It was Tuesday close to lunch. Gavin had a rough night after surgery. I barely slept myself, but there was nothing for us to do beside going through it and trying our best to stay calm. I went downstairs (we were at Valley Medical Hospital) to get Ronnie since he wanted to come to visit Gavin, and so since we saw food trucks, we figured we should grab lunch. + Classic Chicken Sandwich for Gavin + Chicken Tenders and Fries for Ronnie + Nashville Hot Chicken for me (opted for spice level 5) Food did not take long at all. They accept cards. You don't have to tolerate/like spicy foods to enjoy a meal here. The chicken was not greasy and was crispy and juicy as well. Fortunately, a little after we devoured our meals (Gavin barely finished half of his), we were given the discharge approval since he was able to hop/use the walker and use the wheelchair. This place is in downtown San Jose so it does not have its own parking lot but you will need to choose an infrastructure to park at. If you are trying to find this spot, it is next to goodtime bar and tucked away in a somewhat alley, rather than being front and center in street view. There is some seating inside and outdoors as well, so it's friendly to order your meal and hang out while drinking a beer in complement of the sandwich. I ordered the chicken tenders with level 3 heat, while my partner got a classic chicken sandwich. He thought that the classic chicken sandwich would give you an option of spice levels too but default it is just the sandwich itself. Their fries again to emphasize, are spectacular! I think it has something to do with their fun crescent moon shape. I typically do not like thicker steak fries, but man, these were tasty and seasoned amazingly. No ketchup needed. I stumbled upon this place one day while doing my random walk, so you KNOW I had to give this place a try. I had went in upon opening time, so my wait was a little bit, but I was not complaining because you know what they say: "Greatness comes when you build them up one by one." I got their hamburger with the extra cheese, and curly fries. The patty was extra juicy, and the brioche buns were toasted really well. I especially like how they added on the cheese after the patty was marinated on the grill for quite a while, but not too long to the point all of the juice was sucked up. The only down side to the food: the prices. Be prepared to spend quite a bit on lunch if you decide to go to this place, because they do end up charging quite a bit more than what the regular places around Downtown would. I've been going to this mom and Pop company since before the pandemic and they had a food truck! I'm so happy to see if they were able to get an actual brick and mortar!! Service was rather packed on this particular Friday but it was also 1230 so perfect lunch crowd. The cashier was very patient and actually apologize for taking too long but I was completely happy since they got my order and it seems like I got in there within a timely matter, maybe 20 minutes? There's a parking lot across the street and it's free for the first 90 minutes but you have to enter that parking garage from third Street just before you hit Santa Clara St. As you come up the stairwell you're on second street and then you walk across the street and boom! Scratch cookery is right there. I love the food here it's always fresh and made to order and I think their prices are reasonable considering everything is so expensive now! The sandwiches are heavy enough for me that I only need to eat half so it's two meals for 22 bucks basically! And I'm fine with that!! I was very unimpressed with the burger. The patty was unseasoned and flavorless. I needed to drench it in the sauce for some flavor. I expected some crispy edges but they weren't crispy. 3 stars for the burger. The fries were good, interesting rose petal-ish shape but well fried. The price wasn't too expensive. $8 for just a sandwich or $13.50 for sandwich with fries. Now here is where I deduct a whole star. If you order in store but take it to go, they charge you 4%!!! big ass chicken yea that's pretty much sums this place up. all their offerings are yuge. I went for the loaded fries (which contains about 3-4 chicken tenders worth of protein) and it came out looking like a garbage platter. The menu may seem expensive at first, but in reality its decent value considering that each entree can easily feed two. The chicken is pretty juicy and they have 7 levels of spice. I went for the 3 which was plenty spicy. Their fries are more like wedges, but I liked the ratio of crunch to soft potato. also their food is mega salty so you will be very thirsty, even hours later.
