Yummy Kitchen completely exceeded our expectations! We ordered the marbled beef in golden Soup, Mongolian Beef, House Special Fried Rice, and Mapo Tofu, and every single dish was absolutely delicious. Everything was perfectly seasoned, and you could really taste how fresh the ingredients were. I asked if the soup and the Mapo Tofu could be made mild instead of spicy, and they absolutely nailed it--it was the perfect level of mild without sacrificing any of the flavor. The chef was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He even recommended the Mongolian Beef as his favorite, and after trying it, we can definitely see why! It was tender and flavorful. However, my favorite was the marbled beef in golden soup and the mapo tofu and then the house fried rice. This is definitely going to become our new go-to spot for takeout. My 90 year old mom gave me a list of Chinese restaurants to try out this time, so I picked Yummy Kitchen, located on Branham Lane, take the Camden exit off the 85, it was only about 10 miles away from the house. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with a variety of restaurants, including Vietnamese, Japanese, Mediterranean, etc., and there is plenty of parking. The mall is located across the street from Lunardi's grocery store. We ordered hot and sour soup, Mongolian beef, a shrimp-squid-scallops stir-fry and a deep fried fish slices dish with pepper and salt. The meal was quite delicious, the chef cooks the dishes in the kitchen from scratch right after you order. There were complimentary dishes of edamame and a cold bean soup dessert that were "help yourself ". I would definitely come here again with my mom for another meal. A couple of families came in for dinner with their kids, a few people came to pick up their takeout, and we noticed that all patrons chowed down the delicious food, even the little kids seemed to enjoy the food as well. Prices were somewhat higher than the menus that you see online, but currently, it's inflationary times right now, so it's to be expected. However, the quality of the dishes was well worth the price. Came here for a Saturday dinner with my family. The dining area was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The portions were generous, making it perfect for sharing with family. I find that I usually have to go to Cupertino or Milpitas for good Chinese food, but glad to have found a spot in San Jose I'd say that the stir fried beans and fish fillet were cooked perfectly! Not too sweet, not too salty, and savory enough for you to keep eating it. I will admit that the spicy pork ear was A LOT sweeter than I expected, and the sugar(?) wasn't completely dissolved so you'd bite into some of it (although they were really small pieces). We came around their closing time, so they weren't very busy. The server was very nice and the food came out quick as well! Dang!!! The Mapo Tofu was absolutely delicious and actually had real unfried and chunks of Tofu. The salt and peppered ribs were really crunchy soy good and not drenched in any oil or over salted as was the chicken chow mein dish we had. Bathroom was clean -- thank you -- that makes a difference. There were 8 of us and we had our dinner on Christmas. Everything was fresh and delicious. Most of the dishes we ordered that came with a sauce are pretty sweet. And so is the owner! It was really windy and the door was kept open so we were shivering a bit. We didn't say anything since we figured they left the door open to air out the cooking smoke or something but the owner immediately came by, asked if we were cold, and quickly closed the door. 1. Battered pork tenderloin - a little dry on the inside, presumably since tenderloin is a leaner meat. The battered shell on the outside is the smooth type so it was only slightly crispy. It came with a delicious spiced powder on the side to dip. 2. Stir-fried beef with cumin - very tasty but the meat was also kind of chewy unfortunately. We noticed they were marinating meat slices in the back so at least it's freshly made. 3. Kung Pao tofu Pretty standard and came with tofu, peanuts, and zucchini. 4. Vegetable chow mein - the soy-sauce based sauce on this was pretty sweet but the noodles were the perfect texture, smooth and slightly chewy. 5. True to their name the restaurant is essentially a large open kitchen with a few homestyle dining tables. We got - Egg fried rice- 5/5- hot off the stove and served piping hot, this was a moist, delicious plate of almost perfect fried rice. Chilli chicken-5/5- I love the sichuanese style chicken chilli. The version here was perfect, not too numbing hot to desensitize, just the right amount to tingle and tantalize the senses. The chicken was perfectly cooked as well. This is easily one of the better versions I have had in a long time. Chowmein-3/5- the sauce did not cling onto the noodles and there was sauce pool at the bottom of the plate. Since we were the only customers at that time, I took the liberty of asking them to reduce it down and hopefully leave a char on the noodles. The lady helping us obliged and came back a few minutes later. This version was better but it still needed work. She told me the next time I can request it the way I want before hand as different customers have different preferences. Eat it quickly for the best experience... it softens up if you take too long. Beef chow mein - tender beef slices in mein noodles. My son's fave. Sesame balls - one of Grandma's faves. Soft, moist, great flavor. Stewed beef brisket with tofu - we always order this one as "only a little spicy" otherwise it's too spicy. Presented to table in a bowl on top of small burner plate to ensure it stays hot. Again, the beef was tender (as you would hope) and the tofu was the perfect amount of firmness. You can request bowl/cups for each person to make it easier to eat versus eating off a plate. Salt and pepper fish - light white fish in thin batter covered with garlic bits. Tender and tasty! I love how you can watch the chefs cook your food in the woks in their "open" kitchen. The only downside is I smelled pretty smoky afterwards. I stopped by in a group of 2 on a Saturday night for a small dinner. It wasn't too crowded inside with many free tables, although there were many people who picked up delivery/takeout orders during my meal. We got the mapo tofu ($13.99), stir-fried string beans with pork ($15.99), and a bowl of rice each ($2/ea). The mapo tofu came on this sizzling plate that kept it hot the whole time! The tender pieces of tofu were swimming in a savory sauce that had a numbing kick. The pieces of pork in this dish were pretty small and added some umami flavor to the dish, but the tofu was the star of the show. I am glad we ordered rice to soak up all the tasty sauce! The stir-fried string beans had a lot of peppery flavor and were nicely blistered on the surface. Although the string beans were glistening on the surface they did not feel or taste too greasy. The pork in this dish was saltier than in the mapo tofu and at times was a bit too salty for me. I wouldn't have minded the dish without the pork and might even try ordering it without pork next time. The servers are kind and attentive.
