I believe I went at a good time as it was not that crowded yet. Wait time was 15-20 minutes or so but again as the food was amazing I am happy to wait for that. Solid taco spot. Prices are avg to above avg at about $4.5 a taco. Loved the brisket barbacoa taco. The carne asada and shrimp are also solid. Didn't love the chicken al pastor unfortunately. I think it needs more of a grill taste maybe or maybe the chunks were too small that there just wasn't that meaty flavor. Hey there Party People El Halal Amigos is a hole in the wall joint that was on "Diners Drive-in & Dives". So my expectations were high and I was a little bit disappointed. The restaurant itself was clean and had a very small amount of indoor seating. If you are going to come here make sure it's a Tuesday ( Tacos are $2). I got the Carne Asada Nar-Chos. I very much enjoyed them. The balance was perfect between cheese, guacamole and meat. Every chip was covered in something delicious. There was a decent amount of jalapeños so the heat was there. I would get these again and again. Where the restaurant fell short was with the Chile Relleno Burrito. We were expecting the ooyee gooyee cheese burrito we had seen on TV and it was very very far from it. Hubby is a major Chile Relleno connoisseur and to him it was average at best. Chips and Salsa were average flavor wise. But they were free so that was a plus. Since we went on a Tuesday we tried the taco special. The Street tacos were very tasty. They had a great freshness the meat was juicy and very well seasoned. If you're in the Willow Glen area and are having a taco craving then you should check this place out. This is a nice taco spot in the Willow Glen area. The inside is very cute and they show off their support from Guy Fieri. I like that there is a halal Mexican restaurant here! The food was good. They have a sweet potato and kale option for those that don't eat meat. This is a great alternative compared to places that just do regular potatoes. I liked their agua frescas because they're not super sweet. It is on the pricier side for tacos but I think more places are pricing it like that nowadays. Got to try this place at a Yelp tasting event in 2025 and the brisket taco was DELICOUS. Been meaning to come try the restaurant, but I couldn't justify spending $5+ on one taco. However, I recently learned they do taco tuesday deals! The deal is only for the al pastor chicken tacos and it was actually good! As someone who absolutely loves tacos and is always on the hunt for great local taco spots, I was excited to see how this place compared to some of my favorites. I ordered four different tacos, and overall, they were pretty good. They weren't bad by any means, but they also didn't quite blow me away. The meat was cooked well, the tortillas were fresh, and the tacos had good flavor. The salsa was decent too, although I personally prefer something with a little more kick. Everyone has different tastes, so this is just my opinion. One thing I really appreciated was how clean and organized the restaurant was. You can tell they take pride in keeping the dining area nice and welcoming. The staff was friendly, and my food came out quickly. It's always a good sign when a restaurant pays attention to both cleanliness and customer service. I've eaten at a lot of taco places throughout the Bay Area, so I naturally compare every new place to some of my favorites. While El Halal Mexican Restaurant didn't make the top of my list, I still had a good experience and I'm glad I finally gave it a shot. Not every restaurant has to be your favorite to be worth visiting. I also like supporting family-owned businesses because I know how much hard work goes into running a local restaurant. Not sure if it's because we came on a Tuesday or what but the place was pretty empty and service was so off...they kept bringing us the wrong order (even though we had our number at our table). And they walked our tacos all the way outside and back inside before we had to go over like hey those are ours and it was the same girl who took our order. The $2 taco Tuesday is a great deal! Parking can be challenging if you try to find close by on the street (we were lucky and we got it right outside) though there happens to be a big parking lot pretty close that can address this easy. I like it here but I'm not sure we ordered the right items. I got a sweet potato taco to try and that was good but the orange sauce was so incredibly spicy it was inedible, and I'm ok with a bit of spice. My husband was really excited about the birria special and the chile relleno burrito but both fell flat. We would not order the birria special again- little flavor, and we probably would order the chile relleno burrito again but we brought half of it home and squeezed lime juice on it for a little kick. Next time we'd do that and add our own (edible) salsa. The kids liked their quesadilla plate and that there were chips for the table. The staff here was pretty nice minus one lady who was expo-ing food- wow will she give you a mean look if you go and ask for a refill of chips phew! My husband and and I really hate having to leave this review because we genuinely enjoy the food here and have been loyal customers. Unfortunately, the last three times we've ordered, we've found long hairs in our meals..once in a burrito, another time in a different burrito, and most recently in our nachos. We kept giving it another chance because we truly wanted to continue supporting this restaurant, but after agreeing that a third occurrence would be our limit, we've sadly decided we won't be returning. We hope this feedback is taken constructively. Please consider requiring hair ties and hair nets for anyone preparing food to help prevent this from happening in the future. We know mistakes happen, but repeated issues like this make it difficult to feel comfortable ordering again. Came here on a Sunday for some birria tacos. I've been here before and know the food is good. I never realized they only served birria on Sundays but my expectations were higher because of this. We have been coming here since the Lincoln Avenue restaurant opened. The food is consistently amazing. We come most often on Sunday for the Barbacoa Taco Special. You can taste the time they take to marinate and slow cook the beef. The consume' that comes with is a slow cooked beef broth (15 hours) that I dip in and drink straight. The Barbacoa ribs are another gastronomical delight served with a choice of beans and a roasted green pepper. We have also had the crispy Barbacoa tacos as well as the soft. I love the way they season the meat, and I love the generous amount of onions on the tacos. The sauce on the mahi mahi was too spicy for me, but the taco tasted good after I removed it. Next time I'll order it plain. I also ordered a side of chips and pico. The pico was SO good. Again, lots of onions. Unfortunately, the container was tiny and there was only enough for a few chips. I've loved El Halal Amigos since the first time I dined at their brick and mortar restaurant. Originally, I thought their food during their food truck days was just okay. But they seriously have improved tremendously! Everything is deliciois; from freshly made quesabirria sundays (I watched it being made outside), to their famous loaded narchos, and so much more. And the chile relleno burrito is something I've never had but I'd highly recommend it! It was so flavorful, meaty, melty, and filling. The Nar-chos are a must-get every time, and I love their taco plate as well. Never had a dish here I didn't enjoy! The only thing I think could improve would be their agua frescas. While the prices are on the higher end for Mexican food, the portions are huge! Service is attentive and extremely friendly even when busy. We visited here after a paint session at petroglyph, which is right down the street. It was the closest Mexican restaurant, though you do have quite a few options in this area. They have good tacos, but they aretiny for the price at five dollars each. The meat was well cooked, though it was a little bit oily. After trying homemade corn tortillas, everything else pails in comparison, so I wasn't super impressed with the tortillas used here. However, the service was absolutely phenomenal. Everyone was smiling, and they even brought us chips while we waited for our food. You order at the counter and sit at a table to eat, and there is ample seating space outside that allows for more intimate conversation because there is no music blasting.
