't up to coming out of the house to dine out today. Check this eatery out, you surely won't be disappointed! There is plenty of parking at the outdoor shopping center, and it is relatively close to Whole Foods on Blossom Hill Road, if you want to eat out before or after your grocery shopping there. read more

I'm pthe type of person that may try one item before making a commitment to a new place to dine so I ordered the LOAF of cornbread only to go. The loaf was actually slices and it tasted awful. It tasted like they grilled it together with the meat grease. I want my food to taste like it's supposed to be. Cornbread sb cornbread! I'm not a vegetarian, but if i was , i would not expect the taste of meat on my bread! It was dry and we tried to warm in air fryer the next day and still could not get over how bad it tasted. I suppose if you're eating other meat menu items it may not matter to you. For $18 (cost +tax+tip) I don't recommend. read more

Checked The Barbeque Pit, located in same building as the old Burger Pit. The restaurant looked great and very clean. Love that they have a lot of outside eating areas. Inside they have big screen TV's to watch a game. The service was excellent. We had a few questions and they answered with a smile. We got the 3pc combo and favorite thing was the Brisket by far. The chicken was good, but I thought the Tri-tip was average. As for the sides, the baked potato was very good, but sadly the Mac & Cheese and the Coleslaw were subpar. I think next I go, I will get a Brisket sandwich for sure. Being in the old Burger Pitt location, it would have been cool if they had a Steer burger on the menu for a bit of nostalgia. read more
I frequent their other locations (santa cruz, gilroy) and was super disappointed at this location. First off, the bbq chicken sandwich we ordered had two pieces of chicken bones in it. They need to be a bit more careful when deboning the left over chicken! I cannot imagine a small child eating that sandwich! I chose chicken and brisket for my 2 meat plate. The chicken was pretty small as you can see next to the mint they give you. Almost as if they cut off half of the breast for other things. I forgot to take a picture of my baked potato. There is a $3.00 uncharge which was fine... but damn, give me the whole potato! They cut it in half and of course, it was over-baked. Having been a regular customer at their other locations, I knew what to expect. I was excited for this san jose location because I live nearby. Greed will disturb your new location and will prevent customers from returning. I understand you need to cut costs somewhere, but this is ridiculous! read more
