They were not busy and we were advised to order soon, as their kitchen would close shortly. Items ordered: Soy sauce chow mein- Large portion and taste was fine and as expected. Beef stew noodle soup- Large portion and plenty of beef and noodles with some choy. Taste was okay. Salt and pepper pork chops- I opted for no jalapeños. The fried garlic was good but this was VERY fatty. Majority of the pork chops were gristle and inedible. Choy in broth- Large order and taste was fine. Fish congee- Portion size was okay and decent amount of fish. Staff were very friendly, brought us the bill but explained that we had plenty of time to finish our meal (as they were trying to balance the register prior to closing), and even brought us desserts. Ambiance- 2/5 stars This location is in need of an update. They do have a private room and seating is not too crowded, which is a plus. This restaurant used to be my go-tơ place for Dimsum and Cantonese food but the quality of food and services have gone down so much that I am not sure if I'd recommend it to diners. We're in for Dimsum and ordered through a marked down menu. They missed a couple of items and upon inquiries we were told the items were sold out. Asked for ice waters but none were given until asked again. Nơ chilly oils and vinegars ơn the table. We asked for them, and none were given. In the past 3 months, I've been here 3 times for dim sum on the weekends. Our group size varied from 4 people to 9. I'm can honestly say I'm shocked at the negative reviews. Our food is always picture perfect and the staff is quick and attentive. We had the pleasure of being greeted by Frank, our host, every visit. Frank is so friendly and kind! He waves at his guests as they leave and he even smiles - if you frequent Chinese restaurants, you know what a rarity this is. My aunt and uncle came for a visit from Hong Kong, and even they were impressed with the service and the food. I love the black bean chicken feet, roast pork and duck, spare ribs and wu gok. My grandson wanted soup dumplings and this restaurant is close to the house, so we decided to go here. I've never been, and it was on a Saturday afternoon. Lessons learned from this visit. Maybe we should walk next time. Parking is hard to find, its very busy, or don't go on the weekend. Luckily the wait for a table was only a few minutes. We ordered our usuals off of a menu, they don't come around on carts. Has the Har gow (shrimp dumpling), Bbq pork rice noodles, Black Truffle shrimp dumplings, Xiao Long Bao (Steamed Shanghai Dumplings), and House special Pan Fried (Hongkong style) combination noodles. Noticed that they have really good wrapper to filling ratio with their dumplings. Thinner wrapper with generous protein filling for both their meat and seafood dumplings. Har gow was filled with big chunk of shrimp. Had bamboo shoots flavor too but not overwhelming. Truffle shrimp dumplings were good with just the perfect amount of truffle. I like that they topped the dumplings with the truffle instead of mixing it with the filling because I could taste the shrimp and the truffle separately. This was the highlight of the meal. The BBQ pork rice noodles were also good with lots of roasted pork and maybe chives which really complemented the sweet pork. The noodles were a bit overcooked that they were falling apart as I pick them up with chopsticks. The XLB were small but didn't skimp on the filling. Wrapper was very thin so the dumplings were mostly meat. I could taste the ginger flavor. Not a lot of soup inside. But still good. The Hongkong style noodle dish was also good. Generous serving. Had chicken, bbq pork, shrimp, scallops, squid, bok choy all on top of crispy egg noodles with soy based gravy. Yummy. The egg custard cake (Thousand Layer Cake) was unique. It was steamed cake with paste of salted egg mixed it. It also had some candied pieces of coconut. Very moist. It was good but too sweet for my taste. They have less variety of dimsum and more pricey than other places I've been but they definitely pay attention to the taste and quality. Each dimsum item had its unique flavor that's noticeable. They don't have dim sum on carts, but once you submit your order, the food comes out pretty quickly and is hot and fresh! We ordered a variety of dim sum dishes and it was exactly what we were craving - traditional, classic dim sum. We chose our tea and was given a big pot, which only needed to be refilled once towards the end (we drink a lot of tea; and it was only the 2 of us). Food was good and pieces were decently sized (shu mai and har gow were on the larger size, which we loved!). Service is what you'd expect it to be -- minimal interaction but efficient. The restaurant itself is bigger than I expected, clean and ample seating for any size party. We got there around 1pm and it was still pretty busy. Something to note: an automatic service charge is added to your bill, so no need to tip extra. My partner overlooked this and added a tip on top of the final bill. Mayflower used to be the Dim Sum standard, but my how far they have fallen. They have a lot of seating, but we're not cleaning the tables to seat people. There was a line of people but more dirty tables than people in line, they could have seated people quickly had they better managed the tables. The food was served warm, not hot. Once we were seated, we got a pot of tea. We asked for water and was served some after the food was delivered (so about 20 mins after we asked). Also they add a 18% gratuity (unannounced) for any party (1-10), we had two people in our party and still had the gratuity applied with no way to adjust it. I have no issue paying for good service (18+%), but the service was sub-par so the automatic gratuity was ridiculous. I'd say to skip this place if you're looking for dim sum. read more

Came here for dinner and got Chinese dishes here! Great service. Bit pricey but solid food. Started with some salted peanuts. My favorite part of Chinese dinners. We got the soup of the day which was the soup with chicken feet in it. Forgot the canto name. Got some boiled giant surf clams which were huge and came with a sweet soy sauce and green onion oil poured on top giving it an aromatic taste. Clam tasted fresh and had different parts. The seafood glass noodle clay pot was tasty and had a slight kick to it. The pea sprout with tofu was cooked perfectly. Vegetables were soft and still had that crunch to it. Nice sauce and delicious soft tofu with crispy edges. Ended with dessert which was the grass jelly and peanut soup. Both not too sweet. The grass jelly was refreshing. Ask for their XO chili sauce! The various dumplings were pretty good a they were very big with good ratio of meat to wrapper. Unfortunately the only notable thing for me here was the dumplings. The chicken feet were pretty bland, and the steamed pork ribs could have used a bit more bean sauce. The pan fried pork bun was meh with not the best ratio of filling. Short Story: A decent Chinese/dim sum restaurant in Milpitas Long Story: I've been coming here here for several years now and most of the time they do not disappoint. The place is a decent size but it does get quite busy on the weekends so be sure to get there early! I've tried all of their dim sum and lots of their entrees including roast duck, dried scallop and egg white fried rice, roasted pork, etc. The prices are a bit higher than what I expected and the portions (especially roasted duck) is a bit smaller. So I would be careful about that. However the dim sum is quite awesome! They have both a main dining area and a more private area too for smaller parties. Verdict: I'll go back! read more

There are a lot of pictures so it makes it easy to find what you want. We ordered 20 plates of food and 7 of the items came out together. I was suspicious that the items were not made fresh. The flavors were adequate but just I suspected, the food was warm and not hot. The items also tasted like they have been steaming for a while. The waitstaff was prompt to take away your dirty plates but they were not friendly. If you need to get dim sum really bad and don't want the good stuff, then this is the place for you. PS. It serves all the classic dim sum dishes you expect, from favorites like shu mai and har gao to fun desserts. They have since moved away from the traditional pushcart service (you now mark your choices on a piece of paper), which I lament because it is, in my opinion, an essential part of the dim sum experience. I hadn't been here since I was a kid doing yum cha with my family and it's funny to see all my friend's comments about how bad their experiences once were. However, I have to say that for my friend's wedding recently, they were the absolute best in providing an amazing banquet experience. The venue was large to fit nearly 300 guests with a small area for photos and an entire dance floor. Everyone was gathering around for photos with the couple and the staff were very accommodating for all of our needs. As a vegan, I usually get a major short end of the stick when it comes to Chinese restaurants and banquet meals, but I was shocked to have 6 different dishes served to me which was more than I expected. Everything was pretty good too - definitely a lot more inventive than at other Chinese banquets I've attended in recent years. Love the use of tofu and mushrooms to really amp up my offerings. Staff were also extremely friendly and would shoot the s--- with us especially when it came to requests for more water or making space in order for the wine glasses to start getting poured. They took real good care of us, serving my friends individually depending on their dish in the massive ten-course seafood meal. Had dinner there tonight. So a few questions for folks who are contemplating about coming here. 1) Would you like to have mediocre food? 2) Would you like to have bad service? What I mean by that is the person taking our order was not friendly at all and was just trying to get us to order as soon as possible. Then 3 minutes later that person brings the rice out. 3) Would you like to be asked to leave because they have a line outside? We were just wrapping up and was about to leave but the staff was impatient and came to us to ask that we leave as they have a long line. Please do note, we were going to leave, but was just drinking one last sip of tea. So yeah, if you answered yes to any of these questions, defintely go eat at this place. However, if you answered no, go to Ocean Pearl instead, as it is totally opposite of Mayflower. Ocean Pearls is in the same plaza. So so much better there. read more

Hostess Ruined a Good Meal! A note for the business owner of Mayflower: I've dined here many times over the years, and the male waiters have always been nice and polite. Unfortunately, my last visit was ruined by the short-haired woman from Shanghai at the front desk. She was incredibly rude. I am certain she heard my question, but she chose to ignore me completely. Her behavior was unacceptable and truly hurt my feelings. We still paid our $150 bill, but left feeling very unhappy. They really need to change their policy on withholding our order until two of our guests arrived. They've seated us at a large table only to drink tea. My brother and his wife were driving from Contra Costa County to join us for my parents' wedding anniversary and what they should've done was to honor my hangry dad and serve the food instead of waiting. We arrived early to check in with our reservations and we still had to wait 30-40 more minutes for the food to arrive on the table? Make it make sense. Kind of ridiculous, if you ask me! We arrived shortly after they had opened so we didn't have to wait and were seated right away. They don't do the carts anymore. When you are seated they give you a menu to order from. We were served water and tea. We ordered A LOT of food: Har Gar, Sui Mai, Chicken Feet, Steamed Sticky Rice, Steam Beef Tripe, Shrimp Rice Rolls, Chinese Broccoli in Oyster Sauce, Beef Chow Fun and Fried Shrimp Balls. At first I thought it was just my taste buds but my family agreed that the food was not good. The dishes were either bland or salty. No savory or in between which was a bummer for me. We couldn't finish and ended up taking a lot home. My mom ended up adding some extra seasoning which made it taste better. Service was not great but also not bad. I don't think we'd be back anytime soon. I'm going to look into other options when I'm craving dim sum. read more

I feel that the quality has dipped a little since the early years but the food is still pretty good. I've attended a handful of wedding banquets held at Mayflower as they can partition off rooms and sections. For dim sum, they serve all the standard items like egg tarts, shrimp har gow, pork sui mai, chicken feet, bbq pork buns, etc. The items come out fresh and directly from the kitchen rather than the old school dim sum push carts. I've been here for dinner several times the last year. Their prices are on the higher side compared to some of the neighboring restaurants. Quality wise, it's a solid 3 stars. The restaurant does feel a bit aged and the tables are pretty close to each other. Service is good, they refilled our tea several times without us asking. Parking can be a bit tough at lunch on the weekends due to the all the other restaurants and shops at this plaza. All in all, it's still a decent place for dim sum or for dinner. read more
