Burma Choice is one of those restaurants that hits it out of the park every time. They're very vegetarian-friendly, which is great since some people in our group are vegetarians. All of the dishes are well seasoned, with bold, authentic flavors that really shine. The restaurant is well kept and offers a relaxing environment to enjoy a meal with friends. Some of our favorite dishes include the eggplant dishes, green beans, sesame tofu, coconut rice, and more. One dish we especially love is the mango salad. They bring it to your table and mix it right in front of you--it's fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We were looking to try something new. Somebody suggest Burmese food. When we arrived, it was not too busy and were quickly seated. Restaurant is nicely decorated with wood tables and paneling. We started with the palata which is like Roti with vegetable dip. We ordered the fiery chicken. It came with peppers and wasn't spicy. Lastly, we were craving for pineapple fried rice. All the dishes were decent but nothing jumps out. Very similar to Thai dishes except for the Tea Leaf salad that had a unique flavor. Staff was friendly and efficient. I really love the food here. The tea leaf salad is always a favorite and the samosas make a great appetizer to start with. The house noodles and the crispy pork were my two favorite dishes of the day, super flavorful and satisfying. Service, however, was a bit slow, especially considering how empty the restaurant was. There was also an unfortunate moment when the server cleared our plates and dropped a saucy spoon onto my purse, leaving a stain. We've been coming here for several years now, but for some reason I haven't written a review. We came here for lunch today. They are so nice and welcoming here. We ordered the eggplant in garlic sauce with shrimp, Burmese chow mein with beef, the mango salad and samosas. The food here is so delicious. It's one of our favorite spots. Stopped by for lunch. Tried the tea leaf salad and the coconut soup with chicken. I've had tea leaf salad at other Burmese restaurants and this one was very similar but expensive. The soup is similar to the Thai version of this soup which I actually prefer over the Burmese version. I would still go back to try some other dishes. read more

We decided to try Burma Choice for a late night dinner. While it was decently crowded on a Friday night, there was no wait for a party of 2. The interior was a decorated to be a mix of both traditional southeast Asian culture and an elevated American restaurant, with lots of dark wood finishings. We ordered 2 entrees to split, the House Burma Noodles with tofu and the Chili Lamb. Both were quite good, though the onions in the Chili Lamb could have been cooked longer so that it would be less crunchy. The lamb itself was flavorful and had a lot of spice, but not too much heat. The noodles were evenly covered in sauce and had both savory and slightly sweet flavors. These 2 dishes were more than enough for 2 people, so we boxed the leftovers to bring them home. The tea salad was different than other places and didn't seem the most authentic when compared to other places. The crunchy chicken was good but also in a sticky sweet sauce. If I hadn't already agreed to share, hubby would not have gotten so lucky to eat my palata. It was deliciously crispy on the outside and while soft and mochi-like on the inside. It was slightly sweet, not too greasy, and went well with the coconut curry with chicken and a bowl of coconut rice. I didn't feel overwhelmed by the coconut flavoring at all. Hubby got the Burmese curry, which I preferred over the coconut curry despite my love for coconut. Both curries come from the same base, so it felt a little like getting the same dish, though. I was pleasantly surprised that there weren't physical pieces of garlic and onion in the curry and that they didn't overtake the flavoring. Their food is okay. Their service is bad. I came to this restaurant with my boyfriend in year 2024 on a week night on a Friday. It was packed and they have a waiting list. When they called us and got seated down, this Asian Male waiter/server took me and my bf on a small two person table and gave us menus around 6:30pm. Then the Asian waiter said he will be right back because he had to get two more customers a table. He did and it was these 2 Caucasian customers around their 50's. We are Asian in the ages of 40's. Then we waited to get our order taken for 45 minutes. This same Asian Male Server took the orders of the 2 Caucasian Customers in 10 minutes ever aince they got seated while ignoring me and my boyfriend who has been waiting for him for 30 minutes to get our order taken. Worse of all, he got the 2 Caucasian customers their food right away and he was just ignoring us while we wait for him to take our order. So 1 hour later, I could not take it anymore waiting for too long, I called the waiter and was pissed off. My boyfriend too. We did not yell at him but I asked "Why did those 2 customers who got seated later than us got their order of food first and why did he forget about us waiting their first that we have to wait for 1 hour just to get our order taken and we have to freaking call him?". This Asian Male server said" Sorry for the wait, what is your order? ". We ordered and we got our food in 30 minutes. The food is not that great. We have a bad experience here. We had better Burmese food than here. The one in Fremont called Burma Bay is really good, with great friendly fast service of the servers and are not descriminating. Burma Bay's food in Fremont are 100 times better tasting than Burma Choice. Do not go to this Burma Choice if you are Asian since they descriminate and will serve you last. Burma Choice is a understated little spot on Blossom Hill and Santa Teresa which I've been recommended twice by friends and family. Considering that tonight's plan A fell through, I gladly agreed to stop here tonight for an early dinner. The signage isn't well-lit, so if you're showing up after sunset, look for this place between TLeaf Teapresso and Pizza My Heat. We got there early in the evening, so we were seated immediately without a reservation. I deferred to my friends mostly, aside from suggesting that I would like an order from the noodle menu. Our orders came out surprisingly quickly, perhaps because it wasn't busy yet. Tea Leaf Salad ($17.99), a vegan dish, is a stunner. I couldn't tell you what made it so good, but it was savory and had a lot of fun crispy elements. The dressing is great and balanced, and since the server tossed it tableside, all the ingredients were evenly dispersed. Palata ($13.99) with Vegetarian Curry Dip, which I believe is vegan too, is a small but satisfying appetizer. The flatbread is sturdy enough, and the dip is not heavy and feels like it tends toward the Indian sphere of curries. Sesame Tofu ($16.99), an inexplicable third vegan dish, was also worth my time. The tofu was fried to a crisp that lasted the entirety of the meal, but it was still pretty soft inside. The sweet and tangy sauce and the sesame seeds meant that it was basically the vegan equivalent of a sesame chicken, but that texture was so good. Nan Gyi Thoke ($16.99), another dish which was mixed tableside, ended up being the only meat-containing item which I had tonight. It had some similarities to the Thai dish khao soi in that there was a coconut curry sauce and some crispy elements, but the curry here was just a sauce rather than a soup, the crispy item was wonton strips, and the hard boiled egg and likely the pea powder really changed the game. The chicken was tender and tasty too. Come to Burma Choice if you like food, period. Do expect that you may have smaller portions here than at other restaurants, so you might consider trying to order a second round later. This place threw me for a loop lol how do they serve halal meat but also serve pork but also have a bar?! I decided to have an open mind and try it out. My mom only eats halal meat so I really wanted her to try a new spot but she was hesitant. I called beforehand to confirm their meat was halal and asked our waiter as well. We were blown away by the food and the customer service. The food: The sesame beef is an absolute must-try. We order it every single time--it's perfectly crunchy, flavorful, and just amazing. Another standout is the salt and pepper chicken, which we often get as a appetizer, the fish sauce paired along is amazing. My mom doesn't like it, so more for me! We like to mix things up with their salads and are still exploring to find our favorite. So far, the noodle salad is a strong contender, but we also enjoy the classic Burmese fermented tea leaf salad, which is a great choice if you're craving something authentic and refreshing. We were excited about this place but disappointed in the food. Their tap water was real tappy and only one dish out of everything we ordered was really delicious - the Palata with chicken curry dip. But even that came with barely and chicken curry to dip, so that wasn't great for $14. Their Tea Leaf Salad was missing something - maybe shredded cabbage? It just had romaine. Their fermented sauce was a bit much. The server recommended the Nan Gyi Thoke, which had rice noodles that resembled spaghetti, or the same ones that go into bun Bo hue, and it was just okay. The coconut chicken curry wasn't that flavorful. Mix it up with hard boiled eggs? Still not good. The Burma Choice Noodles had a sauce that tasted like gochujang (Korean spicy bean paste). Very unexpected and not something I ever had at a Burmese restaurant. Since I cook with gochujang all the time, this was a waste of $17 for gochujang chicken noodles. My dad ordered the Mango Shrimp. It wasn't tasty. My sister ordered the chicken pumpkin stew, which wasn't good. I packed it up and after our meal so she can eat it another time. read more

The Powers that Tea Located at the former Masa Ramen Bar (home of the Masa Ramen Challenge as seen on Man vs Food [S8:E19**]), Burma Choice has been serving up one of the more underrepresented restaurant cuisines: Burmese. Burmese food is a Fusion of mostly Thai with some Indian and Chinese thrown in for food measure. Burma Choice is one of only a small handful of restaurants that do this, but it should be noted, they do it very well. The Good: *Friendly service *Dog-friendly outdoor dining *Large shared private lot *Service was friendly and attentive *Local beers on draught, as well as a full bar. *Palata app is a must-order! The crispy, flaky palata was sensational. Imagine a croissant smashed into a flat bread. Yeah. It's that good. *Carissa loved her Pumpkin Stew w/ chicken, as it was a well-balanced soup/stew with good pumpkin flavor that had a subtle sweetness to go with the earthiness. *My current obsession, after reading about it on a local subreddit, is Burmese Tea Leaf Salad. This was only my second time consuming one but it was even better than my first time. Earthy, crunchy, and filled with tons of legumes and other goodies. Please note this is a vegan dish, but I highly-recommend going to the dark side and asking for some complimentary Crushed Dried Shrimp to sprinkle on top of the salad to give it an even bigger umami punch. The Meh: *Jackfruit Bananas dessert was just OK. I felt like all I could taste was the bananas In the filling and not enough jackfruit for my liking. And the ice cream was a boring vanilla. If they really wanted to pump it up, make the filling all banana and the ice cream jackfruit flavored. I placed online order for Asia fried rice. There is no mention of egg on the description. I still went ahead and made a note that I need vegan version. I picked my order and when I opened at home there was egg in it. I called and the lady argued first that egg is vegan. For someone running a restaurant I am shocked is not familiar with the food vocabulary l. Makes me wonder what else they ignore when reading dietary restrictions. The palata--a flaky, buttery roti--was excellent, and it paired perfectly with the rich curry dip. It was so good we ended up ordering a second round. The crispy pork belly was another standout: flavorful, crispy on the outside, yet juicy on the inside, with a decent portion size. It went well with both noodles and rice. The tea leaf salad was interesting and had a unique flavor profile (earthy and slightly bitter), adding a nice variety to the meal. The shrimp were good sized and not overcooked. The sauce was not as thick as I would have thought for a curry. Our waiter recommended this...Nan Gyi Thoke: Rice Noodle with coconut chicken curry sauce, hard boiled egg, Pea powder, fresh and fried red onions, wonton chips & lime leaves (4/5). Super solid Burmese food in the South Bay! We ordered takeout (via ChowNow) from here for a late lunch, and got about 4 items for 4 people which was just about right. What we ordered: + Tea Leaf Salad (4/5) ($18): I'd imagine this to be better in store - the portion felt pretty small, but maybe it was just an illusion from the box it was in. The salad was super flavorful though, loved all of the different textures from the toppings! + Burma Choice Noodle (4/5) ($18): A flavor blast! Wasn't very spicy, super umami and savory. The lemon helped to balance it and add a bit of acidity! + Black Pepper Beef (4/5) ($20): Super tender beef! I thought the snap peas were a nice touch. it really just was okay.. nothing special and I'm pretty confident I could make a better tasting fried rice at home. It was on the bland side, it only got slightly better with the sauce, but it didn't come with the sauce right away, I had to go out of my way to ask for some sauces to go with it.
