Had a wonderful experience dining here for a weekend wedding! HL is part of an Asian plaza and has lots of parking. It's a grand space as expected for a Chinese restaurant. The service staff were fast and efficient in cleaning up finished plates and placing the apps and entrees of the set menu. The bartenders were great and friendly with the drink service. The venue has a dessert container with notable brands like Haagen-Dazs and melona bars. The whole restaurant was grand that can occupy a stage, projectors, and lots of fun lights. The food was a great set menu primary of seafood dishes like abalone, lobster noodles, seafood salad, and so much more. Great experience!

Came here with 11 people and bill came out to $355 with tip which is decent in this day and age. We ordered a lot of different dishes but they said they ran out of Chow fun so had to replace it with a different noodle dish but then ended up not brining it till we were done eating everything else. Some notes - The steamed dumpling skins tended to stick to each other and break while picking them up. The spare ribs were tender but a little bland. Needed black beans The shui mai are good but a little too fluffy which makes me think they have a lot of fat in them. The steamed rice rolls were nice. The gai lan was a bit fibrous and tough. The stir fried snow pea shoots with bean curd skin was a little bland. The durian puffs were good!

We usually come here with a big group and get a room reservation, then order the set menu. The restaurant is always bustling on weekends, so without a reservation, would definitely expect a wait time. The dim sum carts have large variety and are fresh and fast, but the set menu helps alleviate the chaos and the decision of having to pick what to get haha. The food gets delivered fast and is fresh. The set menu has a large variety of different foods, from meat like duck and sweet / sour chicken, to veggies like mushroom and snap peas, to seafood like fish and lobster and scallops, as well as soup and fried rice. The food is served in waves, so there's always a new dish on the table every 5-10 minutes. The portions are massive! We always have plenty of leftovers to last us the rest of the weekend. Everything is tasty and seasoned well. My personal favs are the fried pumpkin, lobster noodles, and scallops, although all dishes were hits. Will definitely be back for the next group gathering!

Came here with two friends for dim sum on Saturday late morning to try out a new (to us) place. We made a reservation online to make things a little less painful since Saturday dim sum brunch time can get intense with crowds. When we arrived, I checked us in and we were seated right away. The space was gorgeous - spacious, bright, elegant, high ceilings, ginormous screens. They served us tea right away and left a menu on the table for us to fill out and order from. Since I was the lone Asian person at the table, I took the liberty of filling out our order. I placed the completed form at the edge of the table for the wait staff to pick up, after about 10 minutes of no one stopping by, I had to do the arm waving thing to flag someone down. I typically expect minimal to no customer service when going out for dim sum - it's just culturally expected. The food eventually slowly started to come out, a dish and basket at a time, but we had no sauces, so I had to get again flat someone down for some. Once we were settled with sauces, we were good. So. Try good, as a matter of fact. Each dish & basket was fresh, delicious, & left me excited for the next bite. I ordered the standard dim sum dishes, plus some. The steamed bbq pork bun was beautifully crafted & fluffy, moist, & delicious. The group favorite was the salted egg yolk lava bun - painted on top with a stroke of gold, when I broke open the bun, it yielded a delicious golden & sweet yolk that left everyone at the table with surprising delight. The food quality definitely made up for the poor service, but someday, I dream that there will be a dim sum restaurant experience that serves up both.

    SMH on this one.

I recently hosted my daughter's wedding dinner reception at HL Peninsula Restaurant in Milpitas, investing well over $80,000 for the evening. Given the scale of the event and the financial commitment, I expected a high standard of service and execution. Instead, the experience was profoundly disappointing and completely unacceptable. Several critical issues occurred throughout the evening: Subpar Food Quality & Mix-ups: Multiple courses arrived at the tables completely cold. Furthermore, we were missing several items that were explicitly ordered, and it became clear that we were served dishes intended for an entirely different reception. Negligent Management: When I brought these glaring errors to the manager's attention during the event, the response was dismissive. No immediate effort was made to rectify the situation, show accountability, or offer a meaningful resolution. Health and Safety Concerns: Most alarmingly, the day following the event, a significant number of our guests reported experiencing severe stomach pain and distress due to the food served. A coordinator or host spending this amount of money should be met with meticulous service and respect. Instead, our milestone celebration was marred by chaotic logistics, poor food handling, and a complete lack of management oversight. I cannot, under any circumstances, recommend HL Peninsula for weddings or large-scale catering events. Look at the photo attached of the Bao bun for the Peking Duck. It hard like a rock.

    * Visited on a Sunday with a party of 2- the wait was about 20 minutes Surprisingly, this was my first visit to HL Peninsula and I loved it. The portions are great and everything was tasty & delicious. The staff were quick to help us out and get our order in. I appreciate the fact that there was PLENTY of seating, and that the restaurant is quite spacious. OKAY THE FOOD: * Dim sum STAPLES - You can't go to dim sum and NOT GET SIU MAI. I wish I ordered more but we had ordered a good amount of other items to try. The siu mai was the perfect size too, not overly large or small. * Chicken feet with black bean sauce- 20/10. Loved it and loved the fact that it wasn't smothered in the sauce. * Turnip cake - I absolutely love a good fried turnip cake. It was seared great and tasted amazing. If a dim sum restaurant can't make a good turnip cake... you gotta go somewhere else. * XO Rolls - it was very tasty and cooked well! It was seasoned amazing and had the perfect sear to some rolls while maintaining its flavor.

We came here on a Friday night to celebrate a graduation. The restaurant interior and decor is very modern and pretty. Plenty of private rooms to dine in, 2 humongous TV, and plenty to space esp for a wedding. Well, we reserved for a party of 24. Placed our order, but the food took a while to come out. It did not seem so busy for a Friday night around 7:30pm. There were plenty of tables available. When our first dish came out, it was the fish maw soup. Which is usually eaten with red vinegar and white pepper, but there was none on our table. We asked for white pepper 3x and no one brought it to us. The soup ended up being ao bland, the only bland dish for the night, because everything else we ordered are SALTY!!!!! SALTY! SALTY! SALTY! We ordered 2 of everything bc we had to 2 tables. Thefried shrimp, SALTY! Honey walnut shrimp, SALTY! Expensive lobster with noodle, SALTY! A few tofu dishes, SALTY! Clams were okay. I forgot what else we ordered, but it was SALTY! And I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Service was HORRIBLE!! I had to ask for water for 3 different people, I order in English and Chinese, and still nothing. The white pepper we asked showed up around the end of meal. I'm not sure if all the staff were new, but it was horrible service. Especially for a $1,000 meal, we want better service, just asking for the bare minimum. Will not be attending again.

First time to HL Peninsula on Sunday night- my husband and I were surprised by the great service, generous portions. Both our dishes were pretty tasty, not salty. We also got a warm red bean dessert at the end. Nice ambiance- I felt like I was in Asia.

Personally, I've never craved dim sum but this meal changed that for me! The restaurant is definitely a more upscale dim sum spot. It's really large, bright, and very clean. The service is also pretty fast. However, because the restaurant is so large and is often packed especially on weekends, you'll probably have to ask your server more than once for something. Overall though, this is my family's new preferred spot for dim sum Dishes: - Pork belly with caviar: was super tender and juicy, basically melt in your mouth texture. However I was hoping the skin would be crispy like typical roast pork so I missed that. -Siu Mai: super plump, juicy, and flavorful! Typically I get bored of siu mai but this one was so good! - Glutinous rice dumpling: one's I've had in the past have been dense but this one was nice and light and the filling too salty - soy sauce noodles: this is my favorite childhood dim sum side but I felt this one was more wet, rather than the dry noodles I'm used to and prefer. I would still get it though since it's one of my favorite dishes. - shrimp noodle roll: overall it was okay. I will say tha the shrimps were HUGEEE which to most people would be great but personally it was a bit too much for me.

Huge dining hall with giant TV. Nice interior. good dimsum especially the tiny taro bits in the chicken feet, black lava bun and pandan (green) tart. we had the usual har-kau, siu-mai, fu-zu (beancurb skin), all were okay.

We went HL Peninsula for the first time to celebrate my mom's birthday. We reserved 3 tables and ore-ordered the food. The restaurant is open and nicely decorated. The prices are a higher than other dim sum restaurants. The food was brought out inconsistently. Some tables had to wait for certain dishes while other tables were served already. Overall, our experience was average.

Came here with some friends for a get together before the holiday. It's your typical Chinese restaurant service where it's not great but wasn't horrible either. It's a Saturday night so they had two weddings going on. They kept flashing the lights and volume is music was all over the place. The food was fairly decent. Nothing really out shined. I think this restaurant is known for the seafood which we did t really get much of. Might consider trying again... but maybe for their dim sum

Beautiful banquet hall frequently a consideration for hosting weddings and dinner parties yet also proficient in serving the staple dim sum during weekend brunch, HL Peninsula bolsters its presence in the Bay Area with this South East Bay location. Possibly overshadowed by its competition on the other side of the freeway, HL Peninsula is oftentimes forgotten for me but this time around, we attended a beautiful wedding hosted at the restaurant and it was amazing. Parking is abundant with its own dedicated lot and location is convenient for out of towners and locals as it's just blocks from the highway. The space is huge with high ceilings, great lighting, and comfortable seating arrangements. The food was certainly a highlight with presentable arrangements on display with solid ingredients making up the robust yet delicate dishes. Seafood is a strength here but so is there abundance of other proteins. Their roasted pig was just right in terms of fat to meat proportions and the crisp on the skin was decent. Peking duck was good but I'd prefer thinner pieces of meat. Sea bass was decadent per usual and cooked perfectly. Abalone with sea cucumber, a classic for many with exquisite tastes, was executed well here (clean, smooth texture in the sea cucumber and tender abalone). A new and fresh dish for me was their sea urchin fried rice. It was unique, however, cooked sea urchin just didn't have the same spark in flavor compared to its raw variety. The flavor was still great, but I had expected more of a kick from a dish involving uni. Pricing is as you'd expect - a little on the higher end, but for the quality you're getting, it's quite fair in my opinion. We have come here for dim sum once before and it was pretty comparable to similar places and the portions were, to me, industry standard. It's just incredibly busy and noisy. The staff were efficient and friendly - a lot of the folks here are veterans in the business and know how to ensure their customers enjoy a meal out. Overall, HL Peninsula is a strong option for banquet dinners as well as just a night out with solid, authentic Chinese cuisine that may include a healthy, balanced serving of proteins, vegetables, noodles and rice. Dim sum cravings may also be quelled here during their brunch hours but be early during those peak weekend times or else be prepared to wait! They have branches throughout the Bay Area so if this one's close by, check it out! I haven't been to any of the other locations yet but from what I've heard, the food can vary. We'll just have to see for ourselves next time!

As of this writing (12/30/24) do they serve dim sum on carts? If so, is it for lunch or dinner or both? Thx

The food comes out on carts but you order by checking off the items you want from a menu.

How much are the VIP room? How much would it be if less than 15 people were to book the room?

The minimum is $400 for 10 people for lunch time. I just booked last month.

Do you serve dim sum on weekend? My friend came to eat dim sum on Saturday and dim sum was not served.

I just went yesterday (Saturday) and had dim sum. My guess would be it depends on the time your friend went because dim sum is meant for brunch (breakfast/early lunch) and typically dim sum places stop serving it about 1-2pm

Do you take reservation for wedding?

Of course! Very nice place .

Do you serve dim sum at dinner?

No they don't. Just during lunch.

    Do they have wifi?

    Sorry but no.

What time are you open on Sunday?

    10-2:30pm 5-9:30 pm on Sunday's

Do you accept reservations for dim sum on weekends?

Sorry , no reservation for dim sum .

The food used to be fresh, flavorful, and consistently delicious. Lately, however, it feels like corners are being cut. Several dishes taste as though they are pre-made or frozen rather than freshly prepared, which has been disappointing. What makes this especially frustrating is that my group and I used to come here every Sunday and genuinely looked forward to it. It was a regular tradition for us. Sadly, the experience is no longer what it once was. I sincerely hope the restaurant can return to the standards that made it so popular in the first place. Until then, I'll be taking my dim sum outings to Walnut Creek instead.

This is a to go only place, no dining room. Had the pork fried rice, braised roast pork, soy chicken and charshu pork. I like that their steam table includes something different than other Chinese to go places; not the usual orange chicken and beef broccoli type place. Steam table includes charshu pork, braised pork, soy chicken and more. The braised pork had the roast pork but cooked on soy sauce based sauce with a hint of spicy. The soy chicken had lemongrass and garlic flavor. Charshu bbq red pork was slightly sweet and tasted like bacon but a little gamey. Pork fried rice was well seasoned. Chowmein had a different type of noodles than what I'm used but had good flavor overall. Bought the fried tofu on the side. Tofu was topped with diced grilled onion and bell peppers which gave it a sweet flavor if you eat the toppings with the tofu. All steam table items were good. I would go back to try their dimsum and roast meat items. They also sell pre packaged food if you don't feel like getting the combo items from the steam table. Nice staff. Very reasonable prices with generous portions.

The Chinese sausage pieces sprinkled throughout added extra flavor too. The bowl is deep so there seemed to be roughly 5 cups of rice. Unfortunately the laksa shrimp fried rice was disappointing in comparison. It didn't have much flavor overall - better than plain rice but definitely needed more seasoning. The menu lists homemade laksa sauce as an ingredient but we didn't taste that, and the dish wasn't spicy at all either despite the 1 chili pepper rating. But it looked just like the menu picture so maybe the description is wrong. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce came with 6 pieces. Very juicy. We also enjoyed the herbal roasted prime steak with sausage rice. The delicious rice had the taste of fish sauce. Most of the short rib slices were soft and a few were slightly chewy but overall decent quality. Some of the fattier pieces of meat were still attached to the bone.

An absolute delight and a great choice if you're a mushroom fan!…read more This place has been on my queue for a while to try out, and it really hit the spot. I came here on a Friday evening with my friend to grab dinner around 6:00 PM. The wait was around an hour, so be very prepared if you're coming during the dinner rush. This spot is located where the majority of the Asian restaurants are in Milpitas, so it's safe to say the parking can get a bit hectic and intense. The interior of the place is very bright, modern, and clean. There is a lot of seating for a small space, but the reason they are so busy has a lot to do with the number of people wanting to check this spot out. When you sit down, you scan their virtual menu via QR code and order there instead of through a server. You have the choice to order on one phone as a group or separately. Between my friend and me, we ordered a beef mint salad, fried tofu, confit mushrooms, and truffle mushroom rice. I will say that when we first got the fried tofu and confit mushrooms, we were quite surprised by the small portions compared to the price. That said, they were delicious, but skippable if you're trying to find the best bang for your buck. What I absolutely would recommend is their truffle mushroom fried rice. This might have been my best bite this month. It was so savory, the mushrooms hit perfectly, and the coating of butter on the rice was supreme. It was $28 for a bowl, but it was a good value to split between two people. Overall, this place had great, fast service (our food came out in under 10 minutes), a nice ambiance, and fresh, flavorful food.
