recently visited this restaurant for the first time with a party of 13, and the experience was nothing short of frustrating. What should have been an enjoyable group dinner was ruined by some of the pushiest and most unprofessional service I've encountered. From the start, the waiter was relentlessly aggressive, trying to force us into the most expensive set dinner menu. Despite us telling him multiple times that we wanted to see the regular menu, he pressured us 6 or 7 times until we finally had to tell him how annoying it was. The most ridiculous part? He kept "joking" that the food we ordered wouldn't be enough. We ended up ordering 13 different dishes, and even then, we couldn't even finish everything on the table! It was clear the staff was more interested in padding the bill than ensuring we had a good meal. It is incredibly uncomfortable to be mocked for your order when you've already provided the restaurant with plenty of business. I felt disrespected as a customer and hounded for a higher spend. This restaurant is officially on my black list--I won't be returning to a place that prioritizes a "hard sell" over basic hospitality.

First time to HL Peninsula on Sunday night- my husband and I were surprised by the great service, generous portions. Both our dishes were pretty tasty, not salty. We also got a warm red bean dessert at the end. Nice ambiance- I felt like I was in Asia.

Personally, I've never craved dim sum but this meal changed that for me! The restaurant is definitely a more upscale dim sum spot. It's really large, bright, and very clean. The service is also pretty fast. However, because the restaurant is so large and is often packed especially on weekends, you'll probably have to ask your server more than once for something. Overall though, this is my family's new preferred spot for dim sum Dishes: - Pork belly with caviar: was super tender and juicy, basically melt in your mouth texture. However I was hoping the skin would be crispy like typical roast pork so I missed that. -Siu Mai: super plump, juicy, and flavorful! Typically I get bored of siu mai but this one was so good! - Glutinous rice dumpling: one's I've had in the past have been dense but this one was nice and light and the filling too salty - soy sauce noodles: this is my favorite childhood dim sum side but I felt this one was more wet, rather than the dry noodles I'm used to and prefer. I would still get it though since it's one of my favorite dishes. - shrimp noodle roll: overall it was okay. I will say tha the shrimps were HUGEEE which to most people would be great but personally it was a bit too much for me.

We went HL Peninsula for the first time to celebrate my mom's birthday. We reserved 3 tables and ore-ordered the food. The restaurant is open and nicely decorated. The prices are a higher than other dim sum restaurants. The food was brought out inconsistently. Some tables had to wait for certain dishes while other tables were served already. Overall, our experience was average.

Huge dining hall with giant TV. Nice interior. good dimsum especially the tiny taro bits in the chicken feet, black lava bun and pandan (green) tart. we had the usual har-kau, siu-mai, fu-zu (beancurb skin), all were okay.

Came here with some friends for a get together before the holiday. It's your typical Chinese restaurant service where it's not great but wasn't horrible either. It's a Saturday night so they had two weddings going on. They kept flashing the lights and volume is music was all over the place. The food was fairly decent. Nothing really out shined. I think this restaurant is known for the seafood which we did t really get much of. Might consider trying again... but maybe for their dim sum

Beautiful banquet hall frequently a consideration for hosting weddings and dinner parties yet also proficient in serving the staple dim sum during weekend brunch, HL Peninsula bolsters its presence in the Bay Area with this South East Bay location. Possibly overshadowed by its competition on the other side of the freeway, HL Peninsula is oftentimes forgotten for me but this time around, we attended a beautiful wedding hosted at the restaurant and it was amazing. Parking is abundant with its own dedicated lot and location is convenient for out of towners and locals as it's just blocks from the highway. The space is huge with high ceilings, great lighting, and comfortable seating arrangements. The food was certainly a highlight with presentable arrangements on display with solid ingredients making up the robust yet delicate dishes. Seafood is a strength here but so is there abundance of other proteins. Their roasted pig was just right in terms of fat to meat proportions and the crisp on the skin was decent. Peking duck was good but I'd prefer thinner pieces of meat. Sea bass was decadent per usual and cooked perfectly. Abalone with sea cucumber, a classic for many with exquisite tastes, was executed well here (clean, smooth texture in the sea cucumber and tender abalone). A new and fresh dish for me was their sea urchin fried rice. It was unique, however, cooked sea urchin just didn't have the same spark in flavor compared to its raw variety. The flavor was still great, but I had expected more of a kick from a dish involving uni. Pricing is as you'd expect - a little on the higher end, but for the quality you're getting, it's quite fair in my opinion. We have come here for dim sum once before and it was pretty comparable to similar places and the portions were, to me, industry standard. It's just incredibly busy and noisy. The staff were efficient and friendly - a lot of the folks here are veterans in the business and know how to ensure their customers enjoy a meal out. Overall, HL Peninsula is a strong option for banquet dinners as well as just a night out with solid, authentic Chinese cuisine that may include a healthy, balanced serving of proteins, vegetables, noodles and rice. Dim sum cravings may also be quelled here during their brunch hours but be early during those peak weekend times or else be prepared to wait! They have branches throughout the Bay Area so if this one's close by, check it out! I haven't been to any of the other locations yet but from what I've heard, the food can vary. We'll just have to see for ourselves next time!

So the food was delicious! Everything we ordered was good. The venue itself is beautiful and clean. My reason for giving this amount of stars is because that day we went there, they were hosting a wedding. It was so confusing! Everyone is lining up at the door and there weren't any indication where the other patrons were supposed to go to get a table if they weren't there for the wedding. They had five tables outside in a covered area and once the sun went down there were no lights. We had a dim candle light and it wasn't even romantic. I went in to use the restroom and i had to walk through the wedding reception and when i came back out the was trapped by lion dancers. Then i noticed that they had seatings inside that was sectioned for people who are not part of the wedding party. So why were we outside!? I feel like if you're hosting an event for a wedding there should be separate entrance for the wedding and the other patrons. Or if not close it out for the wedding only guest only. The food was good but pricey. I dont believe we will be back because of our experience... -Minus 1star for unorganized check in. -Minus 1star for making me walk through someone wedding reception and then getting trapped for going to the restroom. -Minus 1star for the horrible outside seating that i thought would have more lights, when there were indoor seatings! (luckily the food was good)

This is a huge restaurant inside. Big screens on either end of the dining area constantly putting on commercials of how they do weddings too (which makes sense) they have a lot of staff walking around but it seems like they have blinders on unless you just so happen to be waving the check in your hands. My parents and I made a game of it to see who could get the attention of one of the staff. Check in hand always works btw. Other than that, food was good. Nothing amazing. Just okay. Restaurant itself was clean. Just not very memorable besides the lackluster service. Cool teapot though.

Came here for dim sum on a Saturday and there was no wait. We tried the Siu mai, hargow, steamed fish fillet, steamed BBQ buns, pan fried eggplant filled with shrimp paste, beef meatballs, chilled bean curd, and the pudding (rabbit shaped). My favorites were the eggplant with shrimp paste and the chilled bean curd. The flavors for these were so good! The Siu Mai, hargow, and beef meatballs were solid and tasty. The steamed BBQ buns were ok - not much BBQ meat and not as much flavor. The steamed fish fillet was pretty good - very soft (maybe a little too soggy texture for my liking). The pudding in a rabbit shape was super cute, although I didn't particularly like the flavor (coconut taste). Ambiance is nice and upscale, and service was fast.

3.5. Huge dim sum/Chinese food/wedding venue. It's humongous. The TV screen is huge, the biggest I've seen in a wedding venue. The ceiling is tall too. Looks like a great place for a 500 person Vietnamese or Chinese wedding. We came for the dim sum, no wait, but I think we had reservations. Service was definitely lacking and spotty, we think it's because they are so busy. We came on a Saturday. It was hard to get anything. No carts here. You order via menu and they bring everything to you. The first waiter guy tried to upsell us on some non dim sum items that was like $35 a plate. I was like no dude, we only want dim sum. We got all the usual dim sum. Shu mai, har gow, shrimp rolls, chicken feet, XLB, pork buns, and some other things. It was good, the dim sum was extra large. Stuffed with ingredients. We liked their food, just super hard to get some sort of service. And maybe they don't care because they auto grat to your bill. Overall, big place to grab some dim sum with a huge party.

Average dim sum tasting restaurant.... My mother wanted to eat dim sum here for her birthday because this place was recommended to her. We pull up on a Sunday around 12:30pm and it was busy but we didn't have to wait more than an hour thank god. When you arrive there you let them know and they give you a number to be seated. We waited about 30-40 minutes I'd say which isn't too bad considering this seems like a super popular dim sum restaurant on a weekend. Inside is big and super packed with lots of customers. They also have separate rooms with events. The ambiance is great! They have music playing and a super humongous screen advertising wedding events at the restaurant. The women's bathrooms here are also decently clean! Now let's go through the important part... the food! For some reason they gave us the desserts first and we ate that and I was starting to get kind of full waiting for the main entree and other savory dishes LOL * Lobster noodle: This is one of my fave main dishes that they have at dim sum restaurants. However, this tasted like a standard lobster noodle dish but I felt like it was kind of dull compared to my favorite childhood dim sum restaurant in Chinatown, SF. I forgot the name of the restaurant but it was much more flavorful. I still recommend this if you like savory lobster and noodles in the garlic sauce they cook it in. * Steamed shrimp dumpling in ginseng broth: This tasted like a standard shrimp dumpling. No complaints about it. However I did not taste ginseng flavor at all in the broth. We also ordered the regular shrimp dumplings with no broth but I did not try that. I would get any of the shrimp dumplings trays if you like it. I just wished the broth had more of a strong ginseng flavor to enhance the dish more. * Fried red wine marinated oyster: Nothing special about this one at all. I would not get it again and it was underwhelming. They do give you a creamy white sauce to dip it in which made a bit better but it was just straight up fried oyster. * Steamed oyster with black bean sauce: I thought this one also tasted alright. I personally would not get this again. So far not a fan of how they cook their oyster here. * Pork spareribs in black bean sauce: This is another favorite of mines and it tasted great. Flavorful in the black bean sauce and the meat was cooked well. * Chicken feet with black bean sauce: This tasted like it lacked in flavor but I think it's because the sauce wasn't coated well all over the chicken feet. I recommend to keep dipping it with the sauce in the bottom of the plate. This one was average compared to other places. * Steamed beef tripes with ginger and scallion: This one was good and standard. The tripe is cooked well and had a good chew. * Shrimp rice noodle rolls: They were good but I would say the rice noodle itself could've been softer and pillowy. I do like that the shrimp they use are big. * Deep fried shrimp ball with almond slices: I was not a fan of the almond slices around the shrimp ball. I prefer it without the almond slices as I felt like it was too overwhelming and took away from the shrimp ball itself. I'm not sure if you can request them to make it without the almond slice? * Chilled and spicy chicken feet: I love white chicken feet. It was spicy indeed and good meat and cartilage. A good snack dish for me. Now for the desserts! * Mango piggy pudding: Not sure if they ran out of piggies because they came out as rabbits! It was an interesting chewy texture and the mango flavor is super mild!!!! Not too sweet at all which I like and only chose this dish because I thought it was cute. * Baked egg yolk lava bao: THESE ARE AMAZING! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING THIS. The inside is sweet, slightly salty and buttery and creamy. This one was so good I was like WOW! * Pandan Flavor custard tart: The outer dough is flaky and the Pandan flavor is present but mild. This was good. They gave you jasmine tea to wash all this greasy filling food down! The service here is standard just like any other dim sum restaurant. They are quick and busy but complete any requests and are polite. They did forget the chilled and spicy chicken feet but not a problem with some communication! I don't think I would come here again unless I was really craving dim sum and was in the area and specifically for the Baked egg yolk lava Baos! My mother also thought it tasted average but liked how big and nice the place is to host celebrations!

Came here for a wedding and was able to see how their food is and it was ok expected to be more tasty, food plated is fancy but the taste not quite there, we had multiple dishes and it was ok , the place looks amazing parking is ample, service was good, food it's subpar, I will be trying their other locations for dim sum.

As of this writing (12/30/24) do they serve dim sum on carts? If so, is it for lunch or dinner or both? Thx

The food comes out on carts but you order by checking off the items you want from a menu.

How much are the VIP room? How much would it be if less than 15 people were to book the room?

The minimum is $400 for 10 people for lunch time. I just booked last month.

Do you serve dim sum on weekend? My friend came to eat dim sum on Saturday and dim sum was not served.

I just went yesterday (Saturday) and had dim sum. My guess would be it depends on the time your friend went because dim sum is meant for brunch (breakfast/early lunch) and typically dim sum places stop serving it about 1-2pm

Do you take reservation for wedding?

Of course! Very nice place .

Do you serve dim sum at dinner?

No they don't. Just during lunch.

    Do they have wifi?

    Sorry but no.

What time are you open on Sunday?

    10-2:30pm 5-9:30 pm on Sunday's

Do you accept reservations for dim sum on weekends?

Sorry , no reservation for dim sum .

We checked in the front desk and we were given a ticket with a number. As we are waiting, tables for parties of 7 or 10 and 11 were being fulfilled. I checked in twice to ask about our group of 6 and she was very rude and snobby as she informed me that large parties were being seated first. We had been waiting for an hour and they were not calling anyone for party of 6. So ridiculous. After waiting for 1.5 hours, we were finally seated and guess what? The table that we were seated at has 7 seats -- I looked at the other tables that were empty and they also had 7 seats -- meaning that at any point when a table for 6 or 7 was available, we, party of 6, could have been seated but she chose not to seat us and have us wait. Once we were seated, everything moved rather quickly. We were given a menu to order -- we ordered and within 10-15 minutes, everything was brought out to us. No wait time for the food, it was very fast. The food was decent but nothing memorable. Overpriced dim sum, overpriced food. As much I love Chinese food, I don't see myself coming back to this location because the wait times are crazy even if you come early. And second, the two women at the front counter are very rude, provided very poor customer service. Very annoyed and disappointing experience, wouldn't recommend to anyone.

The flavor is comforting and well-balanced without being overly salty, and the texture is smooth and satisfying. I highly recommend pairing it with their dough stick (youtiao). It's crispy on the outside, slightly chewy inside, while still staying light and fluffy. Dipping it into the congee completely changes the experience and honestly feels like a must-order combination. Another standout for me is the steamed spareribs with black bean and taro. The spareribs are tender and flavorful, and the black bean sauce adds a savory depth without overpowering the dish. Service continues to be efficient and well-organized, even when busy. One thing I noticed is that the restaurant is especially popular with elderly customers, which honestly says a lot about the food being comforting, traditional, and consistent. Servers are courteous but if the restaurant is busy, servers don't come around as often as they should. You may have to flag them down. I recommend asking for everything up front if you don't see what you want at your table. For example, certain condiments or dipping sauces for your dim sum or glasses of water, extra napkins, etc. Request that stuff when the wait staff first show up or when you order. The ambiance is your typical Chinese restaurant. Simple and clean enough considering how long this restaurant has been in business. Nice chandeliers. Busy on the weekends for those coming in for dim sum. Restaurant is a decent size and has tables that are good for larger parties as well. Located in a busy plaza which houses many eateries near Lion Supermarket.

The staff is friendly and nice including the owner who knows my go to meal which is beat tendon stew with turnip. I have had other dishes and they are all superb and delicious. Not sure what all the complaints about the food are but I have dined in a lot of Chinese dim sum places including Koi Palace and I love this place more. I have not ordered a dish I did not like and I have tried quite a few of the chef specials already. Ambiance is huge and wide open with nice tables and cloth. I go after work at around 7pm and there is a nice spattering of regulars but I know this place gets crowded in the weekend.. Price is fair but the food and ingredients high quality so I don't care as good food trumps price. I love this place and am happy the owners and staff recognize me. The food is superb and tasty and the ambiance perfect when not busy. I highly recommend coming here for an awesome food and chef to table experience!

I want to come back for lunch so I can get their Yunnan Rose Coffee or Tea Latte. It says on the menu that their coffee beans and tea leaves are from pristine mountains of Yunnan. They do serve coffee for dinner time but I can't take the caffeine at night. The service is above average for a chinese restaurant. The waiter was pretty patience with us as we brought an elderly guest with us at the table so we took a little longer to enjoy our meal. The interior design of the restaurant is pretty interesting where the booth is align an triangular shape with a center piece so the tables can be put together for larger parties very easily. Definitely easier to get a table for parties of 4 or less but it will work out for larger parties as well.

V E R D I C T Came here with two friends who are OBSESSED with spice, and this spot delivered They've got such a wide variety of dishes, including some super unique, hard-to-find ones As a mushroom lover, this was EVERYTHING. They use shiitake mushrooms and don't hold back -- the portion is generous and the flavor is unreal. I could honestly eat this every single day. The vibe is also a whole moment. Cozy, warm, and gives you that greenery feel without actual plants -- just super inviting and perfect for a chill meal with friends. If you're into spicy food or want to try something different, this is your spot.
