I gave Dough Zone South San Jose a try for dinner. It was a mixed bag. I ordered four food items - a scallion pancake, green onion soy sauce noodles, shrimp and pork pot stickers, and a salad with sesame dressing - and a sour plum beverage. The noodles came out first and were good. For reasons unknown, they were garnished with three pieces of the white part of the green onion, sliced long wise. They would have been easier to add to more bite had they been chopped. The pot stickers came out next. Good flavor and I very much like the crispy lace from pan frying. The pickled cabbage garnish added flavor and more crunch. The only downside to this dish was a very wobbly plate. The salad came out next. On the paper menu I was given, there was a choice of two dressings. Apparently, the menu has not been updated recently, as only the sesame dressing was available. No mind, it was very tasty. However, a good portion of the romaine lettuce had dark brown spoilage on the ribs. Picture attached. At this point, I had to ask for my drink, the sour plum beverage. It had been described as sweet and tangy, but I'd not call what I got tangy. It was interesting and I still enjoyed it. The scallion pancake arrived last. It was tasty and crispy, though just a bit oily. I was given a single napkin and wasn't checked in on until my meal was over. Overall, this was an average meal on balance. I hope they step it up. They have potential. read more

Dough Zone Dumpling House - Some very brown lettuce. This should never have been served. - Dim Sum Near Me - San Jose, California

I've ordered takeout from here and eaten inside the restaurant. I will say eating in is my preference since the food comes out hot but I wish the service was a bit better. The staff are friendly but things just seem a bit disorganized. I think this restaurant could be even more popular if they took orders a bit quicker and also if there was more of an organized approach to the service. For the takeout portion, the food comes nicely packaged and appropriately labeled with any modifications which is great! I also love that they allow modifications. Some of our favorite dishes include the sesame cold noodles, the beef stew noodles, pork XLB, pork and shrimp dumplings, cucumber appetizer, fried rice, and their drinks are really good. Especially the passion fruit green tea! Overall the interior of the restaurant is nice. I think some of their dishes are almost on par with DTF but here it's almost half a price difference. Seating is generally plentiful but it can get busy around peak meal times. Parking is decent. read more

I usually go to a different dumpling spot, but this one was closer so I gave it a try. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and for the most part everything tasted really good. The main issue was the portion sizes. They were way too small for sharing, which is kind of the whole point of going to a dumpling place with a group. The only thing I really didn't enjoy were the Dan Dan noodles. The spice was intense in a way that lingered for a long time and left a weird tingling feeling that I wasn't a fan of. Food came out pretty quickly though and service was great. Overall, I'll probably stick to my usual spot that's cheaper and gives bigger portions. Food: 7.5/10 Service: 10/10 read more

For the price, not bad! I thoroughly enjoyed the xiao long baos, dan dan noodles, and the chili shrimp wontons. would i say it's better than DTF, eh? It's not quite there, though it's a good alternative. Parking is also not bad for this place too! read more

We have been trying other restaurants in the other area and Dough Zone was the next one on our list. When we arrived around lunch time on a weekday, it was pretty busy but managed to get seated with minimal wait. You can order from the staff or from a QR code. We had initially wanted to just give back the paper slip but it took a while and we ended up placing our order via the QR code. We started with the pork xiao long bar and pork & crab meat xiao long bao. Both were delicious and would order them again. Skin was thin and meat & soup was yummy. This is the highlight of our meal. We ordered the egg fried rice and it was decent. We also ordered the beef noodle soup. The broth was ok, noodle was overcooked and there was plenty of cubed beef that were tender. We also tried the beef pancake. Wrapper was crispy and flaky. Beef was ok. We also ordered the green onion pancake but did not come out and end up canceling it as we were done eating. Restaurant has a nice modern feel and a lot of wood elements. Well lighted. Overall, if you are craving for Xiao long bao, would come here than going to Valley fair for the more popular restaurant. The rest of the dishes were ok. read more

This is a nice small eats place for those that love rumblings and noodles. Service was quick, but they did not check in often. My kids enjoyed the XLB. Parking is easy in a shared plaza. Ordering was easy and done through a QR code. The beef dish is salty and I would not recommend. Wish their noodles had more meat. read more

I've been to a few other Dough Zone locations but this was my first time at this one. My boyfriend and I had a great experience. Our server was so great. He was very friendly and checked up on us every now and then to make sure we were okay. The space is a decent size. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The food came out pretty quick too. The food was just as good as the other ones we've been too. We were a little sad that the chicken soup dumplings were out of stock since we couldn't eat the other ones due to our personal dietary restrictions. Either way, the food that we did get was still great! read more

This is fake Chinese food for white people. The dish names are correct but the taste and texture are extremely off. Don't come here if you are Asian read more

Came here on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy we were able to be seated right away. This location is decorated pretty well and was clean when we arrived. I've been to other Dough Zone locations and so we knew what we wanted to order and were able to choose what we wanted and have our paper picked up right away (QR code was down). I never skip on the sweet and sour cucumbers, Dan Dan noodles, and scallion pancakes at Dough Zone. The food was served to us quickly but I did feel it was off getting my dumplings before my scallion pancakes. Service was friendly but kind of slow. We had asked for waters and we didn't get our waters until the end of our meal which was after we had to ask a different server for water. read more

I heard about this place when scrolling DoorDash one day, however, I decided to visit it in person. The decor is cute, modern Asian and sleek. We came here after lunch rush around 3pm and ordered a bunch of food that were part of their favorites and must try's.There were a bunch of items that were out of stock and we were disappointed we weren't able to try it. We ordered the Dan Dan Noodles, Chicken Crispy Gyoza, Egg Fried Rice, Chicken Xia Long Bao, and Pork Xia Long Bao, and the Beef Pancake Roll. I am not a big pork eater so I was thoroughly happy they had Chicken Xia Long Bao. The chicken XLB were steamed to perfection with a wonderful broth. I honestly couldn't tell I was eating a non-pork XLB. The Dan Dan Noodles are one of the dishes they are known for. We were excited to try these as a bunch of places that we eat don't have this offering. We were rather disappointed because the noodles, on the printed menu, shows meat in it, however when we got it, there was no meat in the dish. The flavor was ok, I think the absence of the meat lended to the lack in flavor we were expecting. The beef pancake roll was stuffed with beef and provided a nice crunchy, flaky pancake against your palate. It was seasoned perfectly. It is quite a large roll and can be shared. Overall, besides the lack of some items in the menu and the lack of meat on the Dan Dan Noodles, I would recommend trying this place. read more

The food was excellent and dishes came out quick. But I had to knockoff two star because the toilet had brown-buildup under the rim and looked like it wasn't cleaned properly in months. And how they handled a customer service mishap. I had lunch with my family and we asked for a refill on our tea from who we later learned was a trainee. When our server returned from their break they explained that the trainee was unaware that tea was charged per pot and indicated that it would be added to our bill. I feel that they passed the cost of a training mishap onto the customer for an item that cost the restaurant cents. With that said, it was off-putting to charge us after it was delivered for something that was trivial. The explanation after-the-fact was inadequate and made the entire dining experience very awkward since most other restaurants would have comped the second tea in that situation. It gives the perception that they were cheap and penny-pinching. Especially since it was a training breakdown. My recent experience was disappointing solely because of how they handled their mistake. And I would have overlooked the restroom had it not been for how they handled it. read more

Would give 4.5 stars if possible. Great very reasonably priced options, most under $10 each which is amazing. The Dan Dan noodles were fantastic with a nice numbing spice. XLB were nice and hot and lots of soup inside which was awesome. Dough is a little thicker than DTF but they were really good. Great scallions pancakes which are flakey and very crispy which is key! Enjoyed the beef scallion pancake roll. Easy to use app for ordering in store too. Love it! read more

Dough Zone Dumpling House - XLB - Dim Sum Near Me - San Jose, California

This year is different for me and my family. My uncle found out he had 2 types of leukemia this January. We visited him, called him, texted him, prayed for him, and brought food and drinks to him while he was undergoing chemotherapy. He passed away last month right before Thanksgiving, so no one in my family celebrated the holidays this year. Some of us chose to follow a vegetarian diet for our Buddhist beliefs. I have not consumed meat (this also includes seafood) since November 10th, so wherever I go I need to make sure they have no meat options. Thankfully we live in the Bay Area where doing that is pretty easy. This place was opened on Christmas Day. I have rice at home and a block of tofu, but I couldn't muster the energy to do anything as I'm still recovering from being sick - I need to go back to urgent care on 12/30 if I don't feel better. It seems as though I have pneumonia. Anyway. Very thankful that this place was open and that DoorDash made it all possible. I tipped the driver generously because they are working on a holiday plus the weather was gloomy with on/off rain. I ordered for Gavin 2 orders of egg fried rice and boiled pork wontons and for me I ordered scallion noodles, green onion pancake, and vegetarian spicy ma la noodles. I enjoyed the scallion noodles, the noodles were chewy. The green onion pancake was thin and crispy, which I thought were okay. The vegetarian spicy ma la noodles were not spicy, but it was quite comforting eating them on a holiday where I'm feeling sad. Hopefully next time I go, it will be in person to enjoy their other dishes. Merry Christmas and thank you for being open. read more

I've been wanting to try Dough Zone for a while, so when I found myself in the neighborhood recently I decided to get takeout for a late lunch/early dinner. I used to love dumplings, but haven't enjoyed them at the last few dim sum places I've tried. I was hopeful Dough Zone's would be good. I went to their website to order online and was redirected to DoorDash. I ordered Pork Xiao Long Bao, which are dumplings filled with pork, broth, and seasoning; Pan-fried Pork Buns; and a romaine salad with sesame dressing. The DoorDash app alerted me when my food was ready, which only took 10 or 15 minutes. When I went inside to pick it up, I was surprised to see how busy the restaurant was at 3:30pm in the afternoon. One of the waiters told me to go look for my food on the DoorDash shelf near the back of the restaurant. I thought that was a little odd and wondered if he thought I was a delivery driver picking up an order. I found my food without any issues. Unfortunately, I didn't like any of the items I ordered. The sesame dressing was so spicy that I couldn't eat the salad. As for the dumplings, I can't say why I didn't care for them other than personal preference. There was nothing wrong with them, they just weren't for me. read more

Was craving dumplings tonight and decided to try Dough Zone for take out tonight after it was recommended by a friend. I used the mobile ordering on their website and found it to be easy and user friendly. The order was ready right on time when it said it would be and pick up was seamless. I found the food to be tasty, but it fell a bit short when compared to other exceptional dumpling places in town. However, the prices are far more affordable, no giant crowds, and the food still really satisfied my craving so it was worth it! The chicken fried rice (3/5) was probably my least favorite thing I ordered. It was missing the traditional taste of a a fried rice for me and was underwhelming. I would pass on this next time. Chicken XLB soup dumplings (4/5), delicious broth, perfect amount of chewy texture and flavor. Hit the mark but didn't surpass it. Lastly, the Dan Dan noodles (5/5) were very good! Perfect texture that you would want them to be with a lot of flavor and the classic "numbing" feeling from the peppercorn. read more

We beat the Friday dinner rush which was nice! The person who greeted us was very cheerful the entire time so I really appreciated his presence. Cute Christmas decor too! My only gripe is that my favorite dish has reduced in quantity :( Food: - pork xiao long bao: 5/5 delicious, can't go wrong with a classic - pork wonton in chili sauce: 1/5 my favorite dish but it barely had any meat :( mostly ate wonton wrapper which I do love me my carbs but the portion was off for sure - beef stewed noodles: 2/5 delicious noodles, like I said I love carbs, but only four small pieces of beef... - fried pork buns: 5/5 delicious, if you don't liked smelling fried oils maybe skip this but I don't care I like a good crunch on the bottom (forgot to take a pic because it took a while to come out which is fine) - meat pies: 3/5 I was too full to finish my share, but it was decent, again more carb than meat but flavor was alright read more

Pretty full house when i came by myself on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm after a golf lesson. The service was very good even as a single diner. I've been to the one in Cupertino which is a little bigger. U can order thru scan or paper, i like paper. Ordered the pork xiao long bao , cucmbers, and dan dan noodles. They give hot water. I enjoyed all my dishes. The dumplings look a lil powdery but their are yummy with soup inside. Cucumbers taste fresh and no overly marinated. Noodles were nice as well. Probably my favorite Dough Zone location. They were responsive and handled a menu ordering error with grace and humility. XLB was well cooked and not pink meat which usually alarms my parents. We've walked by this place a bunch of times but never thought to try it out. We were craving some xiao long bao's but didn't want to drive to valley fair and/or wait a long time to go eat at Din Tai Fung so we decided to give this place a try.. I am so glad we found this place because it is simply awesome! Slightly smaller space with ample seating. They have a simple menu which resembles going to a traditional dim sum restaurant - a small paper which you can check off individual items you want. Although it isn't a complete dim sum menu, it definitely has enough. We decided to order the pork xiao long bao, high tail shrimp and pork steam dumplings, sesame cold noodles and steamed broccoli. The pork xiao long bao checked off all the boxes - flavorful soup, wrap stayed in tact, and the pork was delicious, good texture and not overcooked. Goes perfectly with the minced ginger and vinegar. My favorite was the sesame cold noodles. The noodles were al dente, had a perfect chew, the sauce was perfectly balanced and all the toppings added to the texture of each bite. The portion was not overly big but the lower price point matched it. The steamed broccoli was good, although I wish they had broccolini but it was good to have a break between all the saltiness. Lastly, wasn't overly impressed with the high tail shrimp dumplings, shrimp was slightly over cooked. The service was prompt and friendly and they also had some cool lunch specials too. I came here again last night for dinner and also had a great experience so it's 2/2 for me. Another important thing to mention is that this place is very affordable and has good value for the money you spend. I recommend checking this place out for lunch or dinner! read more

Everything was pretty much good. Menu was QR code unless you ask for a regular menu. I forgot to take a picture of the plum drink. Didn't really taste that good. It tasted like BBQ sauce for that drink. Service was excellent. The food came out pretty fast as it was about 1:30hrs before closing so there wasn't much people in there. Don't miss out on the DanDan noodles. It's really good kick on that. It's a small bowl for its kick. The beef stew noodle soup was pretty good. In the comments we ask for no spicy which they actually followed through. Most places don't even bother reading the comments you put but at least this place does which is great read more

Not my dumpling places. Minimal service. They didn't refill our water until I asked them whek I asked for the bill. Pork Xiao Long Bao: 3/5. Not enough soup in the inside. The wrap was thick. The pork had some "interesting" taste that I would not order again. Pork and crab Xiao Long Bao: 3.5/5. Same issues but without that interesting taste. Beef pies : 3.5/5. Very thin layer of beef inside, but tasty. Probably the best dish if they had more beef in the inside. Pan Fried Pork Buns: 2.5/5. The dough was thick. Not juicy enough in the inside. 5 spice beef shank: 3.5/5. Not bad. On the salty side. Not much spice. Noodle with onion soy sauce: 2/5. Taste ok. Very tiny portion. Two bites, and you are done. All in all, it was a bit subpar. I would not go back again. There are better dumplings places with better services. read more

Try this with my son the other day because he was in the mood for soup dumplings. We really enjoyed the crab pork dumpling the most, but we did try the chicken and the pork only. Tried the potstickers which were pretty good. The wonton soup was ok, always tough to beat pay pau's. Service was friendly, the place was very busy. Did not have to wait too long for only two people but anything above that might take a little bit longer on the weekend. Would definitely come back and bring more of the family. read more

I love coming here in two different scenarios: when I have the little kids in tow, because I know they'll eat the noodles, soup dumplings, and broccoli; and when I'm by myself, because I can order the same exact things, except I don't have to share! I find this restaurant to be fast, consistent, easy to park at (I like the side of the parking lot that faces Total Wine and Ulta Beauty, it's much easier to get a spot there than the front side), tasty, pleasant, and friendly in customer service. There have been times when some of the XLB barely has any soup in it, but honestly, I forgive them because it's just so easy to eat here! Easy to get my veggies in--the kale with sesame dressing is healthy on a plate. And easy to love the food in general, because who doesn't love dumplings, wontons, and savory pancakes that come out fast and fresh? I have heard people give mixed reviews of Dough Zones in other locations, so I guess I'm lucky I live near this one. Key favorite thing about it: EASY. read more

Compared to the other location (on Hostetter/Lundy), I rather drive to that location (nicer staff, cleaner tables/utensils, more consistent food, more surrounding variety of things to do, etc). ORDERED - pork XLB (crazy how pork and crab XLB was the same price of $9.95; hence regrets that I didn't order the one with crab) - pork wontons with chili sauce (6 miniature wontons for $7.95!! But the sauce was DELICIOUS) - green onion pancake for $4.95 (overcooked, burnt and hurt to eat) - dumbly ordered the steamed shrimp and pork dumpling for $10.50 which I DO NOT RECOMMEND (perhaps nobody orders this because it tasted like they took it straight out of the freezer since the inside was rock hard and overcooked) SERVICE: I appreciate they have both a QR (online) and a paper option. Legit had to hail down people for anything and service // feels exactly like in canto restaurants. Workers were classified into certain tasks... person delivers the food? Good luck getting any thing. Other than that, they were kind though and VERY YOUNG. VIBEZ: Lots of non Asians (and I mean Taiwanese, Cantonese, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc) dining in. Kind of up right in my opinion. Lots just sitting in and chatting. Pleased that they don't rush you out. Would I come back? Heck no! read more

The only thing I wish was different is that I felt that the tables were a bit too close together, which made for a pretty noisy ambiance during the meal.
