First time trying this location. Party of 3 around 1:30p on a Thursday. We were greeted and seated immediately. Everyone is so friendly and attentive. This location has a bar in the center with plenty of seating all around it. There is also an outside patio in the back. I of course ordered the watermelon iced tea, It is so refreshing and just so delicious. I highly recommend it If you like watermelon and iced tea. And y'all already know if you're here you have to get the fried chicken. I ordered the meat and three, fried chicken with collard greens mac and cheese and coleslaw. Stopped in today with the family of 5 after visiting the Museum , no reservation although staff was able to seat us on patio . We had Fried Chicken and "Catfish" and sides . Nice spot to try a variety of southern dishes. It's great if you're craving comfort food but nothing blew me away. The catfish was good (it was my first time trying it) but I thought the mac and coleslaw were just fine. The grits were sweet which I found odd. French toast was pretty good but i've had a lot better at other brunch spots (I appreciate that it was not too sweet though). Pretty efficient service-- not too long of a wait for anything. Hubby ordered the 2 eggs with biscuit gravy and added a fried chicken cutlet. The fried chicken is delicious and I would return just for the fried chicken. The biscuit was hard, crunchy which tells me it's day old or more. I make biscuits at home all the time and they should not be hard. Hubby says the gravy was good. I tried the gumbo again. Spicy with plenty of rice, sausage, okra and 2 shrimps. It was good. The Flight of 4 beignets were disappointing. The dough was hard on the exterior and inside cake or bread-like. Not soft and fluffy like the beignets we've tried in NOLA. The filling of the apple was OK with tiny cubed apple pieces, the chocolate one was with Ghirardelli chocolate, the plain was like a thicker, heavier donut. We had some friends visiting in town for the weekend, and from our last experience here, we decided to take them to Brenda's for lunch. The place on the weekend was packed. Luckily a table was just getting up and they were able to clean it up and get us seated right away. We started the meal off with one my favorites, the crawfish beignets, and those were as good as I remembered. For my main I went with their biscuits and gravy with a fried chicken cutlet and scrambled eggs. Honestly wasn't my favorite dish I've had here. There wasn't any real standout flavors and ended up just adding salt and hot sauce. I'd stick with more of their lunch and dinner items next time around. My girlfriend got the gumbo and a side of fried chicken and Mac n cheese. The fried chicken and Mac were as good as remembered, I mean probably some of the best Mac n cheese, I could eat that everyday. My girlfriend and I both agreed that the gumbo had way too much okra and was the dominate flavor. We've ordered this before to go so maybe it was just an off day. During this day, they had the ceiling fans running and I think it may have affected the temperature of the food because all our food was room temp pretty quickly after it being brought to our table. Service here has always been good but this latest visit left a bit to be desired. I eat quickly so they cleared my plate away, no problem. But the others were clearly still eating and the server was trying to pick up plates and even dropped the check off when not everyone at the table was done eating. We felt rushed, which is never a good feeling when dining out. Either way, while this experience wasn't the best compared to past ones, I'll be back to Brenda's because it's a spot my family loves. I haven't been to New Orleans in many years, but my friends who I was with are both regular visitors to the Big Easy. I have been to the original Brenda's Soul Food a few times, so I was familiar with a lot of the flavors here. The thing that sets them a part is their "meat & 3 sides" deal. They have a nice variety of meats and sides you can order, and the costs range between $24 and $28. I ordered the BBQ spare ribs, mashed potatoes, garlic spinach, and red beans and rice. Everything was really solid here. The ribs were perfectly tender and The BBQ sauce was a little spicy, smoky and not very sweet. I also got to try the fried chicken, which is really crispy with perfectly moist meat. I tried the meatloaf, which is also a standout. For dessert we tried their apple beignets, which were great! Lastly, my friends who ordered a Hurricane and I was happy to try it. This drink was very boozy, but in a good way, and had a wonderful balance of sweet and tart. Everything is delicious so I'll just comment on what you absolutely have to try: Fried chicken: extremely flavorful and crunchy, I rate 8/10! A must get Mac and cheese: wasn't my gf's fav but I personally really enjoyed Beignets: the flight was delicious because you got to try everything, honestly think each flavorful is delicious and unique. The inside of the restaurant was full, but we were able to be seated outside in the patio (half covered with about four tables). Of course I had to get the meat and three sides while I was there! Decided on Brenda's fried chicken (three pieces with hot pepper jelly) with red beans & rice, collard greens, and mac & cheese. Although not as spicy as I would have liked (yay for having hot sauce at the table), the chicken was fried well and was super crunchy. Of the three sides, I enjoyed the red beans & rice the most, followed by the mac & cheese, and collard greens.
